Speaker 2 (00:10):
Welcome to the Good
Neighbor Podcast.
Are you in need of a realtor?
Well, what may be closer thanyou think?
Today I have the pleasure ofintroducing your good neighbor,
jessica Buchanan, with BuchananProperty Group.
Jessica, how are you today?
I'm doing great.
How are you?
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Sophia.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
I'm also doing great.
Now we are excited to learn allabout you and your business.
Can you start by telling ourlisteners a little bit about
your company?
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Sure, yes, we help
families all across the DFW
Metroplex buy or sell or investin new homes.
We also have access to acommercial agent who helps if
you're looking for a place foryour business.
So that's pretty much it in anutshell.
I call us more consultants thansellers.
(00:58):
I feel like homes sellthemselves and we're just the
people in the middle trying tohelp you find the right one.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Now, how did you
originally get into this
business?
Speaker 3 (01:12):
So it's a funny story
.
My family has always been inreal estate.
My granddad owned some REMAXfranchises in Colorado.
We've had family here in Texasthat done a lot of different
real estate residential andcommercial and the thought never
occurred to me to do realestate until about seven years
(01:32):
ago.
I was working really hard for acorporate company and then, out
of the blue, I got laid off andI guess within that first year
they closed several of the plansof that company and I just
determined at that point that Iwas never going to work that
hard for anybody else again, andso I started exploring the real
estate option.
(01:52):
It just, you know, I was justraised that you work Monday
through Friday, nine to five, your 40 hour work week, and you
get your paycheck.
So it really just neveroccurred to me to go out and be
my own business.
But at that time I thought, well, I don't really have
anything to lose because I'm notabout to start over with
another company, and so I juststarted exploring it and then I
(02:13):
went and got my license inAugust of 2019.
And I haven't looked back.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Well, you never know,
till you take that leap of
faith, right?
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Yes, definitely.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Now let's get into
the most common myth or
misconception you come across inyour industry.
What is that most popular mythor misconception?
Speaker 3 (02:33):
So there's a lot when
it comes to real estate, but I
think one of the most common isthat number one, that we all do
the same thing, or that we alldo nothing.
We just stick a sign in theyard and then you know we're
good and we're living thisglamorous life.
And it's really not like that.
Your good agents are out there, they're studying all the time.
They're looking at the market, they're looking at the stats,
(02:55):
they're really working on theirprofession to provide you the
best service possible.
And I know there's someprobably not good people out
there, but honestly, mostrealtors are really hardworking,
just great people that do a lotof work to provide the services
that we provide.
And it's it's not alwaysglamorous.
(03:16):
It's a lot of hard work, it's alot of after hours.
You're running a business, notjust not just being a realtor.
You actually have a businessbehind the scenes that you have
to take care of as well.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
So, jessica, we know
marketing is the heart of every
business.
How do you currently marketyour business?
Speaker 3 (03:33):
A lot of our
marketing is on social media.
It's just the easiest and bestway and, honestly, since COVID,
when everything got shut down, marketing that way is just the
best way to go and get the wordout.
Also, open houses are a bigdeal, meeting people face to
face.
Anything you can do to networkand just get in front of people
is the best way to network.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
And on that note, who
are your target clients?
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Our target clients
are pretty much anybody.
What I love about our team isthat every agent that comes to
us, we work really hard withthem at the beginning for them
to determine what is going to betheir specialized niche.
So on the team we have somebodythat's geared for senior real
estate services.
You know those are for peoplewho are retiring or maybe for
families who need to combinehouseholds because you've got an
(04:22):
older parent or grandparentsyou have to live together.
It's called the sandwichgeneration.
We also have really good agentsthat are exclusively just
working with buyers, andespecially the first time home
buyers, because that's anoverwhelming process for a lot
of people.
And then we have specializedlisting agents that really all
they do is study the market andhow to get those homes sold in
(04:42):
this market that we're in rightnow.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Wow, with all this
knowledge, jessica, have you
ever thought of having your ownpodcast?
Speaker 3 (04:50):
I actually haven't
gotten it started yet, but I
actually have got some topicsready to go.
I've got the room ready to go.
It's just a matter of sittingdown and filming those podcasts.
But this is actually prettyinspiring watching you use this
platform, and I think it mightkick me into gear.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
And outside of work.
What do you like to do for fun?
Speaker 3 (05:14):
We love our dogs.
We have some rescue dogs.
We're very passionate aboutthat.
I say we, because it's me andmy husband.
We also love the water, so welike to be outdoors.
If we're either outside, youknow, at the pool with the dogs
and the grandbabies, or we're atthe river, or we're going to
Mexico and being at the beach.
We just want to be outside inthe warm, where it's fun and we
(05:35):
can be in the water.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Well, who can blame
me for that?
It's fun and we can be in thewater.
Well, who can blame me for that?
Now, please tell our listenersone thing they should remember
about Buchanan Property Group.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
I think, when it
comes to our group, one thing
you should remember is that wecustomize every transaction for
the individual, whatever it is.
Whatever the situation is,you're going to get the ideal
agent for that situation andthat market and you're going to
get a customized solution forjust you.
Yes, everybody has systems andchecklists, but really, at the
end of the day, nobody'ssituation is the same and
(06:14):
sometimes you have to reallycustomize the situation and the
sale or the buy process to makeit work for somebody who's
moving in from out of town orsomebody who really has to stay
in their home until the lastminute or even two weeks after.
It's our job to find thosesolutions and I really feel like
we have the best team to dothat.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
So, jessica, what was
the most surprising thing to
you that you realized when youbecame a realtor?
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Well, a lot of things
surprised me, I think, going
into.
I started out on a team and Iloved it, it was great.
And then I got, oh, I'm goingto be a solo agent.
And I'm telling you it was likea week later COVID hit and shut
(07:01):
everything down and I was like,oh my gosh, what have I done?
Because now I'm a solo agent, Ihave no leads, I have nothing
going on.
But I think the most surprisingthing to me was, if you're
naturally a creative person andyou're naturally a hard worker
and you're always, for me, justdissatisfied with just the
status quo I always wanted toget to the next level, next
(07:22):
level then real estate might befor you because all of those
characteristics that drove mebefore, that actually drove me
crazy.
Being in a nine to five workenvironment, it's just limitless
.
When you get here, it's all upto you and how far you want to
go and where do you want to takeit, and there's a million
different ways to do it.
So for me, I think the mostsurprising thing is there's not
(07:44):
just one way to earn income inreal estate, there's millions.
So you, I don't think you'llever get bored at this job ever.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Final question for
you today, jessica where can our
listeners go to learn moreabout Buchanan Property Group?
Speaker 3 (08:01):
You can go.
We have a website, it'swwwrealrealestatecom.
We also have a Facebook page, buchanan Property Group, and an
Instagram page.
I think our Instagram pageneeds a little bit of tweaking
because we're not as active onit as we are, but Facebook is
very active and all of ourrealtors have their pages as
well, so it's probably best tofind us on Facebook and our new
(08:23):
website.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Well, Jessica, I
really appreciate you being on
the show.
We wish you and your businessthe best moving forward.
