Sampson Builder LLC.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Yes, you did.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Thanks, welcome, daniel.
Thank you for being a guesttoday.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Thank you for having me.
I'm excited.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
So let's start by telling our listeners about your
business.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
I am a one-person business.
I'm a one-man show.
I do full service bathroomrenovations turnkey.
I'm a one-stop shop forsomebody who wants to get their
bathroom renovated and they needcustom tile, they want a custom
floor, they want a heated floor, they need drywall work,

(01:05):
electrical plumbing.
I take care of everything.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
That is amazing, so tell our listeners about your
journey.
How did you get started in thisbusiness?

Speaker 3 (01:28):
I started on a path towards building my own house
and at the time I was in thebusiness of field service
management for a large companyand I had not been on the tools
for a long time.
And I got my builder's license.
I built my own house.
I found the process sorewarding and it was so nice to
make connections with localcontractors and people that I
knew from years prior that Ireally wanted to make a career

(01:51):
out of it.
So during the pandemic weslowly shifted out of the old
business and into this gettinglicensed, getting the right
equipment, getting a one-toncommercial truck and getting our
business set up for success.
So that's kind of how we gothere.
And so here we are six yearslater from where we started and

(02:15):
we're up and running.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
We're a profitable, debt-free business.
Good, it's good to hear thatyou're debt free, that's nice,
yep.
Can you tell us about any mythsor misconceptions you hear
about in your industry?

Speaker 3 (02:37):
I think there's lots of misconceptions out there
about contractors in general andalso tile and tile contractors,
one of those being that allcontractors are the same, and
one of my goals is to provepeople wrong, even if you've had
a bad experience with acontractor before.
My number one goal is toprovide high quality customer

(02:58):
service, and at the end, Iprovide clients with a QR code
so they can go to Google review, and I have all five star Google
reviews at this time.
We go above and beyond to makesure that we leave a client's
home cleaner than when we foundit.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
That is awesome.
Five star reviews are very hardto come by in an industry like
yours, so that is awesome.
When you're not working on yourbusiness, what do you like to
do for fun?

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Well, I'm married to my best friend, carrie, and
she's a wonderful woman.
We do everything together.
She likes to cook, I like toeat, so we do that.
We have a 1930 Model A and webelong to a couple different old
car clubs, so we get somecommunity and fellowship with

(03:51):
those guys and that's one of ourhobbies.
And I also have two nieces anda nephew that live just around
the corner from us and we spendas much time as we can with them
.
They just grew up so fast, sowe do soccer games and baseball,
basketball, you name it.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
That Model A?

Speaker 3 (04:13):
you said yes, that's another whole podcast, right
right oh, I could talk about itall day.
Yeah, it's been in the familyfor 50 or 60 years oh wow.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Describe one hardship or life challenge that you rose
above and can now say becauseof that challenge that you're
better for it and are stronger.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Yeah, I would say one struggle that I really had as a
young adult was speaking inuncomfortable situations to
people that maybe are not soreceptive to me, and also to
large groups of people.
So that was really a strugglethat I took a long time to work
through.
I had the opportunity to workas a project manager for a large

(05:01):
company and I had to reportbudgets and project statuses on.
I would carry anyone from 25 to35 projects at a time and I had
to report this to a board ofdirectors that was around 30
people.
You can imagine someone who wasnot real comfortable with public
speaking, especially inuncomfortable situations.

(05:23):
That was surely a feet to thefire scenario.
After doing that for severalyears and working with a group
of people who were supportiveand helping me on that journey,
I'm now very comfortablespeaking in front of people.
And you know, life is aboutmeeting your challenges and I
think everybody has their ownset of challenges and for some

(05:47):
people not me necessarily, butfor some people that's how you
gain your superpowers is byreally diving deep into those
and facing the fear.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
I like how you said gaining your superpowers.
That is great.
What is one thing you wish ourlisteners knew about your
business?

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Well, I would like you to know that I'm based in
Port Huron, michigan.
I do travel outside of St ClairCounty on occasion but we try
to keep as much work in St ClairCounty as we can to limit the
drive time and any kind ofwasted time on the road.
But we do work in ShelbyTownship and in that area.

(06:32):
I also am a member of BNI,which allows me to be plugged
into a group of 40 hardworkingentrepreneurs in all different
sectors of business.
I have a very deep network ofsubcontractors and even

(06:56):
unrelated people, such asbankers, real estate agents,
home inspectors, that I canconnect folks with and so I like
to be a connector as well.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
That is great.
And I know that B&I group is anawesome group for you every
Thursday morning right, that'sgreat.
