What does financial planning look like when you're treated like family instead of just another account number? Jason Taylor of Taylor's Financial reveals the deeply personal approach that sets his practice apart in this enlightening conversation on the Good Neighbor Podcast.

Based in Fort Collins for 17 years, Jason explains how his third-generation accounting heritage evolved into a comprehensive financial planning practice. Unlike many advisors, Taylor's Financial operates on a strictly fee-only model – meaning no commissions or kickbacks for referrals – ensuring clients receive truly objective guidance. Jason debunks common industry misconceptions, particularly the notion that financial planning is solely about investments. Instead, his practice addresses the full spectrum of financial needs including estate planning, tax strategy, insurance planning, and real estate investments.

Most remarkable is Jason's commitment to maintaining intimate client relationships by deliberately limiting his practice to fewer than 70 clients total – a stark contrast to advisors managing thousands. This intentional approach means they truly know their clients, celebrating birthdays and family milestones together. Beyond professional achievements, Jason shares his personal dedication to suicide prevention efforts and offers listeners the opportunity to experience his client-centered approach through a free consultation. For personalized financial guidance from an advisor who remembers your children's names and treats your financial goals as seriously as his own, visit https://www.taylorsfinancial.com/ to learn more about this good neighbor in the Fort Collins financial community.

Well, I've been in the Fort Collins area for 17
years now.
We are a fee-only financialplanning business, which means
we do not charge a commission orget paid if we refer your
business somewhere else.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Interesting.
How did you get into thisbusiness?

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Well, I am a third generation accountant and I
started out doing bookkeeping, payroll and income taxes and saw
that our clients had a need forfinancial planning and at the
time we were just referring allthe people away.
So I decided to start up afinancial planning practice
within the accounting business.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Wow, what are some myths or misconceptions in your
industry?

Speaker 3 (01:19):
I think one of the biggest things that I came
across actually a couple things.
Biggest things that I cameacross, actually a couple things
.
One is that all of us areBernie Madoffs or that we're
just there to steal people'smoney.
So that's one that I have dealtwith in the past as far as
people mistrusting financialplanners or investment people.

(01:40):
The other one is that financialplanning is just about
investments, which it is not.
We dive into estate planning, tax planning, insurance planning
, rental properties a lot ofdifferent aspects, not just
investments.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Who are your target customers right now and how are
you attracting them?

Speaker 3 (02:06):
now and how are you attracting them?
Target customers right now arebusiness owners.
One of our strongest taxplanning sides is with business
owners.
Financial planning wise, it'spretty much anyone who is in the
accumulation phase juststarting to save up money for
retirement or for other goals.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Taylor, have you ever thought about reaching clients
through a podcast?

Speaker 3 (02:30):
I actually bought all the equipment for it back in
2020.
I had several of my colleaguesthat were doing very well with
podcasts, and so I had lookedinto it, but I never really got
further than that.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Outside of work.
What do you do for fun?

Speaker 3 (02:49):
I love watching my daughters play volleyball or
soccer.
Go skiing with my daughtersBasically, spending time with
family is the main thing I do.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Let's switch gears.
Can you describe a hardship ora life challenge that you
overcame and how it made youstronger?
What comes to mind?

Speaker 3 (03:07):
A lot of times we think of hardships or life
challenges.
People passing away come tomind and for me the biggest ones
that affected my life would bepeople who have died from
suicide.
So I've been active in thesuicide prevention here in town
and also down in the Denvermetro area.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Taylor, would you please tell our listeners one
thing that they shouldabsolutely remember about
Taylor's financial.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
You know I'm sure you hear this on the radio or the
news all the time but we doreally do treat our clients like
family.
We know their kids' names, weknow their birthdays.
In fact I'm going to celebrateone of my client's 80th
birthdays tomorrow with her forlunch.
But we really do celebrate andtreat our clients like family.

(03:59):
We don't have a lot of clients,so we keep our clientele under
70 clients total, where othershave thousands, and so we can
really get to know our clientsthat way.
