What makes Brandon Pedro with PCoco Dog Grooming a good neighbor?

A great groom should feel like care, not combat. Brandon Pedro of PCoco Dog Grooming joins us to share how a calm, training-informed approach turns anxious visits into positive routines—and why grooming is as much about health as it is about style. From nail trims that protect joints to ear cleaning that prevents infections, we unpack the essential maintenance many pet parents overlook and offer a kinder path forward for nervous pups and rescues.

Brandon walks us through PCoco’s family story, including how his grandmother inspired the name and how working alongside his father shaped a culture built on patience, respect, and clear communication. We dig into the biggest myths—like “some breeds are just hard to groom”—and redirect the focus to past experiences, slow desensitization, and reading canine body language. Expect practical insights on easing nail-trim trauma, pacing first-time puppy grooms, and building consistency that results in safer, faster sessions over time.

We also explore how PCoco’s marketing strategy fuels community impact. Brandon shares his blueprint for storytelling on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook: show the process, teach the why, and invite questions. That transparency turns comments and DMs into bookings and transforms short clips into trust. He’s eyeing a future podcast and book once the audience scales, all in service of a bigger mission—uniting owners, groomers, rescues, and vets to raise standards and make compassionate care the norm.

If you want a healthier, calmer grooming routine for your dog—and a blueprint for how authentic content can grow a local business—you’ll love this one. Subscribe, share with a fellow dog parent, and leave a review to help more neighbors discover the show.

SPEAKER_01 (00:00):
This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place
where local businesses andneighbors come together.
Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

SPEAKER_02 (00:10):
Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast.
Are you in need of a doggrooming company?
Well, one may be closer than youthink.
Today, I have the pleasure ofintroducing your good neighbor,
Brandon Pedro with Picoco DogGrooming.
Brandon, how are you today?

SPEAKER_00 (00:26):
I'm doing fantastic.
It's a pleasure to be here.

SPEAKER_02 (00:29):
Yes, it is a pleasure to have you on.
Now we're excited to learn allabout you and your business.
Can you start off by telling ourlisteners just a little bit
about your company?

SPEAKER_00 (00:39):
Yeah, so we're pretty much a dog grooming salon
where we only specifically groomdogs for a living.
And we basically do everythingto pamper up your furry friends,
such as your nail trimming, yourear cleaning, the bath, and
everything.
So pretty much a facility thattakes good care of your dogs
looking freshened up and clean.

SPEAKER_02 (00:58):
Amazing.
Now, what made you decide to gointo an industry like this?

SPEAKER_00 (01:05):
So that's a very interesting answer to a question
to actually answer.
Um, I basically recently startedwith this industry as a bather
at this uh other groomingfacility out there in Frisco,
and I pretty much fell in lovewith it, just bathing dogs all

(01:26):
day and just interactions withall dogs and clients coming in.
And then after that, I was justlike there with my dad as well,
because during the time my dadwas working with me as well, and
we just like encouragedly justsaid, like, hey, like let's just
do something for ourselves, likewe can try to find out a way to

(01:48):
invest in something on ourselvesin our future, and this is also
our passion, too, when it comesto dogs.
And then from there, we're justlike, you know what, let's start
hunting for properties or anyshops out there that we can
lease up, and then from there,we just thankfully found Copel,
Texas, and from there we openedup Picoko.

(02:09):
And the reason why it's calledPicoco is because our
grandmother in that time she wasvisiting me, and it was my first
time meeting her, and her nameis actually Coco, so I just got
the inspiration.
So I got the inspiration fromthat, and then just decided to
name it Picoco, and that'seventually it just became
history, just opening up PicoBloggrooming.

SPEAKER_02 (02:31):
Oh, well, what a touching story.
Now we know that in thisindustry there's probably quite
a few myths and misconceptions.
Can you start off by naming oneor two of them?

SPEAKER_00 (02:45):
Yeah, um let me see.
Cause there's several that I dowant to point out.
Uh well the grooming itself, onebig misconception is that
grooming is just about makingthe dog look cute.

(03:08):
So in reality, grooming isessential for a dog's health,
actually.
We can talk about the looks andeverything all day, but it's
really more about themaintenance and their health.
Um, because I just it can bethings that you could be taking
care of, like their uh hairconditions, their skin
conditions, and pretty muchgrooming helps a lot with your

(03:30):
dog's health.
And then the other uh thing thatwe also want to mention is the
dog's experience, is anothercommon myth is that dogs hate
going to the groomers, which istrue, but most dogs just haven't
found or haven't had the rightexperience when they're pretty

(03:51):
much treated with patience, love, and consistency.
They actually start to enjoy it,and that's something that we
focus a lot here at P Cogo LaGrooming.

SPEAKER_02 (04:01):
Oh, so the dogs just want a little love, then they
do.

SPEAKER_00 (04:05):
It's just a lot of patience and a lot of like dog
psychology at the same time aswell.
You gotta understand whatthey're comfortable with and
what they're not, and once youfind out what they're not
comfortable, then you slowlylike teach them how to like
adapt and get used to it.
Because, like I said, from pastexperiences where I used to

(04:27):
work, they didn't theymistreated the dogs and forced
them to do things that theyweren't comfortable with, so
with that, you just gotta slowlybe patient and teach them
slowly, and that's what we'rereally good at with our team
because we're also trainedtraining dogs.
Um, we've been with dogs forpretty much our whole lives, and

(04:48):
so that's what really benefitsthe dogs that come in.

SPEAKER_02 (04:52):
Now, switching gears for a second, Brandon, we know
marketing is the heart of everybusiness.
Who are your target customers ordog breeds?
And in terms of marketing, howdo you attract them?

SPEAKER_00 (05:08):
Uh, I love that question.
Okay, that's that's my strengthright there in marketing.
Um, but pretty much we targetany dog parents out there, any
pet owners in general.
It doesn't matter about the dogbreeds, you know, there's that
saying about pet bulls,Rodweilers, and all these
dominant dog breeds.

(05:31):
They are dominant, they areaggressive, but any dog is
aggressive out there in general.
But we don't target specific dogbreeds, we always focus on any
kind of dogs.
And after all, when it comes tomarketing and getting people, at
least just people just lookingat your own accounts and
marketing.
Um, pretty much is social mediaright now, because social media

(05:53):
is literally dominating rightnow, and this whole algorithm is
growing for small creators likeus.
Um pretty much we've been sortof hopping on this like niche of
like storytelling and alsogiving away behind the scenes of
what it really is operating thebusiness and also educating

(06:15):
people about dog specificallywhen it comes to art industry.
Uh, and if you just storytellpeople, you just gain people's
trust in the social media side, and that's what we've been
experiencing a lot.
Like, of course, the numbers aregrowing when it comes to
followers, views, andeverything.
But when you get when I hop onmy DMs and also comments or even

(06:37):
emails, people are alreadybooking or interested to book
with us, and also the support aswell.
Like I said in the comments, people are just commenting,
like, oh wow, this is veryhelpful for my dog.
Where is this place?
And it's just that kind of nichethat you get yourself into,
storytelling your videos, isreally gonna get your foot out

(06:58):
there.
And I just always encouragebusiness owners or dog groomers
or anyone in general who wantsto hop on marketing this to
start posting because, like Isaid, the algorithm is up there,
it's like so it's really easynow for us small creators to
grow more as well.

SPEAKER_02 (07:18):
Now, in terms of getting out there to your
audience, have you ever thoughtof having your own podcast?

SPEAKER_00 (07:26):
Wow, I love that.
Uh, I do think of opening up apodcast of my own self.
Um, but my goal is is to gainmore more audience in my
personal and the P Coco accountto grow a bigger audience, and

(07:49):
then eventually, once I have ahuge audience, then eventually I
can start opening up a podcastor even write my own book.
Um, because that way I alreadyhave people waiting for me or
people seeking for more contentfor me when it comes to these
long-term podcasts versus justone like a 30 to one minute clip

(08:09):
on Instagram.
So, yeah, I am planning on doingthat more in the future once I
build a bigger audience.

SPEAKER_02 (08:17):
Now, what is one thing you would like our
listeners to take away todayfrom learning about P Koko dog
grooming?

SPEAKER_00 (08:26):
One thing.
Let's see.
I want to make this verymeaningful.
Um so what I want people to takeaway from Pico Blog Grooming is

(08:48):
that we're more than justgrooming salon, that we're a
story built on family, culture, and the love for dogs.
So, like pretty much every petthat walks through our doors is
treated like your own, our own.
And every client that becomespart of the Picoko family, it's
about just creating that trust, comfort, and joy in every visit.

(09:13):
And if there's also one thing Iwant to leave off to every pet
owner out there is that we'renot just focused about bringing
in Picoko like we just wanteveryone to absorb Picco.
We want to build a hugecommunity when it comes to dog
owners or pet owners that alsojoins along other organizations
out there or businesses outthere when it comes to the dog

(09:36):
industry.
That we all come in all togetherto educate and treat these dogs
what they all deserve.
And I think that's what we'remissing.
The this world is missing oflike the education side of like
how to actually properly takecare of your dog.
And so, really, that's my hugemessage right there when it
comes to people discovering usat Picoco.

SPEAKER_02 (09:59):
Well, Brandon, what our listeners really want to
know today is where can they goto learn more about Picoco Dog
Grooming?

SPEAKER_00 (10:07):
They can go through our website at
peacocodoggrooming.com, andwhere you get more information,
more content, more education, and more entertainment is
through our Instagram, uh,Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok
platforms.
Um, we're pretty much postingall the more main social media

(10:28):
content platforms out there, andyou can check us out there to
learn more about us.
And soon you can also become aPicoco family member as well.

SPEAKER_02 (10:38):
Awesome, Brandon.
One final question for youtoday.
When it comes to dog grooming, are there certain breeds that
are harder to groom than others, like Pomeranians, for example?

SPEAKER_00 (10:50):
Um, no, there's actually none.
Everyone, it's just it's notwhen it comes to dog breed.
I think when it comes to theirexperience, their past
experience.
So it could be differentscenarios.
It can be like a puppy that hasno idea what's going on, and
it's their first time, thenyou're 50-50 saying, guessing
that he'll he or she will behavegood, or he or she will be

(11:14):
absolutely like having troublelike getting used to it.
But there's some dogs who arerescued animals or just have
trauma from their pastexperiences that they'll have a
hard time with you, just likeadapting or getting used to.
For example, getting their nailstrimmed.
That's the number one thingwhere dogs get traumatized, but

(11:34):
it's really just by theirexperience, not by their dog
breed or what kind of dog.
Um yeah, what kind of dog breedthey are.

SPEAKER_02 (11:43):
Well, Brandon, I really appreciate you being on
the show today.
We wish you and your businessthe best moving forward.
