With twenty-year’s experience in K-12 special education, Dr. LeGary shares his experience with bridging personalized learning with K-12 students to the UDL approach with graduate students. He describes how the M.Ed. program has been designed intentionally with UDL principles woven throughout the learning outcomes, teaching methods and materials, and assignments, including the culminating action research capstone project. Dr. LeGary expounds on his immersion in UDL professional learning at Goodwin and how best to apply throughout the M.Ed. program to benefit graduate students and guide them on how to implement UDL in their classrooms and organizations. Further, Dr. LeGary highlights his own realizations of being more mindful, intentional, and present by taking the students’ perspective and designing the learning environment proactively and flexibly for graduate students who are diverse learners with multiple life demands. In conclusion, Dr. LeGary shares some specific examples of building capacity by allowing student multiple options for expressing their learning and mastery and critically reflecting on their teacher leadership practice.
