cameron Glunt, with La PapillonSalon.

How are you?
I'm well, I'm well.

We're excited to learn aboutyou and your business.

So tell us about your business.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
So I just opened it.
I bought it a year ago and thenI completely revamped it and
renamed it, so that was inJanuary.
So it's a fresh salon.
It's new and we focus on hairmainly.
We do some facial waxing andbody waxing, but our main focus
is hair.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Awesome.
How'd you get into that?

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Well, I went to cosmetology school a few years
ago and I knew that I wanted toown my own thing.
So after bouncing around to afew salons, I found an
opportunity where the previousowner was looking to sell and it
just kind of worked out and Ibought it.
It was really fortunate.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Yeah, sounds like perfect timing, huh.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Yes, for sure.

Nice.
So are there any myths ormisconceptions in your industry?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
I would say that every salon in the beauty
industry in general is verycatty and not really a pleasant
field to be in and it's kind oftoxic.
I don't think that's true.
I mean, there are, of course,places and people that are that
way, but that's a bad stereotype.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yeah, so that would be a myth that you kind of
overcome at the salon.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
For sure.
Yeah, yeah, heavy focus on agood working environment and
just a good place for clientsand the stylists.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, that's great Kindness shows.
You know through and through,as you're focusing on marketing
the business, who are yourtarget customers and how do you
attract them to your business.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Our target is typically we don't really have a
specific age range and so Ijust hired one stylist and she
does braiding and she kind ofalready has a book built up.
But so we just target byposting what we do and what we
like to do.
So that's what she posts.

(02:45):
And then another stylist shelikes to do blonding, heavy
highlighting, stuff like that.
So we post a lot of that workthat she does.
And then for me I'm really I'ma little bit all over the board.
I like to do vivid colors andcuts, very like precision
haircuts.
So we mainly attract clienteleby posting the stuff that we

like to do, you know.
So once they see it they'relike, oh, that's the place to go
for that and it's been workingso far.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
I feel like there's such a variety when it comes to
hairstyling and coloring, andyou know just so many different
things to inform people on.
Have you ever thought aboutmaybe doing your own podcast?

Speaker 3 (03:30):
I have not thought about that, but that would be
fun, definitely.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Yeah.
So after work, what do you dofor fun?

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Well, I have two kids so I am pretty much occupied
with them, but I really reallylike to cook and I like running.
Yeah, we spend our days at thepark when it's nice out and when
it's not, we're still outsideanyways, just walking around and
I don't know.
We're very outdoorsy, so that'sour fun.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Oh nice, yeah, so let's switch gears for a second.
Can you describe maybe ahardship or a life challenge
that you overcame and how itmade you stronger?
Sure, yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
I would say one of the biggest ones would be when I
found out I was pregnant withmy daughter.
I was 16 and a lot of peopletold me that my life was going
to be over if I didn't, you know, get rid of her in one way or
another.
And I, just I, I just decidedto keep her like there was no
question about it.

(04:32):
She was mine and I went througha lot of a lot of judgment and
just the overall struggle thatcomes with being a parent.
And, yeah, I feel like now thatshe's seven, now almost eight,
it's like we made it, you know.
So I feel like, after goingthrough something that life

(04:55):
changing, I'm not really surewhat could, what could hit me
harder, you know.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Right.
Yeah, and you grow from thatand I'm proud of you for making
the best decision for you, foryou both.

Okay.
So one thing that would benotable, I would say, is we do
not focus on trends necessarily.
We definitely follow and keepup with, you know what is
trending, but for you personally, when you come in and you want
a certain change, we're going toask you, you know, like why do
you want this?
What about this do you like?
And instead of making it like acopycat thing, we want it to be

tailored to bring out the bestin you.
Like, we're not just a how do Iword this?
We don't want to just copy andpaste someone else's hair onto
yours.
We want it to be tailored toyou and really bring out the
best in you.
So I think that is something.
I mean, I've gone to plenty ofsalons before going to beauty

(06:08):
school and that was somethingthat I guess I didn't really
understand.
If I just saw a picture ofsomething I liked, I immediately
thought it would transfer wellon me.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
So you know that's not always the case Right, and I
guess, depending on you knowyour face shape or different
things about your facialfeatures, certain cuts might
look different on you than whatyou see on Instagram, pulling a
picture off of Pinterest.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Yeah, for sure.
So we have a heavy focus onbringing out the best in you,
specifically with using picturesmore as an inspiration than a.
You know, this is what you'regoing to look like.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
I love that because you get to be like collaborative
on like really creating artwith the client.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Yeah, for sure, and that's one of the best parts of
it too.

Right, it keeps things fun and every day is
different.
