What makes Jaime Chavez with Ambiance Entertainment LLC a good neighbor?

What if your wedding didn’t just look perfect, but actually felt perfect—moment to moment, from the welcome to the last dance? That’s the heart of our conversation with Jaime Chavez of Ambiance Entertainment, a bilingual Dallas DJ and master of ceremonies with forty years of experience and a rare blend of technical rigor and human warmth.

We dive into Jaime’s unlikely path from IBM and AT&T engineering to full-time entertainment, guided by faith and a commitment to serve couples with care. He breaks down why a great DJ is never “just a playlist,” revealing the four pillars of his craft: precise mixing, thoughtful MC work, genuine entertainment, and seamless collaboration with planners and vendors. You’ll hear how he personalizes timelines and transitions, reads the room in real time, and strikes the balance that makes guests laugh, cry, and dance without turning the night into a show about the DJ.

Jaime also shares his vision for the future: building AI tools for the DJ industry that support preparation and logistics while preserving the irreplaceable human skill of sensing energy and telling a story with music. We talk ideal clients, cultural mixing, first-dance strategy, and why the best celebrations center presence over spectacle. Most of all, Jaime returns to a single promise—care. He insists no one will care about a couple’s experience more than they do, except him, and he backs that up with white-glove prep and intentional hosting.

If you’re planning a wedding or curious about what separates a true professional from a playlist, this conversation will sharpen your eye and calm your nerves. Subscribe for more local stories, share this with a friend who’s engaged, and leave a review to tell us the one song you’d trust to fill the dance floor.

SPEAKER_01 (00:00):
This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place
where local businesses andneighbors come together.
Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.

SPEAKER_00 (00:10):
Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast.
Are you in need of a DJ?
Well, one may be closer than youthink.
Today I have the pleasure ofintroducing your good neighbor,
Jaime Chavez with AmbianceEntertainment.
Jaime, how are you today?

SPEAKER_02 (00:25):
I'm doing very well.
How are you doing?

SPEAKER_00 (00:28):
I'm good.
Well, we are excited to learnall about you and your business.
Can you start out by telling usa little bit about your company?

SPEAKER_02 (00:35):
So my company is Ambiance Entertainment.
I actually started DJing 40years ago.
How old are you, Sophia?

SPEAKER_00 (00:44):
Never ask a woman here.

SPEAKER_02 (00:45):
Never ask a female, right?
So I've actually been a DJ for40 years this year, so I'm
pretty excited.
Uh, I think the last 21, 22years, I've been full-time here
in Dallas.
Uh I always joke and I say Isidelined as an electrical
engineer for 22 years.
So I'm a former IBM ATT uhengineer, but now I've been a

(01:07):
full-time DJ 22 years, but atotal of 40 years that I've been
DJing.

SPEAKER_00 (01:12):
Wow.
Now, how in the world did youjump into the DJ business?

SPEAKER_02 (01:17):
So I literally had a dream when I was like 15 years
old.
I had a dream that I was DJingfor our most popular high school
dance.
And we used to have high schooldances in San Antonio every
month.
So I had a dream that I saw aposter board, like we used to
advertise everything in highschool, that talked about our
dance, and then it said DJ JaimeChavez, right?

(01:41):
And it's read Sphinx MusicMobile.
So here's a little weirdtangent, right?
I've always liked Egyptology.
So in my dream, it read SphinxMusic Mobile.
So that's what I actually calledthis business when I was 15
years old.

SPEAKER_00 (01:59):
Wow.
Now I must ask you, did you praybefore you had this dream?

SPEAKER_02 (02:04):
It's crazy that you asked that question.
I'm very interested while youasked that question.
But I think a lot of my life,I'm a very, very heavily
faith-oriented person.
And just about everything that'shappened into my life has been
revealed to me or somethingalong those lines.
And I've actually studied that alot.
I'm very active in the church, blah, blah, blah, all that kind
of stuff.
But all of the moves in my lifehave happened with through my

(02:28):
faith.
Like when I left corporateAmerica, I was literally, I have
received communion.
I went to the back of the churchand I was praying.
And we had just heard about theparting of the seas.
And as I was praying, I heardlike, hey, go in the most
unlikely direction.

(02:49):
So picture if you were beingchased by an army, would you go
straight to the ocean where youdon't have any other place to
go?
Or would you run into themountains, trap yourself in
there, right?
Uh try to hide in a cave, hidein a tree or something.
They ran straight towards theocean.
But if you go there with allyour faith, you're gonna see

(03:10):
that something is going to openup for you.
And once I had that dream, Iactually left a very successful
engineering career.
Uh, to I I didn't know I wasgonna become a DJ, but that
wouldn't follow.
So, but it's interesting.
Why did you ask about faith?
I love that.

SPEAKER_00 (03:29):
Because everything that I do, I base off the
foundation that God has broughtme up with.
Now, I would love to go deeperinto this, but I know we have to
get to the roots of yourbusiness.
So, what is the most common mythor misconception in your
industry?

SPEAKER_02 (03:47):
So, so I think most people think like, yeah, I think
when iPods and iPhones came out,all that kind of stuff, people
decided, oh, we'll have our ownwedding and we'll just use our
phone, we'll put an iPod on.
But the notion of anybody canpush a button, right?
Anyone can build a playlist, that's kind of a misconception

(04:09):
that most people have.
But when you start to look at itfrom a more tenured perspective,
I look at it like a quadrant ofthings.
I'm a professional DJ, first andforemost, I'm a professional
master of ceremonies, I'm aprofessional entertainer, right?
And I'm kind of a like acoordinator, not like a wedding
coordinator, but more like ateam player.

(04:32):
And I think about personalizingyour wedding, I think about
music for your wedding, I thinkabout entertainment for your
wedding, and I think about theitinerary.
So it's a lot more sophisticatedthan just showing up and
pressing a button so that peoplecan dance.

SPEAKER_00 (04:50):
Amen.
Well, I think definitely whenyou're walking in your purpose,
which it sounds like you are,God will always back up his
plan.

SPEAKER_02 (04:58):
Another misconception is that when
people call a DJ to hire a DJ, Ithink DJs think that the
prospective client wants to hearabout them.
But what they really want toknow is how you are gonna be the
person who is not going to ruintheir wedding, how you're gonna

(05:19):
be the person who's gonnafulfill all the things that they
need.
So a typical DJ is just gonnatry to sell themselves and years
of experience and equipment andlighting and all these other
things.
But what they really want is thepeace of mind that somebody's
gonna create an experience oftheir lives that they'll never
forget.

SPEAKER_00 (05:38):
Most definitely.
Now we know marketing is theheart of every business.
Who are your target clients, customers, or audience?
And in terms of marketing today, how do you attract them?

SPEAKER_02 (05:53):
So I think my ideal client is a person who is very
well adjusted.
I want a DJ for weddings that Ibelieve in, right?
People who are truly in love, people who want to celebrate
their lives, they want tocelebrate their families, they
want to celebrate all thesethings.
And they are confident, they'reopen, they're vulnerable, and

(06:14):
we're gonna share stories andwe're going to joke and we're
gonna say really sweet andsentimental things because if
you can make people laugh andcry at their wedding or any
event, you've had a very, verysuccessful day.
So uh my ideal client is thattype of person, not the person
who wants a big show, right?
A lot of people want the bigwow, I want everyone to look at

(06:38):
how beautiful my wedding was.
I want the client whounderstands or has an idea what
they want their wedding to be.
So it's about being present,it's about being in love,
activating love, creatingemotional connection.

SPEAKER_00 (06:55):
Most definitely, most definitely.
And I think being a part of thatis must be such a powerful
experience.

SPEAKER_02 (07:04):
It is truly an honor to DJ for people, and I believe
that if my clients are amazing,God wants them to have an
amazing wedding, and Godhappened to choose me to be at
their amazing wedding so that Ihave nothing to worry about
because He's He's in charge.

SPEAKER_00 (07:23):
Well, and your wedding should be enjoyable.
I mean, ideally speaking, itshould only be once, and it
should be with the person youwant to spend the rest of your
life with.

SPEAKER_02 (07:33):
Yes, a hundred percent.

SPEAKER_00 (07:36):
Now, switching gears a bit here, Jaime, have you ever
thought about having your ownpodcast?

SPEAKER_02 (07:43):
Oh, I have.
I have.
It's just a lot of work, but I'mallocating time right now
because I'm actually buildingartificial intelligence for the
DJ industry.
So that's where a lot of myfocus is, and a podcast would
just require a lot of time.
So thank you, Sophia, for havingme on your good neighbor
podcast.

SPEAKER_00 (08:03):
Now, please tell our listeners one thing they should
remember about AmbianceEntertainment LLC.

SPEAKER_02 (08:10):
Ambiance Entertainment.
I think the most important thingI love to tell my clients like
there's not gonna be anybody whocares about your wedding more
than you and me.
Right?
And I if I could get in front ofa stage of 10,000, 100,000 DJs,
and I could only use one word, Iwould recommend that they care.

(08:35):
So I will handle that with whitegloves if if I'm honored to be
your DJ, your MC, yourentertainer.

SPEAKER_00 (08:43):
Now, where can our listeners go to learn more about
Ambiance Entertainment?

SPEAKER_02 (08:49):
Well, they can find me on Instagram, Facebook,
WeddingWire.
Go down the list.
If they look up bilingual DJDallas, you'll probably see
about 10 different places tofind me.
But uh, I can be pretty easilyfound.

SPEAKER_00 (09:06):
Well, Jaime, I really appreciate you being on
the show today.
We wish you and your businessthe best moving forward.
