Rock history doesn't get more legendary than Ozzy Osbourne, and in this episode, we get up close and personal with the Prince of Darkness himself. DJ Mikey D kicks things off with an incredible story from 1991 that you won't believe – making a midnight Taco Bell run with Ozzy during a postponed concert at San Francisco's Warfield Theater. These intimate, unfiltered moments reveal the surprisingly humble man behind the metal myth.

We dive deep into what makes Ozzy a cultural icon – from the infamous bat-biting incident (which, as we discuss, was actually a misunderstanding) to his groundbreaking musical legacy. Black Sabbath didn't just play heavy metal; they invented it. Those immortal riffs from "Paranoid" and "Iron Man" established the blueprint for generations of headbangers to follow. And when Ozzy went solo? "Crazy Train" with Randy Rhoads' blistering guitar work became nothing less than the national anthem for metal fans worldwide.

But Ozzy's cultural impact extends far beyond music. We explore how "The Osbournes" reality show transformed him from feared Prince of Darkness to beloved, confused dad struggling with TV remotes and looking for milk. This duality – metal god on stage, endearing family man at home – is what makes Ozzy such an enduring figure. Through addiction, accidents, and health challenges, he's remained an "unyielding mountain" whose influence spans across generations and musical genres. Whether you're a lifelong fan or just discovering his legacy, this episode celebrates everything that makes Ozzy Osbourne a true rock legend. Oh man, where do we even start with Ozzy?
The man was a walking legendeven in his old age.
From Black Sabbath to bitingheads off bats literally he's
done it all.
So my first encounter with Ozzywas in 1991 at the Warfield
Theater in San Francisco.
At the time I was interning fora local modern rock radio
station in San Francisco.
That particular evening theshow was postponed due to a fan
falling to his death.
Ozzy and his band were allchillaxing in the green room

(01:01):
smoking some good bud.
Ozzy asked me if there weresome good fast foods in the area
and I told him there was a TacoBell on Market Street.
He looked around for what Isuspect was his band manager,
who was nowhere in sight.
So he said hey, mate, care tomake a run?
I of course agreed.
I came back and we were allhaving a blast with Taco Bell

(01:22):
and getting stoned Great times.
What a humble man he was.
I had one other brief encounterseveral years later, at a
concert.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
OK, first of all, let's address the bat thing.
Like, who even does that?
You're on stage, you see a batand your first thought is, yep,
this'll taste great.
Wow, mikey D, you are such arock star.
I live in England and have onlybeen a spectator at his many
concerts.
You are one lucky dude.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
To be fair regarding the bat, he thought it was fake,
but still legendary move.
Only Ozzy could turn that intoa career highlight.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
True, but let's not forget the music.
Black Sabbath basicallyinvented heavy metal.
Paranoid Iron man those riffsare eternal.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
And then he goes solo and drops Crazy Train like it's
nothing.
That song's the national anthemof headbangers everywhere.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Randy Rhoads on guitar absolute fire.
That solo chef's kiss.
But can we talk about theOsbournes for a sec?

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Oh man, absolutely we can.
The show that made us allrealise Ozzy's just a lovable,
confused dad who can't work a TVremote.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Right.
One minute he's the Prince ofdarkness.
The next he's yelling Sharon, where's the damn milk Iconic?

Speaker 1 (02:30):
And let's not forget his resilience.
Dude survived addiction falls, you name it.
He's like an unyieldingmountain, indestructible.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
An unyielding mountain.
I'm stealing that, butseriously, his influence is
everywhere.
Even pop artists today cite himas an inspiration.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
So final question Aussie's greatest contribution
music, tv or just being Aussie?

Speaker 2 (02:52):
All of the above, the man's a cultural reset.
But if I had to pick crazytrain on full blast in my car
forever?
