I'm doing.

How are you?

Speaker 2 (00:31):
I'm doing great also and it is a pleasure to have you
on today and we are so excitedto learn all about you and your
business.
Can you tell us a bit aboutyour company?

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Yeah, yeah, grateful for the opportunity to be on
here and talk about our company.
As you said, we're True StarOutdoor Solutions.
We design and build elitebackyards.
We can make designs and then weexecute those designs, making
sure that you have the bestbackyard you can from pool
remodels to patio covers, paverpatios, artificial turf we do it

all.
If it's in the yard, we do it.

And so, Cameron, when it comes to getting involved in
that outdoor world.
How did you get into thisbusiness originally?

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah, so I've been in the business about 10-15 years.
Originally started off inbetween college semesters.
I was actually working on acrew that was doing what's
called hydromulching, which ispretty much spraying grass seed
out of fire hoses.
And from there I kind ofrealized I loved being outside
and I loved making outdoorspaces beautiful.

(01:40):
So from there I started workingfor other companies doing
irrigation, doing agronomy,before I realized, you know, I
can do this on my own.
I feel like I can treat peoplebetter, I feel like I can leave
a better product, and so Icreated TrueStar to make sure
that you know the area and thecommunity that I grew up in

(02:02):
everybody can have their spacethat they can call their home
and enjoy with their families.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
That's amazing.
And so, cameron, what is thebiggest myth or misconception
you come across in your industry?

Speaker 3 (02:17):
I think one of the biggest myths or misconceptions
is that I would say there's two,one being that it's that people
always go with the cheapest bid.
Unfortunately, I've just seenthat hurt people in the long run
so many times.
You know, I've gotten a lot ofcalls a couple of years out from

(02:40):
someone's original project withanother vendor and they have
problems.
The patio is breaking, thingsare falling apart.
So my warning of advice is makesure that, whatever company you
have, they have a website, theyhave great reviews and they
have insurance, and one thing torealize is that any company

(03:01):
that has those things they'renot going to be the cheapest,
but they are going to get youtaken care of.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
So, cameron, who are your target clients and, in
terms of marketing, how do youattract them?

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yeah, our target clients is typically anybody
from 30 to 60 years of age,normally families, but sometimes
some couples without kids, andwe seek our clients through a
few different ways LinkedInoutreach, we have Google ads,

(03:36):
meta ads, we have a door hangercampaign and we haven't been
doing this, but really trying tostep up our networking.
So just attending events weplan on attending future home
and garden shows and attendingany other kind of events where
we can network with people andjust let them know how we can
help them.
We really try not to be salesy.

(03:57):
Our approach is moreeducational and more relational
and if somebody feels like wecan help them, then that means
we're a good fit and we'll helpyou out and we'll provide a
service for you.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Outside of work.
What do you like to do for fun?

Speaker 3 (04:15):
So work is kind of my life, maybe to the dismay of my
wife.
But no, I have a beautiful,lovely wife, she's my best
friend, and I have two kids, athree-year-old boy and a
one-year-old girl, and they area handful and they keep me busy
and I love them dearly.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
That's amazing.
So, cameron, let's go ahead andswitch gears for a second.
Can you describe a hardship orlife challenge you overcame and
how it made you a better andstronger person today?
What comes to mind for you?

Speaker 3 (04:50):
Yeah, I did for a church.
I actually volunteered for amission, a multi-year long
mission down in Mexico.
It was a fabulous time.
I love learning the culture.
Learning Spanish has been ablessing in my life, especially
in the green industry, but therewas definitely some hardships.

(05:10):
I mean, we were in areas thatis not like Plano and Frisco.
They don't have the blessingsthat we have here, and so it
really blessed my life torealize that I should be
grateful for what I have and toreally embrace other people and
other cultures and and learn tolove the differences.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Wow, well, that's.
That's amazing, that you gotthe experience to go and help
other people.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Yeah, it's.
It's definitely changed who Iam in a better way and and I'm
forever grateful that I was Ihad that opportunity yeah.
