What does it really take to go really low in Amateur Golf Competition? In this episode of Golfweek Amateur Tour – The Podcast, hosts Tim Newman and Chris Rocha sit down with Lance LaCombe, fresh off firing a bogey-free 63 at the Slammer & Squire course at World Golf Village, one of the lowest rounds ever recorded on the Golfweek Amateur Tour.

Lance takes us deep inside the championship mindset, sharing how he kept his head clear, managed every shot with intention, and why avoiding doubles is often more important than chasing birdies. You’ll hear how mental clarity, strategic course management, and knowing your own tendencies are the keys to scoring and how most players are just one mental mistake away from blowing up a round.

But that’s not all.

We also catch up with the flight champions from the 2025 Virginia Tech Regional, including A-flight’s comeback story of the week, an 82 followed by a 71. Every champion shares their unique approach to preparation, performance, and what it feels like to grind out a win in a high-stakes amateur golf tournament.

We wrap the episode with a data-packed look at some of the lowest scores in Amateur Golf Tour history, from legends like Joe Jaspers and Jeff Wong, and how those players continue to separate themselves through consistent, smart, competitive golf.

This episode is packed with insights for anyone playing Amateur Golf—from seasoned Championship Flight competitors to Weekend Warriors grinding for their first win. It’s all about mindset, strategy, and learning from the best.

Ladies and gentlemen, golf Week Amateur Tour proudly

things Golf Week Amateur Tour, including interviews with tour
directors, players and courseprofessionals.
Now here are your hosts, timNewman and El Paso Las Cruces.
Tour Director, chris Rocha.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Chris, welcome back.
I got to get you one more timebefore you get on that plane to
go to Hawaii, in case you nevercome back.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
I'll be back, don't worry about it.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
I can't leave you doing this all by yourself, yeah
, and I'm not getting up at 2 inthe morning to do this.
I love you and all, but there'sjust no way.
No, but we've had a really goodweekend recently, had a couple

(04:27):
63s and you know, one guy Ithink was 63, 68, and Dennis
said that's the lowest two-dayscore that he can ever remember
for a two-day tournament.
So we're not going to talk tohim today, but we will talk to
the other 63.
We got a good episode.
But one thing I want to ask youabout.

(04:48):
You know we've been, we've beenmaking just a couple of
structural changes that you know.
Maybe a lot of people don't,don't realize, but I've been
putting a lot of effort into theYouTube thumbnails you have.
You know that.
I know you know that because Isent you some.
I sent you some some picturesthat that don't go anywhere else

(05:10):
.
So what I'd like you all to dois just let me know what you
think of them, because I'm justputting a lot of effort into
them, trying to make them fun, trying to make them indicative
to the tone of what we do here.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Yeah, I mean it's, it's a good time and uh, I'm
glad that the other picturesthat you have sent me aren't
going anywhere.
But, um, it's funny man, it's,it's all for fun and that's all
I can bet it is.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
It is.
It is so okay.
We got a really good episode.
Our first guest Shot 63.
He's been a guest before.
He's from the North CentralTour and I know you all are
going to know his name.
Let's go ahead and bring inLance Lacombe.

(06:01):
Lance, welcome to the show, bud.
How's it going?
Guys Doing awesome?
Another 63, and congratulations.

Speaker 6 (06:12):
I don't know how you do it.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
I think it's a little bit of luck at this point.
Well, my understanding is it'sa 63 with no bogeys.

Speaker 6 (06:20):
Yes, it was Like I said, we shook a couple
four-footers for par and itworked out.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
That's right.
Let's take what you can get.
Man, don't apologize ever.
You're the uh.
We talked a little bit offlinebefore we started here.
There was a 64 uh last week orthe week before from a kid in
minnesota.
His was also a no bogey 64.
So but here the thing, andwe'll get into this with you.
He said it was a 64, but itcould have been a 61.

Speaker 6 (06:51):
I like playing the coulda woulda shoulda because it
tends to hurt my feelings andthere there's a good story about
hurting my feelings really badwhen we left.
Okay.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
Well, let's, let's just jump into what happened.

Speaker 6 (07:02):
So, uh, there is the.
Well, let's just jump into it.
What happened?
So it's at the World GolfVillage the Slammer Aspire
Course, the King and Bear is theother one and in 2022, I shot
bogey for 62 in a golf event totie the course record there with
Chris Kirk, and we got done.
On Saturday my buddy was likeyeah, it might be the course
record.
I'm like I guarantee you Imissed about one, but let's go
ask.

(07:23):
So I walked in the second.
I walked in.
I'm like, hey, what's thecourse record?
This guy's looking at me likewho's this guy that came out
asking what the course record isand I get 62, and I'm like,
okay, I've heard my feelingsenough today and we just walked
out and my buddy's laughing asmuch as he can on the way out.
But it would have been fun.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Yeah, and especially at that place.
I mean, those courses arephenomenal courses.

Speaker 6 (07:47):
Oh yeah, they're great layouts, they're tough and
the good thing is like almostdoesn't matter what tees you
play, because every tee shot'sgoing to challenge you at some
point, depending where you hit.
So it's really good for likeevery flight.
Then you're going to get theperson that usually hit it the
best out there.
I mean, some courses are reallywide open and you can kind of
fake it off the tee or viceversa in other places, but out

(08:07):
there, if you don't hit itstraight, you're going to be
battling an alligator to findyour ball.
Tim doesn't do that, we don'tdo that Pass.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Do me a favor, just scooch over just a little bit,
because we're cutting half yourface off.
There we go.
I mean, if people have to lookat my face, they got to look at
everybody's face.
I'll try to hide half of it, atleast I understand.
So tell us about the roundoverall, because again, you've
got 62.
So when Dennis sent me thismessage about I don't know Chris

(08:41):
, it was actually like the nextday he sent this.
I was going to ask you for itanyway, but he sent all the
lowest scores ever.
So you've got a 62.
You're on this list.
A bunch.
You've got 62, 63, 65s.

Speaker 6 (09:00):
So tell us about the round and how that compared to
the one at King and Bear.
So King and Bear was relativelydry.
We got four inches of rain intwo days leading up to the this
saturday's event and that courseusually is pretty firm and fast
, so play is really short.
But with all the rain was carpath only, which I think helped
me, because then you're notthankful anything, you're more

(09:21):
worried about trying to hoofyourself back to the cart which
I'm getting old, I got a badfoot, so it takes a little bit
sometimes.
And then we had we had a goodgrouping.
Well, two of my best friends, kyle dodson, chase botson, and
then one of my buddies, trevarius, was playing.
So we everybody was in a goodmood and ended up just didn't
think he was gonna be a littlearound.

(09:41):
No warm-up, no range, we werejust hitting fun chip shots
around the greens and first ofall I hit driver wedge like 20
feet and left it right in theheart and I'm like here we go,
we're gonna have another daywhere we just can count all the
strokes you throw away.
And I just kind of easing theround, made a birdie on three
and then I took a ridiculouslyaggressive shot on four for no
reason, got lucky, made birdie.

(10:02):
But I made the turn at three.
And then my buddy who was inthe group front was just waiting
on the lead group and, um, he'slike, well, I'm one under, so
I'm gonna catch you.
You're three under.
So kind of lit a fire under meand then got it going.
I lipped out from the fairwayon 10, birdie 11, 12.
I left a 15, put it right inthe heart.

(10:24):
Then I almost made ace on 13,birdie 14.
And at that point I'm thinking,oh, I'm seven under.
I was like my record's 10 tiedwith someone else.
I'm like if we go full underthe last four, we could break
the record.
And then I missed my only greenof the day with a wedge in the
par 3, which was demoralizing.

(10:46):
And then, birdie 16, hit a goodchip in there for eagle, like 3
feet and 17,.
I had a feeling I was going tobirdie 18.
I don't know what it was.
I was just really confident.
Obviously, when you're playingwell and when you're getting
away within some shots, thatshouldn't do well, you're going
to be very confident.
So I hit a wedge to like sixfeet and I told myself, if I

(11:08):
make this, I'm shooting 62.
And when I tell you I snap, hooked this putt uphill that
broke right, I mean it was atight draw with the putter which
was just demoralizing at thepoint.
A tight draw my friend group,we're the kings of tight draws
with the putters.
Sometimes it's just bad.
And at that point my buddy chasewas three under going into 16,

(11:29):
and 16 is par five.
He's a long hitter so I'mthinking he might get to five or
six.
So when I got on 16 I'm like Igotta, I gotta put the pedal
down because you never know, Imean there's birdies out there
and 18.
I hit a good seven iron in fromlike 178 to like five feet mid
birdie.
And it was the weirdest feelingbecause I was so focused on
shooting 62 that like 63, likehurt.

(11:51):
But at the same time it's likeI didn't make a bogey, no
warm-up, I made every putt thatlike I was supposed to make.
So I can't really get mad, except that one tight draw.
But those happen a lot, especially this year in
tournaments.
Right, and uh came in.
Uh, my buddy, kyle donson, wona prop bet for 250 against chase
.
So it was a phenomenal day.

(12:11):
So we, uh I was more investedin kyle's round than I was mine,
which I think helped a lot, like how he hit six greens, made
two birdies, two bogeys and weI mean the whole group's fist
pump every time makes a six orfour par.
So we were no one was eventhinking about my sports.
We get on like 16 or 17.
So it was just like a perfectmental game day to where I

(12:32):
didn't even focus on.
I was trying to get out ofKyle's way and, luckily enough,
getting out of his way washitting it close a lot that day.
So I need to play a calm more,I think.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
So when they realized at 16, was it kind of like a
pitcher throwing a no-hitter?

Speaker 6 (12:46):
They just kind of left you alone, didn't talk to
you, made you ride by yourself, that type of thing A little bit,
because they asked me on 15,the par 3.
They're like Lance, are you 5?
I'm like, no, I'm 7.
They're like what?
I'm like, yeah, I don't knowwhat's going on, but we're kind
of blacking out on all these wetshots and I'm tired.

(13:07):
Then I miss the green.
They're like oh, shouldn't havesaid anything.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
Man, I mean Chris, it's got to be fun to watch.
I mean seriously.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
I bet I mean when you just get to hang out and watch
somebody hit some golf shots.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
It's always fun, good golf shots, right?
So let me ask it's kind of aseries of questions, okay, you
know, when we got thisinformation and I started
looking at all the tour's lowestscores, I went and kind of

(13:44):
pulled a handful of playersacross the country who have the
plus handicaps and just kind ofas a point of reference for
everybody, lance right now issitting at a he's a minus three
Of your scores and was sittingat a he's a minus three, okay,

(14:08):
of your scores, and this isdisgusting.
I mean it really is.
You don't have any.
Any of the scores that arebeing used are plus scores.
They're all minus, minus 7.2,minus 3.6, 3.2, blah, blah, blah
, right on down the road.
And what I wanted to do is Ilooked at your high scores.
They're all minus, minus 7.2,minus 3.6, 3.2, blah, blah, blah
, right on down the road.

(14:28):
And what I wanted to do is Ilooked at your high scores and,
chris, there weren't many Ofyour whole career with Golf Week
, right.
So I went.
There's not many.
I think you've got two, maybethree 70s, two maybe three 80s
and a 79.
And everything else is like a 75and below.

(14:50):
And so I looked and I went tosome other players you know that
have those types of handicapsand I'm finding the same thing.
And I'm thinking you know, whyis it that a good champ flight
player like you, the dispersionof high scores there really
isn't any compared to, let'sjust say, a good A-flight player
?
When you think about a goodA-flight player, most people

(15:14):
think, well, they're not reallythat far off.
But when you look at a goodA-flight player compared to you,
it's not even close.
Right, you're talking four orfive shots easy.
So why do you think there'sthat dispersion of high scores
for a good A-play player asopposed to a good champ player?

Speaker 6 (15:32):
So with playing with the guys like Joe Jaspers, wong,
corbin Holt, the biggest thingthat I see that we do in
particular is when you startbleeding you find a way to stop
it and if that means you got tostart hitting it 20 feet with a
wedge and not trying to go atflags just to preserve the score
until you kind of figure outwhere your swing's at, that's a

(15:54):
big thing.
And then for the most part wedon't take unnecessary risks
like we won't go for like anisland green with a free wood
that some people are like ohit's game which helps, and then
just picking the right club offthe tee, like sometimes I've
seen with like a flight and bflight from their tees they can

(16:14):
hit driver, but then they getdown to like a wedge number they
don't necessarily like rightand you know I would say the
average good a flight player isgoing to make the occasional
double from a number they don'tlike, just because you know they
get in your head.
You think about it a little toomuch.
I mean it happens to me too, like I do not like hitting nine
irons so I try to avoid those, but it just adds up.

(16:36):
If you can just make golf asmore like a driving range, if
that makes sense, like if you'regood from 100, 100, 120 and
you're not that great from 80and in I mean tiger played the
first four years of his careertry not hit inside 80 yards.
So if the greatest player everwas doing that, there should be
some merit to it.

(16:57):
And I've seen that with like alot of us.
When we'll go like with partfives, if it's like a tough pin,
if it's a short pin, we'retrying to hit tough pin.
If it's a short pin, we'retrying to hit it deep and if
it's a long pin, we're neverhitting a club that goes deep.
And I feel like sometimes we'reso focused with like the skin
spot and trying to hit it closewith a lot of people that you
sometimes take a club that youknow is going to get there but
might go deep, but you don'tthink about the bad shot.

(17:19):
And it's more like the decadegolf systems where I've been
using a lot this year.
It kind of helps you pick yourtargets to where your bad shots
are still on the green and a lotof times they'll turn into the
flag more often than not.
Okay, so I feel like that'ssomething that the high level
champ fighters do for the mostpart.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
But you also have the skill to be able to do that too
, right, yeah, and I thinkthat's a key point.
So you said, like a good A-playplayer will take a double.
How many doubles have you takenthis year in a tournament?

Speaker 6 (17:55):
I took a lot of trip out on the first day.
I found a couple of palmettotrees that were a yard off the
fairway that I did not thinkcould stay in there, trees that
were a yard off the fairway thatI did not think could stay in
there.
But I mean I probably made ingolf week this year.
I probably made five doubles, probably yeah Right around there
, okay.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
So you only five five , five, doubles, okay, out of
you know however many rounds.
You know one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight out of
nine rounds.
That crazy rounds.
You know one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight out of
nine rounds.
That Crazy it is.
But but, but again, it goesback to something that you said,

(18:32):
lance, you know, you know, youknow where you want to hit it
and you know how to hit it thatfar.
You know, like, like you said,if, if you don't want to hit it
to a nine, nine, I don't knowcause you don't like your nine,
iron, you don't hit it to thatdistance, and then they have to
worry about it.
Maybe A-flat players can do it,Maybe some B-flat players can do

(18:52):
it, but C and D-flat playersthey're just swinging away.
Let's just say they've hittheir seven iron 180 yards once
and then you think they hittheir seven iron 180 yards, when
they probably hit their seveniron maybe 150, 160 yards, 100%,
you know, and, and so they're.
They're taking that outlier asas a standard, and you're,
you're, I mean, you've hit somany, you, you and you know how

(19:15):
to hit that distance.
And then it comes back down toto making that score, making
that handicap Right, and so, asa, for example, you know how you
get to your minus three isdifferent than how Jeff Wong
gets to his.

Speaker 6 (19:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:31):
Right yeah, and it's no different than an A-flight
player who's a five.
You know how they get to theirfive is how somebody else gets
to their five, and so it'sknowing your game and sticking
to that and playing to what yourstrengths are, as opposed to
worrying what everybody else isdoing.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
For sure, lance, let me ask you this real quick what
advice would you give somebodythat's not a champ flight player
Because I think I mean as muchas you all will take advice you
guys have your own set game butsomebody in a lower flight, what
advice would you give them ifthey're struggling bad and and

(20:09):
they know they're a betterplayer than what they're playing
?

Speaker 6 (20:14):
I would say majority of the time, it's accepting that
bogey's not that bad in thegrand scheme of things.
Uh like we'll talk about it.
We have a bunch of big friendgroup that plays all different
flights and we'll talk about how, like B flight, c flight, d
flight, three-shot lead can goaway in one hole.

(20:36):
I mean it can in any flight.
I did it last year in an event.
It was great, made a greateight from the middle of the
fairway.
It was beautiful.
But it's just kind ofunderstanding sometimes if you
don't have the shot to hit onthe green or to hit it in the
spot that you think is going tomake it.
Like you know, the hero shotsaren't always the player.
So if you're in a spot and yousee the pins back right and you

(20:57):
have a weird line, you don'tthink you can take it on.
But you're going to try for noreason.
I feel like that alone is goingto cost you probably two, three
shots around just from not justlike almost accepting that like
making a five is going to befine, like I mean, the tour guys
talk about all the time thatbogeys don't kill you double too

(21:17):
.
So for champ flight it's morelike double avoidance, but
really in the grand scheme wouldbe bogey avoidance.
But anything in the higherflights I mean double or triple
getting away from those is goingto save you a lot of strips and
help you move up quick.
It's going to lower thehandicap a lot.
Cool, because everybody has theability to hit a great shot.

(21:39):
You know, everybody can hit agood shot, one up there or
whatever.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
But the biggest thing that separates the champ flight
from the a and the b is thatthe bat isn't, you know, retee
for the most part right and that, that's, that's, that's huge
you know the, the penaltystrokes, the retees, the, you
know, whatever it is, you knowit's one thing I would almost

(22:05):
say to to miss, hit, like andmiss a green and take, take a
stroke there.
You know, bogey in there becauseyou miss the green and then get
it close as opposed to.
You know you're giving a strokeaway by hitting it into a
penalty area.
Yeah, you're dropping two, hitting three, now all of a
sudden, and, and now you're froma, from a mental and a mindset
perspective.
You know you're, I, two andthree, now all of a sudden, and

(22:25):
now you're from a, from a mentaland a mindset perspective.
You know you're, I mean atleast, at least me I'm, I've
lost the hole because I'm pissedoff because I gave a stroke
away and hopefully, hopefully,I'll make bogey, but more than
like, like you said, I'm goingto make double because I messed
up and then my mind isn't rightand so it's, it's, it compounds
itself.

Speaker 6 (22:44):
Yeah, I messed up, and then my mind isn't right,
and so it compounds itself yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
Interesting.
For sure you got that, chrisYep.
Get your mind right, get yourmind right.
I'm trying, I'm trying.
That's why I asked.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
So, Lance, what other big tournaments you got this
year?

Speaker 6 (23:01):
So not this weekend but the next next weekend.
Uh, second to last week of july, we had the city amateur
championship, which has beencircled for a while, and then I
have the state match play theweek after.
So I got those two and then I'mgoing to play the north central
events.
We're playing university offlorida skyview.
Uh, we have the season endersat Juliet Falls, which anybody

(23:25):
listening, juliet Falls is oneof the nicest courses in the
Central Florida area, sodefinitely wouldn't miss that
one.
And then, other than that, nationals is circled on the
schedule.
I want to finally get myself ina better position than losing
in a playoff, so we're going totry to keep it together for
three days.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
That's the key Lays.
I believe in you playoff, sowe're going to try to keep it
together for three days.
That's the key Lays.
I believe in you, bud.
Let's talk about the City Am.
Yes, we talked about that alittle bit last year and that's
an important tournament for you.

Speaker 6 (23:57):
Why is that so?
For that it has World AmateurGolf Rankings points so you can
get points for just playing init if you're already on the
system.
But for that, if you win that, usually you get exempt until
bigger events.
Like if you win a citychampionship for the most part
if it's a three-day one you'llget into the Gasparilla, which
is the second biggest mid-endevent in the world.

(24:19):
That's in Tampa, florida.
That is an awesome event Iplayed for the first time this
year.
I've never played in front ofso many people we there was
10,000 fans out there the lastday, wow.
So just playing good in the bigevents with ranking points is
big, because then I mean, at onepoint I got to right around a
thousand in the world rankingthis year.
Then we had a rough March.

(24:40):
But it's, the better you play, the better you can move up there
there and then it helps outwith getting into big events and
then getting exemptions andstuff like that as well.
How'd you do in the castarilla?
I finished t31 out of 156.
I was in contention going toback nine and made a double.

(25:00):
That wasn't on golf week, but Imade a handful of those that
weren't on golf week but to methose don't exist at all.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
You know, we just worry about you know well, yeah,
it was a great event.

Speaker 6 (25:13):
The course was amazing.
I've that's probably still thehardest golf course I ever
played.
So it was a really fun eventand looking forward to playing
again next year.
So that's definitely probablymy biggest event every year.
But nationals is one of thosethat I it's circled every year.
I try to sneak the course, tryto like get all the courses out

(25:33):
of dennis's brain beforehand.
I want to know what's going on,which, as you know, takes takes
a lot of course it does it doesyou know?

Speaker 1 (25:43):
I don't know if everybody knows what's going on.
I'm not give up too much, but Icovered a tournament for Dennis
this weekend, this past weekend, and when Dennis texts or sends
emails, you got to deciphersome things.
Man.
Oh yeah, and I'm sitting at thescoring table with Susan.

(26:05):
I'm thinking we've got to makea decision.
I don't know what this meansright now.
I'm trying to figure it out.
I said Susan, you text back andforth with him all the time.
What does this mean?
She looks at me.
I don't know.
But, yeah, dennis will playthings close to the vest, and
then you've got to figure somestuff out, but God bless him.
I mean, the courses are out now, though.

Speaker 6 (26:28):
Yes, I think champ is Hampton Hall Country Club at
Hilton Head, and I forgot thethird one.
It might be Oyster Reef, Ithink.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
I'll tell you what.
Let me pull it up up.
But if you're at Hampton Halland Country Club, I'm expecting
low scores, like you had acouple years ago.

Speaker 6 (26:52):
Yeah, I like Hampton Hall.
It's fun.
That's one of my favoritecourses we played.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
I love Hampton Hall.
Here we go again, chris.
I love all the courses, butseriously, hampton Hall, country
Club and Golden Bear and Jonesare some of my favorites there.
I love them.
I mean I say they're all myfavorites, but he can't make a
decision.

Speaker 6 (27:15):
That's a great finishing stretch at Jones.
That's so good with that, because the wing can pick up and
the holes that you would thinkyou could score on can be like
you're trying to survive andmake par.
It's just a really goodfinishing stretch for sure.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
Yeah, I can't find that list off the top of my head
.
If you guys are at those twocourses, Hampton Hall and
Country Club, it's going to be alow score.
Looking forward to that.

Speaker 6 (27:43):
Hoping, so Hopefully the game rounds into form there.
Hopefully I didn't play toogood now and then struggle a
little bit coming in.
We'll see.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
You know your game better than anybody else, but
this is right about the sametime last year that you shot 62.
Right, let me pull it up.

Speaker 6 (28:03):
Something like that.
Right, let me pull it upsomething like that.
I think I shot 65, 67, 65 orsomething like that one 65.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
He's got you highlighted on here a bunch of
times.
But so June 23rd of 24 you shot65 okay.

Speaker 6 (28:29):
Yeah, it was a two to three cove yeah, um.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
So I mean it's three weeks apart.

Speaker 6 (28:35):
I mean I think you're in a good spot maybe I figured
I want to play tournaments righttime that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
Alright, bud.
Well, I'm hoping I see youbefore before nationals.
That you know.
If you get any more low scoreslike this, you know, let me know
we'll get you back on.
But I love what you're doingman, it's pretty awesome.

Speaker 6 (28:58):
Thank you Appreciate you guys having me on, take care
of yourself.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
You too.
Talk soon.
Let's take a break from theshow to hear about Strixon's ZX
Mark II drivers.

Speaker 9 (29:08):
ZX Mark II drivers are for major players, major
winners, major power.
All new ZX Mark II drivers onlyfrom Strixon.
New ZX Mark II drivers.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
Only from Strixon Tim .
You know it's always great tohear players shoot real low.
I'm telling you, when I get toplay with HB or Ty Taylor, some
of my champ flight guys and justwatch them play, sometimes I
forget that I'm playing in atournament, because it's just so
majestic is the word that cameto mind.
You know, 63 is not a thing tosneeze over.
Anything that starts with a sixis a thing to sneeze over.

(29:47):
But it's just awesome.
And you know, if these guyskeep playing the way they are
and they keep getting better andmomentum keeps building,
nationals is going to be ashootout for them.

Speaker 1 (29:57):
I know, Like we said, if they're playing those two
courses Hampton Hall and CountryClub and whatever the third one
is, there's going to be somelow scores.
That's going to be a good time.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
Yeah, I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if there
was a three-, four-playerplayoff.
I would not be shocked.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
I'm good with that.
It gives us a couple extraminutes to do what we do.

Speaker 5 (30:20):
Right right.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
But you know, but I love Lance.
I mean he's such a good guy, sodown to earth, so willing and
open to talk with us and give uswhat really happened to him.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
Right.
But I think this is cool withour tours.
These Champ Flight guys aren'tabove themselves.
They don't think that they'rethe best ever like, yeah, shout
out 63.
Oh what you want to talk withme?
Yeah, let's talk about it.
I don't care like it's, it'sjust cool to be.
You know, we don't have tofight them to to come and just

(30:54):
hang out with us yeah, I meanbecause I mean you text him can
do it.

Speaker 1 (30:59):
He's 10 minutes later .
Yeah man, we're good.
Yeah, let's go.
So I love that.
And we'll talk a little bit inthe closing about some of the
scores low scores historicallyin this year, because I brought
a little bit of it up in theinterview with Lance.
But if we get to a little bitmore detail with some of these

(31:20):
scores, it's incredible.
I mean, when you actually lookat some of the scores and the
indexes and how these things arefalling out and a lot of times
I mean I didn't know this, I'msure you didn't know, until you
actually see some of the datahere, it's mind-boggling.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
Right right, We'll get into it later, but it is
pretty cool to see all this datait is.
It is pretty cool to see allthis data.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
It is, and I can't wait until the next episode to
talk to the other 63.
That happened this past weekend, so we'll catch up with him in
a couple weeks.
But went out to Blacksburg,Virginia Tech Regional, and let
me tell you something and I knowpeople are probably tired of

(32:03):
hearing me say this just likeyou know my favorite courses, If
you didn't go, you missed out.
You missed out.
You put this on your, on yourbucket list.
It's a, it's a beautiful place,it's a phenomenal course.
Um, obviously, you know, Lyleruns a good tournament and and
it was a great time, Great time.
Um, and so you know, interviewedwinners and we're gonna gonna

(32:28):
hear those uh interviews here injust a second, but we were
gonna do it live, but but youwere in hawaii so we couldn't do
that.
You know you're busy surfing orwhatever was it you do in
Hawaii, so you missed it.
You better put that on yourlist.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
I will, because, remember my crew that I travel
with.
They're not doing anything inthe early part of the year
because it's too cold, so I'llhave to put that one on there.
I'll pencil it in.
Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
I just can't do it, man.
You guys, let's go ahead andhear some of these stories and
we'll catch you back up in theclosing.
Let's do it.
Welcome back to the Dye Courseat Virginia Tech for the 2025
Blacksburg Regional and we'rehere with a Champlight winner,
matt Green from the CincinnatiTour.

(33:23):
Matt, you had two really, really good days.

Speaker 8 (33:26):
Yep 70-70.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
There were only three rounds under par.
You had two of them Today.
You had a really good stretchthose 12-13, excuse me, 11-12
and 13.
Why don't you walk us throughthat stretch?

Speaker 4 (33:41):
I mean 11, I birdied it yesterday so I had good vibes
.
Big drive, wedge in 12 inchesbirdie.
Big drive on the par 5, 2.11 tothe pin, 6 iron to 10 feet.
Oh my goodness, rolled it in 10feet on the next birdie, 8 feet
on the next slipped out andbirdie.
I'll definitely get on a here.

Speaker 1 (34:06):
I was and birdie, and I'll definitely get on it on a
here I was just, I was justwanting as many as I proved.
Well that's.
I mean it's.
It's amazing that you could dothat, especially on this course
again, when there's only threerounds on the par and you know,
on that freehold stretch youwere, you were four under um you
want, you had even even par onthe front.
You know, two under on on theback.
I mean you had a little hiccupon 15 um with double, but
outside of that you, you prettyhad had a pretty good, uh, clean
card you know, one little poorchip on the front nine and then

(34:31):
like a calculated miss on 15.

Speaker 4 (34:34):
That was the last difficult shot I could see left
that could cause me some troubleand then just unfortunately
lost my ball.
But um other than that it was.
It was good for two days.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
It was pretty, pretty stress-free well, kind of like
we talked about yesterday.
You just said you had acalculated miss, uh, and that
again, that's just so importantfor I think you know for the
high handicaps to understand.
About this we talked aboutyesterday but, um, you know, you
went, you went going away by,you know, I think, five strokes,
nine, nine, nine starts.
Closest was Mike Hartzell, outof the Tidewater Tour, for a

(35:05):
two-day total of 149, so you wonby nine.

Speaker 4 (35:08):
So what's next for you, I'm gonna go play a
regional up in Michigan.
Okay, oh, american News Playedit last year great golf course.
Yeah, it's a lot playing theseregionals.
It's fun.
You meet people from all overthe states.
Yeah, play some wicked goldcourses.
I thought it was fun.
You just get caught up.
There's gold courses.
You get lost in in the viewsall the way around.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
Yeah, so I was up at American News last year and if
you haven't been to AmericanNews, you need to go.
Have you been to the FrenchLick one?

Speaker 4 (35:32):
Yes, swallowed them too.
They were all over.
You just go to the real estateand it's hard to like.
I was having some mess.

Speaker 1 (35:39):
Well, Matt.
Thanks so much for spendingsome time with us.
Congratulations on the win.
Take care and drive safe.
Thank you.
All right, we're back with theA-flight champion, Zane Sanford,
and we just talked to MattGreen, the champ flight winner.
He went 70-70.
I said there was three underpar rounds on the tournament and

(36:00):
Zane Sanford, the A-flightchampion, had the third one.
I'm just going to say you hadthe round of the day, Even
though Matt shot 70,.
I think you had the round ofthe day because we talked
yesterday when you left.
All you had to do, you had toplay your game and you turned
around and did that.
You went 82-71, and you got athree-stroke win.
So congratulations.

Speaker 10 (36:16):
Thank you very much.
Yeah, I just saw you Literallylast.
I just, literally last night, Ipulled out a putting match to
work on my five footers, becauseyesterday that 82 was there was
missing parts about this faroff.
Okay, so then last night wewere having a party.
I need to pause that a bit andlet me go work on my putting.
And I did that today and I wasable to get revenge on hole 18,

(36:40):
17.
Unfortunately, yesterday wasdoubled for putting two balls in
the water and the 17 par andthe 18 became a birdie about
maybe six inches off the holeand I had the birdie there to
keep the drilling going and Ijust had to push more and just
make the punch.
And I did not fall out of thedrive in a day and just play my

(37:02):
game, make the punch and did notfall out driving today and just
play my game.
I was, yeah, and I'm just and Ireally want this so bad to
create another great memory uphere and I just can't wait to go
back home and talk to all of myHokie buddies, knowing that
that I got this and, and onemore important thing, I'm
getting ready to speak in frontof Congress on September 7th.
They want to know how I metMandrill.
I get to tell them I did oneoriginal tournament called the

(37:25):
Peak Dive at Virginia Tuck andone of my bosses I think he's
the top management he went toVirginia Tuck and I can't wait
to meet him in DC and tell him Ishould go away here.
What I've done.

Speaker 1 (37:39):
Dude, that's awesome, thank you.
That makes me so happy for youhear what I've done.

Speaker 4 (37:42):
Dude that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (37:42):
That makes me so happy for you.
Yeah, but let's break yourround down just a little bit.
I mean you had a relativelyclean card today.
I mean you bogeyed a hole onthe front, but you still
finished one under Because youwent birdie, birdie, eight, nine
, eight, birdie, nine, birdie.
So walk us through eight andnine for me real quick.

Speaker 10 (37:58):
So eight and nine.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
Yeah, it's a par four , nine's, a par five, back back.

Speaker 10 (38:06):
Well, I just had.
First, the eight was just ahybrid, I just needed to get it
down anywhere in the fairway andas long as I do the Ben Hogan
elbow so you can keep the rearinside it was just going to go
on the grain and it actually hitthe top of the hill.
And then I actually hit theheel of the hill, the hill, and
then I actually hit the heel ofmy wedge.
I thought it shrank a littlebit and it went on top of the

(38:27):
hill and it rolled into anothersix inches and I was able to tap
that in and that was good luck.
And then the next hole it wasuh, I just had to same same
thing hybrid down in the fairwayand, trusted my gut, went in
the face.
Just just do, just, yourlitrovino, your body is a tree

(38:47):
trunk, you can turn around.
And I was able to keep doingthat and that was how I made my
body.
I told myself your body is atree trunk caught by litrovino.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
And I was able to stay consistently all that that
that that's good, that you havethose triggers to keep you
mentally focused throughout theround, especially when things
get a little wonky althoughthings didn't get wonky for you
today.
I mean, again, real consistent.
You go off to the back, you hadtwo bogeys and all set by two
birdies.
So you put 10 to 18 at even parfor that, 171.

(39:23):
And again, when you look at thecourse and all the 120 players,
there's 240 rounds, only threerounds under par and you were
one of them.
And after shooting 82 and howupset you were yesterday, I tell
you what you should be reallyproud of yourself.

Speaker 10 (39:39):
Thank you, I really am.
It's been a big, big struggle, big struggle with me.
I just had to work on a lot ofthings.
It was literally just theputting and putting.
I just had to change it up alittle bit, just believe in
yourself and have faith inyourself and know everything is
going to be okay.
And I actually did that and Ihave great people that
encouraged me to do what you doand I was able to do that.

Speaker 1 (40:02):
And before you had come in, there was a bunch of
guys in here who saw the scoresand they said good for you, good
for Zane, and it's one thing Ilove the encouragement and
everything else and to seepeople with you, not even being
around, saying good for you, congratulations, he did a great

(40:22):
job today.
You need to know that.
So, congratulations, marsh, thank you very much around
saying good for you, congratulations, he did a great
job today.
You need to know that.
So congratulations, march, thank you very much.
Good luck the rest of the way.
We'll talk to you soon.
Thank you all right we're backwith with the b-flat champion,
joe benson from the tidewatertour shot 76 84 for a two-stroke
win congratulations on the wintoday.

Speaker 8 (40:37):
Appreciate it, man.

Speaker 1 (40:37):
Thank you so you know , walk us through today how it
went.
You know you led after roundone.
All right.

Speaker 8 (40:45):
Walk us through the round today.
Today's round a little bitdifferent than yesterday, you
know.
It was a lot wetter.
They got some rain last night, evidently, and made the course a
lot more difficult today.
Just made sure I hit four outof every tee, made sure I kept
the ball in front of me and wemade it happen, man.

Speaker 1 (41:04):
So you know again, leading after day one, you still
won by two strokes.
What was your mindset actuallygoing through?
You know when you went to bedlast night and what you were
going to do today, because veryrarely does somebody win have
low ground on day one, come backon day two to keep the win, and

(41:25):
three flights did that today.

Speaker 8 (41:30):
How about that?
That's very unusual, veryunusual.
Yeah Well, for me, I try not tothink about it, because if I do
like you said, you know I'llfall to pieces.
I don't even check theleaderboard throughout the round
, I just play golf and at theend of it it is what it is Right
.
So I try not to worry about it.
I slept pretty well last night, came out here today, and so I'm
just going to play the samegame I played yesterday and it

(41:50):
worked out.
That's awesome.
Did you win any skin money inthat?
None, I didn't even have abirdie in there.

Speaker 1 (41:56):
But you walk away with this national championship
ticket from Chisard and you'reready to go.

Speaker 8 (42:04):
What's next for you?
I think it'll be KDMT, I thinkit's Dogwood for Richmond Tour.
Awesome, that guy was showing alittle bit of his life.
That was your buddy today, sotry to get back to it.
Awesome.
Hope you guys are ready to winEveryone.
See you soon.
Appreciate it, take care.
All right, we're back at thedie course.

Speaker 1 (42:21):
You've got the sea flight champion Kenny Price from
the Tidewater Tour.
Kenny, you went wire to wirethis weekend.

Speaker 8 (42:27):
Feel pretty good.

Speaker 7 (42:28):
I do.
I do.
It was a grind out there.
Just wanted to make sure thatyou didn't make any stupid
mistakes and you know, holdsteady and let everything fall
as it may.

Speaker 1 (42:39):
So, you shot 83 yesterday and, like I said, got
a tie for first with with titussimmons from from dc tour and
you guys were paired togethertoday.
How did that pairing go?

Speaker 7 (42:49):
and kind of walking through the round a little bit
um it started out obviously, um,you know you're a little
nervous, so you know the littleslow start.
But then, once everybodysettled in, I think we got into
a groove.
Um, at that point, um, you know, you just start focusing on,
you know, the shot at hand and,uh, not looking ahead, I'm not

(43:10):
thinking too much about whereeverybody's at on the
leaderboard and, um, you know, believing that as long as you
put some pars up there in ourflight, that, um, you're gonna
have a good chance to hang inthere.
And, um, you know, once I saw Ihad a lead and at that point it
was just a matter of just uh,executing shots and you know not
getting ahead of yourself yeah,I mean you're pretty consistent

(43:31):
over both days.

Speaker 1 (43:32):
I mean you had, you know, two double bogeys today,
but you also had a birdie on uhhole number three.
What was?

Speaker 7 (43:38):
for that hole.
So that hole was actually, um,the wind had picked up today, so
the wind was in our face andit's a long par five for us,
it's over 500 yards.
So, um, decent tee shot.
But it did get off the fairway.
Um, what happened?
Basically, my uh, my secondshot I was about 165 out.
I took an eight iron and I hitit within about four feet and I

(44:01):
was able to execute the putt, toget the birdie, and it was a
crucial point in my roundbecause it kind of settled me
down a little bit and I got backon track.
From that point on it was justa matter of, you know, executing
the rest of the shot.
So, yeah, it was crucial, especially with that wind, and I
had a feeling that it was goingto hold up, because my flight
anyways, because it's a longhaul, it is a long haul, so I

(44:26):
felt good about that.
So what did you think of thecourse?
Love it, love it.
The scenery.
I mean, you know we have trainsgoing by.
You know I couldn't ask foranything better With the rain
stuff.
I think the course drainedgreat as much as it could.
It took a lot of rain on, sogreat as much as it could.
It took a lot of rain on, sotoday, with the wind picking up,

(44:46):
it changed it a little bit, gave it a little bit of
different of a look.
Um, but beautiful, beautifulcourse it is absolutely well,
congratulations on your wintoday.

Speaker 1 (44:53):
Again, five-stroke win over uh josh uh mulaton from
from charlotte kenny, bryce,2025 blacksburg regional
champion congratulations.

Speaker 8 (45:01):
Thank you, sir.
Appreciate it, man.
All right, all right, here wego.
We're back here with the dflight champion, kenny Bryce,
2025 Blacksburg RegionalChampion Congratulations.
Thank you, sir.
Appreciate it, man.

Speaker 1 (45:05):
All right, all right, here we go we're back here with
the D-Flight Champion, hal Lair, from the Tidewater Tour.
Hal, congratulations on the wintoday.
Thank you, you had a tough onestarting out?

Speaker 5 (45:15):
I did.
Yeah, we started out on 18 andI pulled my ball a little bit
left and we thought it was inthe trap, hit a perfect shot out
of the trap and then realizedit wasn't my ball.
So I didn't take a two-strokepenalty and go play my regular
ball and started out with atriple.
So I had a lot of work to dofrom there.

Speaker 1 (45:33):
So you started out with a triple and you already
had two strokes back to beginwith, so you clawed your way
back for a two-stroke win overEd Sitico from Tidewater Tour.
So talk about the battle backand forth between you and Ed all
day today.

Speaker 5 (45:50):
It was a bit of a battle.
I didn't hit very many fairwaysall day, so it was quite a
battle for me just to keep it inplay and keep up with him and
he started struggling a littlebit.
And let me back in and WayneEnzer kept us in the mix, so it
was a good mix out there.
Every day we had a really goodfoursome.
So how was?

Speaker 1 (46:09):
the course playing different today than it was
yesterday.

Speaker 5 (46:12):
Maybe a little bit more sluggish because there's a
little bit more water on it in acouple of spots, but by and
large it played about the sameto me.
Okay, I got very fortunate onnumber nine, had a really,
really hard drive down there, but it hit the car path All
right, and we looked for it forabout two and a half minutes and
then we finally saw it.
I'd hit about a 300-yard drive.

(46:33):
Was it like a fire path?
There you go, yeah, yeah, shotof the day.
That's awesome.
What do you?

Speaker 1 (46:40):
think of the course.

Speaker 5 (46:42):
I like it.
Yeah, it's pretty much.
If you can hit the fairway, youcan score pretty well on race.
Yeah, not a whole lot oftrouble and it's just what's in
front of you.
Just play it.
Yeah, that's all I like it.
So what's next for you?
Kiln Creek, that'll be the nextone up for me.
Awesome, that's home course, soI'm looking to do well there
too.
Very good.

Speaker 1 (47:02):
Well, congratulations on the win, Congratulations on
punching you take the nationalchampionship and good luck the
rest of the year.
All right, thank you very much.

Speaker 9 (47:12):
Let's take a break from the show to hear about
Strixon's ZX Mark II irons.
A great iron set needs morethan good looks.
It's got to be fast and got tobe pure, but good looks never
hurt either.
The all-new ZX Mark II ironsfrom Strixon.

Speaker 1 (47:28):
You know, chris, there really isn't anything like
it, like talking to winnersafter a regional tournament.
You know, national championshipis a completely separate deal,
but when you talk to winnersfrom a regional tournament it
really is special, especiallywhen you're competing against

(47:52):
players from all over thecountry at a great course.
Good competition, great eventright on down the line.
How happy these guys are towalk away champion at a regional
, especially this course atVirginia Tech.

(48:16):
I'm telling you it's beautifulman, absolutely beautiful, like
you said, any regional it's.

Speaker 2 (48:27):
It's a milestone win because you are playing people
that are not from your your tour, that aren't visiting you know
you're paying people from reallyaround the the country, um, and
it's a good indicator on howyou can do at nationals.
You know, mine is an extra dayof playing, but if you play a
practice round you your body'sprobably conditioned to it.

(48:48):
Um, if I want a regional, Ithink I would go in there with a
chip on my shoulder, um,because you and 15 other you
know 14, 15 other regionalwinners are probably there.
So you kind of have that littleedge, but I can imagine how

(49:11):
much weight is off yourshoulders winning a big
tournament like that.
I mean, I've been close.
I think I have a second place,a fourth place, so I've been
there, but to be able toactually pull it off is just a
huge thing.
I don't want anyone to thinkthat it's just a normal
tournament, because it's waydifferent than your local
tourist two-day event.

Speaker 1 (49:32):
Yeah, it is, and again, Lyle does such a good job
running events.
Anyway, you got to go.

Speaker 2 (49:40):
Right, I mean all the directors that have regionals I
think run around amazing.
The ones we've been to havehave been top notch phenomenal,
phenomenal, yeah, it's, uh, it'sreally.

Speaker 1 (49:54):
And so I, I think a lot of times, when we say that
people say, oh, they're justsaying that there they go again.
Right, the same thing again,again.
But let's put this way, Iwouldn't do if it wasn't like I
wouldn't do.

Speaker 2 (50:06):
I, I would just wouldn't say anything well, and
you know, I challenge, Ichallenge anybody to go to a
regional that we've talked about, that we've been to, and tell
us we're wrong tell us we'rewrong, right and I, I guarantee
you no one will be able to.

Speaker 1 (50:20):
You can't do it you know, even when we were at
American Dunes last year andpouring down rain on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (50:27):
Right, these guys were walking in soggy, looked
like a dog, that was leftoutside just all soaking, wet,
dripping, and I mean, yeah, theywere probably upset because
they had to deal with the rain, but it's part of the game, you
know it happens.
I mean, yeah, they wereprobably upset because they had
to deal with the rain, but it'spart of the game, you know it
happens.
Luckily, it was just one flightthat it happened to, so they

(50:49):
were all out there and had todeal with it.
But you come back Sunday andyou play your day two round and
anything can happen.
It's the people you go with too, because usually with these
regionals, if they're peoplefrom out of town, they're
bringing a handful.
They're probably not going justby themselves exactly these

(51:13):
trips are planned ahead of timeso get on out there.

Speaker 1 (51:19):
I'm just telling you.
You know I, bill Prosecki, youknow, know.
The Chicago tour director sentme an email today asking if we
were going to be out at GrandDunes.
Unfortunately, we're not.
You know it's next week and youknow you just come back from

(51:42):
Hawaii.
You got to take a nap.

Speaker 2 (51:44):
Yeah, it's going to be tough, but one day, one year
Tim, we'll get enough sponsors.
We can go to every single oneand we'll make sure they all
spread them out and we'll just,we'll hop into your RV and we'll
just go.

Speaker 1 (51:57):
We'll just drive.
That's how we'll spend thesummer.

Speaker 2 (52:00):
Yeah, we'll just do it Jack and Diane.

Speaker 1 (52:04):
Jen and Diane will say we'll spend the summer.
Yeah, we'll just do it, jackand Diane.

Speaker 2 (52:08):
Jen and Diane will say we'll see you when you get
back in November.
Yeah, because we'll have to endthe trip at Hilton Head and
then call it a day.
Then we'll take a whole monthoff.

Speaker 1 (52:19):
Yeah, exactly, exactly.
Well, you're back, you got kidsstart school, you get a couple
days to yourself and then we'reright back at it for you.
So obviously still a lot goingon.
We got it's only like 45, maybe60 days tops left in the season

(52:42):
.

Speaker 2 (52:42):
It's quick, it's gone by quick.

Speaker 1 (52:45):
So I would suggest, if you haven't signed up for the
rest of your local tour, dothat Sign up for.
I guess, the last two regionals.
Do that quickly.
If there's space Right, theremay not be space anymore, but

(53:08):
you know?
And then let's buckle down andget your handicaps right, get
them down and let's get into thenational championship.
That's what I say, yeah.

Speaker 2 (53:19):
No, it's gone by quicker this year than I think
last year.
I mean, maybe for me it'sbecause I had big trips planned,
but it's been awesome to see,you know, some great golf played
all year so far.
And man, I just I can't wait tosee that leaderboard come

(53:39):
national championship, becauseif the guys that we've talked to
all show up it's going to be adogfight.

Speaker 1 (53:46):
Well, we know Lance will be there.
I mean, if Lance would go, he'dcamp out there, if that's what
it meant.

Speaker 2 (53:54):
Right.

Speaker 1 (53:55):
He's hungry.
Yeah, I can't wait to the nextepisode.
You know, talk to the other guywho shot.
I think he shot 63-68.

Speaker 2 (54:08):
I shoot that in PGA 2k 25 on my PlayStation,
probably on easy mode after what500 rounds that you know to
practice to get that?

Speaker 1 (54:21):
how many mulligans?

Speaker 2 (54:23):
yeah it's.
It's insane what to see whatthese guys score that you sent
me.
I mean, I think, the 80s, andabove those bad rounds that they
have stand out more than allthese good rounds.

Speaker 1 (54:40):
Well, to a certain extent, yeah, and that's what
makes it really so interesting,right?
I mean so like Lance had twobad rounds almost back-to-back,

(55:00):
so he shot an 80.
Wait a second, now this is okay.
So here we go.
This is what it was.
Let me just double check, makesure that I have my dates right
here.
Yeah, so he shot an 80 atAtlantic Dunes National
Championship which you know hementioned that that first day at

(55:21):
Atlantic Dunes the winds wereblowing Right, and then he shot
70 at Golden Bear the next dayand then turned around with a 79
at Langtons again.
So he had two of his highestrounds almost back-to-back in
the national championship on avery, very difficult course.

(55:42):
What are you going to do?
I mean that happens.
But then he shot an 80 at Frippand he kind of walked me
through that.
I just thought it was bad luckthere.
But he's got three 80s and a 79out of what's it?

(56:05):
67 rounds.
Mm-hmm of what's it?
67 rounds, mm-hmm, you know.
And the rest are, you know, 75and below.
So, and again, joe Jaspers.
So Joe's got history all theway back to 2009.

(56:28):
So, you know, he's got a couplemore higher rounds, but you're
also talking a decade more, butyou're still only talking 81s,
82 the crazy thing about JoeJaspers is I'm looking here
right and obviously yourhandicap is your best 8 scores
pass.

Speaker 2 (56:47):
He's using only one score from this year and
obviously your handicap is yourbest eight scores pass.
He's using only one score fromthis year in his eight lowest
scores.
It's insane, it's wild, I mean,and they're so tight 73, 72, 73
.
Height 73, 72, 73.

(57:08):
And he can go out there andjust throw up a low 70, 69, and
call it an average day, yeah.

Speaker 1 (57:26):
Unbelievable.
So well, jeff Wallen.
So again, look at Jeff's scores.
I think his highest is a 77.
That was his first round.
He's got a couple 77s and 76.
Everything else low 70s, low tomid 70s.

(57:50):
You know and we talked a littlebit about this with Lance you
know Jeff Wong is a good player, but how Jeff plays is very
different than how Lance plays.
And still, I mean watching twoof them go head-to-head or
watching the three of them, joeand Wong and Lance, or any of

(58:12):
these guys that we have on thislist here, corbin or HB or Chuck
Spears, or pick a good jamflight player, I don't care who
it is.
Watching those guys gohead-to-head, it's fun to watch.

Speaker 2 (58:27):
Yeah, I mean, we can even throw Matthew in there.
He can hold his own, his champscan hold their own.

Speaker 1 (58:38):
It's fun man.

Speaker 2 (58:40):
It is fun to watch.

Speaker 1 (58:42):
Dennis sent us the all-time low scores.
We've got three 62s, three 62s.
You know we talked to AndrewBuse a couple years ago.
He shot a 62 at Lowell Kentuckygolf course.
Jeff Allen shot a 62 inNovember of 2016.

(59:06):
And Lance had his 62 August of22 at World Golf Village, king
and Bear.
You know a bunch of 63s now One, two, three, four, five 63s,
because we've got one that's noton there.

Speaker 2 (59:30):
Won that national championship, won that national
championship.

Speaker 1 (59:34):
You know it's just go down this list.
It's unbelievable, it really is.

Speaker 2 (59:45):
Matt Mitchell had a 64 this year from Nashville.
It's unbelievable, it really is.
Matt Mitchell had a 64 thisyear From Nashville.
Unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
One day I'll be on this list.
I hope you are.
I hope you are.

Speaker 2 (01:00:09):
You know, I'm just curious.
Let's see here, let me see ifit'll do it.
Joel Jasper's on there.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5 times HB.
Twice Lance 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6times HB.

(01:00:30):
Twice Lance one, two, three, four, five, six times.
Will Morgan twice Chuck Spearsone, two, three, four times Jeff
.

Speaker 1 (01:00:45):
Wong one, two, three, four, five, six times on that
list.
That's insane.
Yeah, so Chuck Spears tried 66when we were out there at the
regional last year.

Speaker 7 (01:00:54):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (01:00:57):
Wow, good times, man, good times.

Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
I'm in awe of that great golf that's out there.

Speaker 1 (01:01:12):
Well, hold on a second here.
Look at the 66s.

Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
Just close it 66s okay.

Speaker 1 (01:01:23):
Okay, so there's been one, two, three, four 66s shot
at the club at Irish Creek inCharlotte.

Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
So what you're saying is I need to go play there and
maybe I'll get a 66.

Speaker 1 (01:01:37):
Maybe, and so this is funny.
So Jim Maltry shot a 66 on June29th of 2013.
And Joe Jaspers turned aroundand shot a 66 on June 30th 2013.
And Joe Jasper's turnaroundshot 66 on June, 30th, day after
Yep.
So I wonder who won thattournament.

Speaker 2 (01:01:57):
Pull it up, let's find out.
You've opened the can of worms,my friend See that's a 2013,
charlotte, you got it.
No, I was checking a differentstat All right, I'll pull it up,
I'll get it.

Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
Let's see what we got here 2013.

Speaker 2 (01:02:30):
Well, you pull that up.
September 10, 2018.
66.
Two different tours that dayWow, this is interesting Neither
one won Jim Maltry, jim Maltry.
Interesting.

Speaker 1 (01:02:46):
Neither one won Jim Autry.
Jim Autry won by two over Joeand Scott Patnode.
Wow.
So Joe shot 74-66.
Patnode shot 69-71.
And Autry shot 66 72.

(01:03:10):
Wow, what that look at thisyou're ready, okay, so.
So so Dennis shot 88-80 thatday.

Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
You have to put that one out there.
All right, nationalChampionship 2022.
Okay, okay, hampton Hall, october 15th, hb Kim 63.
October 16th, genki and Lance64-65.
And we know that we talkedabout that one.

(01:03:54):
That one went to the wire.
Yeah For a champion.

Speaker 1 (01:03:59):
Yeah, that's good times right there.

Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
Yeah, very good times .
It's good for them.
Very good times.

Speaker 1 (01:04:08):
Good for them.
What we need is we need peopleto give us some money for the
raffle for the clubs.
Don't forget that.
Yes.

Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
We want to get you out there to at least TPC this
year.
We need you out there one.
We almost got you at Firestone.
We need to get you.
Need you out there one.
We we almost got you aFirestone, Um, so we need to get
you out to at least one.
I know I threw that out there, but it was too cold for you.

Speaker 1 (01:04:38):
I had to stay inside.

Speaker 2 (01:04:40):
I know With with the clubhouse they had, I should
have stayed inside too.

Speaker 1 (01:04:48):
Oh boy, all right, my friend, glad you're back,
rested for the final run-up toNationals Yep, or rested to the
run-up to TPC.

Speaker 2 (01:05:03):
Let's do TPC first, because I'm going to win that
one, and then have an easy wayinto Nationals All right bud
Sounds good to me.
Just got to get back on theroutine man Got to get back on
the practice regimen.

Speaker 1 (01:05:17):
Do that Now that the kids are back in school.
We don't have to.

Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
I don't have to worry about it.
I can just go hit the range forfour hours and go pick them up
and make dinner.

Speaker 1 (01:05:27):
There, you go there, you go there you go.
Well, send my best to family, get some rest and, uh, we'll see
you soon do me a favor, don'tsend me any more stew sub
pictures, yeah well, I was.
I was gonna tell you, if I makeit out to tpc, I'd bring you a
stew sub.
But that's a lie.
Um yeah, it's not gonna make it.

(01:05:47):
It would never make it.

Speaker 2 (01:05:47):
It would make it, wouldn't make it out to TPC, I'd
bring you a stew sub.
But that's a lie.
Yeah, it's not going to make it.

Speaker 1 (01:05:49):
It would never make it.
It would make it off the island.

Speaker 2 (01:05:55):
Checking all the stuff and eat it.
See, here we go.
Here's the thing, okay, I think, and you need to pull this.
Either you or JR need to pullthis.
I know JR's listening when weget to pull this.
Either you or JR need to pullthis.
I know JR is listening.
When we get to nationals, weneed to go and have a small
segment at Stu's place on ouriPhone, so we don't have to do

(01:06:17):
the whole setup or anything, butsomething to where people can
understand.
We can do a review, our firstreview on the podcast.
We can do that that wouldn't bethat hard to do, because because
here's the thing, we talk aboutit so much.
I think we need to let ourviewing audience see exactly

(01:06:38):
what we're talking about.
I don't know about stew subsdude, that's.

Speaker 1 (01:06:43):
We could do that.
We don't even need a reason, there you go.

Speaker 2 (01:06:49):
No, we need the reason, so we can go okay.

Speaker 6 (01:06:57):
More than once.

Speaker 2 (01:06:59):
I can't figure out why I'm fat but okay, I can't
wait to see what yourAI-generated thumbnail is going
to be for that one.

Speaker 1 (01:07:13):
It'll probably be one that can't be shown anywhere,
probably.

Speaker 2 (01:07:15):
It'll still be funny.

Speaker 1 (01:07:18):
Maybe what I'll do is I'll put some of those first
AI-generated pictures that weregenerated up Us with no shirts
on.
Oh geez, People would love that.

Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
Oh geez, People would love that.
Oh man, that might get me introuble.
They'll definitely know whatthey generated.

Speaker 1 (01:07:37):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I understand, oh boy.

Speaker 2 (01:07:43):
All right, man, it's always fun.
Man, it's always fun to do thisI just laughed way too hard.

Speaker 10 (01:07:58):
Glad you're back.
We'll talk to you soon.
Fun man, it's always fun to dothis.
I just laughed way too hard.
Glad you're back.
We'll talk to you soon.
Yes, sir, be safe.
Thank you.
