Terry's journey into aesthetic acupuncture began with a deeply personal motivation—helping his mother with fibromyalgia—and evolved through years of study and practice. He debunks common misconceptions about acupuncture, explaining how it works on scientific principles of electrical conductivity through the body's meridians to promote natural cellular regeneration and healing.

What sets Foxhaven Aesthetics apart is their commitment to authenticity. "We're all about you being you," Terry emphasizes, "not masking what's going on with toxins, but fully integrating who you are into how you look." This philosophy resonates with clients ranging from prevention-minded twenty-somethings to octogenarians seeking natural rejuvenation.

Most moving is Terry's personal story of overcoming Bell's palsy at age 10—an experience that gave him profound empathy for those who feel disconnected from their reflection. This childhood trauma ultimately inspired him to help others reconcile their inner feelings with their outer appearance through natural means, even leading him to write a book called The Hunt for My Smile.

Whether you're curious about natural beauty alternatives or drawn to holistic health approaches, Terry's blend of extensive knowledge, personal experience, and commitment to authenticity offers a refreshing perspective. Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place
where local businesses andneighbors come together.
Here's your host, Nick George.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast.
Are you in need of the perfectaesthetic practice?
One might be closer than youthink.
Today I have the pleasure ofintroducing your good neighbor,
terry Fox with FoxhavenAesthetics.
Terry, how's it going?

Speaker 3 (00:26):
I'm doing well.
Thanks for the opportunity ofallowing me to speak.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
We're excited to learn all about you and your
practice.
Tell us about Foxhaven.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Foxhaven Aesthetics is a traditional Chinese
medicine clinic that focuses onaesthetic and facial acupuncture
.
So we're the natural, holisticalternative to things like Botox
, juvederm, dysport, all thosebotulinum toxins.
If you don't feel like you wantto do that, but you're still

(00:58):
feeling like you want to lift, tighten and tone, help yourself
look younger, that's where wecome in.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
How did you get into this business?

Speaker 3 (01:10):
I started out as a massage therapist back in 1999.
I got into it because my momwas diagnosed with fibromyalgia,
which is a chronic autoimmunepain condition, and so I wanted
to help her which is a chronicautoimmune pain condition and so
I wanted to help her.
That led me to massage therapyschool.
I got exposure to Chinesemedicine theory, especially

(01:31):
acupressure, and appliedkinesiology there.
That led me to the hospital inLaramie, Wyoming Ivinson
Memorial Hospital, and I wasdoing acupressure in the
hospital and just running intopeople that I thought, dang, if
I knew how to do this like anacupuncturist, these people
might not even be in here.

(01:52):
So that led me to acupunctureschool and Doc Ron Rosen, who
was one of my mentors in schoolmentors in school and Ron taught
a form of acupuncture that hecalled cosmetic acupuncture and
he used that on the face, heused that on the breasts, he
used that on the abdomen, all totighten, lift and tone and

(02:20):
anything Doc was doing.
I thought, man, that's cool, Iwant to do that too.
So I started learning about itand the more I started learning
about it the more I really Iliked it.
So that's kind of the icing onthe cake for me is doing the
aesthetic treatments.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
What are some myths or misconceptions in your
industry?

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Myths or misconceptions.
Well, everybody knows that.
You know, acupuncture is verystrange.
It's supposed to be thismythical sort of thing, maybe
even quasi religious.
It's not.
Acupuncture is very much.

(03:15):
Scienceians actually carryvoltage through the body, and
voltage is needed in order forcells to regenerate themselves.
So we work on a scientificbasis.
It's not all who do mumbo jumbo.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Who are your target customers right now and how do
you attract them?

Speaker 3 (03:39):
My target customers are primarily women, although I
work with men who are feeling adisconnect between what they see
in the mirror and how they feelon the inside, and so that can
be someone who might be in their20s who just wants to start

(04:01):
preventing wrinkles from showingup.
It could be a woman somewherebetween 30 to 55.
Or I've even had some80-year-olds in here working on

(04:22):
their face and wrinkles as well.
But it's about having thatconnection between your inside
and your outside, lining up sothat you feel good in your body
and look good on the outside.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
You mentioned having some experience and teaching
people through this format.
Have you ever thought aboutdoing your own podcast for this
industry?

Speaker 3 (04:39):
You know, I used to have a podcast back in the day
about four or five years ago.
It was called the Get Foxy Show.
I'm sure there's still probablysome episodes on YouTube
somewhere and the goal there waskind of helping educate people
about alternative forms ofmedicine.
So I wouldn't be opposed todoing a podcast like this again.

(05:01):
I just haven't gotten around toit Outside of work.
What do you do for fun, for fun, oh goodness.
I'm a big nerd.
I like reading science fiction, fantasy novels.
I also train at CatalystBrazilian Jiu-Jitsu here in
Windsor Colorado.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Very cool.
Let's switch gears.
Can you describe a hardship ora life challenge that you
overcame and how it made youstronger?
What comes to?

Speaker 3 (05:29):
mind.
You bet Part of the reason Ibecame a facial acupuncturist
was when I was 10, I ended upgetting Bell's palsy and for
folks that don't know what thatis, that is a one-sided facial
paralysis.
I ended up taking a baseball tothe, to the face, and a few
days later all of a sudden oneside of my face didn't work and

(06:01):
I went through.
I think that was about sixweeks of treatment and at that
time I was just starting middleschool, you know sixth grade,
when I'm trying to fit in witheverybody else.
And boy did I not fit in.
So that was an interesting timein life to kind of figure out
who I was and who my realfriends were.

(06:21):
I actually wrote about it in abook called the Hunt for my
Smile and it can be found onAmazon.
But yeah, it was a tough time.
But I now have a heart forpeople who look in the mirror

(06:41):
and aren't happy with what theysee.
I didn't want anybody feelingthe way I felt about myself.
I don't want them feeling thatin themselves.
So that's part of the reasonwhy I started doing the
aesthetic facial work.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
