What makes Dr. Genine with PetVet365 a good neighbor?

Anxiety shouldn’t be the price of good pet care, and Dr. Genine is on a mission to change that. At PetVet365, she creates a fear-free certified, living-room-style veterinary experience that helps pets relax, helps people feel welcome, and helps clinicians deliver better, safer medicine. From soft rugs and pheromones to treats and species-specific suites, she shows how thoughtful environment design and behavioral science make wellness visits, vaccines, and dental cleanings smoother and more effective.

Dr. Genine also clears up some of the biggest myths that hold pet parents back—especially the idea that pets only need a vet when they’re sick. She maps out a simple, practical schedule by life stage: frequent visits for puppies and kittens during their vaccine series, annual wellness for healthy adults, and increased monitoring for seniors after age seven. You’ll hear why dental care can’t wait, how calm patients get more accurate exams, and how reducing stress for owners is just as important as reducing stress for pets. Her comfort-first approach not only improves medical outcomes but strengthens community trust and keeps families engaged in lifelong pet health.

Beyond the exam room, she shares real-world strategies for marketing a neighborhood practice—word of mouth, partnerships with groomers and boarders, and telemedicine to meet pet parents where they are. Her core message is simple: fear-free isn’t a trend; it’s a standard that transforms outcomes.

SPEAKER_01 (00:00):
This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place
where local businesses andneighbors come together.
Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

SPEAKER_02 (00:10):
Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast.
Are you in need of aveterinarian?
Well, one maybe closer than youthink.
Today I have the pleasure ofintroducing your good neighbor,
Dr.
Janine, with PetVet365.
Dr.
Janine, how are you today?

SPEAKER_00 (00:25):
I'm doing great, Sophia.
How are you?

SPEAKER_02 (00:27):
I am also doing great.
Now we're excited to learn allabout you and your business.
Can you start off by telling ourlisteners just a little bit
about your company?

SPEAKER_00 (00:36):
Well, Pet Vet 365 is one of the first 100% fear-free
certified veterinary hospitals.
Our main focus is to reduceanxiety, not only just for your
fur baby, but for you as well,so that you can bring your fur
baby to the veterinarian.
Our living room style setup istotally different from a regular
vet hospital.
They love it the minute theywalk in the door, and I

(00:56):
guarantee that you will too.

SPEAKER_02 (01:00):
Wow.
So with all this comfort in mindfor your veterinaria practice,
how did you originally get intothis business?

SPEAKER_00 (01:08):
Well, I've been practicing for 18 years.
And so I've certainly startedoff from being just in private
practices.
I worked for corporations.
I actually did some research aswell, and then got into owning
my own hospital.
And so what I wanted to dodifferently was make sure that
it is a place not for just thepet to come and wants to come,
but it's a place where peoplefeel comfortable bringing their

(01:29):
pet to.
And so with this company, andtheir focus is making sure that
everyone's fear and anxiety iscompletely reduced and we want
to actually visit our doctor.
Doctors can be scary, right?
So if our pets, which can't talkto us, and believe me, they are
talking, just not in English.
Um, if they don't want to go tothe doctor, then you don't want
to take them.
So with the way we've decoratedour hospitals, every suite is a

(01:53):
dog or cat suite.
It's set up like they'revisiting their pet parent's
friend.
We've got pheromones in theroom, we've got treats, because
who doesn't love to eat thatreleases their endorphins,
right?
We've got the TV that's relaxingin their form.
They've got a couch to jump on.
Hopefully they don't take onmany bad habits and then start
jumping on your couches.
But there are things that makethem feel comforted.

(02:13):
And there's rugs, things thatare soft in the room.
We can even treat the patient inthe room right next to the owner
most times because they justfeel at home.

SPEAKER_02 (02:22):
Wow, Dr.
Janine.
Now, where does your heart forrunning a company of this style
come from?

SPEAKER_00 (02:29):
Well, of course, I've got some fur babies in my
home.
Uh, and I always wanted to makesure that they felt comfortable,
like if they were in theirhouse, if they were to go to the
vet.
It's a little different when youhave your own fur babies, right?
Because we try to do our owntreatment in our home and we
think that, you know, that'sgoing to be where they should
have their treatment becauseit's comfortable comfortable.
But why can't a hospital fitlike that?

(02:50):
Uh, and so that was thebackstory to making sure that if
I own my own hospital that I gotwith the company that actually
provided that what's called afear-free setting.
I know that term is not normalas far as understanding what
that means when we have afear-free certified hospital,
but it plain and simply means weare reducing anxiety for
everybody.

(03:11):
And stress-free is something Iknow everybody knows.

SPEAKER_02 (03:15):
Oh, yes.
Now, what is the main myth ormisconception you come across on
the day-to-day in your industry?

SPEAKER_00 (03:23):
Well, some of the misconceptions are that dogs or
cats may not need to go into thevet until they're sick.
And just like us, we've got tohave our checkups yearly.
We've got to get our teethclean, for example, twice a
year.
Uh, and that's with all thebrushing and the flossing and
things that we do on ourselves.
Now, your pets aren't gonna letyou brush twice a day.

(03:43):
They're not gonna let you flosstheir teeth.
So the misconception is thateven though they have teeth,
they don't need to go get theirteeth clean or they don't need
their annual checkups or twice ayear checkups, and they actually
do.
Uh, and so my goal is to makethose checkups when they're sick
or when they're healthy, again,stress-free for you and for your
fur baby.
And I want to make sure that youremember this hospital versus

(04:05):
any other hospital.
It's gonna be completelydifferent.

SPEAKER_02 (04:08):
Now, Dr.
Janine, does the frequency ofhow often the pets need to go to
the vet or go to the hospitalchange based on the type of
breed?

SPEAKER_00 (04:19):
Breed, no, not exactly.
I would say more so it's relatedto their life stage.
So certainly we see puppies orkittens, like we would see
babies often, right?
They come in, they get theirvaccines, then they get their
booster vaccinations.
So we see those kiddos a lotmore often.
When they get to be adults, which is about between the year
one and seven, we don't see themas much, but they still need at

(04:40):
least an annual checkup.
Certainly, if they've eatensomething in the backyard they
shouldn't have, they'll come ina more a bit more often.
But then when we see them againas seniors after the age of
seven, they come in oftenbecause their life stage is
different.
Things don't work as great asthey did when they were younger.
So I would say it's more sobased off of the stage of life
versus the breed.

SPEAKER_02 (05:00):
Now, switching gears for a second, we know marketing
is the heart of every business.
Who are your target customers oraudience?
And in terms of marketing, howdo you attract them?

SPEAKER_00 (05:11):
That's a hard question because this is one
thing they don't teach you invet school.
Um, it's it's about grassrootsefforts, things like this,
talking to your neighborsthrough podcasts.
And I will say, veterinarymedicine had to really get down
with telemedicine during thepandemic because it's just more
of a word-of-mouth profession.
So it's a lot of making sure wemake the connections even
through virtual ways.

(05:31):
So I get out, whether it's inthe street walking to talk to my
partners, groomers, boarders, anyone else that owns a pet,
loves a pet, or likes a pet.
Um, that's that's my connection.
That's my target audience.
And so at some point, even ifyou don't have a pet now, you
might want a pet.
Um, you might have seen someonewith their pet and saw that
interaction and said, hey, that's something that I would

(05:52):
like to have.
So there are people that may nothave a pet that want a pet.
All of the ones that I see in myeveryday walk are my target
audience.
Now, the marketing strategy, like I said, it gets really
creative.
It can be a number of ways.
I just make sure I'm open totrying them all.

SPEAKER_02 (06:09):
Now, have you ever thought about having your own
podcast?

SPEAKER_00 (06:14):
I have not.
Uh, I have been on severaldifferent ways, of course,
throughout my career.
I've talked to people aboutmentoring students, talking
about vet medicine as a whole,uh, talking about what things to
do with your pets and what notto, things around the holidays,
but I've never actually tried tohost my own.
I'll have to probably figure outif that's something I end up
doing at another phase of mylife.
I'm always changing gears.
