Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Good
Neighbor Podcast, the place
where local businesses andneighbors come together.
Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Welcome to the Good
Neighbor Podcast.
Are you in need of a generalcontractor?
Well, one may be closer thanyou think.
Today I have the pleasure ofintroducing your good neighbor,
tim North, with Eagles Landing.
General Contracting Tim, howare you today?
I know you have quite a storyto share with us.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Yes, I'm great.
I'm doing really, really welland I'm glad to be here today.
Thank you, sophia.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
You're welcome and we
are so excited to learn all
about you and your business.
Let's have you start withtelling us a bit about your
company Eagles Landing GeneralContracting.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
We're a full-service
general contracting so we help
people with everything, whateverthey may need.
But the main thing that we helppeople with is dealing with
insurance claims, hail, any typeof storm damage, tornado,
possibly a pipe burst where youhave to deal with insurance.
That's always the mostchallenging part, because the
insurance company never wants topay and they never want to pay
(01:06):
what they're supposed to pay forsure.
So we fight for people to getthem what they need done that
way.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
And so, tim, how did
you originally get into this
business?
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Well, I've been a
handyman most of my life.
My mom actually taught me all Ineed to know about construction
.
It's funny, my dad didn't evenknow which end of the
screwdriver to use, so my momwas an amazing woman.
She portaged through theboundary waters, she taught me
how to camp, how to do you knowpainting, and she actually
bought a new house because shecouldn't do any more remodeling
(01:39):
to her existing house.
And so basically I've beendoing handyman and construction
work all my life.
And then I remember one day Godsaying to me hey, tim, I will
always bless you, but if you'rewilling to do what I gifted you
to do, which is work with peoplein the sales and things like
that, and give the work away, Ican bless so many more people
(02:03):
through you than just you.
And so that began atransformation of going from a
handyman to being a generalcontractor with.
Now I subcontract out all thework and so many other families
are blessed by clients.
Choosing to work with us allowsother people to provide for
their families as well.
So it's been an amazing journey.
(02:24):
It really has.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
So it sounds like Tim
, what you're saying is that
being a general contractor isyour ministry, not just your
business it is.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
It really is.
I have clients all the time.
I was just telling you about aclient had a hot water leak
underneath the house.
The entire house got filledwith mold.
So you know, when we come in,people are having problems.
They're really struggling.
They generally don't know howto deal with the insurance
company and the insurancecompany is definitely not our
friend and so I get the abilityI can't tell you how many times
(02:58):
I've got the opportunity to prayfor people, encourage people
and just tell them hey, I knowit's a challenge right now, but
guess what?
This situation is going to giveyou a new house.
Everything's going to be brandnew when we're done, and so in
the end it ends up being ablessing.
Like I was telling you before, god writes straight with crooked
lines this client who's goingthrough a tough time is going to
(03:19):
end up with a brand new house, brand new plumbing, brand new AC
, everything.
People generally just needsomebody that they can trust and
talk to and that's willing tohelp.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Most definitely, and
sometimes in our darkest places,
where God meets us and hisglory is shined through the
success of whatever thechallenge is.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Absolutely, and one
of my favorite scriptures is all
things work for the good ofthose that love him, and
sometimes it's hard, and that'sreally when faith kicks in, when
it's not going the way we want, and that's where the Bible
talks about a sacrifice ofpraise.
I had a situation wheresomething went my way.
I was so excited, did a happydance, and then that something
(04:03):
was taken away and God said tome where's your happy dance now?
I was so excited, did a happydance, and then that something
was taken away and God said tome where's your happy dance now?
I was like what do you mean?
It's gone, it's not hereanymore.
It's like oh really, was thatperson who provides for you?
Is that the one who takes careof you?
I'm like no, sir.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
So I began to crank
up my happy dance and start
praising God.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
You know when Paul
says I've learned to be content
in all situations, with much orlittle.
That's the key to success inlife and is our attitude.
And if we remember always thatGod is in control, he's never
surprised by anything happening,we can be at peace because he
loves us.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Amen to that, and
it's also, I think, about moving
with your intentions, from yourheart and not your mind.
You want to move in connectionwith the holy spirit and allow
the holy spirit to transformyour whole life.
Back to these questions you gotit?
Who are your target customersand, in terms of marketing, how
(05:01):
do you attract them?
Speaker 3 (05:02):
well, basically with
really my target market is
anybody that's been affected bya storm, anybody that has
insurance that they need to dealwith.
I do all types of constructionand handle anything that
somebody needs, but the mainthing I target for and market
for is storm damage.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
And, in terms of
marketing, how do you attract
these clients?
Speaker 3 (05:29):
We're going to start
making some videos, doing some
Facebook things like that.
My son is my general managerand so we really are a family
business here and he's amazingand that's the other thing too
when God was telling me ifyou'll give the work away, that
also includes the dynamics ofthe corporation and the company.
You know, my son manages thecruise, he handles the website
(05:53):
stuff, he handles other things.
I now have an accountant.
I have somebody else that helpsme work with insurance
companies, so it's the samething on this side.
I need to stay in my lane anddo what God made me to do and
then be willing to hire andpartner with other people,
because it's community thatmakes things successful.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Amen.
Now let's go ahead and switchgears.
Can you describe a hardship orlife challenge you overcame and
how it made you a better andstronger person today?
What comes to mind for you, Tim?
Speaker 3 (06:24):
I through some really
hard things as a child, and I
won't get into the details.
I'm sure everybody can relateto having people treat you in a
way that is completelyunacceptable and inappropriate
and that led me into depressionand anxiety and literally life
crippling fear for several years.
(06:44):
It caused me to make poorchoices in just looking for a
way to ease the pain and then, you know, I got to a point where
I finally surrendered and itwas like, look, I can't do this,
I'm lost.
And God just came in and andjust literally delivered me the
(07:04):
scripture.
He was in Christ as a newcreation.
The old is gone and the new hascome is what happened.
Like that guy died and all of asudden, this stable, reliable,
independent, powerful man cameout of this experience.
And today you know peoplealways ask me what you know,
what your key to success is, andit's submission to Christ in my
(07:28):
life.
The only difference between menow and me hopeless is the level
of submission to Christ in mylife.
He literally does everythingthrough me.
Obviously, I have to go to work,I have to do this stuff.
Perfect example I'm at a housewhere there is a roof that
doesn't have a lot of damage andthe insurance adjuster their
job is to turn it down and theadjuster's up there like an hour
(07:51):
and a half and he looks at me.
He says don't worry, Tim, I'mgoing to find enough damage to
get this bought for your client.
I'm like what?
That's not his job, Favor.
At the end of the day, peoplesay I'm a good salesperson, we
do good work, all that kind ofstuff, but what I'm most
grateful for is the favor of Godin every area of my life, Like
right now.
My most exciting thing is I gottwo grandkids that are like
(08:14):
five months and 10 months andthey're like, they're my world.
You know, I just it's.
This company allows me to dowhat I want to do.
I'm able to be a blessing topeople, but most of all, I'm
able to be a good provider formy family, and that means a lot.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Well, tim, thank you
so much for sharing that with us
.
And one further question foryou on that same note.
Now, when you were on your pathto becoming and getting
delivered Right, what was itthat kept you seeking God out in
that time to eventually lead toyour salvation?
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Man when I was in a
program called Teen Challenge,
which is a Christiandiscipleship program, when I was
20 years old, I had given mylife to Christ and in my mind I
had failed and I didn't want theBible to be true and I didn't
want God to be real.
But I knew he was, and so I wasat just a point of complete and
(09:16):
total desperation.
And I remember I woke up at4.58 in the morning and I heard
the audible voice of God and hesaid to me hey, tim, is it me or
everything else?
And I was like God, I want you.
I want you more than anything.
But I'm terrified, god, becauseif you reject me, I know
there's nowhere else to go.
And he said to me Tim, I'm yourfather, I love you.
(09:37):
I made you for heaven.
You couldn't get to heaven ifyou wanted to.
And he said, tim, if you wantto go around this mountain as
many times as you want, I willalways clean you up.
I will always love you and Iwill always love you and I will
always take care of you and I'llalso always let you go do dumb
stuff if you want.
And he said but don't you wantwhat I have for you and I was
like, well, what do you have forme?
(09:58):
And he said it doesn't matter.
But if you want what I have foryou, you're going to have to.
Let me grow you up and I'mgoing to tell you, tim, it's not
going to feel like I love youIn this process of maturity, in
this process of sanctification.
You're going to feel alone.
You're going to feel abandoned, you're going to feel like I
don't care.
But I need you to hold on tothe truth that I'm your father
(10:22):
and I love you and I promise you, if you hold on, it will be
okay in the end, and that's whatI've held on to.
He gave me the verse Jeremiah 29, 11,.
For I know the plans I have foryou, declares the Lord, plans
to prosper you, not to harm you,to give you hope in the future.
You will seek me and find mewhen you seek me with all your
heart.
When you seek me with all yourheart, I will be found by you,
(10:43):
declares the Lord, and then Iwill bring you back from the
places where I placed you intocaptivity and where I banished
you into exile.
And that was the promise that Iheld on to all these years.
And now it's true, in my life Ihave more than I could ever
possibly imagine, and what's sofunny is the things I thought
(11:03):
that mattered the most the cars, the money, all that kind of
stuff are the things I careabout the least.
Like I just said, my grandkids,my family, my family got a
beautiful wife today, and so youknow, it's amazing how God just
takes hopelessness and trulybeauty from ashes is the best
way I can describe it.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Amen, amen.
And final question for you.
You got it.
Speaker 3 (11:26):

I want to appreciate you.

do for your clients.
It's the same way as me.
I want to be a blessing to myclients and I can tell with
absolute sincerity that yourdesire is to be a blessing to
people, and that's a rarity andI want to say thank you for that
as well.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
