Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Good
Neighbor Podcast, the place
where local businesses andneighbors come together.
Here's your host, Lila Carter.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Welcome to the Good
Neighbor Podcast.
Are you in need of a vegan, organic body spa?
One might be closer than youthink.
Today I have the pleasure ofintroducing your good neighbor,
Wendy Neely.
With Butt Naked.
Wendy, how's it going?
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Hi, I'm doing great.
How are you doing this morning?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Excellent.
Thank you so much.
We're excited to learn allabout you and your business, so
tell us about your company, yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
So we're so excited
to be able to share this with
your community as well.
So, butt Naked, pittsburgh hasbeen in the McCandless Township
area for over 10 years.
We've been providing vegan, organic, different methods to
help heal and make people justfeel great about themselves.
We do have a tagline aroundhere.
It's whether it's your face oryour waist.
We kind of got you covered, andthat'll kind of lead me into
(01:01):
the spa services that we doprovide our community.
One of the things we like to dois have the body do what it does
so naturally itself.
When you let it do things thatit does naturally and what I
mean by that is when you don'tinterfere with chemicals and
yucky foods and preservativesthe body has an amazing way of
finding its waistline againright.
(01:22):
So when we talk about your face, we offer a plethora of
different types of organic veganfacials, from a traditional
facials all the way up to themost luxury which we do cryo
facials, which are instantaneousfacelifts.
So someone that's looking tostop using Botox or fillers as
much, that's a great alternativetoo.
(01:44):
Or if you're just really scaredof those but you're starting to
see some fine lines andwrinkles and you're wanting to
learn how to kind of get rid ofthose naturally.
A cryofacial would be for you.
We also have a full line of buttnaked skincare which is vegan,
organic, which we do shipworldwide through our website.
It's also EU compliant throughthe European nations.
(02:06):
It's the cleanest thing thatyou can put on your face.
And what's so neat about ourskincare line, our specific
brand, that it is made here inthe United States.
It's actually made in New York.
It's made in small batch, sowhat that means?
It's more result-based becauseit's more heavily concentrated
than something that you mightget in the bigger box stores
that you know.
We all know the names of thoseskincare stores that we spend
(02:28):
lots and lots of time shoppingand trying all these things on
our face with no results.
All right, wendy.
So how'd you get?
Speaker 2 (02:36):
into this business.
It's such a unique niche.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Yeah, so I've been in
the weight loss industry for
over 30 years.
I just celebrated my 30 yearanniversary, and so that's all.
I just celebrated my 30 yearanniversary and so that's all
I've done.
My whole entire life is helpingwomen find their waistlines
again.
And then three years ago, afterthe pandemic, it's kind of
where butt naked aesthetics kindof evolved through that process
(02:59):
and because we believe that youknow, the face is the first
thing that you see yourself inthe mirror every day, and
there's no worse way of startingout the day when you started
out with criticism meaning oh mygosh, look at my wrinkles this
morning, look at my bags undermy eyes, or look at my double
chin, or look at my skin, lookat my waistline I can't find
anything to wear, right?
(03:19):
So we really want to helppeople just love the body that
they're in, but give them thebest approach to be able to do
that naturally.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
I love that you said
that it truly is about
supporting the well-being andthe whole picture of how you
feel about yourselfno-transcript.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
So some myths are
it's kind of an all or nothing
approach when it comes to eatinga well-balanced food plan.
One of the things about buttnaked wellness side is that we
teach people to stop having areally toxic relationship with
foods in our weight lossaccountability sessions, meaning
that people don't evenunderstand why they're in such
(04:00):
bondage to foods and it normallycomes from things that have
happened in their past or trauma, If food is a real addiction
and people can't seem to get ridof the sugars and wanting the
cravings all the time.
But we help people navigatethrough that.
So a myth is that somebody thathas a sugar addiction can never
eat a sweet again.
(04:20):
Addiction can never eat a sweetagain.
Now you may not be able to havewhat we call like our three
trigger foods, meaning that iflike chocolate chip cookies is
like a trigger for you, what wemean by that is it's something
that you can't just have oneserving of.
It's like, before you know it,the whole bag of Chips Ahoy is
gone or the whole sleeve ofOreos is gone.
That may be a trigger food foryou, but that does not mean at a
(04:40):
birthday party if it's your mom, your grandma, your bestie's
birthday that you can't have apiece of birthday cake and still
have the waistline you want.
So we really try to help peoplenavigate those myths as to I
can only eat the keto diet or Ican only eat the big box store
program, or I have to eatprepackaged food.
That's not true or I have toeat prepackaged food.
(05:01):
That's not true.
Where the myths come in is thatyou have this unrealistic
expectation on food and what itmeans and what it does.
How many times do people say oh, I felt like that because I had
a social event coming Right.
Right, we should be able tonavigate a social situation with
(05:22):
food, and if you can't, then Iwould love an introduction to
talk to you because I cantotally help you with that.
That's amazing.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Yeah, the level of
support that you can offer
people and kind of tailor it tothem individually sounds really
special.
So who are your targetcustomers?
And how are you attracting themto the business?
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Yeah, that's a great
question.
So our joke around here iswhether you have a face or a
waist, we are interested inmeeting you, and if you know
someone with a face or a waist,we'd like to meet them, and so
that's kind of just a taglinejoke.
But our bodies are so uniqueand so individualized that I
feel like a lot of men and womenwho have been on the weight
(06:03):
loss or wellness journey findthemselves in a place to go.
Hey, you know what?
I'm 40 years old.
I'm 50 years old.
This is, I guess, just the waythat I have to be, and that's
not true.
Sometimes our bodies need alittle bit of aid and assistance
through that wellness journey, and that's why at the spa here,
we have eight different spaservices whether we need some
non-invasive body contouringmethods, because some women
(06:26):
let's be real you probablyweighed the weight that you were
very happy with, but you lookin the mirror and you're like,
yeah, but look at those danglingarms, Look at that hanging
stomach I still have.
So we offer non-invasive bodycontouring services that you can
literally come in for an hourand leave less than what you
came.
Services that you can literallycome in for an hour and leave
less than what you came.
We also host three differentinfrared saunas which are great
(06:47):
for detoxification.
You burn up to 600 calories inthat session and you get all
those free radicals and toxinsout of the body which is
preventing that metabolic systemfrom working.
We also have Pittsburgh's onlyprivate Himalayan salt room,
which is like kind of our littlesecret within the spa, because
there's hardly any private saltrooms in Pennsylvania.
(07:07):
There's a few group rooms butnot private rooms, and then when
you go over to the aestheticside, that's kind of where we
take care of your face overthere.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Excellent.
So, as you're reaching thistarget demographic, have you
ever thought about doing yourown podcast?
This target demographic haveyou ever thought about doing
your own podcast?
I'm not sure why your audio cutout and your video as well.
(07:37):
There we go.
It's okay, I'll just edit outthat little clip so we can jump
right back in.
Have you ever thought aboutdoing your own podcast?
Here we go.
(08:03):
You're you now.
Can you hear me?
Speaker 3 (08:04):
all right.
If a small call comes in, it'sgoing to bump us off, that's all
right, I can just edit out thatsection of audio for us are we
(08:35):
back on?
Yes, yep, now we're back on.
Sorry about that.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
I guess everybody's
calling to schedule an
appointment at the moment that'sa good problem to have, but
maybe not right this second, sowe can just pick up where we
left off.
Have you ever thought aboutdoing your own podcast?
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Yes, I actually have.
You know, before the pandemic Iused to do a lot of group
speakings at businesses orpeople would come to the spa and
we'd have weekly sessions in agroup style and I know one of my
spiritual gifts is groupspeaking.
So yes, I've thought about thatnow that we're kind of getting
back into the realm of somenormalcy within the spa and
(09:13):
people are looking for things todo and people love to listen to
ways to improve their bodies.
That makes logical sense.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Great Outside of work
.
What do you do for fun?
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Oh my gosh.
Well, I'm really heavilyinvolved in our church, here in
our community here in McCandless.
I have four daughters, which issuper cool.
I have two granddaughters aswell, five and soon to be three.
Her little name is ClementineBlackham.
You guys probably have heard ofher.
She's been all over the news.
We're just celebrating hertwo-year post-bone marrow
(09:48):
transplant and we're actuallyhaving a big bone and blood
marrow drive here in McCandlessTownship on July 21st.
So I spend a lot of time withmy family and a lot of times
with my Christian community whenI'm not at work.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Oh, congratulations
to your family for that.
It's amazing.
All right, so, wendy, pleasetell our listeners one thing
that they should remember aboutButt Naked.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
I think just the name
, you know, I think the name is
really catchy and kind of alittle tongue in cheek to our
people.
But what I want people to knowis that you know the body that
you're in doesn't have to be thebody that you continue to live
in, and that we really get onebody to live in.
And I think if you can justreally take all the emotional
(10:35):
stuff out and make it a littlebit more logical into the things
that you would like to achievewithin your body, that we can
make that happen and we can makethat happen without using
chemicals.
That's really really importantto for our viewers.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
I'm so glad you said
that and I think that is a gem,
kind of stepping out and makingit so personal and just really
just kind of looking at it asnot a problem to be solved, but
something that you're just moreaware of what's going on in your
body and what you want toachieve.
So then you take the logicalsteps to get there and I feel
(11:13):
like you really seem likesomeone who is willing to
support someone holistically inthat journey with your vegan
approach.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
So I think I've
learned a lot in the industry
and I I have learned thatthere's a lot of things that are
trending and I don't ever wantto be a part of that.
So our thing is aboutconsistency and kind of what is
the need and what are youlooking to personally achieve?
Right, because we all have adifferent barometer as far as
(11:44):
what we feel is like our maingoal, right?
So someone that might bepostpartum maybe that's just a
new mama trying to really justredefine her new role as a mom
and a wife and trying to likeokay, how do I navigate through
my body?
Or maybe you're someone that'sa little bit more seasoned and
you know you're going throughthat pre or post menopausal and
you got that middle, you know, stomach area that is preventing
(12:07):
you from really enjoying lifebecause you're so hyper-focused.
There's such a wide variety ofreasons on why people have
weight or body issues, but itdoesn't mean that you can't be
healed.
We just don't know how to do itand we try to use things from
our past that maybe we did 20years ago.
I don't know about you, but Iknow things I did in high school
(12:28):
and things that I'm doing nowas a 50 year old woman
completely different.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Right, exactly, and
it's kind of trying to adjust
the sails and navigate thosechanging times within yourself.
You know, and try and see whatwhat's going to work best, you
know.
So how can our listeners learnmore?
Speaker 3 (12:44):
about butt naked?
Yeah, that's a great question.
So we're very active on all oursocial platforms.
That's a really great way.
We just rebranded a new websitewhich is a little bit more user
friendly and easy.
Our shopping site has beennavigated to an easier shopping
site as well because, like I didsay, we do ship out our vegan,
organic, eu compliant skincareworldwide, so that makes it easy
(13:08):
.
Or, if you're in the McCandlessarea, we would love for have
you just to stop in and say hiand check out the place and we'd
love to give you a tour andshow you what all we do and then
, if that interests you, you canset up a consultation or book a
facial or book the privateHimalayan salt room.
You know, do whatever fillsyour soul.
When you come in and peoplelook at the rooms, they're
(13:29):
generally like oh, I like that, and that's how you know that
that room is kind of callingthem as far as what they need
and they don't even know thatthey need it yet.
Oh yeah, very good.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
It's about what
resonates with you and it seems
like you can kind of satisfy alot of different markets and
different kind of people withinyour spa.
So well, wendy, I reallyappreciate your time today and
having you as a guest on theshow.
We wish you and your businessthe best moving forward.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
Thank you for having
me.
I appreciated being here today.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
