Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Good
Neighbor Podcast, the place
where local businesses andneighbors come together.
Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Welcome to the Good
Neighbor Podcast.
Are you in need of anorthodontist?
Well, one may be closer thanyou think.
Today I have the pleasure ofintroducing your good neighbor,
Dr Pekar, with PekarOrthodontics.
Dr Pekar, how are you today?
Speaker 3 (00:26):
I'm wonderful.
How are you, Sophia?
Speaker 2 (00:29):
I'm also doing
wonderful.
Thank you for asking.
Now we are excited to learn allabout you and your business.
Can you start by telling ourlisteners just a little bit
about your company?
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Yes, of course.
So I'm Dr Paykar and I have aclinic, paykar Orthodontics, in
Colleyville, texas, which isclose to DFW Airport.
Also, we have a company kind ofattached in the same building
is called Celebrace, thatprovides a new technology for
(01:05):
braces and I can explain whatCellebrace is and how it's
different with traditionalbraces.
How does that sound?
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Perfect.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Awesome.
So, basically, with traditionalbraces, your orthodontist
usually puts the brackets on theteeth and they eyeball it.
Sometimes there are somemistakes.
Orthodontist usually puts thebrackets on the teeth and they
eyeball it.
Sometimes there are somemistakes.
What we do?
We have a bonding tray that 3dprints just for you as the the
patient, that places thebrackets exactly where they need
(01:36):
to be, that they aremanufactured based on the scan
that we take from you.
Also, the brackets that we thatwe make, they are custom 3D
printed and we place themexactly fit to your teeth,
because different people havedifferent morphology of teeth,
so sometimes brackets break andthat delays the treatment.
(02:00):
But with this, the custom fithelps to make the treatment more
smooth and the fractures,debonds decrease.
The other thing is the wire thatwe have.
It's a custom wire as opposedto like traditional braces that
(02:21):
the wires are one size fits all.
For us, the wires are adjustedto you.
For example, it depends on yourethnicity.
If your ethnicity is likeAfrican-American, you need
higher forces.
If you're male, you need higherforces.
Depending on your age, theforce changes and this is the
(02:42):
technology that we have and wemanufacture that in Colleyville
in Texas and we use the sameproduct in our clinic Paycard
Orthodontics and they are kindof next to each other.
So basically that was a quicksummary of Celebrase and Paycard
Orthodontics.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Now, how did you get
started with both of these
businesses?
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Yeah, so I am an
orthodontist and also because I
loved physics, I did my master'sdegree in quantum mechanics and
condensed matter and also myPhD in biomechanics.
So a combination of these twohelped me to come up with this
idea of Cellobrace, thatbasically we customize the
(03:32):
braces for each patient.
You know, going to clinic andseeing patients is obviously,
obviously this is the fun partfor me, and also creating this
technology.
Cellobrace is another fun, thatthey kind of complement each
other and I think for eachtechnology the best is that you
(03:53):
are kind of the customer of thattechnology so you can kind of
improve that technology as well.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Now, what is the most
common myth or misconception
you come across in your industry?
Speaker 3 (04:10):
You know in the
industry.
Sometimes maybe you know likealigners could be like a
misconception that they aregreat for a lot of different
cases.
But sometimes if the complianceof the patient is not good,
that's not a good option, because aligners are as good as
(04:31):
how many hours you wear them.
So, for example, if a teenagerdoesn't wear the aligners, it's
not going to be a good option.
So sometimes there is a myththat you know aligners can treat
all the patients, but that'snot the reality.
So sometimes you need a fixeddevice that you don't have the
option to remove it.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Now we know marketing
is the heart of every business.
How do you currently marketyour business?
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Actually, for the
Paycard orthodontics, we are
connected to some schoolslocally so we talk to them and
we try to support them, theirsports, and I think that has
helped us to increase theawareness about our clinic and
also, you know, there are likelocal businesses in our area
(05:22):
that we try to support them.
I think that's another avenueof increase the awareness about
Pekar orthodontics.
So I think these are themarketing routes that we have
gone and we are pretty happyabout it so far.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Now, who are your
target?
Customers or patients?
Speaker 3 (05:45):
So you know, like for
orthodontics, the youngest is
when you are seven years old,the oldest.
There is no limit.
Actually, my oldest patientcurrently is 89 years old.
My oldest patient currently is89 years old.
So there is no limit for theage.
(06:05):
But ideal treatment time fororthodontics is when you're
about like 11, 12, 11, 12, 13years old.
That's the ideal time.
Some interventions need to bedone earlier when you earlier,
when the patient is 7, 8, 9.
(06:26):
But majority of patients iswhen they are 10, 11, 12.
So who is our customers?
Usually moms are the ones whodecide.
I don't know how that works.
That dads apparently doesn'tdecide.
So our audience is moms whohave patients who have kids that
they are 10, 11, 12.
(06:47):
So, basically, obviously somedads are very involved in the
orthodontic treatment of thekids too, but what I see is that
mostly moms are the decisionmakers here.
So there are customers andobviously patients.
Kids are our indirect customers.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
So, Dr Pekar, have
you ever thought of having your
own podcast?
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Not really, actually,
I haven't thought about it.
And to be, honest, I'm runningthese two businesses,
Bekartnotics and Celebrace.
I think that's good enough.
So I would say, Sofia, youshould take that task.
I let you do that.
So I do my job and you do yourjob that you're best at.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Now, outside of work,
what do you like to do for fun?
Speaker 3 (07:44):
I like watching
movies, I like hiking and
sometimes I go lecture inconferences and you know when I
go on and I enjoy going on thosetrips.
So I would say these are my funactivities.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
And what is one thing
you would like our listeners
today to take away from PicardOrthodontics?
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Yeah, sure.
So everything is improving.
Technology is coming and youknow AI is a buzzword, but also
it's a reality of our world.
And at Picard Orthodontics weare presenting this new
technology and I'm hoping thatour audience hear about this and
(08:42):
come visit us and use thecutting edge technology to
improve their smile.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Well, Dr Picard, I
really appreciate you being on
the show.
We wish you and your businessthe best moving forward.
