First up is Orlando Tour Director Terry Lawson, who somehow turned a year of double knee replacements into one of the most impressive comeback stories we’ve seen on the Golfweek Amateur Tour. From surgery to the National Championship to battling the yips and a lingering cold, Terry still managed to lead one of the strongest senior turnouts in the country. He talks recovery, mindset, community, and why he’s determined to come back next season as a single-digit handicap golfer. His passion for building connection and creating a “family feel” at every event, reminds us why players love this tour so much.

Then we head to Kansas and catch up with Tour Director David Keene, fresh off his Directors’ Cup win. David shares how consistency, structure, and community engagement helped him drive momentum all season long. the last episode of the 2025season.
Um so if you don't get get yourget your handkerchiefs ready,
because we've got two actuallytwo of my favorite tour
directors tonight.

What's what's been going on?

SPEAKER_01 (01:07):
Nothing much, man.
You know, just recovering fromgetting sick of nationals.
Uh hurt my shoulder at work, sokind of recovering on that and
just getting it ready for thewhite rhetoric cup.
It's uh heating up and it itthere's an aura around this one
that's kind of different, so Ican't wait.

SPEAKER_04 (01:25):
Yeah, I've got I forgot about your little Ryder
Cup thing.

SPEAKER_01 (01:27):
Um it it's gonna be a blast.

SPEAKER_04 (01:34):
Yeah, it it is.
I I know how how excited youguys get get for that.
And it's um I I j I joke withyou, but it but I it it I know
it's a big deal.
It it it it builds a lot ofmomentum.
I mean it kind of wraps up theyear, but it also builds
momentum, you know, going intothe next year and uh some team
camaraderie for for individualtours.
Plus the you know, the thecompetition that you you and

Gabe ha have for each other.
Um, so it's it it's a goodthing.

SPEAKER_01 (02:02):
It's nonstop trash talking that we've been doing.
Um but it's gonna be great and Iwish it was closer than than
what we have to wait.
We still have to wait a littlewhile for it to come.
Um but it's gonna be a blast,and I mean you know, we need to
bring home the victory, becauseif not, it's gonna be kind of
embarrassing.

SPEAKER_04 (02:23):
It's not gonna be embarrassing, just you guys are
gonna be fine.

Oh I mean that's that's in theory, yes.

Did want to let you know, um, Iwent to a very special place um
yesterday.

Um they again they well, theyalways treat us well, but it was

I got to see some of the guysthere, and it um obviously
phenomenal, phenomenal food.

rub it in for now, another year.

But well but that that just just gotta remember,
since I'm only allowed to goonce a month, I mean this is my
one month time, and you know Ifeel like it's been more than
the once this month.
No, it's it's no, this is thisis November now.
Gotta remember, we went back Iwent I went I got to go twice in
October.
So once November and we're good.

SPEAKER_01 (03:32):

Well let's um we we've got two again, I I've
already said this, but we've gottwo two of my favorite tour
directors here.
Um and you know, as as we wrapup the season, both of them are
are uh uh directors' cupwinners, which is you know, it's
that we started this last year,but we like we really do like
bringing them on um and justtalking to them about their

their games and and nationalchampionship.
And we'll get into a coupleother things, but it's it's good
to talk to them and have them,you know, just just talk about
themselves for a little bit, notnecessarily the tour, but
themselves and and things thatthat they've accomplished.

SPEAKER_01 (04:06):
For sure.
I mean it's it's gonna be a hardconversation with me because I
wasn't able to defend mydirector's cup.
And I know we're probably gonnaget the new winner on, but Yeah,
we'll get him on.

SPEAKER_04 (04:20):
I'll get over it.
I I I will do my best to to helpyou out when they when we have
that conversation, but you knowit it'll be what it'll be.
You got your big boy pants onand and and and you'll be fine.

SPEAKER_01 (04:32):

But let's go ahead and and bring in our our first
guest from the Orlando SeniorTour, Sea Flight Directors Cup
champion, Terry Lawson.
Terry, you're a staple in theshow.
I you you may actually be berivaling you know Gabe Garcia
from Arizona for for most uh uhappearances.

I'm vying for that third stage spot.

You know I always have a spot for you.

I'm trying to get in there.
I'm never free, buddy.
You know, I know that's the roadlike crazy, but yeah, whatever.
You know?

SPEAKER_04 (05:14):
You you're on the road now, and and I appreciate
you you know make making thiswork, but yeah you you do so
much for the tour.
Um and and you know you you dotwo tours, you travel all over
the place.
I think every weekend thatthere's an event, you are
playing it.
You don't take a weekend off.

(05:35):
Except for this year, and youhad you had some some some stuff
done.
Why don't you tell everybodywhat what what you had done and
and the the uh the I guess themental anxiety of not playing
what that did to you for for alittle bit.

SPEAKER_02 (05:48):
Yeah, it was murder.
Well, it was murder.
Um, August 1st this year I hadmy left uh no, I'm sorry, and my
right knee replaced.
And then I played in thebeginning of September, and then
no, I think like the 17th and18th or something, we had

(06:08):
tournament and I played inthose, and then the 19th of
September I had my left kneereplaced, and then I played um
in the head of the hilt inOctober, played the uh practice
round on Tuesday or Wednesday,and then played Thursday,
Friday, Saturday, or Saturday,Sunday, whatever it was for the
cough week.
And then I don't I couldn't playafter that, and then and I

(06:31):
waited all the way until seniorsand I played again.
So luckily I had a greatsurgeon.
Luckily, I had a great have aintim you know her.
My wife is she was such a greatnurse, she was strict, she made
me adhere to the the PT and themedicine on the ice and the blah
blah blah and blah blah blah.

(06:52):
But you know, she sped up myrecovery, it was cool, it was
awesome.
And uh now I'm almost 100% onboth legs.

SPEAKER_04 (07:00):
Now, now we won't tell anybody, but uh I I need to
know did did your surgeon knowthat you were playing golf so
quick?

SPEAKER_02 (07:08):
Um no, but my physical therapist actually was
like, you know, we really wereally don't recommend that you
guys get what I don't know won'thurt me.
And my surgeon, you know, he'she's a younger guy, he's
ex-military, so he's kind of youknow right down the middle.
And right when I got back and Igo, well, this is what I've been

(07:29):
doing, and he's like, Yeah,well, that's why your incision
is torn open, your stitches aretorn out, and your leg is
swollen up.
But yeah, hey, you know what?
That's uh gotta make your own,you gotta fight your own fights.

SPEAKER_04 (07:42):
So Doc, I I woke up and money was like this.
I don't I I don't know whathappened.

SPEAKER_02 (07:47):
It was murder, and then I got sick as hell at
Nationals too, so now I'mwalking around with snot running
down my face and dragging arounda left leg that feels like it
got ran over by a tractor.
But you know, that's at least Ihave an excuse for my crappy
scores.

SPEAKER_04 (08:02):
Wow, they they could they they they weren't too
crappy.
I mean you you won thedirector's cup and had to hang
on.

SPEAKER_02 (08:09):
I had to hang on.
I mentally was gone um thesecond day at seniors.
I got the I got the yips aroundthe green.
It didn't matter if I waschipping or putting, I couldn't
do either, and uh my uh mentalmental game went to hell fast on
the second day.
Well, I was in the money until Iswiped at like two putts on the

(08:31):
last green because I was justover the top at that point.

SPEAKER_04 (08:37):
That's forgivable.

SPEAKER_02 (08:39):
It is, but you know, well they say golf is uh 10% um
10% ability and 99% men forsomething something like that.

SPEAKER_04 (08:51):
But you yeah, you gotta have to have some some
mental ability to begin with,though, right?

SPEAKER_02 (08:57):
I was a midget.
I was a midget.
The whole time I was up there, Iknew I had a lot going on with
work, still trying to, you know,work and limp around and sick as
a dog, but man, I'll tell you, Iwasn't traded for nothing.
My here's the bottom line.
I won the Director's Cup.

(09:18):
I was super excited about it.
There was nothing more excitingto me at Nationals than Dennis
calling the Orlando tour upthere for the biggest senior
tour ever in the history of ofuh Orlando.
That was the award that I wasproud of.

SPEAKER_04 (09:36):
Well and and that that's that's that's also saying
something, you know, knowing whoyou who you took over and
replaced and and and the historythat was there.
And yeah.
And I you know, I like I Iopened it up and said you do so
much for the tour, and thatthat's just one example of it.

SPEAKER_02 (09:56):
Oh man, I tell my guys I'll trade a national
championship for a team cupevery time.
I would I'll and that's my goal.
That's my goal every year when Ishow up, whether it's South
Florida and Cough Week, nowOrlando and seniors, that's the
one I want.
That's the one I want because Iwant to see our ugly mug on all

(10:19):
the game cups for the whole nextyear.
That's a big deal.
And then after, you know, werent two, two gigantic houses in
Hilton Head when we're there.

unknown (10:30):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (10:31):
They have a common area in the middle and a big
fire pit and blah blah blah.
So we rented both of them, andwe had players, you know, in
both houses full, and I got tospend some time other than at
the golf course with some of mymembers.
And I find out what amazing menand women that are on my tour.

(10:56):
I mean, I'm so proud to befriends with them, I'm so proud
to call them friends.
I mean, some of theaccomplishments, some of the
mountains that they climb daily,brother.
You know, there's some greatpeople on our tour.
There's some heroes, there'ssome heroes.

(11:17):
And I'm not talking aboutmilitary heroes, first responder
heroes, whatever.
I'm talking about straight upevery day.
Slap your mama in the mouth,heroes.
Unbelievable.
Unbelievable.
I mean, unbelievable.
I'm so blessed to be part ofthis and be friends and call

(11:38):
some of these guys my friends.
Makes me a little emotional.
You know, I'm an emotional guy,but for sure.
Amazing.

SPEAKER_04 (11:46):
And that's what one of the things that National
Championship Week does is it itallows you to be able to spend,
you know, as a tour director, itallows you to be able to spend
some of that time and get toknow the guys a little bit
better, as opposed to, you know,on a regular tournament day,
even two-day, I mean, you you'reyou're so busy doing some so
many other things.
Yeah, you may get to think out alittle bit and and chit-chat,
but you know, at nationalchampionship, you get to

(12:08):
actually spend some time withpeople.

SPEAKER_02 (12:09):
Right.
Unbelievable.
I mean, I'll tell you the storyone day, and next time I see you
guys, I'll tell you the storybecause it's very, very close to
my heart.
But just in general, getting toknow some of these guys, getting
to know some of their quirks,you know, getting to know some
of their hearts.
It's incredible.
And one of the players brought afull golf simulator to the

(12:31):
houses.
We had a full golf simulator setup in the middle of these
houses.
A$10,000 golf simulator thatwe're hitting into it while
we're having a barbecue.

SPEAKER_01 (12:41):
All right.

SPEAKER_02 (12:42):
Unbelievable.
Chris, you better step it up,brother.

SPEAKER_04 (12:45):
You you gotta get busy.

SPEAKER_01 (12:46):
I don't know about you, but I don't think we got an
invitation to that.

SPEAKER_02 (12:49):
Oh, that's a standing invitation.
It's a cookout that we shit,Mark and I spend six, seven
hundred dollars on stuff forevery year.
We just let it go.
We let it go.

SPEAKER_01 (12:59):
It's funny.
We we met I think ours got lostin the pigeon mail.

SPEAKER_02 (13:04):
There you go.
Well, I don't know.
I was sitting there with aheadset on.
I don't know if I told you guysto come there or not, but I have
told people, I know I told Timin the past to come there, but
he's hobnobbing with all youfancy guys tasting whiskey.

SPEAKER_04 (13:19):
Part of the problem is is it's it's not really a
problem.
I I I definitely enjoy w whatwhat I do is you know, we we're
just pulled in so many differentdirections.
Um Right, sure.

SPEAKER_02 (13:28):
And it's every time very many.

SPEAKER_04 (13:30):
And it's you know I wouldn't say it's hard.
It's it it it's hard to to ccommit to doing something when
when you just don't know what'sgonna happen.

SPEAKER_02 (13:39):
Uh it's humble too the CR.
So many people try to includeyou in their events, you know.
We get invited to to Shane's umdinner with his members.
Armin invites us over, you know,for drinks with his with his
members.
So you gotta you guys have to becareful um in the next few years
because um Florida directors arebuilding our own mafia, and

(14:05):
we're gonna we're gonna startshowing up there with some
power.
We're gonna start showing itthere.
Dude, I'm gonna like we're gonnabring it.
Yeah, we're gonna bring it.
We've been talking about it,Armin, um, Brandon, you know,
everybody.
We've been we're building amafia.
We're coming.
You know, Bernie and I and theseniors, we already have a
mafia, but we're coming with agolf week mafia to blow some

people out of the water in thenext couple years.

SPEAKER_04 (14:29):
We you you just meant mentioned Brandon and and
you know he he also won theDirector's Cup and we're gonna
get him one.
Um, but uh the day that we'rerecording this is uh his uh
anniversary.
So let's just let him know.

SPEAKER_02 (14:43):
He's a hell of a guy, man.
He's a hell of a guy.
He's got a heart like a freakingyou know, gigantic.
He's a great guy.

SPEAKER_04 (14:50):
And he cares.
I mean that's you know, that'sthat's the the other piece of
it, right?
I mean he w when you have tourdirectors like that that that
actually care and want want todo want to get better, want to
do more, want to do more, wantto do more, and so really for
for the players, it it shows.
And and you're right, he gothe's actually one of those.

SPEAKER_02 (15:10):
He probably goes in the pocket like I do, you know.
That's just what we do, youknow.
If I was doing this to make aliving, that would uh I'd be
worried about my snap benefitsright now.

See what happens?
So you know.
We're not trying to make aliving off of this.
We're just trying to make somefriends, we're trying to have
some fun.
And and it is.

It's a lot of fun.

We give it all back, we'll builda monster, and that's the way I
look at it.
And uh we're on our way.

We struggle a little bit withthe golf week side, only because
you know, our demographics are alittle older than most states,
so it's tough for us to draw inthe younger guys on the golf
week side.
And uh, we've proven obviouslythe 15 over crowd of Florida,

you know, that are arrivingdaily here in the last few
weeks.
Um They're strong.
Yeah, they're strong.
They're coming in hot too rightnow, but it's cold.
It's really cold here, actually.

SPEAKER_04 (16:13):
How cold is there?
Because I I woke up to 33degrees today.

SPEAKER_02 (16:16):
Yeah, I woke up this morning.
I remember I'm in north centralFlorida working this week, but
it was 36 degrees, and uh I Itried to call out.
I'm not I don't normally gooutside unless it's 50 plus
degrees and 60 really.

SPEAKER_01 (16:29):
So nothing all right.

SPEAKER_02 (16:30):
Yeah, but next uh tomorrow uh we're headed to
South Florida, so we'll warm upby 25 degrees, so we'll be good.
But 35 is I don't even have acoat for 35.
I don't even know what to do for35.

SPEAKER_04 (16:45):
Stay inside.

SPEAKER_02 (16:46):
Crying.
Start crying.
I wake up, I'm crying, I'mbrushing my teeth, I'm crying, I
don't want to go.
You know, just one of themthings.

SPEAKER_04 (16:55):
Does your truck have that automatic start?

SPEAKER_02 (16:58):
It does, but that doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter.
It's you've got to go to thetruck.
So I mean you could die.
You could die.
I swore I saw a snowflur in uh,you know, when I was working in
South Carolina, I told you thatone time last winter when they

had a little snow up there.
I got in my truck and all thatas soon as the first flake
floated down, and everybody'slike, What are you doing?
I'm like, uh seeing this isover.
I was like, Yeah.
Went to Florida.
Exactly.
All right, how quick along bythe first.

SPEAKER_04 (17:37):
Well, Terry, you you you did something that that
Chris did for the first timethat I never got got to to to
see.
But you also got a nationalchampionship out of seniors.

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (17:48):
That was so cool.
So proud of Shep.
He worked so hard this year.
Yeah.
He uh you know, he doesn't havea whole lot of motion, but he
just walked up to me.
He's like, my bad, huh?
Went out there and picked it up,and I was all jumping up and
down and all fired up and uhfirst year, you know, for the
first year of the seniors andpull a national champion out of
it.

(18:08):
I also had uh a first yearplayer, great guy named Sean,
who came on a B flight andturned it on on the second day
and went all the way to fourthplace.
I had a seventh place finisherin B flight.
I mean, my guys That's awesome.
They came to play, man.
They came to play, you know.
If Mark would have been there,he would have competed, you

(18:29):
know, very well.
In his flight, he had to leavebecause his daughter was getting
married on the first day of uhnational.

SPEAKER_04 (18:35):
So well they gotta coordinate the schedule a bit
better.

SPEAKER_02 (18:38):
I told him that.
I think, you know what, youdon't have to go.
You just own the helmet, put iton their phone, you can
whatever.
Teams call, you can watch it,blah, blah, blah.

SPEAKER_04 (18:48):
Yeah, priorities, right?

SPEAKER_02 (18:50):
Yeah, yeah.
Well, he uh he's still happilymarried, so this is all I can
say.
He went home.
Deep downside, we all knowthat's right, right thing is.
That's right, that's right.
Yeah.
We don't have to admit it, but Imean we can you know, we can do
hand signals.

SPEAKER_04 (19:07):
Exactly.
Exactly.
So so what are you lookingforward to for for next for next
year?

SPEAKER_02 (19:14):
I'm on a mission, and I don't know if I can pull
it off.
I've been a C flight player mywhole golf week.
I went to B flight one timeyears ago.
I want to be a single digit.
I've hired actually a PEX PGAgolfer off of the tour as my
coach, and I'm on a mission toget under 10 with my handicap

(19:37):
for next season.
I might take my S whippins, butI'm gonna start in a D-flight
and try to stay there andultimately senior A-flight is my
big goal.
I don't think I'll ever makethat, but you know, I'm getting
older, but breaking me down.
I've already been spent uh twodays, two whole days with him,

(20:00):
and then I'm gonna continuethat.
So Okay.
Little golf camp for me thiswinter.
Try to give some speed, a littledistance, and uh get rid of the
effing yips.
Chipping yips, those reallysuck.
Those really suck.

SPEAKER_01 (20:17):
Yeah, I think you I've had to.

SPEAKER_02 (20:19):
He's got me going on it, though.
I mean, this guy's freaking likeI said, he played on PJ tour.
He's uh amazing coach, and uhI'm gonna invest in it.
My wife gave it to me for abirthday present, and so there
we go.
Is he the one that won the umsenior regional at uh uh Well,

(20:40):
no, no, that isn't no, it isn'tum this guy's named Steve
Lamontane, he's a Florida Gator.
Okay, he played on the PPA tourback in the uh early eighties
for several seasons.
Okay and successfully, and thenhe became uh club pro here at a
real uh prestige club here intown, and he stepped away from

(21:01):
that and went to work uh with afriend of his who's a GM of a of
a very nice um public coursethere in town.
And uh I stumbled on him when wehad turned there last year, and
we have you know, we we have thesmall town mentality here, even
though we're a big big city, youknow, people that have been

(21:23):
around in a long time, we knoweach other, we know each other's
friends, blah, blah, blah.
So we built this really coolrelationship.
And uh He got me on film andhe's like, Well, I feel like we
can do it if you put the workin, you know.

SPEAKER_04 (21:40):
So Well that's that's always the thing, too.
You got you gotta be.

SPEAKER_02 (21:44):
But that'll be the big that'll be the only issue
because well, you know, and plusthe fact that I'm a head case,
you know.
I'll go back to the old swing assoon as I have one bad one at
the new one, and uh I've got aeh, whatever, you know.
Ba blah blah blah blah.
Squirrel, squirrel, squirrel.
Ah, Andrew, that's nice and sotold you I'd do that at

National, I'd do it everywhere.
I'll be playing golf, and nextthing you know, I'm over there.
Look, man, that's a really coolhouse in the house.

Look at that.
Everybody's like, what are youdoing?

And you know, that's the end ofit.

So But if you if it keeps your mind off of thinking
too much.

Nothing keeps my mind off of too much.
That's the problem.
Okay, well, we'll especiallywith a golf club in my hand.
Forget it.

SPEAKER_04 (22:38):
Well, we're gonna see you at Icebreaker.

Ice fine words.
Um I I've been off a lot ofwork, man, than Hagla.
So you might be leaning on me alittle hard.
I mean, I've been off for I wasoff for three whole months.
So that doesn't go down thatwell in my business, so um, they
lean on me pretty hard at mycompany.

(23:09):
I, you know, I I got a prettydecent role, you know, that one
I had in South Carolina, soright.
Oh.
Unfortunately, I guess I'll letkeep an electric bill make that
decision for me this year if Iget to come to icebreaker.
I did get second in that thinglast year in the golf league.
So I still have a hill to climb.

(23:30):
But I might have to resort toplaying left-handed after these
lessons.
I don't know what's coming.

SPEAKER_04 (23:36):
No, no, you're gonna you're gonna be fine.

SPEAKER_02 (23:37):
I hope so.

You're gonna be fine.

That's not yet.
Not yet.
I can tell you that much.
After after eight hours, uhafter eight hours, four hours,
and four hours.
So you know, I feel like yeah.
Hitting it with a broom.
So there you go.

You will definitely get it back.
I think I'm confident that.

SPEAKER_02 (24:00):
I love it.
You know, it doesn't matter if Idon't get it back if I don't get
to go up to the next fight, ifmy handicap doesn't go down.
I mean, I'm a golf freak, butI'm really, really, really want
to be a single digit.
That's my goal.

Well, let's talk about the directors' chap before
we get into anything else.
Um what's that like for youknowing that of all the tour
directors, there's only five,you know, five of them of you,
and and you've got that for forthe year, and now you know you
could have a uh a target on yourback with the other tour
directors.

SPEAKER_03 (29:17):
No, yeah, no, well, I'm all about competition,
especially like I said, we cancompete uh as bogey golfers.
Um, I forgot, I actually didn'teven I forgot there was a
director's cup.
I can't remember when that evenstarted.
Was it just last year or acouple years ago?
I don't even know because I'mnever in it.
I guess that's why I don'treally pay attention to it.
I'm usually, you know, down inthe bottom quarter of the uh

(29:40):
flight, but it was great to uhjust to see after day one having
a great round of 87 and to uh bein the lead with that, and even
be in the lead group in the seaflight, and then day two slipped
within uh 94, so made itinteresting.
And uh there were a couple ofthem that got close, I think.
So it was fun, and it's it wasjust awesome.
It's Good to uh look forward tonext year to to to uh try to

repeat with that.
Maybe have a little some funsmack talk.

Let me ask you the question.
Last year you got a hole in one.
This year you won the director'scup.
So which was a more successfultournament for you?

SPEAKER_03 (30:21):
Um, man, that's a tough one because uh last year
when I left the house, I missedthe last step, going to the
front door about five in themorning and uh fell into a
table, knocked the wind out ofme, it hurt like heck, and um
ended up getting out thenationals.
We played five rounds andchoosed the day two days before.

(30:41):
And then um the last day I wentin and uh was the uh two holes
to go.
I had never had a skin atnationals, first of all.
Um, and in that round, I I wason the hardest part four, 400
and some yards.
I think I've probably told thisstory maybe out here before, I
feel like.
But anyhow, uh got a birdiethere, was up for a skin.
It held up until about four orfive holes to go, and then my

name got erased, and then uh twoholes to go, uh part three,
knocked down a hole in one, andthat got me back up for a$600
skin, and then drove back homeand uh had the knee replacement
that Wednesday, but had to getan X-ray, and they said I had an
eighth and tenth cracked rib uhto go with it.
So that that was tough to beat,but I mean it was honestly a

great feeling to I mean thatfeeling I had going to the T-Box
on day two to be in the leadgroup of the C flight was was it
was up there with the hole inone, I'll say that.
It was it was fun, it was a goodnervous feeling, and uh, you
know, it was just it was great.
And to finish in the top 20, uhwith uh, you know, shooting uh

what I think I was a you knowplus I don't even remember, but
this year that it was justawesome because you know, to be
able to shoot a 273, I think itwas a plus, yeah, uh 273 was my
total.
So uh it was an 87, 94, 92.
And to do that, to be able to bein the top 20, I mean, there's

so many guys out there that cando that, um, and and be right
there.
And then for me, in mysituation, just like everybody,
you shoot five strokes better inmy case over three rounds, and
you think how many shots we youknow jack up, uh, but just five
shots gets me in the top 10.
So that's what we're uh lookingforward to next year already.

SPEAKER_04 (32:36):
Again, that that's awesome.
And I didn't know you did notknow that you had some cracked
ribs as as well last year.

SPEAKER_03 (32:41):
So that oh my god, that was not comfortable.

And you had a drive home?

Yeah, yeah.

And drove both ways, yes, sir.
How far is it?

Uh it's about uh 17, 16, 17hours straight through.
Which I made it well, I left it12 30 this year and pulled in uh
Hilton Head about 5 30 in themorning or something like that.

Made it to a 10 o'clock tea timeand was good to go for my 95 and
it was good to go.

Oh man, that's awesome.

Yeah.
So fun.

So when when when I was touching base with you the
other day, uh, I I asked Jen totouch base with Nicole and say,
ask Nicole if she's gonna beable to help you, you know, get
get you logged on or not.
She she fly back real quick,said, Nope, he's on his own.
We don't live near each otheranymore.

SPEAKER_03 (33:52):
So he's on his own.
Yeah, and they call that I can'tcan't say enough with her.
I mean, I I kind of started thefirst couple years was messing,
you know, trying to do the adminstuff a little bit.
She does it so much better, somuch cleaner, and uh it's just
less for me to have to worryabout when I'm trying to play in
a tournament.
So she uh I can't even, youknow, can't give her enough

props for uh being the uh personbehind the scenes that's helping
keep everything in trick check,you know, all the skins money.
She's got that stuff, you know,boom, and envelopes and repped
to go to whoever it is.
And uh it's it's good.
It is um amazing, actually.
And the trofe she does a lot ofthe trophies that we pick out,

and uh yeah, I mean, we've hadsome cool trophies or uh start
off a season with the playerstournament in March and next
year, and she'll we'll have atournament that's somewhat
similar to uh the players, anduh that's our highest paying
tournament to try to kind ofmirror the PGA in a way, and
then we go into the Masters,which will be out at uh Topeka,
Kansas, at uh Fire Keeper, whichthey've had some, they had the

uh I believe a uh qualifier forthe U.S.
Open the week after we played itthis year, so we picked a rough
week to uh try to play there.
Wow.
Wow, wow.

SPEAKER_04 (35:13):
So do you have your your whole schedule done?

SPEAKER_03 (35:17):
No, um we've got I think seven, seven locked in,
uh, I believe at this time, anduh seven tournaments, and we
usually have we'll we'll lightenit up from last year.
We were a little heavy, I th youknow, thought.
So, but it'll be good.
Uh we'll have it, have it readyto go.
Uh probably where are we at?
Usually first part of December,we've got pretty much most of it

ready to go.
Sometimes it's tough gettinggetting some of the courses,
getting the courses getting backto you and uh getting in getting
in sync together.
Yeah, we're gonna go downtowards the wiki call area this
year, try to bring in some ofthe old members because that's
where the tour originated wasout of Wichita.
Um, and uh we're gonna we'vewe've you know we've had a

couple tournaments down there,but got a new sponsor down there
with sliced golf, uh ChrisAntoya, who came out to
Nationals this year.
Uh he's in the A, or uh I thinkhe's in the A flights.
So yeah, yeah, he's a heck of agolfer.
So uh, you know, he's gettingsome uh some of the old members
have come back from down there.
So we'll uh we'll have a majordown in Wichita this year, and

(36:23):
uh we'll have you know, we justkind of spread it out within uh
between here and Kansas City anddown even towards the Ozarks.
So got a uh a major down at theOzarks with uh Osage National
this year.

SPEAKER_04 (36:36):
That's awesome.
Well, what's the favoritecourse, the the guy's favorite
course they like to play everyyear?

SPEAKER_03 (36:42):
Um we always uh I would say just some of the
regular public sycamore isalways a good one.
Um, but some of our uh regularcourses here are public courses
in Kansas City that are goodturnouts or you know, it can be
like Stone Canyon, which is aGreg Norman course.
Um so yeah, and uh I believeWinterstone.

Uh there's several nice publiccourses here in Kansas City.
They're redoing uh SwopeMemorial, an old-time course.
They've been renovating it thispast year, and it'll be open
this year.
So we're hoping to uh to getback on there.

And and you you run the the uh the Midwest regional
uh out out at uh Branson, right?

SPEAKER_03 (37:28):
Down at Branson.
Um I help with Dennis.
Uh he's been you know kind ofcontrolling that, but um, I

Nicole's a big part of that, butthat's yeah, we're we're
pitching in with that one now.
And uh it's always a great eventat Buffalo Ridge and uh Zark
National, and it's uh always agood time down there, which is

probably my biggest win um beinga regional winner as a sea
flight a few years ago.
A couple yeah, that was big.
So those uh those regionals arealways fun.
We get out to a few, you'd liketo get out to one of Chris, you
know, out one out west uh thisyear.

Too far too far to drive, yeah.

Um I I'd probably make the driveif I had to myself, but it's
just maybe a day, maybe.

Jensen's a he's a he's awarrior.
He uh, you know, the player ofthe year that I have, he I don't
I didn't figure out the points,but he probably could have had a
chance of winning that this yearif he was a two uh member of the
Kansas Tour.
So I may need to look at thatand uh let anybody qualify for
that, maybe.
I don't know, but um he he's awarrior going to uh he lives uh

I believe in you know westernKansas, so it's uh it's a jump
for him whether he goes to theArizona Tour and uh or over here
at Orange.
But he still comes to a lot ofthe tournaments and uh he's he's
awesome.
He goes to the nationals everyyear as well.

I think he was third at the the Midwest Regional.

Yeah, and I believe didn't he win a regional out uh
West year maybe?
I gosh, I can't remember.

I think that flight had likefour people though, so we don't
we don't call it a a win.

That's what's what I'll go around and talk to.
My guys will go into a place ora restaurant where during a
major or in having a bite toeat, and I'll go in and say Dave
King, one of the top sea flightplayers in the state of
Missouri.

SPEAKER_04 (41:00):
So have fun will say that one of the things that you
do that I really love is it'sall the different competitions
that that you have out there.
I mean, the the the par fourchallenge, a long drive, the the
the uh rural challenge at playerof the year.
I mean, again, that's just youproviding a lot of value and a

lot of extra ways for people toget involved.
Uh how do you yeah.

SPEAKER_03 (41:26):
Well, yeah, we've got a great camaraderie, and
it's just a good way to havesome good fun smack talk with
everybody, and just that funcompetitiveness uh throughout
the year.
Um, to give you an example.
I mean, for player of the yearthis year, shout out to Matt
Thorman.
He started out in the A flight,moved up to the champ flight,
ended up being player of theyear.
He was in fifth or sixth placeuh uh going into the uh last

(41:50):
tournament at drum and and wonit.
Um, and you know, that shot himup to the to winning the player
of the year.
So he had a great year.
Um it's it that that player ofthe year has come down to that
final tournament every year witha good six, eight people, you
know, uh, with a shot at winningthe player of the year.
But that's that's a big one.
Uh of course, winning yourflight, that's the biggest you

(42:12):
know, money payout uh that wehave, or you know, for each one.
Um, but then we also had, likeyou said, the Royal Challenge,
most birdies in your flight, andthe long drive to mention that,
and the sea flight.
Uh, I was uh it's been this oneother year where I had three
going into the finals, uh, andthen uh we had Dylan Mills, who

(42:33):
had four.
Um, I won Saturday, the day one,so that got us at 4-4 on the
season, and then uh day two,neither one of us won.
And it came down to where wewent back to hole 18.
We flip a coin, the other guygoes, stands, and turns around
the other way while the firstguy does their drive, and then
the other guy does.
And uh he didn't keep his in thefairway, so I got him this year.

But um, I've given away the simtwo drivers, uh, sim two drivers
for the winner of that each oneyear, and uh Scotty Cameron
putters gave away some ScottyCameron putters another year,
and uh, but this year it wasjust some money, but yeah, so
it's it's just I just like thecompetition, uh, just uh getting
it among people like me andanyone that can three putt from

four feet, so you know makes itit makes it a little more
pressure, just a little morestuff going on, you know.

Are you gonna add anything new for uh 2026?

I was just talking to Nicole about that.
Um, you know, we've got quite abit of things going on, so um, I

well a major down at the Ozarkswith Osage National, um, I
believe, and uh, and uh and oneother course there uh that'll be
close by.
But um as far as competitions oryou know, awards and stuff, I

don't uh you know, I haven'treally got anything new going on
with that.
Like I said, we've got quite afew.

I mean, again there's so manydifferent opportunities for for
for people to win stuff, right?

Yeah, so like you you could you could finish um
let's just say top ten everytournament.

You know, um if you you can still win your flight on
ours, player of the year is asituation where you have to win
a tournament to earn points.

Oh, you gotta okay.

But it goes on tournament win, second place
win.
Uh second place gets you alittle bit, but that's mainly
the and then depending on howmany people's in your flight.
If you've only got three people,you get like 60% of the points
or 40%, whatever it is.
So that kind of deal.

Again, it's it's still, you know, you show up you
and you have a chance.

No, bro, yeah, I've got a few uh right, yeah.
Yeah, Kelly Barton and the whim,uh, for the women, the D flight,
or Julie Kruger, uh KathyHafner, and all of them, they'll
come in.
And uh, you know, Kelly may notfinish, or you know, Kevin Mel
Kelly may not finish in the youknow top three or whatever, but
she picked up um you know one orone of the par three challenges

one time with the skin and youknow just gets gets that extra
money and just something to youknow keep you keep you going and
makes you it's a good feel.
So yeah, it's always good to seeall those players.
I'd love to see differentplayers coming down the stretch,
getting into that feeling ofknowing they're in the
leaderboard.
A lot of them, you know, aresaying, hey, we don't look at

the leaderboard, it don't lookat the leaderboard, you know,
but I'm sure a lot of them knowwhen they're up there.
So it's just a great feelingwhen you can uh get different
players to uh be able tocompete.
That's why I'm always trying toget my players in the their
right, you know, correct flight,which I know it can be
challenging sometimes.
There's always the borderlineplayers, but it it makes it uh

it's a great time where you cansee everybody get up there and
have that chance.

played a little bit, but youknow, think about that.
Two knee replacements in twomonths and was playing golf

four-tour rider cup.

You know, that'd be fun.
Get getting together all seasonto just uh to get together and

And I and I know there's others going on.
Um so you know, if if you'relistening and your tour had has
a rider cup at this time ofyear, and you didn't make the
team, work for that for nextyear.
And if you're on a tour thatdoesn't have a rider cup,
instead of maybe just tellingthe tour director you uh to have
one, offer to help.

Say, look, I I I because it it'sa it's a pretty big commitment.
Say, look, you know, whateveryou if if you want to do it, I'd
be happy to help you put in andput these things together
because what a rider cup can doto for a tour from a morale
perspective and and reallybringing guys together is
incredible, and and you canreally speak to that.

Um it takes a lot ofcollaboration between both tour
directors, or in Lau's case, allfour.
