What makes Jason Harvey with Triple H Outdoor a good neighbor?

What happens when a landscaping couple gets tired of long repair waits and big bills? They build the shop they always needed. We sit down with Jason Harvey of Triple H Outdoor to unpack how a hands-on, small engine repair business can transform downtime into dependable uptime for homeowners and pros alike. From the early days in Waco to a strategic move to Dallas, Jason traces the decisions that shaped a service model built around speed, certified expertise, and neighborly honesty.

Jason explains why so many “dead” mowers and generators are victims of storage habits and ethanol-laced fuel, not fatal engine failure. He breaks down simple, preventative steps—draining tanks, using stabilizer, running machines dry—that keep carburetors clean and engines ready. We also get into how Triple H Outdoor stocks common parts, earns certifications on brands like Kawasaki, and sets clear expectations so customers see their gear back in days, not weeks. For commercial landscapers, that time saved protects schedules and payroll. For homeowners, it means confidence before the first mow of the season.

Marketing gets practical here too. Heather leads with social content that teaches quick diagnostics and seasonal maintenance, while the team uses mailers and direct outreach to reach crews who need reliable turnarounds. Underneath it all is a straightforward philosophy: fair pricing, fast fixes, and service that helps people get back to work. If you’ve ever rolled a stubborn mower into the garage and assumed the worst, this conversation will change how you prep, store, and service your small engines.

SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place
where local businesses andneighbors come together.
Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

SPEAKER_01 (00:10):
Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast.
Are you in need of a smallengine and repair shop?
Well, one might be closer thanyou think.
Today I have the pleasure ofintroducing your good neighbor,
Jason Harvey, with Triple HOutdoor.
Jason, how are you today?

SPEAKER_02 (00:25):
Good.
How are you?

SPEAKER_01 (00:27):
Good.
Well, we are excited to learnall about you and your business.
Can you start off by telling usjust a little bit about your
company and how you got started?

SPEAKER_02 (00:36):
Sure.
We uh my wife and I have alandscape company we've had for
a little over 20 years.
And I just really got tired ofspending the money that we had
to spend at shops to get thingsrepaired.
So we decided to go ahead andstart our own shop.
We got listed with severalvendors.
We're certified with likeKawasaki.
We sell new equipment, we repairequipment, anything from

(00:58):
lawnmowers, generators, welders, pressure washers, anything you
can think of.
And it was just we just did itso that it would save us money
and then give us the ability toexpand our other businesses.

SPEAKER_01 (01:11):
So, Jason, where is your partner in crime today?

SPEAKER_02 (01:15):
I think she's in the other room.
I think she's on a Zoom or apodcast as well.

SPEAKER_01 (01:22):
And what made you both want to start a landscape
company of all companies?

SPEAKER_02 (01:29):
Um, about like I said, a little over 20 years
ago, we were in the Waco areaand we started the landscape
business.
And then we had the opportunityto expand up to the Metroplex.
And so we were traveling up hereevery week and staying in a
hotel and then going back, youknow, quote unquote home on the

(01:50):
weekends.
And finally I got to the pointthat I told Heather, I said, you
know, it's gonna be a whole loteasier for us to run Waco from
Dallas than it is to run Dallasfrom Waco.
So in 2012, we moved up here andwe were here about six months.
And I said, We're gonna leteverything in Waco go.
Let's just focus on Dallas.

SPEAKER_01 (02:10):
And then you switched over your company to
this company.
Is that kind of how it went?

SPEAKER_02 (02:17):
Well, we still have the landscape company, it's
still in existence.
It's TGA Management Group.
We do commercial landscapeirrigation, lawn maintenance,
stuff like that, um, allexterior care.
And then a little over a yearand a half ago, actually, March,
I think is two years, we decidedto do a small engine shop.

(02:37):
I was looking for something toinvest in to start, and man, it
just went right along with ourbusiness.
So I said, you know, it makessense to do this because it's
gonna afford us the ability inour landscape company to do so
much more.

SPEAKER_01 (02:53):
Now, what is the most common myth or
misconception in the smallengine shop industry?

SPEAKER_02 (03:01):
I think the biggest thing that we see is is people
think that once you're done witha piece of equipment, just stick
it in the shed for the winter orwhatever, and you get it out the
next season and go right back towork.
But the problem is that we havesuch phenomenal gas here that it
just ruins your carburetors.

(03:21):
And that's that's the biggestthing we see is carburetor
issues.
And the biggest myth is peoplejust think that the machines are
no good anymore and takes us notvery long at all to fix that,
and they have their machine backrunning just as good as new.

SPEAKER_01 (03:37):
So, Jason, we know marketing is the heart of every
business.
Who are your target clients orcustomers or audience?
And in terms of marketing today, how do you and your wife attract
them?

SPEAKER_02 (03:50):
Uh, Heather does a lot of our social media.
Um, I'm not social media savvy,I guess you'd say.
So I let Heather deal with allthat.
She's really good at it.
Um, there's two really marketgroups for us.
It's going to be your consumeror your residential customers,
uh, homeowners, and then we haveour commercial people, the

(04:11):
landscapers that go ahead and dothis every single day.
Um, we do, like I said, a lot ofthe social media, and then we
have been experimenting withseveral different options of you
know, mailers and trying to getthe commercial guys to know that
we're there and that we'reavailable for them.

SPEAKER_01 (04:32):
Now, have you both ever thought of having your own
podcast for the business before?

SPEAKER_02 (04:38):
Uh no, I haven't.
I've been on a couple that we'vetalked about what we do.
Um yeah, that might be somethingHeather would be interested in,
not me.
I'm fine just talking withpeople like you guys.

SPEAKER_01 (04:53):
Now, outside of work, what do you and your
family like to do for fun?

SPEAKER_02 (05:00):
Man, that's just a uh that's a wide range of
answers that I could give.
My biggest thing is I reallydon't care what I'm doing.
If I'm not working, I want tospend time with my wife, my two
bodies.
So I don't care if we're at homecooking and grilling or if we're
out shopping or whatever.
It just doesn't matter to me.
As long as I'm spending timewith them, I'm happy.

SPEAKER_01 (05:22):
Oh now, please tell our listeners one thing they
should remember today aboutTriple H outdoor.

SPEAKER_02 (05:31):
Biggest thing I want people to remember is that what
we do is not rocket science,it's it's not something that you
should have to wait a long timefor.
My shop is really set up to bedifferent from all the other
shops.
I don't want a customer to evercome into my shop and I tell
them, oh, it'll be two or threeweeks.

(05:51):
Typically a day or two, and I'vegot somebody's equipment back to
them just because I want to getit fixed, get it back in their
hands, and get them back to workwith it.

SPEAKER_01 (06:00):
Jason, is that the biggest thing that makes your
company stand out from others?

SPEAKER_02 (06:04):
I think so.
Um, you know, we try to standapart to let everybody know
that, you know, I'm I'm nottrying to do huge markups on
parts, and I'm not trying tobecome this billionaire out
here.
I'm out here trying to helppeople and get their get their
equipment back to them, sellthem equipment if that's what we

(06:26):
need, if that's what they need.
Um I'm just here to to be a helpto everybody that can come
through our door.

SPEAKER_01 (06:38):
And where can our listeners go to learn more about
Triple H outdoor?

SPEAKER_02 (06:43):
They can go to our website.
Um all of our information is onour website, and then if they're
in the area, we're located in ashopping center right outside of
or right downtown of Mansfield.

SPEAKER_01 (06:59):

the show today.
We wish you and your businessthe best moving forward.

SPEAKER_02 (07:05):
