(00:01):
You're sitting on a sunny patio with a pimento cheese sandwich
and a cold drink. Now I want a pimento cheese
sandwich. You're catching up with your
friends you haven't seen in way too long.
Everyone's been busy. Also, there's a local coffee
company that's been quietly doing something beautiful.
(00:22):
And your European bucket list just got a whole lot easier to
check off. Hey, I'm glad you're back with
me today and stick around. Hey, I've got a dad joke for you
at the end. It's safe for the kiddos and the
cars. And I got to say, it's it's
enlightening. All right, If you've been around
Raleigh for a while, you probably have Sunflowers Cafe
(00:42):
Memories, That patio, those sandwiches, the kind of spot
where you'd show up for brunch and somehow you're still there
at dinnertime. Well, it's coming back after a
years long break. Sunflowers is reopening and
they're bringing some fresh twists with them.
(01:03):
Cocktails, late night pool tables.
But there's still that same vibethat made it a local
institution. And here's the thing about
places like this, they're not just restaurants.
They're where you celebrated promotions, where you brought
your out of town friends to showthem the real Raleigh, and where
(01:23):
you had that conversation that changed everything.
It's not you, it's me. This is what community looks
like. Honestly, a place closes, people
just miss it and when it comes back everyone shows back up.
You might just have to swing by and see if those pimento cheese
(01:44):
sandwiches taste as good as I remember.
Speaking of local spots doing something right, let's talk
about 321 Coffee. So this Raleigh coffee roastery
just landed some pretty major partnerships.
Wegmans is putting them on shelves.
Wow, that's a big win. Cisco's teaming up with them.
(02:05):
The whole business is scaling up, and that's already good
news. But here's what makes it even
better. 321 Coffee's entire mission is employing people with
intellectual and developmental disabilities.
That's not a side thing. That's the thing.
And now they're growing fast enough that Wegmans and Cisco
(02:27):
are saying, hey, yeah, we want in on this, too.
I mean, you love to see that like a business can do well and
and do good at the same time. Who knew, right?
I mean, that's a life win. And This is why I do this
podcast, by the way, because starting your day with evidence
(02:49):
that good things happen sure beats whatever crisis is
trending underneath your finger on your phone.
I'm just saying, listening to this will make your day better.
OK. But this next one's for anybody
who's ever looked at flights to Europe and gone.
I got to connect through Charlotte again.
(03:09):
That would be me. I hate connecting through
Charlotte. Well, not anymore, because
Lufthansa's adding a daily direct flight from RDU to
Frankfurt starting in spring 2026.
I might have to surprise my wifewith a flight.
As in, you wake up in Raleigh and you land in Germany.
(03:30):
No layovers, No 3 hour or 30 minute connection, No sprinting
through the airport, No. Excuse me, excuse me, You just
go. And honestly, this is one of
those things that makes the Triangle feel like it's really
growing up. You know, we got the coffee
shops, we got the great food andthe text scene and the food
(03:52):
culture. But now, now you can just hop on
a plane and be in Europe by tomorrow morning.
That bucket list just got a lot more doable.
Now if we only had a cruise portin town.
All right, that dad joke I promised you.
It's not yet. It's coming up.
