Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Good
Neighbor Podcast, north Atlanta,
where local businesses andneighbors come together.
Here's your host, stacey Risley.
Hello, friends and neighbors, welcome to North Atlanta's Good
Neighbor Podcast.
Today we are back in the studiowith Terri Easton.
She is a licensed estheticianand the owner of Atlanta Acne
(00:21):
Specialist and she has twolocations, one in Decatur and
one in Sandy Springs.
But like so close to Dunwoodyyou could throw a rock to it.
So Springs slash Dunwoody.
We're really happy to have youback.
Terry also is the expertcontributor for her industry for
(00:41):
the publication DunwoodyNeighbors, and she is back with
us today to talk about anarticle that is in our current
issues, our November issues, andit is about vitamin C and acne
and I think vitamin C has kindof become a little bit of a buzz
word in the beauty industry, you know, in the last few years,
and I know I've heard it a lotmore lately than than than years
(01:07):
past, and you're here to talkto us about how it it applies to
acne and how it can help.
So I'm excited that you wereable to share this article with
us and that you're willing tocome and share with our
listeners as well.
So let you take that away.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Yeah, vitamin C is a
really powerful antioxidant,
brightener, anti-ager, and welike it in conjunction.
We don't use it as apreventative for stopping acne,
but once the skin's clear itreally helps with resolving dark
marks and post-inflammatoryerythema, which is the redness
(01:49):
leftover from breakouts, andit's a really great segue into
anti-aging skincare once theskin's clear.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Yeah, because I have
started using it before, like
you said, for anti-aging.
So I love when you said in thearticle it was a powerhouse,
this powerhouse vitamin you know, has lots of multi-purposes and
good for all of us with alldifferent types of skin types to
use.
So one of the first reasons andI love that you provide the
(02:19):
science the very first part ofher article, if you're listening
starts with the science behindvitamin C and acne, and I love
that.
I love science.
You know, based, evidence basedmedicine and we're getting into
.
Let us know, Tell me why itworks, because that's always
what I want to know and thensometimes that sells me and is
completely changing everything.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Vitamin C is just
like I said it's a great
powerhouse antioxidant.
So antioxidants give one oftheir extra, you know, and I'm
going to mess up the actualscience electrons to a free
radical.
That is missing.
So that's how it kind ofreduces that anti-aging or
(03:03):
reduces aging.
Our formula has two forms ofvitamin C sodium ascorbyl
phosphate and ethyl ascorbicacid.
So it's a little bit morestable.
And what I've learned issometimes the stronger vitamin
C's are not as stable as the theless strong, let's say, and
(03:26):
depending on what kind of baseit's in, it could be in an
alcohol base and it could be alittle bit more drying and
aggravating for the skin.
So formula is definitelyimportant.
But, yeah, not only does itreduce inflammation, it
stimulates collagen and theproteins that create the
collagen.
Like I said, it's fightingthose free radicals, brightening
(03:48):
dark spots, reducinginflammation, like it's just so
great at calming the skin, andeven some of the ingredients in
our formula actually do somehydrating as well.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Okay, and for those
of you who are listening and
don't know, at Atlanta AcneSpecialists you can purchase and
get the tailored skincaretreatment that's best for your
particular acne prone skin.
And so when I'm assuming, terry, that you're able to get
vitamin C through Atlanta acnespecialists as well, yes, yeah,
(04:22):
we have our own private linethat we I didn't formulate the
line.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
I worked with the lab
to investigate the ingredients
to make sure that it doesn'thave poor clogging ingredients
and it does have the activeingredients that we want in
there to fight acne poreclogging ingredients and it does
have the active ingredientsthat we want in there to fight
acne.
And then a colleague of minehas custom formulated some of
the products that we use and ourvitamin C is one of those.
So it's a really great formulaand, even though it's not a
(04:50):
strong vitamin C, like I said,it's a lot more stable and it
has some extra ingredients likethe peptides and mushroom
extract that are going to becalming and hydrating for the
skin.
And so, yes, if somebody isinterested in clearing their
skin and or improving, they canreach out to us and schedule a
(05:10):
consultation and we'd be tocustomize a routine for them.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Awesome and because
it really is, like you said, the
powerhouse of the vitamins andall the antioxidants and I
didn't realize, you know, I knewthat for my purposes, that it
could be used and was veryeffective with anti-aging and
some of that, you know, clearingyour skin tone, but not
necessarily acne related, butbecause I have dark pigmentation
(05:37):
, things like you know, likethat, and that has been, I've
started using it and I'm seeinga huge difference and then when
you really think about applyingthat towards acne, it does help.
All of the same things you know.
I mean, especially like thisscarring.
I know that in the article youtalked about that sometimes it
can the redness can be mistakenfor scarring and it's not actual
(05:59):
scarring, but the vitaminsworks to help help with that.
So a lot of really great usesand it makes sense that it would
also be applicable to acne.
So I know I'm happy to hear it.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
It's a really great
product for all skin anti-aging
and acne but it's a really greatconjunction type of product
that can work for both.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Yeah, and then you
said so, do you?
I know that you said that yourshas some moisturizing agents
included in that, but then doyou recommend also having a
moisturizer to use with that, oris it enough moisture?
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Yeah, I love that.
It does have some moisturizingingredients in it, so it's not
going to be super drying to theskin.
But it wouldn't be enough tonot need a moisturizer but it
wouldn't be enough to to notneed a moisturizer.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
OK, well, towards the
end of the article you talk
about how you help give usguidance on how to incorporate
vitamin C serum into our dailyroutines for skin care.
Do you want to touch on how,how to best do that?
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Absolutely so a more
sensitive skin might be.
This might be too much to startoff using right away every
single day.
So I usually have clients startoff every other morning.
They'll use one full pump andreally massage it into the whole
face, get a nice, smooth, evenlayer all over the face and neck
(07:36):
.
I actually bring mine down tothe chest too.
A colleague of mine said hergrandmother always says your
face stops at your boobs.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
I love that.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
All uniform and I'm
sure some of the listeners have
seen on Instagram where peopleuse their skincare to their
jawline and then their neckreally shows their age.
So I just bring everything downto my neck and chest when I use
it and you know you start offevery other morning, then every
morning.
Consistency is key, so you knowyou can use one bottle and
(08:11):
you'll see result, but when youuse it every single morning
consistently before yoursunscreen, you're going to start
to see more and more of achange.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Wow, and so is that
something that with vitamin C I
know sometimes you said you havethem start every other morning.
If it does, if they do havesuper sensitive skin.
Do you find that with vitamin Cthat it's tolerated by most
people?
Though if you do build up to itor gradually ease into it, I
(08:41):
guess is a better?
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Yeah, absolutely so.
Vitamin C is not as active aslike a retinol or a vitamin A
product is, but it still can bestimulating for some more
sensitive skins.
So I just always tell people tostart off every other morning
for two weeks and then then moveto every day if they happen to
start seeing, you know, someredness or um, I mean, I haven't
(09:03):
had anybody have a reaction atall to our product but, um, if
they were feeling sensitive, then I would say maybe do two
times a week, yeah, and do thatfor two weeks, and then do three
times a week, and so on and soforth yeah, well, and it's great
to know that it is widelytolerated.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
I know that I started
using it for anti-aging.
Haven't had any sort ofreaction at all, you know, other
than the stuff it's supposed tobe doing.
Well, terry, thank you so muchfor being here again with us.
I'd look forward to your nextarticle and I'm going to have to
get over there to see you atyour Dunwoody I almost called it
