Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back, Chris.
It's the end of February, we'reheading into March.
I'm not really sure where thetime went, but it is flying by
buddy.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Yeah, it's going by real quick.
I mean, like you said, it'salready March and I don't even
know where January and Februarywent.
And March is the kickoff ofmaybe about half the tours
around the country and then fullsailing after that.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Yeah, so over the last few weeks obviously we've
had more and more tours start.
I mean, you've had a coupleevents and we'll talk about them
near the end.
So everybody really shouldwhether you stick around to the
end or not, normally you reallyshould today because we need to
get into what's going on in ElPaso and hopefully straighten

(00:50):
some things out.
Let's get it started.
Let's get started.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
Ladies and gentlemen.
Ladies and gentlemen, golf WeekAmateur Tour proudly presents
Golf Week Amateur Tour, thepodcast Talking about all things
Golf Week Amateur Tour, including interviews with tour
directors, players and courseprofessionals.
Now here are your hosts, timNewman and El Paso Las Cruces
Tour Director, chris Rocha.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Again, chris, welcome back.
And really before we get intothis week's episode, I need to
revisit last episode becausesome of the feedback we got
really warmed my heart thesegments that we did with John,
some of the feedback we got withthat and really with feedback

(01:57):
we got from Bear Jarrett Stancil.
It was really good to hear andread some of the comments that
were obviously posted on socialmedia, but some of the things
that were sent by email as well.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Yeah, they were just coming in like crazy.
You know, it's great to hearthe inspirational words he had
and there was really no Hatredor bad mindsets or anything that
came out of his mouth.
He was just.
I mean, he caught me off guardwith his.
You know he's not drinking.
Well, I hope he's not drinking.
He's what?

Speaker 1 (02:32):
13, but uh no, he's doing all good.
He's a junior in high school, Imean okay, but still I mean I'm
saying, like a junior highschool should be, should be
thrown in the back.
That's not what I did when Iwas junior high school.
Right, right, right right.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
But you know I mean even member my members that
listen, they, they had greatwords to say.
So you know it was a greatinterview.
You know I'm glad we were ableto have him at the beginning of
the year and if he gets, youknow, anytime he gets better, I
might have to come out and havea round with him because it
sounds like it'd be a fun round.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Yeah, it really would be.
And again, it just goes to showyou we are truly a tour for
everybody.
There's a spot here foreverybody.
Open welcoming Bring cash Mailemail.
Mail, email, bring cash.
We'll take cash Hopefully.
Well, you guys will take cash.

(03:34):
I mean I just donate when Iplay, so anyway.
Well, let's get into the wholeidea of what we've got going on
this weekend.
We've got this episode.
We're going to talk to our lastand newest tour director.
We've got all the winners fromthe first senior regional and,

(03:56):
by the way, that was fun.
The weather generally the lastcouple of years at Sea Pines for
the Senior Icebreaker has beenreally, really cold.
Last year was cold, wet, rainy, windy, had a lot of those
things.
But this year it was reallynice.
So, looking forward to talkingto those winners.

(04:19):
And again, we've got to stickaround for the end because we
had to talk about what's goingon there's nothing going on, it
was just a bad weekend.
I know that's what the problemis, so why don't you go ahead
and introduce our next guest, tim, as we finish our series on

(04:42):
our new directors.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
We mentioned this way back when how we had so many
new directors join our crazyfamily, as it is for Golf
Weekend and senior directors.
We're getting close to the end,you know, and it's great to
have our next guest join theshow to let us know what he's

(05:05):
all about.
And you know, I know he'sexcited to start his tour and
we're glad to have this tourback on our roster.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Yeah, I'm really glad to have it back on the roster
and, like you said, the crazyfamily that is the Golf Week
Amateur Tour.
We'll just leave it at that.
Especially, you know, now thatwe're really getting into the
season again, we have a littlebit of lull, we have a good time
, but now the craziness isreally starting to pick up.

(05:32):
It's the end of February, whenMarch hits, a ton of tours
really start playing and whenApril hits, everybody's rolling.
But let's just go ahead andbring him in.
There we go, yeah, but I'vebeen doing this.
I keep hitting the wrong buttonover and over and over again.

(05:53):
Julio, number one, welcome tothe tour, so glad to have you,
and welcome to the podcast.
It's been an adventure tryingto get you on, but you're here
now.
So welcome, welcome, welcome,thank you.

(06:13):
Thank you so much.
So you're Pacific Northwest,you know.
Tell us a little bit aboutyourself and and you know why
you'd want to even join this, this craziness that is the Golf
Week Amateur.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Tour.
Well, had you asked me thatquestion a month and a half ago,
I wasung ho as heck right andthen, and then it really set in.
I think both jens told me it'sgonna get here quicker than you
think, boy.
They were.
They right, because it's.
It's a lot, um, a little aboutmyself.
I'm born and raised pacificnorthwest salem, oregon, um.
Spent four years in themilitary stationed down in

(06:44):
California, did a little stintover Desert Storm, but other
than that I've been here mywhole life, I think, playing in
so many different tournamentsall over, you know, with
different groups and whatever.
I think a buddy of mine thatalso played in the Golf week

(07:05):
amateur tour and has joined usnow we both are selling point to
the guys we're trying to get inis is, is, that was nationals
Um.
The two years that I went, itwas absolutely the best two
years or the best two eventsI've been in.
I mean, the golf was great, theturn or the, the, the courses

(07:25):
were great and everything, butit was the people.
That's what really blew us awayis all the people we met from
all over the country and justall the fun we had with
everybody.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Yeah and Chris, that's the theme of just about
everybody we talk to.
Yeah, we play great courses, but it's really the people and
the connections and theinteractions that we have and
that we make.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Yeah, we hear it all the time.
But now for somebody on the farwest coast to say that that's
one of their favorites to travelacross the country to play the
nationals.
I don't want to hear no excusesfrom anybody now, from from us
west coast people and and it isa trip it is.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
It is a chore to get there, but I tell everybody,
just it's going to take you awhile to get there, it's a full
day of travel, but when you getthere you're going to have the
best, the best time so what isthat travel like?

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Walk us through through you know the time, the
time that you leave your houseto the time that you get here in
Hilton Head.
What's that look like?

Speaker 3 (08:32):
Well, it's, it's always.
There's always going to be aconnecting flight somewhere.
There's no direct flights fromPortland to Hilton Head, even
you know, I think there's aCharlotte connection, but you
know, usually it's there's aconnecting flight somewhere.
And, and I think the the leastamount of time I spent in
Atlanta or Boston was probablyabout two, two and a half hours,

(08:55):
but it's usually a little bitof a wait, you know.
You know he, just after thefirst year, where you just kind
of I wouldn't say you're used toit, but you know you expect it
back to it, I think it was justknowing that we're going to be
in in a really cool place toplay golf in, just dealing with

(09:16):
with the weights and all thatstuff.
It's, you know.
But you know, waiting in anairport is not great, you know
you're, an airport is not great, you know you're just sitting
there doing nothing, thank you,you know, play on your phone or
play on your computer orwhatever and whatever.
But it it once you, once youtouch down in in South Carolina

(09:37):
and and you get there and you goand eat at these great places
and yeah, it's just yeah, andthe weather's nice, and the
weather's nice and the weather'sway nicer.
Yeah, see, I'm not Usually inOctober, I'm sorry.
Usually in October we'restarting to get some rain up
here, you know, and it'sstarting to get nasty in it.
But you know, I don't think Idon't think there was a bad day

(09:59):
when we were there those twoyears.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Yeah, I was no, I was going.
Were there those two years?
Yeah, um, I was no.
I was gonna say I'm notcomfortable when I'm there until
I know my golf bag is in myhands.
That's when I feel comfortableand happy that I made the trip,
because that, like you said, that two, three hour layaway or
layover is the longest, notknowing if your bags make it on
your plane or not.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Well, I just wake up here, so travel for me is is
really pretty easy Must be nice.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
It must be nice yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Yeah, so.
So.
So tell us about.
You know what you've got on theschedule this year.
I, I see you've got.
I mean so you know today's the24th.
You've got a an event coming upin just a couple days.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
We actually pushed that out a little bit.
I think I was a littleoptimistic.
As far as you know, doing akickoff Got a lot of people say
they want to play, but nobody'sreally.
You know, I've had a hard timegetting people to sign up, but
it's picking up.
But I wanted to give everybodyan extra couple weeks.

(11:06):
We have an event at my homecourse, a one-man scramble here
in two weeks, so I think whatI'm going to do is go push it
and I already went ahead andpushed it out until the end of
the month, but hopefully we geta big, you know, floodgate, the
floodgates open, because up hereit's it's been raining a lot,

(11:28):
we've had we just had a big icestorm, um, and historically the
pacific northwest is not, wedon't.
We have a lot of fair weather, golfers and and, and so once we
get the word out, and and I'vegot, I just received my trophies
the other day and they'relooking pretty, pretty sweet.
So I'm going to be takingpictures of those and get those

(11:50):
on Facebook and whatnot, andtrying to really push the next
couple of weeks to get to getsome people signed up.
But yeah, once, once we startApril, like you were saying
earlier, april, once April hits,we're going to be going start
april, like you were sayingearlier, april.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
Once april hits, we're going to be going.
You know you talk about fairweather, golfers and a lot of
rain.
Um hilton had a few weeks agowe got snow.
We got, you know, about fourinches of snow and today in
parts of north carolina itsnowed.
Wow, yeah, and so you knowwe're.
If it's cold outside, I don'tgo.
I don't even go outside.

(12:28):
And you give me shit, yeah, butI just own it.
If you can go to the spring, you've got to come.
Harder than that.
When my granddaughter calls metiny pops and I say okay, you've
got to come stronger than oh,you're not going to go outside
because it's cold.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
I'm stronger than, oh , you're not going to go outside
because it's cold, so but wehave some good.

(13:10):
It was this me going down.
This little adventure waspretty late in, you know, and
the decision was made prettyquick.
So, um, I think I got a prettygood little you know roster of
courses just for our first year.
Um, I w I really went for valueas far, and then value for the
courses we're playing.
I mean, we, san Diem golf courseis very underrated, I think,
and it's you know.
Nem golf course is veryunderrated, I think, and it's
you know it's a beautiful coursethere, right in the middle of
the Valley.
Um, we've got Langdon farms, which is one of our premier

(13:33):
courses up here.
Um, very beautiful, verywell-maintained.
Um, so, like, like I said, butI, I do plan.
I mean I'm I'm in talks withBand and Dunes.
It's getting a little tough toget in there for big groups, but
they're now doing a I keepwanting to say lottery, or yeah,

(13:55):
I guess it is a lottery system.
You get in there and you putyour name down and if you're
drawn, you get to schedule atournament.
Wow, yeah, it's.
I mean, I don't know if youguys have ever played Bandit
Dunes, but it is.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
It's a bucket list.
It's on my bucket list, forsure.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
There was years that I didn't.
I was invited, I never went, never went, and finally I went
and I'm like what about?
I lived four hours away, youknow it's.
It's a beautiful track and Ithink they're adding a couple
more courses, so yeah, I'venever heard anybody complain
that.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
Oh you know, like around here people will complain
oh I gotta go to myrtle beachand play golf, like I have to go
to myrtle beach.
But I've never heard anybodycomplain that they've got to go
to band of dudes to play golf.
I mean it's.
And I've never heard anybodycomplain that they've got to go
to Bandon Dunes to play golf.
I mean it's.
And I've never heard, when theycome back, say, oh it was, it
was awful.

Speaker 3 (14:49):
So I mean it's, it's obviously that's the place
people want to play.
Yeah, it's beautiful.
I mean, if you get on thewebsite and you even listen to
the, there's a little video oror audio that they have of of um
, I think it's the, thearchitect of the golf course
talking about the golf course.
Just listening to that littleaudio, oh, you just want to jump

(15:14):
in the car and go and play.
It's just the way he describesthe holes is just.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
And then, having played it, it's, it's yeah, I
think when me and my group ofguys when we decided to go,
we're going to spend a week, oh,yeah, two rounds a day and just
hit all the courses.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Yeah, they have a little.
I wouldn't call it yeah, Iguess it is a par three little
course Shorties, I think it'swhat it's called.
Oh man, that is so much fun.
Yeah, it's a lot of fun.
The punch bowl is amazing.
There they have a littleputting green.
That's huge, and you see a lotof people.
I know what you're talkingabout.

(15:51):
I can't wait.
Yeah, you see a lot of groupsout there.
They have, I mean, you'll seeguys out there with hundreds of
dollars on putts, just causethey're.
You know, that's usually theend of the day or the that, you
know.
So they've had a few beverages.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, so there's a lot of shenanigans
going around at the Punchbowl.
I hope you get that.
I know I really want to get it.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Yeah, also, you know Pacific Northwest.
I'm looking at Chambers Bay.
That one's a little.
I wouldn't say it's tough toget in there, but it's.
I need to do my research as faras you know how to navigate
Because it's a little trek for alot of the guys that are

(16:33):
already in.
But there's a few coursesaround there that I want to.
At least the home course isreally close to that's another
great course up there.
But yeah, that's got a lot ofbig plans.
Hopefully we can.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
We can make it happen well, just just look at your
schedule now.
I mean very reasonably pricedcompared to.
You know a lot of tourism andwhat we're dealing with across
the country, um, you know.
But but what would you say isis if the people that are
listening, they could only go toone tournament out Pacific
Northwest.

(17:08):
Which one?

Speaker 3 (17:10):
should they go to God ?
It's.
Heron Lakes is great.
It's a great little track, butat Langdon Farms I keep going
back to Langdon Farms.
It's a great, great golf courseand their restaurant's amazing.
They've got at the time I'mgoing to be playing it's going

(17:37):
to be nice weather, so they'vegot capacity to seat hundreds of
people right so we can stretchour legs and have fun after the
round and during, you know, during the round.
But Langdon Farms is probablyone of my favorite courses that
is on my schedule right now.
That's awesome, and weather inAugust is what up there it's

(17:58):
you'll be low 90s maybe Reallydepends.
Sometimes we get pretty hot,but I'd say anywhere from 85 to
95 right in there.
That's not.
Um, oh no, that's not hot andit's, it's, it's not.
It's not south carolina hoteither.
I mean you can be out there andand be, it's going to be hot,
but you're not the south.

(18:20):
I've been in the south in thesummer and that was you walk
outside and you need to.
You know you're just yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
But the one good thing about here in the summer,
though, we always we get theocean breeze, you know, and and
so yeah, it's hot.
And if you, and if you're offthe off the ocean a little bit
or a little bit, or you're intown a little bit, yeah it's hot
.
I try and get out to where theocean breeze can blow on me a
little bit and I'm fine.
But in terms of Chris playinggolf, he only plays golf if it's

(18:55):
80 degrees, low humidity, nowind.
You say that.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
But when we look back at it, the two regionals that I
got second place was nothinglike that.
It was humid and hot, sweatingright out of the airport.
And then the other one we gotdrenched on downpour.
Remember those poor D-flightersand C-flighters coming in all
soggy?

Speaker 1 (19:21):
I was inside.
Yeah both times.
So, julio, tell us about yourgame.
I mean, it looks like you're apretty good golfer in the
A-flight.
Oh, I'm a hack.
No, so we're not going to talkabout your two most recent
scores, but you know.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
Oh, that was at Paiute and that was probably the
windiest.
I mean, I played it at BandonDunes a few times when it's
windy and it's rainy, but thiswas if you were on the top side
of a hill or the green orwhatever.
It was hard to keep the ball onthe green and it's just comedy

(20:05):
of errors.
On the second day it just gotbad.
But you know, I had fun, Itried to have fun, I enjoyed the
round as much as I could, butyeah, it was pretty windy.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
But the courses out there.
I mean, you know I was outthere this year, obviously, but
last year the courses out therewere phenomenal.
You know I was out there thisyear, obviously, but last year
the course out there wasphenomenal.
Oh yeah, it was beautiful If wecould just get out there where
the weather would be, you know, have the wind calm down a little
bit and temperatures are just alittle bit warmer than they
were last year.
I think that would be perfect.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
Yep, and I think they did say they're going to push
it out a week or maybe move itup a week.
I think is what I heard, whichmight help.
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (20:53):
Yeah, I don't know.
I think that time of year inVegas it's hit or miss.
Right, it just is what it is.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
Because we actually played Wolf Creek that Friday.
We had no wind and it wasprobably 64, 65 degrees.
Beautiful, beautiful man.
I had visions of grandeur forPaiute man.
I was going to go low.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
How did you do in the casinos?

Speaker 3 (21:23):
Oh God, we're not going to talk about that either,
especially if the wife's myfault.
How'd you do in the casinos?
Oh God, we're not going to talkabout that either.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
Yeah, especially, especially, especially if the
wife I'm looking over myshoulder, see if my wife can
hear me.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
So, yeah, I understand that.
I understand that I broke even.
Good, good call, good call.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (21:41):
Oh, that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
Thank you so much for for spending some time with us.

Speaker 3 (21:46):
Give us some closing thoughts for for those listening
and um, and why they shouldcome out and see you guys out in
pacific northwest yeah, I mean,we really want to build this
tour to where, like, people notonly are going to have good golf
courses and and reasonablypriced golf courses, but the
people in this, in this tour, are going to be nice, they're

(22:08):
going to be welcoming, they'regoing to be you know it's going
to be.
I'm going to say it's going tobe like family, you know I want
it to be where we can come andenjoy each other's company
because you know you're outthere on the golf course and and
, at the same time, competitivetoo.
I want it to be a competitive, but I want you to have fun doing
it, you know.
And so the future I'm hopingfor some pumpkin ridges and you

(22:32):
know that's a great, anothergreat course.
But look for us in the nextcouple of years and we hope to
get some people to fly out to us.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
I hope so, and obviously I think you're going
to get some pretty good, goodcrowds, good crowds this year
too.
But we do need to get somepeople to.
You know, we encourage peopleto travel all the time.
Now, you know, get out to seeyou.
Let's make a trip of it, right,let's?

(23:02):
Let's get five or six guys andlet's just go out and play.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Yep, and a lot of my courses or a lot of my
tournaments are one-dayers.
Right, I have one at the endthat's a two-day, but you know I
get heads up, you guys arecoming out or something.
You got a group of three orfour or five.
We'll set up some courses to.
You know.
Go have some fun.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
Yeah, I we'll set up some courses to you know, go
have some fun.
Yeah, I mean you got ChambersBay out there that I played
Castle Creek, I believe it'scalled.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
Yeah, it's a great course.
I played that one.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
That was fun.
That was a fun course to play.
So, yeah, like you said, andthen you got, you know, seattle
you can go to and just hang out.
It's a whole big trip.
I I enjoyed that trip.
That's probably my favoritetrips that I've done.
Um, so I'm glad you guys areback and uh, I mean you get that

(23:54):
band in june.
You give me a call, I guessI'll get a whole group of guys
out there to go play oh yeah, that's, that's man I'm so.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
yeah, hopefully we can get in there.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
That'd be awesome.
All right, my friend, you takecare of yourself again.
Thanks so much for spendingsome time with us and we'll talk
to you soon.
Thank you, have a good time.
Let's take a break from theshow to hear about Strixon's ZX
Mark II drivers.

Speaker 5 (24:20):
ZX Mark II drivers are for major players, major
winners, major power.
All new ZX Mark II drivers onlyfrom Shrixod.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
Man, it was great to get to know Julio.
You know I've been out there, went and played Chambers or Bay,
like I said, and it was a greattime.
So I mean, even the courses outthere were amazing and I'm
pretty sure he's got a widerange and I'm telling you, if he
gets that band in invitationand we can make it a big event,

(24:55):
I will be down there.
Yeah, I will shuffle aroundsome tournaments to get down
there.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
The big issue there, as everybody knows, is getting
there, because it's not easy toget to.
But if we have a tournamentthere, I'm sure we will find a
way to get there.
Big-ass box and all.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
We will be there.
Yeah, I'll get you a nice bigvan if we need to.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Okay with capital shares.
We'll figure it out All right, but let's see how it goes.
But again he seemed like a funguy, Looking forward to meeting
him.
I'm sure he's going to do wellout there.
Obviously the first year istough, but he does have a lot of

(25:49):
guys from the tour previously.
I think last year was the firstyear that there wasn't a tour
up there, so I'm sure guys areitching to get back into it.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
Yeah, especially when they find out or hear that the
tour is back, they'll definitelyjump on, because I know the
previous director was great andI don't see why they wouldn't be
excited to come back and play.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
Yeah, exactly, and plus again, the whole idea of
coming out to Hilton Head inOctober sounds like a pretty
good place to be, as opposed tothe Pacific Northwest in October
.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
Agreed, agreed.
Even though I went in June andit was nice so.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
Oh yeah, it's nice then, but I mean Right, that's
not where National Championshipis, though.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Right, right, right.
I'm just saying.
I was in the Pacific Northwestin June.
It was great Congratulations.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
Pacific.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Northwest in June.
It was great.

Speaker 4 (26:53):
Congratulations.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
Oh God.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
We're not even drinking man.
It's too early for that Is itFor me, for me Come on.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
Come on, anyways, let's move on.
All right, come on, anyways, let's move on, alright, alright,
so let's go ahead andtransition into talking to the
winners from the senioricebreaker this year.
Let's do it.
Welcome to the plantation clubin Sea Pines, home of famed golf
courses Atlantic Dunes andHeron Point.

(27:30):
This is the first seniorregional of the 2025 season.
The senior icebreaker We've gotthe first champion of the year
in the champ flight from theCentral Carolina Tour, william
Carter.
William, congratulations on thewin.
Thank you, I had a good timeout there.
So, were you here last year?
I was not.
Well, you're smart, because theweather we had this weekend

(27:52):
it's actually a Friday-Saturdaywas vastly different.
It was cold and rainy and thewind was blowing.
I missed it last year.
You really did.
So this is the weather we'relooking for all the time.
Things are great.
It's something new.
Southern sun agrees.
Every day, sun's been out.
No real wind to speak of.
No, back down today a littlebit.

(28:12):
I was inside.
Yeah, I did.
Yeah, just a little bit.
So yesterday, round one wasLantunes, which I love.
At Lantunes, it's a phenomenalcourse.
It's very challenging, you know, and you shot even par 72, and
that, in and of itself was anaccomplishment, so tell us about
that.
It.
You shot even par 72, and thatin and of itself was an
accomplishment, so tell us aboutthat.
It was a good day.
Slow start After six holes, Ithink I was three over par.

(28:34):
Oh, wow, okay.
And then I leveled out andfinished 300 the rest of the day
.
So you shoot even par.
That was a good comeback aftera slower start.
What do you think of the lastthree holes?
Very challenging.
Yeah, the last hole was specialin here.
It was a really, you know, tough driving hole than a longer
second shot.
Yeah, so you lot of things withLane 2, you talk about the last

(28:57):
three holes, but my favoritehole is hole 15, that par 3.
You know you're hitting rightinto the ocean.
Yeah, it's a beautiful, yes, asignature hole.
It's a great place to, you know, play and see that hole every
time you come here.
So I've been up and down forthree, but the good three is
best.
That's perfect.
What about hole nine?
I love that hole too.
I love watching other peopleplay there.
Yes, yes, you know, usually ifwe were playing each other for

(29:19):
fun, we'd go for the green andtwo.
I didn't yesterday, so just andthen three and made a par.
That's smart, yeah, smart.
So You're one back going intoday.
Jay Barnes was one under, soagain, that's really the route.
He had a great day.
Yes, I'm there too, yeah, and sowe're playing Heron Point today
.
Heron Point's a little bitdifferent course.
It's still very challenging.
I don't like that one.
Yeah, and you were four undergoing into 18.

(29:42):
I was.
You finished 200, but that'sokay.
Yeah, I had one, got there on18 and hit it in the water by a
few yards, made a good up anddown for a six, and some sixes
are pretty good sixes.
That's all she had.
But four birdies, yeah, yeah,or the rest bars in the one
double, they were, yeah, goodday, boogie free until 18.
So that's always a good goal isto be boogie free.

(30:02):
Doesn't happen all I do.
But again, especially withcompetition, especially with the
competition you're playing with, jay Barnes is right at you, a
former national champion, thatlast group in the champ plate.
You know you're playing withgood ball.
You're in the home all the time.
So talk about the course andthe round today.
Obviously it was very good.

(30:29):
But what was your mindset goingthrough each hole?
Well, based on yesterday'sround.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
I was trying to hit my irons better, which I believe
for the first 12 or 13 holes.

Speaker 1 (30:34):
I hit every green in regulation, so that was a great
start, but the other guys weredoing it too, so we were all
fighting for birdie and tryingto get our speeds right.
Some dropped and it took alittle while to figure
everything out.
With the fall this morning, thegreens were a little bit wet at
times, so it's slower thanyesterday.
With the fall this morning, thegreens were a little bit wet at
times, so it's slower thanyesterday.
Yes, so we figured it out andeverybody had their share of

(30:55):
birdies and I had someback-to-back birdies on the back
nine and that's good, that's agood opportunity out here.
Yeah, we were tied before thathappened, so very good
competition out there for sure.
Yeah, so when you talk aboutyou want to hit your irons
better, what does that mean?
Especially when you're talkingto somebody like me, who's I
just want to hit my irons Bettercontact, just in general, under
pressure for me again, otherplayers too, we probably hit it

(31:17):
a little thin, a little paddedtiles, but for me it's thin.
So trying to make good contact, better divots and make the ball
go the right distance, you knowthat's the key to control.
Yeah, did I say that?
Key control?
Yeah, that's always key.
That was good.
The distance was better.
What's next for you?
Let's see Playing Dennis'tournament.

(31:37):
The Verput four ball.
The Verput four ball, that's alot of fun.
Yeah, I think that's two weeksaway, yep, but I won that last
year.
Okay, so we're going to godefend that title and Big Dennis
and his partner in a goodbattle.
Well, good luck.
And, by the way, if anybody'swatching, you haven't played the
four ball man.
That's something you should try.
This course is at BarefootResort in North Bartle Beach.
Great place, bo way to go.

(32:00):
Thanks so much for your time.
Congratulations.
See you soon.
Okay, thank you, take a sip.
The 8th Lake champion.
I know your face from theToronto Tour, toronto Tour
Director, scott Isles.
Scott, congratulations on thewin.
We've been waiting for this fora few years haven't we.
I've been waiting for two years,so I've won this two times in a
year.
Last year with the weatherthough it was not fun, yeah, but

(32:24):
perfect weather.
You know we talked a little bitabout it, but the perfect
weather 73 is really no way togo.
Think of Yesterday at Lane Dew.
You shot 79.
You were right in the mix.
I think you were in secondplace.
No, tied for first place.
Oh, so it was 270.

(32:46):
So you said you really want tobe.
You talked about that roundyesterday.
So actually I started with adecent and a couple of doubles.
I'm trying to check.
I came back, I mean 330s on aback nine and on the double and
the pitch is on that short trialfour.
I shot 38 out of the back.

(33:09):
It is close, which I was reallytrying to as if you
know I shot 38 out of the back.
It is both you know.
It felt as if a new swing that.
I started I was like I'm niceto me.
It just took a little bit oftime and I sit back and I kind
of came together at the backside yesterday and it clicked
and it entered you ship to 79,which was nice.

(33:31):
It kind of came back to thefield Right, Some amount of
flying there.
Thank you, How'd you do 16, 17,18?
Those were the three holes thatI asked you.
Yeah, so phrase box team.
I hit it as a bunker andshrugged.

Speaker 3 (33:47):
I left wrist to me and remained double 17 to 3.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
fought them and then 8 to their birdie and knocked it
up there about 6.
Birdie in 18, that's a $500super skid it was.
We'll take that.
If you can get through a 16, 17, 18 at or near par, that's
still good with those holes.
So, coming in today tied forfirst, we went out and chatted

(34:15):
to 76 with a double and 18.
Well, all because we're the ESLfront nine, that was actually
five over after eight holes andthat was four passes.
And then we got to nine and Ihad a perfect drive the main
facility.
And then 10, I hit it rightover the top of the flag, missed
the putt.
And then we got to 9th and Ihad a perfect drive the main, so
I delete.
And then 10, I hit it rightover the top of the flag, missed

(34:37):
the putt 11, I'm buried, andthen I buried 13, else in the
north I buried 11, 14, and 16.
16 was another great shot.
I hit on par 3.
I just absolutely hit oneagainst a wind right up there
about 12 feet from me.
So I think it was a really nice18, I kinda screwed up.
I was aiming up to the rightlittle hole and I kinda laid

(34:59):
over the top a little bit in thewater.
But I know we had a five shot.

Speaker 5 (35:02):
Yeah, I mean, you had a pretty good yeah, pretty good
cushion.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
So yeah, at first you know, obviously we're kind of
at a 34 team.
That was really close.
We had three guys all liketogether and then you know,
those guys kind of moved.
Yeah, you made a triple and theother guy made a double and I
made a.
There was one goal I made, Ialready, he made a triple, so it
was a it's a push-push swing.
So it was like you know, really, that was really kind of, the

(35:26):
team got me ahead by a coupleshots and I just maintained from
there what in this tournamentis a great way to start the year
.
Obviously, you're naturallytaken care of, but as tour
director, what's next for thesenior tour?
We have in Charlotte, we havethe Outland Dilling Lakes, which

(35:48):
is the senior course at DelWebb, and we have set next
Saturday, which is pretty good,it's an all-day Wednesday, and
then we go to Edgewaters for thesenior course Simone.

Speaker 3 (36:04):
Salisbury, at least for Clemson's regular training.
It's just, you know a bunch ofclose punch quotes, all the
Frank venue things um.

Speaker 1 (36:11):
So yeah, things are our role and we had a great week
last week.
I mean it was, it was exactlyit's like we got lucky and we
had 60 degrees on Saturday forour regular meet and we had 70,
almost 75 degrees on Tuesdaywhen we played for the senior,
so it was a lot of fun.
How's registration coming forSequoia?

(36:35):
Really good.
We've got, I think, 70registered for the regular and
about 50 for the senior.

Speaker 4 (36:41):
But it's a relief, I'm not really too worried about
it, because everyone lovesSequoia.

Speaker 1 (36:48):
And the guys.
I've been talking to the guyshere and it's all like you know,
they want to come play.

Speaker 4 (36:53):
So I know we're not going to have an issue.

Speaker 1 (36:56):
Yes, so if you haven't registered for that yet,
if you haven't registered forany of the regions that you want
to go to, don't wait, becausethey will sell out, yeah don't
wait.
I would say by the end of Marchwe'll be sold out for the May
8th and then probably with thesenior, because we have more
seniors that have to do a rateof 10 numbers.
So we'll sell out.
You know, early April for acasino as well, and I know a lot

(37:19):
of guys are like excitedbecause they love the casino.
You've got a great rate.
I mean we got, we got a weekendrate of $189, which is usually
$499.
We got weekday rate of $89.
That's pretty good, yeah.
So I mean the casino andeverybody you know we'll just
gamble and have a good time.
Have a great time.

Speaker 4 (37:37):
Well.

Speaker 1 (37:38):
Scott, thanks so much for taking a couple minutes
with us.
I appreciate it andcongratulations, and we'll see
you soon.
Thank you so much.
All right, we're back atPlantation Field with the Beef
Lake champion Larry Hyman fromAugusta.
Larry, you had a good couple ofdays.
I did Thanks a lot, Appreciateit.
You were a compliment.
5-over third tournament.
Yeah, 5-over.

(37:58):
It's the lowest.
Kevin McGrath, Lee Miller shot.
That's pretty awesome.
Well, you shot 5-over.
Yesterday you shot even moretoday.
Even more today.
Let's start with Langdon's,because he shot B play player
shot five over seven, that is,he's just played.
That's a phenomenal squad, sowalk us through it.
Well, start, don't even fallaround, unfortunately, how they

(38:21):
could make the guys who watchfriendly not there's, I knew,
don't drop open.
We get to play good golf, playeach other and fuck.
Fuck.
It's Saturday evening.
My game is short on the beat.
Hopefully you hit agreement too.
I was fortunate enough to dothat and I probably made more
feet of food than ScottieSheffield.

(38:42):
As long as you make it, that'sall that matters, right?
So you want some chips.
So anytime you don't have them,it makes it even better.
So, clive, over the next week,a day on a hair and point course
, even you know, I don't evenwant to talk about it, but you
both beat her 18.
I did.

(39:03):
So I mean you threw better whenit came.
I had about a 10-footer per car18, a driver, full wood and a
wedge that's how it plays for meinto the wind, well, you know.
So we probably had the champflight when it come through and
then the A-flight when it comethrough.
So you beat both of them.
So the champ flight playerdoubled 18.
Oh, no, a-flight player doubled18.

(39:26):
You both beat 18.
But, Andy, even par we let'sfrom the weather.
You go where is actually my bestcorner?
I see their lowest.
Oh okay, so what do you shoot?

Speaker 2 (39:45):
national championship here just, oh, my goodness and
would have played.

Speaker 1 (39:49):
So there you go, it's in the record and that's the
thing to show you anything canhappen to anybody, any
tournament, I tell you.
86 practice rounds on Thursday, that's all.
And these are easy courses, youknow, sir.
So you come out here.
They're very nice, thewell-conditioned, we enjoy

(40:09):
coming here to play.
How about the weather?

Speaker 5 (40:18):
Oh well, 70s sunny short, so good that came out
here yesterday and skipped thewhole game.

Speaker 1 (40:21):
I said get that, tomorrow at the motor I'll
definitely be in shorts.
And I told my wife, because welive through here, I said you
need sunscreen already.
So there's some sunscreen today.
We're going to have to do it.
So beautiful weather we had twoweeks ago we had to let you
know.
That's true, you know.
So yeah, I'm from Augusta.
We did really well.
So if you miss this tournament,it's on you.

(40:42):
At least come out here nextyear and do it.
So when's the next format foryou?
Local tournament in Augusta?
It'll be Westlake.
That's a good one, beautifulguy.
I've asked the guys that I'veplayed with all weekend.
They said, man, if you get achance, come down and play, play
Augusta, tell me about it as aguest, we'll look.

(41:04):
Yes, steve Kuehl, your kid.
He and I were actually talkingabout that like 10 minutes ago.
Some of the courses he's gotyou, they're not phenomenal.
I want to thank Dennis forputting on the show here.
It was beautiful.
The course is in greatcondition.
The people that worked on itmanicure Well.
Kind of a good one to put toshow.
You won by seven strokes.

(41:25):
I mean I'll say it's a heck ofa job.
Congratulations on winning.
You know you got your nationalchampionship win for it.
I swore I heard.
So that's take care of him.
Right off the get-go I didn'tknow what I was paying for.
I thought I was disqualified.
You're made for it.
How about that?
That's awesome.
You can't ask for anythingbetter, right?
No, no way.

(41:45):
Well, larry, thanks a lot again.
Take care of yourself and we'llsee you soon.
All right, thank you very much.
All right, back in thePlantation Club with the Sea
Flight Champion from the AugustaTour, john Cullen.
John, congratulations, it waskind of tight coming down the
end.
It looks like I just keepsitting in here watching and
keep refreshing, refreshing,refreshing.
You came from I think it wassix strokes back.

(42:06):
I was seven back.
I'm back up and into the day Isaid.
That's a pretty good day.
So let's start with guess yourAtlanta Dunes.
Tell me about that Great course.
I love Atlanta Dunes.
I love coming down there andplaying that course.
It's one of my favorites, it is.

Speaker 2 (42:18):
You got to hit the ball.
Well, I hit it decent, anythingthat you'll take.
Any time you play that courseand I did enjoy that.

Speaker 1 (42:32):
How'd you finish 16, 17, and 8?
Because to me there's fiveholes in that course out of
local.
Okay, 16, 17, and 8, let's doanother first.
How'd you finish 16?
So 16, I farted.
I bogeyed 17,.
I bogeyed 8.
For a sea flight player, that'sgood.
That's really good.
When I look at champ flight, champ flight can come through
there at even one over.
They're really playing well.
So a sea flight player comingin at two over and there's three

(42:53):
holes, that's great.
How'd you go in 15?
Part three hit into the water.
That's probably one of myfavorite holes.

Speaker 2 (42:59):
That's one of my favorite courses on the island.
I come down here about sixtimes a year, so that's one of
my favorite holes on the island.
I actually bogeyed that hole aswell.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
Left edge of the green and three putter where I
went mad.
I just love it all.
But nine, because nine is alsosomething you can walk.
A lot of times you walk awayjust cussing on your breath.

Speaker 4 (43:18):
Yeah, nine, I double-low-read that hole.
I had a good drive when I hitmy driver hole.
Actually, you take a picture.

Speaker 1 (43:26):
I bombed it.

Speaker 2 (43:26):
The driver just rolled into the mulch by one
foot and it got next to the limband I didn't really have a shot
, so I just kind of had to punchout and then just kind of
muffled them from there.

Speaker 1 (43:35):
But I say the stroke, you know I got a nevel bow, you
know.
From that point you take it.
Yes, exactly.
So coming into today you gotseven strokes back.
You played really pretty evenand you know, and you work in
the final group, which may havebeen a good thing.
So you played really well untilthe final two holes you tripled

(44:03):
17 and then double 18.
But I'm not even going to,we're going to discount 18.
I'll tell everybody why here ina second.
I was 17.
17,.
So I'll tell everybody why.
Here in a second.
How old is he?
He's 17.
17,.
So I haven't been in a drive,ride all day.
I can hit my three-wheel farenough on that course.
Play fine, I am a high bridgeas well.
We'll drive around the hole forsome reason, wide open,
glorified, and no business board, and I flared it right and it

(44:25):
was out of bounds by six, eightinches.

Speaker 2 (44:31):
It Bounds by six, eight inches.
It was out of bounds.
It was one of the ones where itwas iffy, but it was out of
bounds and I think it's out ofbounds.
I've been feeling the way itworks and then I couldn't say be
a dick in there, so I tripledit.

Speaker 1 (44:41):
And again, that is what it is.
You have to open the door.
You have to open the door tothat behind you and then AT you,
double bow to me.
And then 18, he double bogeyed.
But here's the thing with 18 18is a tough hole, it's a, it's a
tough wind streak up a littlebit from earlier today.
And when I look at the otherwinners, champ played double a
flight, double b flight, bogeyed.

(45:01):
So you know, that's somethingyou have to really kind of
consider when, when the otherflight winners are doing the
same thing, that tells you thathole is being tucked.
Yeah, it's a hard hole.
Right now I'm playing into thatway and I know yardage rights
is not overly small, but it'splaying 50, 60 yards further
than what it says.
You got the water on theleft-hand side, you're coming in

(45:25):
and you got to be smart.
That's a play.
Anyway, what's next for you?

Speaker 2 (45:33):
I'm probably going to go ahead and sign up for the
regional over in Alabama, Okayyep, first off, I'll go ahead
and probably do that one, ourregular tour.
I think it starts sometime inMarch.
I'll hit a few of those.
I'll sign up for a regular theRedditor tour as well and just
bounce.
I like playing where you knowI'm like I don't know.
I like just playing where Iwant to play, like I've played

(45:54):
multiple tours all over and Ijust kind of feel like playing
and I'd say, of course I like Igo paint.

Speaker 1 (45:59):
Yeah, I mean you come over and play in the end.
Yeah, I agree so well.
You know National is and it'sUPA, mask people cool that's.
I'll be hearing more.
That's one thing I'll push.
You got to worry about.
So I appreciate it.
Congratulations, and we'll seeyou around soon.
Thank you, but take care, shit.
All right back in the plantationclub with our final winner of

(46:19):
the tournament, phil rosper fromthe indian athletes tour.
Phil, congratulations, thankyou very much.
I appreciate it.
You're the first wire wirewinner we've had today.
You're leading, leadingyesterday by, I think, two or
three strokes, three, threestrokes and you beat Mitch Green
from the Charlotte Tour todayby two strokes.
He had a good day, but you justcontinue to play steady.

(46:41):
So congratulations, thank you.
You mentioned Mitch and he was apleasure to play with, and
that's not he wasn't, that's not.
He was pushing, and so was Adam, and so was, believe it or not,
michael Jordan.
Yes, I heard Michael Jordan washere.
He was.
I looked at him and youmentioned on the way in that

(47:04):
Robert was here and he's alwayshanging out.
He was third before.
He's a two-time nationalchampion, back-to-back, yeah.
So you always got to be carefulabout him because he will
always show up.
He came out of nowhere.
Today he sure did, yeah, hesure did.
So let's talk about your roundyesterday at Lane Tunes.
How'd that go?

(47:25):
It was steady, which isextremely unusual for me.
I think I had two triples andother than that it was kind of a
mix of pars and bowies and itworked out Quite.
Frankly, I played in theNationals maybe three or four
times.
I played in this the secondyear now and I've never played
these courses as well as I'veplayed the last two days.

(47:46):
That's all I ever.
Well, that's awesome.
And to win a regional know, towin a regional you have to have,
you have to put back-to-backrounds together.
You can't just have one goodround and expect to win.
So put two rounds, two goodrounds, back-to-back.
That's what you really have todo.
Well, I actually tried to playsmart for once Again, that never

(48:07):
ends up working out for me.
All 18 driving or six iron I'mmaybe 45 yards away nine iron,
punch and run because everybodyelse is going in the water.
It's like let's do it on degreeor try to two putt wampaloa.
So did you both do par bogey?
I bogeyed it okay.
So just so so that you knowchamp flight double bogey winner

(48:29):
.
A flight double bogey winner.
A flight winner.
Double bogey B flight winnerbogey C flight winner.
Double D flight winner bogey.
So none of the winners part ofthat hole.
So that tells you really howdifficult that hole is playing.
To apply to Sabine B.

(48:50):
And that's, you know, forsomebody that's deflated, that's
really what needs to be done.
You know what I mean, becausetrying to make cars, trying to
force ball and get the bogey andwalk away like you're screwed
up, you know bogey is far, yeah, and so that's awesome.
I got to give Crep to know likeI didn't putt that great to

(49:12):
David.
I walk out of the condo.
She says remember, stand closerto the ball, eyes straight down
.
I got to give her some credit.
So this is going to go live noton Monday, but two weeks from
now.
I'll send you the link.
Make sure that she watches thatso she can't ever say you never

(49:34):
got ready to crash, never.
All right, so make sure shewatches there.
So I see you've got a Vietnamveteran hat on you.
A veteran, thank you.
So I'm a two-tour, two-injuryshort in tourism duty in Vietnam
.
God bless you.
God bless you.
Thank you so much for yourservice.
God bless you.
God bless you.
Thank you so much for yourservice.
Appreciate it.
So what's next for you, besidesgoing home where it's cold?
Well, go back to Indianapolisand wait for the tourist tour.

(49:56):
I think the first one's inApril, so we'll see what the
weather's like.
It's usually soggier than it'llget out in April.
Well, you know, you don't haveto live up.
Tell my wife that I've beentelling her.
So here's what you do.
Okay, you remember.
So you're going to listen tothis.
So you gave her credit for that.
She's got to listen to you andsay okay, you're right, we need

(50:17):
to boost out.
There you go.
Good luck with that, let meknow how it works out, I'll let
you know.
Thanks so much again.
Congratulations.
You know national championshipis paid for, so hopefully we'll
see you around here real soon.
Sounds great.
Thank you very much.
I appreciate it.
All right, take care.
Let's take a break from theshow to hear about Strixon's ZX
Mark II irons.

Speaker 5 (50:37):
A great iron set needs more than good looks.
It's got to be fast and got tobe pure, but good looks never
hurt either.
The all-new ZX Mark II ironsfrom Strixon.

Speaker 1 (50:52):
Chris, I really do enjoy interviewing winners.
You know after regionals andafter nationals you get a chance
to talk to the guys and let'sjust say the winners Number one,
how excited they are.
Number two you know especiallywhere we were for the senior

(51:18):
icebreaker.
Those are two really toughcourses and you're playing them
back-to-back but again, niceweather this year for that, so
it was a pleasant surprise.
But if you look at the winnersB-Flight winner shot his two
lowest rounds ever back-to-back.

(51:38):
Everybody was shocked.
It's one of those times whenpeople say, oh, you know, check
his numbers, check his numbers.
Yeah, go ahead, go ahead andpull up his numbers and check
Everybody on his tour.
That was that was there.
I mean, they won, they wereshocked, but so happy for him to

(52:02):
turn in those two rounds likethat.
That's really such a goodfeeling.

Speaker 2 (52:07):
Yeah, it is.
It's when you catch lightningin a bottle, basically for a
weekend, and, uh, being able toget those low rounds.
I mean, I know, especially inour tour, when somebody comes
with a low round, you're happyfor them and that's the last
thing you want to do is checktheir scores.
Um, so it's good to see, and todo it for two rounds on two

(52:27):
difficult courses, that's justan awesome weekend and you can't
get off that high for a while.
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (52:35):
And to secure your spot in the national
championship.
You know, the first weekend ofthe year, that's a huge weight
lifted off everybody.
Anyway, right, right.
I mean, you know, with thattournament, not only did you
qualify, but it's taken care of,it's paid for.
So now you don't necessarilyhave to worry about qualifying.

(52:58):
Yeah, you still have to playyour events, but you don't
necessarily have to worry about,oh my gosh, if I don't finish
in fourth place, I'm not goingto get enough points.
Right, right, right, right.
You can go out there, you canwork on your game.
You can get better points.
Right, right, right, right.
Um, you can go out there, youcan work on your game.
You can get better.
You can start to peak when youreally need to peak and not
necessarily have to presscorrect.

Speaker 2 (53:16):
No, that's good, that's a good point.
And, uh, it allows your yourseason to be, um, to have less
stress.
Uh, because now you're justplaying, uh, stress-free golf
and you're just trying to do thebest you can that particular
day and not have to really worryabout, like you said, the
points race.
You're already qualified, you're already in, but then you

(53:38):
can already start your planningfor that trip too.

Speaker 1 (53:40):
Right, but you know, book your Airbnb today, do it
now, Might as well get it donenow, exactly, exactly Do it now
Might as well get it done now,Exactly, Exactly.
You know we've got.
I cannot believe that it's theend of February, dude.

Speaker 2 (53:58):
Yeah, I can't either.
It's gone too fast.
I mean, before you know it, youknow we're going to be hitting
some regionals and then havingdirectors meeting and hopefully
have some some new bourbon outthere.
Let's hope so.

Speaker 1 (54:15):
Let's hope so.
I mean the bourbon I'm talkingabout you know everything else.
If the time could just slowdown just a little bit, that'd
be nice.
I mean, you know, we've got.
We got two other regions comingup here real soon.
We just had the four ball thispast weekend.

(54:35):
And let me tell you something.

Speaker 2 (54:44):
It was cold.
It was cold Bundle up.
They bundled up because, fromwhat I heard, it was not a
pleasant temperature.

Speaker 1 (54:55):
Maybe they played fast.
I doubt it.
I got to talk to them and seeif they played fast.
They actually played.
If it were me, we'd be playingreal fast.
Let's go, let's go.
But I mean, we've got.
Uh, the virginia regional comesout.
I mean, the next episode afterthis one comes out, after the

(55:19):
virginia regional on march 8thand 9th at kingsville.
And, by the way, if you, if youhaven't registered for that yet
, it's too late, sorry alreadysold out?

Speaker 2 (55:27):
yes, sold out.
Uh, all paid for 180 playersman, that's awesome, that's
awesome.
That's a circus in itself totry to get all those groups
paired up.
Trust me, I know 180 players.

Speaker 1 (55:43):
Yeah, I've been there and you know when we did
Whistling Straights, that firstyear we did, we were at 180.
We did two rounds.
Uh-huh, you know, we did amorning flight and an afternoon,
late evening flight.

Speaker 2 (56:04):
Let's just call it that you know, I remember that I
went to that one.

Speaker 3 (56:09):
Having.

Speaker 2 (56:09):
To run in on 18 before you lose all light, you
know you got to do what you gotto do.

Speaker 1 (56:14):
But then after that, the very next weekend is St
Patrick's Day at Pauly's TrueBlue.
Yeah, that puts us in themiddle of March and we're really
rolling.
I do believe that there aresome Spots open for St Patrick's
Day Regional, so if you havenot registered for that one,
please do.

Speaker 2 (56:36):
There's some spots open for that, one Might as well
throw it out there now as well.
The ones in April too April 5thand 6th, the Shoals Regional
that one's got plenty of spotsopen, the ones in.
April too.
April 5th and 6th, the ShoalsRegional Yep, that one's got
plenty of spots open, yep.
And then you have the one thatyou know I'm hoping you'll be
there with me the Ohio Regionalat Firestone Country Club.

Speaker 3 (57:00):
Yeah, I'll be there.

Speaker 2 (57:01):
There's a lot of spots open for that one as well.

Speaker 1 (57:05):
Yeah, I think that's going to start filling up.
Lot of spots open for that oneas well.
Yeah, I, I think I think that'sgoing to start filling up.
Um, you know, I had aconversation with uh, an unnamed
tour director, last night afterum, you and I got off the phone
and they were.
They were a little worried.
I told them just relax.
I mean, it's no, no, just relax, it's it, it's, it's gonna be

(57:26):
fine.

Speaker 2 (57:26):
Um, especially for being a new one too like you you
have to.
You know people have plans ofwhat which ones they're gonna go
to and which ones are not.
Yeah, um, I know you know, meand my regional traveling group
we we already kind of roughestimate on which ones we're
gonna go to and then ifsomething else pops up, it's

(57:47):
like all right, let's changeplans, let's pivot real quick.
Um, but I mean, you, you haveto be patient, you have to wait.
I mean, if you look at it rightnow, um, for instance, one of
the bigger ones, the tpcscottsdale one, there's only 21
players registered.
Yeah, that's so you can't reallybe concerned too much about uh,

(58:10):
where you're at right now, because you still got you know
once this podcast comes out.

Speaker 1 (58:16):
A full month of registration, so exactly so, so
that'll be fine, but, but, butalmost all these regions are
going to sell out.
So don't wait, just go aheadand sign up and get registered
and let's get going.

Speaker 2 (58:33):
Yes, don't wait.
You don't want to be the lastone that hopes to get in because
somebody drops out or whatever.

Speaker 1 (58:40):
Exactly, exactly.
So.
Then we've got the contest forthe year.
Contest for the year.

Speaker 2 (58:47):
Contest for the year you know.

Speaker 4 (58:50):
We do have our.

Speaker 2 (58:52):
We have one entry.
We're not going to say what orwho, but we would like somebody
to compete Against that oneentry when we present to the big
boss.
So you know, get on your tourdirectors, ask them if they've
submitted.
All you got to do is ask haveyou submitted your member entry
for the month for the podcast?

Speaker 1 (59:14):
So that somebody can win, you know, free entry in the
national championship and wecan honor somebody who is the
epitome of what we're lookingfor in a member of the tour.

Speaker 2 (59:26):
Yes, definitely, and they're out there.

Speaker 1 (59:31):
I mean they're all over the country.
I mean they really are.
I mean I can look at theAtlanta tour and I can pick a
handful of guys.
That are the guys.
That man number one, thank youfor being a member of the tour,
thank you for being a championof the tour, all those things.

(59:52):
And I know you've got guys likethat.
And when we were at the SeniorRegional looking at some of the
guys that were playing I knowyou from this tour, I know you
from that tour looking at someof the guys that they were
playing oh, I know I know youfrom this tour.
I know you from that tour.
You know all those things thatwe that we always talk about
those guys are are around and uhneed to make sure that our tour

(01:00:16):
directors are recognizing itFor sure.

Speaker 2 (01:00:18):
Get it in get it in quick Cause.
Before you know at the end ofthe month it's going to happen,
Just like halfway through theseason is going to happen, and
you don't even know whathappened.

Speaker 1 (01:00:28):
Exactly so.
The real issue for this episodewe're going to focus on Chris
no no no, this is what theepisode is all about.
No, it's not.
I had to do a welfare check onyou a couple weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (01:00:46):
Yes, you did.
Yes, you and a handful of otherpeople did.
This is what I don't like aboutthe live scoring system now is
that everybody gets to see whatyou shoot any given day.
Well, before that, you loved it, right, right.
And then you go out there andyou throw out a score that you

(01:01:10):
thought you would never seeagain in your career, and it
happened, and it happened with apickup on 18.
I didn't even make it to thegreen on 18.

Speaker 1 (01:01:31):
That's a good thing.
Just, you know, Face the play.
Yeah, let it go.
I mean you can't be the oneholding everybody up.

Speaker 2 (01:01:41):
Right, right, especially when you're playing
with the champ flight guys.
You don't want to hold them up,right?
You can?

Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
can't be that guy um, so so what happened was it?
Was it just a?
I know it was windy because andthe only reason why I know it
was windy because I saw a postthat you had on on instagram or
something.
Something instagram, facebook,I don't know where it was, but I
saw it and you were giving theannouncements, and don't know
where it was, but I saw it andyou were giving the

(01:02:07):
announcements and it was windy.

Speaker 2 (01:02:08):
Yeah, it was windy for a good portion of it, but it
was also tough conditions.
You know we have the privilegeof being able to start our
season end of January, earlyFebruary, but 90% of the courses
are still under winter grassera, so it's just things that we
have to deal with it.
This one was a little bit moredrier than the other ones and

(01:02:33):
just some tough breaks.
Man Like I hit front of thegreens, nice approach shot and
it would roll through and downthe hill onto the cart path
behind the green.
It's just like you know whatcan I do then?
So just really tough breaks, tried to mentally stay in it the
best I could.
Had a couple pars in the back, had some birdie chances, just

(01:02:57):
couldn't convert and then justhit a brick wall on one hole and
it kind of just tumbled fromthere.
But I'm glad I got it out of mysystem and we'll see what
happens at my next event Hit therange for two and a half hours
a couple days after that after Iwas done tending to my wounds

(01:03:19):
and had a good session.
So we'll see what happens.

Speaker 1 (01:03:22):
You know, looking at the scores for everybody when I
tore them they were high.
I mean winning score forA-Flight was 86.
Right.

Speaker 4 (01:03:35):
You know winning score for B-Flight Stephanie.

Speaker 2 (01:03:38):
God bless, her was 90 .
And so that one, listen to thisone, that one, she was going
into her last hole with KenCopeland and if they both parred
no, if Ken parred and shebogeyed which was possible in
that hole because there's waterall on the right side we would

(01:04:05):
have had a five-way playoff.

Speaker 1 (01:04:09):
For first place.
Oh, my God, you ever had afive-player playoff?
I don't know, I think probablythree or four is probably.
I know I can rememberdefinitely some threes.
Maybe you've had a four.

Speaker 2 (01:04:24):
Yeah, I was kind of rooting for it, not going to lie
, but she ended up parring andtaking the win by one.
But I mean we were all therewaiting.
You could see everybodyrefreshing their phones trying
to turn the score and I had tokeep reminding people like, hey,
there could be something wrong,it might not be accurate, we
have to wait and kind of verifyand make sure.

(01:04:44):
And sure enough, she par partedto take the win.

Speaker 1 (01:04:48):
I like seeing her name up top of the leaderboard.
But even again, you know, witha 90 in the B-Flight that's high
.

Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
Right, that's a 21 event index, so it is high.
But I mean, besides D-Flight,who won by six strokes,
everybody else won by one andeven the champ flyter.
He came back, he was down threeor four strokes with five holes

(01:05:17):
to go and came back to win.
So it shows you that it doesn'tend until after 18 holes.
That's for sure, exactly, evenif you have to pick up Right,
exactly, even if you have topick up right.
Even if you have to pick up, Imean even even the second place
for d flight.
He's 13 or 14 years old goodfor him and uh just wants to get

(01:05:43):
more competitive golf.
So it was his first tournamentas a golf week member and took
second place.

Speaker 3 (01:05:50):
So Awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:05:53):
Let's let him get a couple rounds in, and maybe we
get him one over the summer.

Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
Yeah, definitely.
I know he was excited to playand you can just see in his face
when he came back talking aboutthe holes and what he did here
and what he did there.
He was just super stoked toeven be in the top half of it.
That's awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
How did he find us?

Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
His dad plays on the tour.
He's a good friend of mine, sofinally he wanted to play and
he's playing on the school team.
Finally he wanted to play andhe's playing on the school team.
And it was just like I told himlet's give them some more
competition, let's see what wecan do.

Speaker 1 (01:06:35):
You know that's a really good point, you know.
So we had Jared, that's how hegot involved with it.
And now what's his name?
Asher Asher Lopez.
Asher Asher Lopez, I mean.
So that's two.
You know if you're members ornot members, and you hear this

(01:06:57):
the tour is a great place forhigh school students to come out
and get that competition.
It's actually a great place forcollege students to come out
and get some competition oversummer as well.

Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
It just keeps that competitive flow.
As opposed to just going andbeating up on your friends
because you're a college golferand they're not, or just going
out and playing practice rounds, you have to actually take it as
a competitive round.
Think about every shot, thinkabout every putt.
Take it as a competitive round.
Think about every shot, thinkabout every putt.
If a guy's right behind yourtail, you're right behind their

(01:07:33):
tail, like it makes you createsituations so that when you're
in season and that situationcomes up, you can remember what
you did and maybe it'll help youcalm down, or or who knows what
yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
And I'm not saying you put Asher with HB anytime
soon, but that would be a goodround for him, right, right.
And again, I'm not puttingpressure on anybody, but if you
take a young kid like that andput him with somebody like HB,
and you know HB is going to be agood mentor to him, right,

(01:08:08):
right, this is, this, is what itcould be, this is this is what,
what, what you could aspire to,and and and get there.
You can do that here, here withus.
You know, just imagine, youknow all of the elite golfers
from the champ side that we haveacross the tour, if they play

(01:08:32):
with a high school player onceor twice a year, what that could
do for motivation andself-esteem for those high
school players.
Because, again, at least allthe champ play guys that we've
talked to here, they're, they're, they're nice people, they're

(01:08:54):
they're always willing to helpand real humble, and they all,
they all get the whole idea ofwanting to grow the game and
that's something that's possiblehere.

Speaker 2 (01:09:05):
Right Completely agree.

Speaker 1 (01:09:10):
So maybe you should spend some time with HB I don't
know if he's going to want youaround, because that's a
completely different dynamicthere.

Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
Oh man, I'm just glad it's over with.
Every time that I've looked Iactually went back and looked at
the last time I shot 100, whichwas about three years ago, and
the last round after that was areal low round.

(01:09:41):
So hopefully you know thestreak continues.
But man, it was a long hour anda half drive back home.
I don't think I put any musicon or anything, I was just
trying to figure out whathappened.
And you know, and it's, it'sdifficult because, like, you
finish around like this, right, you check scorecards, you,

(01:10:02):
you're running to the table toget to start checking in score
cards and doing awards, all that.
You don't even have time todecompress and process this.
Um, and then you have half yourtour coming up to me like, did
you really shoot a 100?
Like, no, I, I just put upthere for the fun of it, right,

(01:10:24):
and then, and then we had oneguy in our flight withdraw and
uh, I had a comment come insaying dang the, the withdrawal
guy almost beat you today.
I'm like, wow, well come on now.

Speaker 1 (01:10:37):
Now come on.
I I'm all for giving you a hardtime, but that's, that's savage
, right there, man.

Speaker 2 (01:10:43):
You know that's hey, it comes with the territory, I
guess it does.

Speaker 1 (01:10:49):
I don't know that I'd do that to you, I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:10:51):
I'd think about it.
I would do that.
But it's fun though, and that'sthe story.
We laugh about it.
So when I come out my nextevent in Shooter 75, I don't
want to hear anyone sayinganything they better not.

Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
I mean it again it is go back to anyone saying
anything.
They better not.
I mean again it is worth goback to go back to.
I won the B-Flight in SeniorIcebreaker.
Go, look at his scores and whathe shot at National
Championship.
Again, I'm not making fun of,I'm not making fun of right, I'm
just I'm just saying it.
Anything can happen, anythingcan happen, anything can happen

(01:11:27):
and it is what it is.
Let's celebrate those goodthings and make fun of the bad
things, right?

Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
For some people, For some For others.
Let's just check on them, makesure they're okay.

Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
How's Billy doing?
You know, he's doing good.
I'm actually gonna gonna.
He's coming out to my nextevent, so we're gonna play
together, okay.
But no, he's doing good.
He's traveling the world beinga influencer now.

Speaker 1 (01:11:57):
So for him, good for him well, tell him and HB, I
asked about him and look forwardto seeing him sometime soon
Will do.

Speaker 2 (01:12:08):
I know Billy's going to Firestone Awesome, that's the
one that we decided to do.
So well, you know he'll be outthere with us, chris Sazzo will
be out there with us, and I'mgoing to try and bring a good
handful of guys out there, soit's going to be a fun time.

Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
So wait a second here .
Let's just take a step back andlet's talk this through for a
second.
So we're going to have thoseguys with the Columbus crew.
I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
I don't.

Speaker 1 (01:12:43):
Oh my, it's a good thing, it's a 130 shotgun.

Speaker 2 (01:12:46):
I know, get a little sleep in, but it'll be fun.
It's gonna be a fun time.

Speaker 1 (01:12:55):
I can't wait yeah, it's gonna be good times.
That's gonna be good times I'mlooking for.
I'm really looking forward toseeing Mickey and those guys in
Firestone, but oh my goodnessseen making those guys at
Firestone.

Speaker 4 (01:13:10):
but you, oh my goodness.

Speaker 1 (01:13:12):
Oh, it's going to be great, it's going to be great.
All right, my friend, alwaysgood seeing you.
Likewise, tell those guys.
I said hey, and everybody outthere, let's get registered for
tournaments, let's getregistered for tournaments,
let's get registered forregionals, because we're train's

(01:13:32):
going but we're rolling.

Speaker 2 (01:13:34):
Yeah, quicker than we would have hoped, yep.

Speaker 1 (01:13:37):
Bye, my friend.

Speaker 2 (01:13:40):
We'll be safe out there.
Likewise, I'll talk to you.
Bye, bye, I'll talk to you, you.
