This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place
where local businesses andneighbors come together.
Here's your host, YvonneGodfrey.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast.
Joining us today in our studiois Nancy Hughes.
She is a realtor at Jack ConwayRealty.
Nancy, how are you today?
Very good and yourselfWonderful.
I am great.
Thank you for asking, Nancy.

(00:31):
We are excited to have you hereand we're eager to learn more
about your service in the NorthShore community.
Can you please tell thelisteners about your service?

Speaker 3 (00:43):
I work for Jack Conway Real Estate.
It's an independently ownedcompany.
It was started in 1965 by JackConway.
Most of the offices around 30of them are on the South Shore
and we're the only office on theNorth Shore.
We're not a big nationwidecompany, but we do have all the
services that the nationwidecompanies have.
We have a marketing department.

(01:04):
We have a marketing department,we have a financing department,
we have attorneys on hand.
We can offer everything thatall of the larger companies can
offer.
And this is probably the thirdcompany I've worked for and I
just love the owners and I justthink they're a fabulous company
to work for.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Wonderful, and how did you get into this business?

Speaker 3 (01:28):
I was a teacher and I worked with someone who sold
real estate and they were goingto change the laws.
So currently you can take acourse, take a test, get your
real estate license to sell.
You're a salesperson and wayback in the 80s they would allow
you to take a test to get yourbroker's license.

(01:49):
So real estate always kind offascinated me.
I was always picking up thenewspaper, seeing what was on
the market, what sold.
So I passed and I got mybroker's license and I probably
had it for 10 years before Istarted selling.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Okay, so what are some myths or misconceptions in
your industry, nancy?

Speaker 3 (02:09):
I think a lot of people think of real estate
agents as cutthroat and it isjust so wrong.
Most of the agents of the NorthShore, even though we work for
different companies, we comeacross each other every day with
sales, with listings.
We're really a very nice groupof people and we're very nice to

(02:33):
each other and very fair.
So I think that's a realmisconception.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Wonderful and outside of work.
What do you do for fun, nancy?

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Well, I'm a former math teacher so I also tutor
math because I love it.
So that's kind of my fun, and Isuppose reading books and going
to the beach is also my fun.
It's how I decompress.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Those sound like great outlets, though.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
They are, they are.
They keep me sane.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
So changing gears.
Nancy, can you describe onehardship or one of life's
challenge that you rose aboveand can now say because of it
you're better and stronger?
What comes to your mind?

Speaker 3 (03:16):
About 34 years ago, swampscott built a playground
called Kids Cove.
It's no longer there.
It was at Phillips Park butmany people may have remembered
it and the premise of theconstruction is they send a
group to the town, they meetwith the children of the town,
they come up with a plan and adesign and they build the

(03:38):
playground over a five-dayperiod.
They have five I believe it wasfive people from the company
that designs and instruments allof this, and then they have
contractors in town who donatetheir time and, under the
contractor, volunteers.
So I volunteered to be head ofthe food committee.

(04:00):
What I did realize is I had tofeed three meals a day to 300
people, with no budget and nofacilities.
I literally had a 10 o'clocklot and this was before the
Internet and I did it.
No one wanted to be on mycommittee.
I begged.
It was quite a process to dothis and after doing it I was so

(04:25):
proud of myself.
I figured if I could do this, Icould do anything.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
That sounds great.
I'm sure those that benefitedfrom it really appreciated your
sacrifice.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Yes, yes, and you know, it was there for so many
years and my children enjoyed it, as did many children of the
community.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Beautiful Nancy.
Please tell our listeners onething they should remember about
Jack Conway Realty.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
We're right here in Swanscott, 410 Humphrey Street,
right across from the harbor.
You can stop in, you can call, you can email me, call me If
you're interested in finding outwhat the buying process is,
what the selling process is.
I'm happy to sit down and meetwith you.
No obligation, no cost.
It's a journey and most peoplethey may buy several cars in a

(05:17):
lifetime or furniture.
Many people buy two, maybethree properties in a lifetime.
So it's not a process that youdo every day and from state to
state things are different.
It's not the same.
So if you sold a house in NewYork, the process there is very
different than it is up here.
So I think my teachingbackground kind of kicks in,

(05:39):
because I enjoy helping peoplethrough a process.
I'm a great hand holder.
I like to give everyoneinformation so they know what to
expect as far as cost, theprocess etc.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Beautiful.
And how can our listeners learnmore about Jack Conway Realty
Nancy?

Speaker 3 (05:59):

the office and I'm happy to sitdown and let them know all about
our company.
