Gary Bagley is an expert in volunteerism and running impactful organizations. His story exemplifies how to build a meaningful, successful life that is both personally fulfilling and genuinely helpful to others. Gary's journey in giving back starts from a young age as a Boy Scout to becoming a volunteer partner to HIV/AIDS patients in New York City in the late '80s, early '90s. After earning his masters, he eventually found himself running nonprofit organizations, notably serving for 13 years as Executive Director of New York Cares, which matches tens of thousands of volunteers with local orgs every year. Today he is an executive coach and leadership consultant, and his newsletter is a must-follow for anyone in the impact space. Gary also serves on the The New York State Commission on National and Community Service, which administers AmeriCorps programs, notably. In this episode, Mr. Bagley discusses what goes into calibrating one's values over time, recent budget cuts to impact programs and nonprofits, and how community service organizations can navigate this moment of transition by strengthening their volunteer programs.
