(00:58):
is a beautiful day down here atthe Sports Complex right outside of Sissons Bank
Park at Exfinity Live as we leadyou into the rubber match for the Phillies
and the Cubs this afternoon at onethirty five. I am Chris Sack of
green Leaser Radio, sitting alongside Philliesbroadcaster Greg Murphy. Murph, how are
we doing this morning. Well,I'm doing a lot better than I was
(01:18):
two mornings ago after last night's goodvictory, solid victory for this squad.
And I mean, if recent historyis any indication, they're probably gonna rattle
off five in a six in arow. So yeah, I'm doing I'm
very positive this morning, mister Shack. You know it's great is that we
did a family trip yesterday up toConobles up in La Pennsylvania. Ever ever
go there before. We do itevery year with the kids, and so
(01:42):
we brought all my two kids,my sisters, two kids, my brother,
and my sister in law are expectingtheir their daughter any day now.
She's supposed to be induced this evening. So your congratulations to Kevin and Rachel
Rachel with an E, not Rachellike mine. But we were getting into
car last night driving on our wayhome, and I caught a signal on
the Phillies Radio network somewhere up there, and at the time your broadcast partners
(02:07):
were talking about you streaking or youjumped in at the perfect time, the
perfect time. Yeah, And I'msitting there, I'm like, I can't
wait to ask Murf about this tomorrowmorning. As it was great radio between
Fransky and la As they were talkingabout you, uh, your your days
back at Saint Joe's. It's it'sI'm just gonna let it go. I'm
(02:27):
not filing any kind of slander orlibel suit on the two of them.
Um, you know they like tohave some fun at at my expense.
Not neither confirming or denying any ofthe reports, but let's just say it
was a long time ago. Butin terms of streaking, that's what we
need right now from the Phills, right yeah, well we need a positive
streak right well, positive steek. It's it's we're gonna get into it.
(02:51):
We get out of box here. But you know it's it's it's way back
and forth. The CEA Sall lifethat is a Phillies fan, as a
Phillies really as a broadcast answer,it's insane for sure. But this first

normally on Saturday mornings he tweets outabout the best radio show in Philadelphia between
Dick Triari and Mike Kern. I'mhoping that now he's tweeting out about the
best baseball show in Philadelphia. Imean, is that what we're doing right
now? And then we have SeanBrace's back in studio on the board for
(03:58):
us. I don't know how Slashgets another weekend off. This is uh,
this is absolutely creative work. Sorry, he deserves it. But I
said when I walked in and sawJohn today, I said, we have
some royalty in that. We haveroyalty, and it's great to have Sean
back in the studio as well,so I feel like we're in good hands
today. Say absolutely, it's waybetter than let's really try to screw it
up. We're headphone less today too. This is weird. I'm I'm getting
(04:20):
it's just direct point of contact. But hey, listen, we didn't do
this last week because we were outin Denver. Great time, great weekend
outside of the ending one Sunday.Um, you know, wasn't what the
outcome that we were looking for.But hey, first series win in Denver
and first time in eleven years.Uh, you know, there's a lot
of positives to take away from thatseries, a lot of negatives to take
away from the rest of the week, which we'll dive into shortly. But
(04:42):
we did not give away tickets lastweek, so we're gonna give away two
more tickets for the upcoming Phillies Tigersseries on Monday, June fifth, at
six forty pm as we welcome backNick Maton and Matt Vierling. They should
be receiving their National League Championship ringsthat evening. Looking forward to having them
back here as well. Uh.Today, let's keep it simple, let's
keep it loose, let's keep itfun. Your favorite movie, comedy,
(05:04):
favorite movie comedy. See, Idon't think that's simple. You know,
I have like fifty that I couldchoose. Yeah, but you only have
time for a top five, Iknow. So that's why it's that's why
it's not easy, trying to makeit as difficult as possible. I'll give
you one right off the bat thatyou know ties into our show, ties
into my life because we talked aboutthis all the time, and in terms
(05:25):
of comedies, you got Baseball involved. Major League, the original Major League,
to me, is still one ofthe most quotable movies of all time.
We quote it all the time inthe broadcast booth with the guys.
I mean it's constant, you know, someone thrown out a line here and
there, and it's one of thosemovies for me. If I'm flipping through
and I see Major League is on, I'm watching. So I'll put Major
(05:47):
League on my top five comedies becauseI love them. But we'll put major
League on and I'll give him myother four later on. I'll tell you
what I quote every single day,Dumb and Dummer. Yeah, that's a
great one, I agree, trueAmerican classic, even like you can use
any of the quotes in the inthat movie at any point of any day
(06:09):
throughout the course of your life.Uh, you know, like it just
random ones too, Like when hewalks out of the convenience store and the
two guys are just hanging out thereand he goes, oh, big gulfs,
huh, well see you later, and he gets in the car,
and it's just like just stupid thingslike that. But it's just, you
know, the lines throughout the wholeentire movie, Jansen, what do you
got? Well, so you two, it's funny. You two both named
(06:30):
movies that had awful sequels as well. Yeah, Dumb Dumber two was and
Major leagu two was the worst, horrible, one of the worst ever see
mine. I like Talladega Nights.I just watched the movie, just talked
about it's great. And in termsof quotable movies, Austin Powers is the
best quotable movie. Yeah, they'renot so good again all in my top
fifty I would I would put allof these in my top fifties. Cell
(06:53):
comedy movies. They're just they bringso much joy. You know, when
you need where you need to justtwo and a half hours to turn your
brain off and just laugh and feelgood. A great comedy is where to
go and thankfully we have lots ofthe choice froms. In order to win
the tickets, you must answer inthe comments section of the Green Legion Radio
YouTube channel, the green Legion Facebookpage, or our Twitter handle at green
(07:16):
Legion. Our collective favorite answer willwin at the beginning of the final segment,
when Murph gives us the rest ofhis top five. Now you're talking
about how you need a good twotwo and a half hours after you know
certain things, And most of thisweek we've we've needed to have comedy hour.
Thankfully they've been on the West Coastand hey, listen, we're still
defeated in the state of California thisseason. Yeah, and the bad thing
(07:40):
is is we're going back to Californiahere soon, and if we get swept
by the A's, we're not playingany more games in California to the rest
of the season. I literally saidthat exact statement to someone yesterday. I
said, seriously, if we goout there and lose three to the A's,
let's let California fall right into theseat that point, because I don't
need to go back. Well,I go to Sandy, GA. Yeah,
you know, and it's funny becauseobviously, you know, those cities
(08:05):
in California are great places to visit. Um, and you know, we
had beautiful weather in San Francisco. That ballpark is amazing, and you know
you lose three straight to the FightingCaps, and um, you know,
I can take great pleasure in sayingthat because you know what, no,
I know it drives you. Now, it's so so yeah a little bit.
But but I they are thirteen andfour. I think I have that
(08:26):
number right, thirteen and four. The Giants are against the Phillies since Gabe
Kapler has taken over as their manager. You know that Gabe is feeling pretty
darn good about Lynn just made thesame noise that I just wanted to do,
but I can't do that on air. It hurts. But um,
you know they have our number atthis point, I assume they're coming into
(08:46):
town at some point here, ofcourse they are. Then yeah, yeah,
so um, hopefully we can turnthe tables a little bit. But
yeah, thirteen and four since Gabetook over. And look, we did
not play good baseball fan Francisco, that's quite obvious. And didn't play good
baseball in Los Angeles either. Infact, probably played worse in LA and
(09:07):
yeah, no doubt quite obvious aswell. So yeah, I think the
next time we hit California at SanDiego, no, no, it is
OK, it's Oakland. Yeah.Yeah, we go to Arizona and then
Oakland. Yeah, you're right inJune on a West coast trip and then
we head to San Diego later. So hopefully we can turn things around when
when we play the Oakland A's,we'll see, Well, let's not try
and jump that far ahead. Well, you know, it's just nice knowing
(09:30):
that we have to go back toCalifornia a couple more times. Two more
West coast trips are on tap forthe Phillies this year a little bit different
the previous years because now with thewith the scheduling that Major League Baseball is
doing, you know you're gonna you'regonna be hopping across the country a little
bit more often. But let's getout of the box here. As a
ce saw life, that is,a Phillies fan, a Phillies broadcaster,
or a Phillies player, front officepersonnel, everybody continues to go here.
(09:52):
Winners of five of six a fewweeks ago, then they lose six in
a row. Then they win fivein a row, then they lose five
in a row, and then yesterday'swins. So, like you said,
I guess we're expecting to go streakingin the positive manner here through the rest
of this week. Philly said attwenty one to twenty four and fourth place
in National LEAGUEESE, sitting seven gamesbehind the Atlanta Braves. Thank you Seattle
(10:13):
for knocking off the Braves yesterday andcatching us up and cutch it up another
game for us. Uh, youknow it's odd too. I mean the
Mets got rained out yesterday. Seeyou gained a half game. They've been
rained out eleven times this year.Is out the exactly, but it's like
four or five. Wow, it'sabout it's at least four. I will
have to look that up, butit's at least four. I can't believe
(10:35):
it either. They did it earlyyesterday as well, and that sets up
I gotta can you believe it lateron show for you in regards to that.
But uh, let's start out withthe obvious here, because, uh,
you know, Trey Turner felt theboo birds of Philadelphia and South Philadelphia,
you know, fans for the firstlegit time as a home player,
on Friday evening. Um, youknow, the struggle has been real.
(10:56):
I mean, I think his Ithink his offensive struggles are starting to spill
over into his defensives side of hisgame. Now, mind you, he's
not a Gold Glove defensive shortstop asit is. Anyway, if you wanted
that, you would have brought incarlins Corea. If that's what you were
looking for this offseason. You broughthim in here to bring some electricity to
the lineup, to have contact he'ssecond on the team, and strikeouts.
He struggled with his ops. Thesebatting averages now hovering around to fifty five
(11:20):
two sixty if you look at hisWorld Baseball Classic numbers. This is courtesy
of Phillies muse on Twitter, whichis out, which is incredible. Six
games in the World Baseball Classic heplayed, he had five home runs on
eleven rbi. Forty four games sofar for the Phillies this season, four
home runs and ten RBI. Whatgives him? Okay, so all of
(11:41):
that is is, well, everythingyou said it's true. Obviously. You
know it's funny because I saw thatyou had written that he had experienced the
Boo Birds for the first time.Obviously, I was at the game the
other night. I did not getthe sense that they were booing Trey Turner
as much as they were booing theover all uh effort by you know,
(12:03):
I mean Trey Trey made the error. At that point, the booze came
down. Um, someone else didsomething, you know, less than stellar.
The booze came down. Every timethe um the Cubs got a hit,
we heard the boot. So Ifeel like that particular night, that
crowd, it was so lopsided. It was early, the Cubs jumped out
(12:26):
once the Phils got the early lead. Then the Cubs came back and and
it just felt like it was allkind of palling it. So I'm not
saying that it wasn't directed, youknow, partly a Trey Turner. It
probably was, But I think itwas directed really as collectively as the nine
guys out there on the field atthat particular time because nothing was going right.
That said, you know, youlaid out the numbers from the World
(12:48):
Baseball Classic UM for Trey Turner andcompare them to the numbers forty four games
versus five games, it is it'sremarkable when you stop and you think about
the production that he had at theend of the World Baseball Classic versus what
he's done so far this season. That said, if you want to spit
in a positive direction, which I'vebeen known to do from time to doe,
(13:09):
it just goes to show you thatin any five game stretch, Trey
Turner can double his numbers, hisoutpat and and that is totally what I
expect will happen at some point.I mean, Trey Turner is way too
good of a player, has waytoo long of a track record to think
that at the end of the seasonhe's gonna have nine home runs and batting
(13:33):
two sixty. I don't see it. I don't think there's any chance of
that. I think he's much morelikely to finish the season hovering around three
hundred. I think he's much morelikely to have well into the double digit
home runs and probably seventy eighty RBIsas well. I believe that's where he's
gonna end up. He's just gonnahave a hot streak that's gonna turn things
(13:54):
around for much like things happen forSchober last year. Was it more of
a breather of reason why yesterday Toppergave him the day off. I mean
he's played in every game so farthis season up until that point. Yeah,
more so to kind of just youknow, give him a break from
you know, every day action andjust get get him, get him on
the bench, you know, lethim work with Kevin Long in the cage.
(14:16):
You know what did you pick upfrom that from yesterday? And then
you see the offense explode the waythat it did. Yeah, and again
I don't necessarily think one has anythingto do with the other. It was
an off day for Trade Turner.Everybody gets them. It was his first
full off day of the season. You know, there was one other game
he didn't start at shortstop, buthe was the DH that game, right,
So that's not really an off day, right, It just takes him
(14:39):
away from the play. Yeah,So this got him off his feet,
got him away from the game fora minute, which I think probably he
needs more from a mental standpoint thana physical standpoint. Trade Turner wants to
play every day, and he's gonnaend up playing one hundred and fifty seven
games this year more than likely.Yeah. Yeah. But health, yeah
yeah, knock on wood, yeah, god forbid. But for rob and
(15:03):
obviously he was asked about this yesterday. It was just an opportunity to get
him off his feet. He sawa chance to do it, he took
it, and it obviously worked outreally well on both sides. And I
gotta believe I'd be more concerned aboutTrede Turner if when he was asked by
reporters about the current slump that he'sin, if he would say stuff like,
(15:26):
you know, it's fine, it'sbaseball, I'll be fine. Instead,
he's saying, no, I needto play better. But he also
went on to say, which Ithought was awesome. He said, I'm
not trying too hard. He said, I'm a really good player. I'm
just not getting the results that I'mused to and I will. To me,
that's the best possible answer you canhear from a superstar, not making
(15:46):
excuses, looking in the mirror andsaying, yeah, I realized I'm not
doing what I'm supposed to do rightnow, but I know I'm going to
because I'm really good. And that'sthe kind of mentality that you love out
of your superstars. And I'm notworried about him, I'm just not And
that's the mentality that the Phillies asa whole they're superstars that they have and
you can you can see that comingfrom the from the top, and it
(16:07):
works this way down through the rosterin and of itself. So I'm just
gonna skip past the starting rotation realquick because we'll get to that um sense
of urgency. Uh, you know, like what we've been hearing a lot
here and early going, and particularlylast Sunday was the quarter pole this season.
We talked about it on last week'sshow. You know, forty games
in and now we're past the quarterpole. And guess what next weekend is?
(16:30):
Importal day weekend. Yeah, andthe summer happened. You know,
it comes and then it comes fastand it goes even faster. So the
Phillies now, like what I sawafter Friday Night's game was more so a
sense of urgency when when you seethe see the clips and the quotes of
a Nick Cassiano sent up Bryce Harperand even Rob Thompson for the first time
on Friday Night. After that game, I could really start because like you
(16:52):
not saying that, Topper has kindof just been pushing it to the side,
like we're gonna get going, We'regonna get going, We're gonna get
going, he said the other night, for the first time, I feel
like this season, like we've gotto get going. And I'll tell you,
like, I really picked up onthat sense of urgency. And I
appreciate it that because we've been kindof sitting here and I know, like
we could talk about it all daylong here, you know, amongst us
in the media and as as afan, you fans of the team.
(17:14):
But to hear that kind of youknow, urgency coming from the clubhouse and
especially starting at the top with RobThompson and works its way down through the
rest of the clubhouse, I appreciateit that. Yeah, it's funny you
mentioned that because I also noticed thatover the last two days, looking at
the quote Trey Turners, Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, and Rob Thompson,
(17:36):
there did seem to be a littlebit of a switch from we will get
this going to we need to getthis going. It's subtle, but it's
important. Rob was asked directly yesterdaypregame when do you start to worry about
things not getting going? And heand he looked at the reporter I forget
who asked it, and and kindof chuckled and said, I know when
(18:00):
that is, but I'm not tellingyou, is what he said. It's
kind of like Bryce Harper's injury update. He's like, I have a date,
but I'm not giving it and weall kind of laughed, and then
Rob goes, maybe it already happened, right, And that's the beauty of
Rob Thompson too, keeping it lightand keeping it keeping it kind of positive.
But the idea that these guys,I don't necessarily think they're counting the
(18:22):
games. There's probably only a handfulof guys in that clubhouse that know that
we've reached the quarter pole of theseason. Unless they've been asked directly about
it, they probably don't even realizeit. That's how focus they are on
what's happening that day. They really, for the most part, don't think
like that, and which I thinkis a good thing, because the season's
(18:45):
way too long for the players tothink like that. It's it's great for
us to think like that, it'sfun for us to think like that.
But when it comes to the players, they're just worried about going out there
tonight and today and getting there now, getting a win and moving on.
They couldn't tell you where they arein the standings. I'm telling you twenty
(19:06):
six guys in that clubhouse. Ifyou ask them and they honestly answered the
question, I bet you only fiveor six could tell you where they are
in the standings and who's ahead ofthem and who's behind them. They don't
know. They really don't know. Now, maybe when we get down to
Atlanta, you know, they'll hearyou know, and then it'll it'll,
it'll hit their consciousness. But they'renot concerned about that because all they can
(19:29):
do is try to win the gamethat's right there in front of them.
And if they continue to do thatand win series, and then the rest
of it takes care of itself. And that's the way they approach it,
and that's where they have to approachit. Right now. On the other
side, for when we come backfrom break, I want to talk about
the starting rotation. I want tosee if we have an update on Jose
Alvarado. But real quick, beforewe go to break, what's the deal
with Phillies media members not being ableto catch foul balls? Scott Frensky had
(19:53):
a couple at the last couple ofyears for Ruben and Marrow. Junior had
a flaw Baile trying to protect TomMcCarthy Phillies MLB dot Com beat writer Todd
Zilucky yesterday. Uh man, I'lltell you that did not look good.
Uh you know he it looked likehe stabbed at it, hit off his
hand, He dropped the ball. What kind of work? What word if
(20:14):
advice? Ki you give? Todd? And have you ever come close?
Because I know you used to workyour way around the ballpark. Uh,
I've come. I've caught a couple. You've called a couple. Yeah,
I've never had one go off myhand. So is this I wish I
had? I wish I had thevideo of the one I remember who hit
it, Cody Ashley. I wasdown in the camerawell first base side at
the Citizens Bank Park, So youknow, I'm like chess level to the
(20:36):
field right because I'm I'm down inthe dug camerawell. Yeah, it's similar
to the dugout, and Cody Ashleyhit a two hopper, you know,
foul down the line and I reachedout over the net and boom snagged it.
There you go. Yeah, Andthey had video of that at one
point, but I think it's beendestroyed because I kept asking do you think
do you think like Zilecki and Franskiand all of them have had it destroyed
so that we don't have amongst them. But here's the thing. The reason
(21:00):
why Philadelphia sports media members for themost part can't catch the foul ball is
because they're Philadelphia media members for areason. Right, every single one of
them at one point was out onthat field, and now they're not for
a very particular reason. And Ithink we're seeing that, and I think
that's very I talked to Todd aboutthat last night. I saw him after
(21:21):
the game and I just said, all, Todd, he goes. I
know, he goes. I wasso afraid, he said. At first,
I didn't think they got it oncamera because I didn't see it for
like twenty five thirty seconds in heis, and then there it is,
and uh yeah. He was talkingto her friend, he said, and
someone yelled look out, and hesaid, and I turned and it was
right there and it hit my handand it fell down. I said,
he had a likely story. Youprobably were tracking it the whole cru Crucker
(21:44):
was ripping him pretty good in thebroadcast last night, and then he even
tweeted out this morning's Lecky. He'slike, he's like, hey man,
he's like, I'm a writer fora reasactly. You know that's and that's
exactly. Not almost can catch twohorn rolls in one game. I mean,
I'm just saying. I'm just saying, not everybody can do it good
hands at the stand not yes, absolutely the Jansen have you ever? Not
everyone? No, not everyone,No, No, I don't like unfortunate.
(22:06):
They make gloves for a reason.I don't like a ball hitting my
bare hand. That's just go gostand over there. We should say that
we're about to go to break thehurts. T Mac does have one of
the all time great catches. Yeah, but he had a glove, fair
point, big time difference. Hedid have a grown man. Grown man
should not bring a glove. We'vewe've gone over this, Pet Peeves our
(22:26):
first season again, I said,if you're over thirteen, you can't bring
a glove to the ball. Idon't argue that. But that said,
it was a great made for oneincredible moment. Freddy Freeman. Freddie Freeman
hit the home run. The homerun, yeah, yeah, yeah,
I think it was Freddy free wasdefinitely the Braves um. But but the
call was just as good, youknow what I mean, Like Tmack never
(22:47):
missed a step and he caught theball. That was That was one of
the coolest things I've ever sa Iwas at the NHL Draft that night.
I remember that moment he started comingout on Twitter. All right, so
we're gonna head the break here onone or two point five Fox Sports agamlest
is Bud light Ball Brunch. Onthe other side, we're gonna talk about
the starting rotation woes and we're gonnadive into the ballparks, which we didn't
get to do last week on theshow. Right here, I wanted to
(23:08):
point five Fox Sports a gamble andwe'll be right back after these messages.
Lunch Swarmer high own kicks, thepitch breaking ball, blasted high indeed right
field, and forget about it UpperTank brand slam for Kyle Schwarmer for to
nothing Phillies in the first you don'twant Scott Brandy says blast, you know
(23:34):
that thing is so far out ofthe ballpark. That's his line. When
it's a no doubt about it,and when when he said blasted yesterday in
terms of the Kyle Schwarmer Grand Slam, that was such a huge swing of
the bat because you know JT hadjust popped up, bases loaded, nobody
out. JT pops up, andnow you think, oh boy, if
(23:55):
Schumer were to strike out here, they can see themselves out of as any
without any runs and then bang four, just like that first Grand Slam.
I think since June of twenty twentytwo, man, oh man, did
they need that? I know, for me with Fransky is swung on crushed.
Yeah, it's a man. He'sthe best. He's the best.
(24:15):
And you know it's even better isthe fact that he was on my plane
going out Denver and he told Murphthat he saw me before I told you
that I saw him. He wasvery excited, he was very completely enamor.
Yeah, he's like I met yourco host. I got a picture
with him. They didn't take apicture. I didn't want to bother him.
I don't want to bother My wifeis sitting there, She's like,
who is he talking to? AndI was like, oh, Scott's got
(24:37):
to hang out with him, Hey, don't hang out, don't hang out
alone in the man came for baseballthis season. Try hanging out at cheerleaders
with sexy entertainers four dollars, domesticbeers, Jamison's specials, and awesome game
day experiences all season long. That'sright, stop in before, during,
or after the game, not onlyto see your favorite entertainers, but also
your chance to have the best gameday experience. Cheerleaders is open daily from
noon until two am. Check themout today, We're tomorrow, whatever day
(25:03):
you want to. I was actuallygoing to switch up the library because we
had a couple of kids right infront of the table, but they walked
away as we were going online,so I was like, hey, let's
keep it going, all right.Starting rotation fads on woes lately with the
starting rotation. Okay, outside ofAaron Nola's performance yesterday, Brodden uses the
opener on Monday and goes two thirdsof an inning before Billy Falter comes in
and builds him out of the basesload of jam but then gives up six
(25:26):
hard luck runs in that inning forhim. You know, the trade Turner
play, the Cassianos play that wasthe stat error at which was his first
at second base as a Philly, and then Cassianos out there in right field
and they gets demote it down totriple a tyme on walker last two thirds
of an inning and start on Wednesday. We were just talking last Sunday about
how well he had play he hadpitched in his previous two starts. But
(25:48):
that's the reason why he's pitching onshort notice today for the Phillies. And
they're shuffling around the rotation, whichwe'll get to in a second. And
Ranger Suarez gets rocked on Friday night, last only two winnings. The bullpen
is getting shot here, Murph, what can we say about the starting rotation?
Obviously you've been saying it for acouple of weeks now. Your big
worry has been about the starting rotationoutside of, you know, thinking that
(26:11):
eventually the offense would get itself together. But here we are in long behold
and this was not a good weekfor the rotation as a whole. No.
And it's much like the winning andlosing streaks. They seem to go
week by week, you know,a couple of good starts in a row
by the by the starting rotation, then a couple of poor starts, then
a couple of good ones. Ithink the one thing that you can look
(26:32):
it hasn't been good. And I'mnot gonna try and sugarcoat it. Well,
I guess I am gonna based onwhat I'm about to say, you
normally do sugarcoat. But but youknow, you mentioned kind of Brocken loading
up the basses might well be abakery. Yeah, but but I mean
the two base hits that they gotwere bleeders through the you know what I
mean. It's like, it's notlike these guys are getting rocked. Even
Ranger Suarez, you know, inhis second outing of the season, he
(26:55):
wasn't getting rocked. I mean theywere they were like jam shots that were
falling in here and there. Controlhas Yeah, he was having a little
bit of control issues. You're right. The problem has been when that happens
to Philly's pitching. They have beenvery inconsistent in being able to say,
you know what I need, Ineed an out right here and I need
(27:18):
to go get it and reaching backand getting a strike out or getting you
know, in on someone's on thelabel, on somebody and popping it up
very often this season in those scenarios, that's when the base it comes again.
And that's been the problem. Thatwas the problem with Bailey Falter,
that was the problem recently with TaiwanWalker. That's the problem with Ranger Suarez.
(27:40):
Although I think we have to giveRanger a little bit of a pass.
It's still kind of back into springtraining for him. But that and
then when Zach and Aaron have gotteninto trouble, that's been the problem with
them too. And so Aaron yesterdaywas a completely different guy. Right when
he needed to get it out,he got him. Mean, he was
(28:00):
yesterday, Um easy with the sixnothing lead after the first well you would
think, but it hasn't been beforewe've lost those, not exactly. So
my point is that he went outand, yes, pitched with the lead,
but he pitched in dominant fashion.Really only made one or two mistakes
yesterday, Um Swanson hit one ofthem out and that was it. So
(28:23):
the rotation is an issue right now. They're looking for depth, They're looking
for guys to step up. Um. I know for a fact that that
the front office is, you know, turning over every stone to try and
figure out if there's something out therethat might be able to help them.
So, yeah, that needs tobe better. We've seen flashes of good,
they need to be much more consistent. Dylan Covey thirty one year old
(28:45):
right hander they just picked up offthe waivers. But the Dodgers looks like
he's going to get to start onTuesday. I think the last time out
he threw for the Dodgers, hethrew four innings. Um, so he
stretched out. But they can't likewith the way the star rotation. You
know, Rangers last start the bornbefore that, his first one was only
four innings time one walker his laststart. They are killing the bullpen.
(29:08):
Yeah. Here early in the earlygoing of the season, you kind of
start to worry about where they're goingto be at. Like I was hopefully
yesterday Nolan was gonna go through gothrough eight. You know, Brodden pitched
again yesterday in the eight. Yeah, so I was anything, you know,
let Cody Clement's pitch again, ifthat's the case. It was just
for me, I was a littlebit annoyed that, you know, he
was at ninety six pitches. Hehas shown the tendency independence that he can
(29:30):
go out there and give over onehundred and ten pitches, right, I
was, I was, I hadn'tbrod the pitch again yesterday. Was it
was like to me, like theone flaw of the whole entire game,
okay, and that's fair. I'dhave to go back and look as to
when Connor pitched previously. I don'tthink he had appeared in the Cup series.
And we had the day this weektoo, right, So so that
(29:52):
sometimes dictates, you know, who'sgonna come in, you know, winning
or losing in any particular situation.Sometimes time they go into a game saying,
we have to get this guy inenning of work if we can.
And now, if the starter's cruisingwith seventy five pitches headed into the eighth
and pitching a no hitter, they'renot gonna pull him to get a gut,
right. But but if the situationpresents itself, then they are going
(30:15):
to do that. And I thinkthat's kind of what it was yesterday.
And look, you know, Aaronwas terrific yesterday and he threw almost on
under pitches. It's okay to gethim out too, right and get him
off his feed and say job welldone kind of thing, because you're gonna
need him to do what he didyesterday fifteen or twenty more times before at
the end of the season. Yeah, all right, So while we go
(30:37):
ahead, I want to know realfast, any word, any update,
on Jose Alvarado's condition. Yeah, not much. You know, it's kind
of been the the the word that'sbeen put out over the last week.
He's he's throwing right now. He'sout to seventy five feet on flat ground,
has not gotten up on a moundyet. But the important thing is
when he is throwing, he's experiencedno issues, no pain. So the
(31:02):
next step will be to get himout the ninety feet, which could very
well be happening today. I don'tknow. It's basically an every other day
kind of thing. And I believethe seventy five feet was two days ago,
so that would make sense. Andthen they're gonna get him up on
the mound, let him throw, you know, let him pitch a little
bit. But he is going togo out on a rehab assignment for sure,
and so he's not Bryce Harper,Yeah, yeah, few are.
(31:25):
So if he asked me, Iwould tell you that we're probably several weeks
away from seeing Jose Alvarado back onthe mound as long as he continues to
progress though and stay healthy again.I wouldn't rush any of these guys.
The bullpen in my mind is deepenough right now that you can you can
(31:45):
get by. You want Jose inthere, obviously, but I want him
in there in August and September completelyhealthy and dominating again. So I'll give
him an extra couple of weeks inJune and July to get to that point.
And I think I'm not saying that'swhat the Phillies are doing, but
I wouldn't be surprised if that's whatthe Phillies are doing, right, all
right? So last week, youknow we talked about on the show,
(32:07):
we were both out in Denver. You've you've been, You've crossed every single
one off your list, now, right, I mean Texas Opening weekend was
the was the last one that youhad had been to Texas? It was
last year. They were there yearsago, and the year it was built
we were there. Well, theyear it was built was twenty twenty.
You couldn't have been there, Okay, so then we were Although they did
have the COVID World Series. Itickets tickets in my in my shopping cart.
(32:30):
Well, no, I didn't itchingfor sports, and I almost went
to Texas for the COVID World Series. This year in Texas was my second
time. The second time. Idon't know when when the first but anyway,
but yes, I'm all thirty.I think I don't know for sure
for sure, but if I hada bad i've been probably been about thirty
five or thirty six. Yeah, when it's all said and done, probably
(32:51):
thirty five. So yeah, it'sit's one of the cool parts of the
job, right, absolutely well withoutbeing a part of the job. I'm
at twenty three over, which isimpressive. Any active and three defunct ones,
you know, veteran stadium, OldYankee and and shay um. But
let's let's buzz through here because thosethose that haven't had, you know,
the fortunate ability to be able todo what we do, as far as
(33:13):
being able to travel and see theseballparks across the country. Let's let's give
our top ten each and let's seeif we have any there comparable here.
I would imagine we probably do,but let's see if we have anything that's
comparable. We don't have to divetoo far into the ballpark itself. We
only have five minutes left on this. Uh, give me, give me
yours first. Okay, actually arewe doing this in order? But for
(33:34):
me, I'm going in order, all right, give me your give me
ten through five. Ten, Soten for me is truest park in Atlanta
outside of the chop. I enjoyit, and I like the battery,
all right, all right. FenwayPark is number nine, a little bit
overrated. The sight lines, theseats, they're uncomfortable. Uh. Bush
Stadium in Saint Louis is number eight. Miller Park in Milwaukee is number seven
(33:58):
for me. Now, keep inmind, I haven't into some of the
ones that you've been to San franSan Diego. Okay, all right,
I haven't been. I haven't beenplay I haven't been to those ones yet,
or Seattle, Houston, haven't beenin Texas, I haven't been.
I got a hold whatever, Igot ten more to go. Uh America
Park, I think it's very underrated. I like the old School Field in
Detroit with that. That's number six. Corse Field is now number five in
(34:20):
Denver. Dodger Stadium. I loveDodger Stadium. I love being able to
walk in through the upper tank withthe ravine and all that stuff. That's
number four. Cannon Yards is three, PNC Park is number two, and
Rigley Field is number one. NowI did not put out there that I
do not put Sissons Bank Park intomy rankings. But if someone asked me
the other day, without being ahomer, where would you put it?
(34:40):
I got it in that Cannon Yards, Dodger Stadium, corps Field range,
probably ahead of Course Field, mayberight right behind Dodger Stadium, maybe right
above it. But that's where Iwould put Sissons Bank Park. All right,
Um, that's funny. I thoughtwe were going to cross over a
ton, But you you haven't beento a couple of the ones that that
I think are pretty spick brand.I was there. I would two thousand
(35:01):
and four, just to high school. I was in the Bay Area for
nine days, all right. TheGiants were gone all nine days. The
A's were home, so we wentto Okla Calcium. It's not on your
list, that's so that's very laston my list. But but they had
at the time, they had Molder, Hudson and Zito. And I saw
Mark Redmond pitch against the Tigers ayear after they were one of the worst.
(35:23):
What a trend. Gotta love it. But I did see. I
was at mc cove. I wasat the ballpark. It is gorgeous.
Just haven't seen a game there yet. Yeah, you know, what uh,
and and you know, I'll giveyou my list now, but uh,
you need to do that. It'sa it's a beautiful place, great
place to watch a game. Itused to be that they sold out every
game and the atmosphere there was prettyelectric two which is kind of cool.
(35:45):
Um, they're less than selling outnowadays, but still it's it's a great
place and uh fun fact. SanFrancisco and Pittsburgh PNC Park built by the
same architectural firm and almost an identicallayout. You know, from the bowels
(36:05):
of the ballpark where most people don'tget to see, to how you get
to the clubhouses, how do youget to the dug out right field walls.
Yeah, they're they're so similar andboth with spectacular backdrops. P and
C needs P and C needs anew scoreboard. That thing is the same,
it's the same one. But youdon't want to block that view.
No, no, no, no, no, it's in left field.
You're not blocking the view. You'restill getting the Clementi Bridge is still getting
(36:27):
the skyline. But they need inleft field. They need an update,
fair enough. They still have topixelated stuff that the veteran the veteran stadium,
I love that stuff. Yeah, that brings back my childhood. All
right here, let me let megive you my I'll give you a ten
through six as well, all right, real quick? Uh? Toronto great
ballpark kind of cool, certainly betterwhen the roof is open on a beautiful
day in Toronto. Toronto is agreat city to visit. Um. You
(36:51):
know, once you get through customsand everything and can get and get through,
you know, past all of that. It's the only place we have
to do that kind of thing,so it's extra step. But Toronto itself,
the ballpark is really a cool place. If the roof is open,
you look up and you see theCN Tower. They're just kind of hovering
over. People are bunging off ofthe tower and it's it's just neat.
(37:13):
So that's number ten for me.Number nine, Uh, Number nine is
Milwaukee again, another one of theretractable roof stadiums. But when it's open,
Milwaukee is a great place to watchyou games. And again, great
crowds, a lot of energy there. I really appreciate that. I gotta
get down you burn, We gottaget you down. Bernie slide. You
(37:34):
know what Bernie slide is something Ihaven't done yet one of these days,
one of these days, I'll dothat. But great place to go,
all right. Number seven for me, you're on number eight, Uh,
Denver, mile high out there, mile high. Um, great ballpark.
You just talked about it. Everythingabout it is really nice when the weather's
great. It's a good place today. Yeah. So number seven for
(37:57):
me Dodger Stadium. This could behigher. I love Dodger Stadium. Your
your point about coming in at thetop of the ballpark and people have never
been there. You can walk inat the very very top and the view
is just it's it's gorgeous. It'sjust beautiful. And that's one of the
It's the third old and small parkin all of baseball, and it's in
(38:19):
such great condition. Part of thathas to do with the weather not beating
out, but but still they've donea great job keeping that up to date.
And uh, it's a great placeto watch a game. All right.
Number seven for me would be oh, I'm on six already. Six
would be Pittsburgh. Yeah. Ohyeah, it's a great place. Okay
much for the same Pittsburgh's two onmy list. Oh okay, yeah,
(38:39):
no, I'm gonna put it six. Um, But it's a great place.
I love going there. And again, uh, kind of a cool
city, very walkable and we walkto the ballparks. I like that number
five. I'm giving you number five. Now, I only got as far
as six so far. All right, number five would be did I say
Seattle yet? No? Seattle anotherjust you know, when the weather's great
(39:00):
in Seattle, there's just it's justa beautiful city. It's a beautiful place
to be, beautiful part of thecountry. And that park, although it
feels massive when you're in there,um it really they did a great job
kind of capturing the city and thefeel of where you are in the Northwest.
So I put Seattle on that listas well. Right, oh,
(39:22):
you're gonna make me keep going, all right? For we'll give let's put
us up the list. It wouldbe Fenway. Yeah. Again, it's
hard to argue against Fenway Park.I mean, it is what it is.
It's historic. I'm not a hugefan of the Red Well, I
hate the Red Sox. I guessthat's a fairway to say so, so
I have a little bit of biastowards Fenway Park. But you know what,
(39:45):
if I'm being honest, if you'regonna go watch a baseball game elsewhere
outside of Philadelphia. Fenway Park's apretty good stop for sure. Um.
Number three would be San Francisco Imentioned, Yeah, I didn't mention them
yet, so that would be numberthree for me. I didn't put numbers
next to these. Obviously you're good. Said. Number two would be,
(40:05):
Oh, I can't use Citizens BankPark. I'm not okay, all right
because to me, CBP is isnumber two. Yeah, it's it's it's
got everything you want. It screamsPhiladelphia when the crowds are good, that
you have the backdrop, it's abeautiful place to watch a game. Put
that number two, and then numberone for me is regular you know,
again for all the reasons you likeFenway, you like Regularly. But I
(40:28):
think they've done a good job atkeeping up with the Jones this kind of
thing. Yeah, in terms oftrying to make it a little bit more
modern and uh party atmosphere. Yeah, it's winter lose, they still booze.
So there you go. That's mythat's my top ten subject to change

(42:20):

out once I get once I getSan Diego, Battle in San fran But
you know, like I said, minus a chop, I dug it.
It was nice days and Southern hospitalityis a real thing. Nice people,

The Luvelum Hotel your new oasis incl City. All right, let's
go ahead, Murph, give methe rest of your top five favorite comedies
and then we'll go to our um. Do you want me to go to
the path. No, I gottaget your top fi all right, real
quick. I'll give me you vacation, the Original Vacation, Original Vacation,
(43:45):
phenomenal movie. Made me laugh,or it makes me laugh every time I
see it. City Slickers dude.Great movie, great movie. Another movie
that I quote all the time, and I think that's part of it for
me. American And the reason Iput American Pie on the list is I
was I had no idea what itwas about when I went to I saw
(44:06):
it in the movie theater and I'mnot sure I've ever laughed harder in a
movie theater than I did watching AmericanPie. I mean it was outrageous,
as everyone knows that's seen it.Yeah, I was watching it. I
was watching a Little Mermaid last night. Dude, she's a at that aerial.
She's so hot, Dude, she'sa mermaid, dude, I know,
oz, but not when she's allland see and that's just great logic
(44:29):
right there. Yeah. Yeah,But anyway, so yeah, American Pie.
Phenomenal movie. And uh my fifthone, I'm gonna go old not
the movie Old Time was really good. But I'm gonna go old school with
Animal House, which was the originalold school. Yes again. You know
any movie that can can still standthe length of time five fifty years after
(44:52):
it was made, her forty yearsafter it was made? Is it good?
And there's so many more, somany more, but so many,
so many, But here's the onesthat we got. Grumpy old men,
wedding crashers, the hardest I everleft in a movie theater. Yes,
Porky's funny step Brothers, American Pie, Happy gil Moore. I think we
both know who we're gonna go with. I put American Pie on my list,
(45:15):
and so someone nailed it. Yeah, I gotta go with that American
Pie. Congratulations. Sam. Willgo ahead and get your information so I
can send you over the tickets.Murf. All right, listen, we
did our last picks here a coupleof weeks ago, and for you,
you would like I said, youwould have went in three last week.
You know, you made sure itwas like five minutes after the show and
you're walking across the cours field andyou're sending me your three picks, and
(45:37):
I'm sitting there, I'm trying tobreak everything down and I just want to
like get something to eat, graba couple of beers before I head into
ballpark. And I knew that ifyou would have hit those three picks,
you would have been talking so muchcrap all week. I could not wait.
Yes, yes, very true, very true. Murf went right now,
thanks six and six with eight pointson this season, I went three
(45:58):
penny. Yet I went three anda couple of weeks ago with four point
weeks. So I'm nine to threewith twelve points. Give me your first
pick, all right, my firstpick. This is my low hanging fruit
of the week. I wouldn't besurprised with you at this game too,
But um aids and Astros getting togethertoday, that seems like a lop sided
affair. Now minus one ninety fivethere, according to what the book I
(46:21):
used to look at these numbers, minus three sixty five, minus three sixty
five is that even possible? Dude? If you go minus two sec five,
you know you're probably gonna be likegetting like a quarter point. I'll
come on, I thought one wasthe lowest you could get. Let's go
with that. One is the lowestyou can know you get if you're two
minus two hundred and above. It'sa half a point, all right,
(46:42):
get back to me on my face. I'll give you my underdog, all
right, Brewers and Brewers and Rays, all right, Freddie perraulta jail and
beaks. Brewers are plus one twentytwo. They lost the first two games
of the series. I think theywin one against the Rays even though the
Rays are the best team in baseballright now. So give me the Brewers
as my underdog today, plus onetwenty two, all right. Cool,
So I'm gonna go with my favorite. I'm gonna go Diamondbacks minus one twenty
(47:05):
five at the Pirates. So farthey've split the series. Meryl Kelly against
Contraris. Today, I'll put mymoney on Meryl Kelly bus one twenty five
in Pittsburgh to pull out the wbecause guess what, it's gonna be the
last one in the next few days, all right, I like it have
of the Yankees and the Reds.Pretty good pitching matchup between the two today,
Hunter Green and Louisa. I wasabout to go on the over,
(47:28):
but judges out of the lineup today. Well, so, I see it's
funny you say that, because Ithought that seemed a little high at nine
and so that makes you say toyourself, go ahead, go go go
over. But I'm an idiot,so I'm gonna take the under under nine.
I like to hear the judges inthe lineup. I didn't know that,
so under nine Yankees reds. Let'shope that both pitchers have it going,
(47:49):
much like you didn't know our scoringsystem either. But it's the details
I don't pay attention to. Allright, my underdog is going to be
Orioles plus one sixty five at theBlue Jays heavy dogs against Kevin Gosman.
Today. I saw that they've wonthe first two in the series. There's
seven three in the last ten.I'm going with the Orioles Man. That
team right there. They can rake, they can hit. They may be
(48:13):
able to wear down Kevin Gosman. The Phillies couldn't a couple of weeks ago,
but they did get to win thatgame. I think the Oris are
gonna be able to speak out justenough against the divisional opponent against the Toronto
Blue Jays, And I'll give youmy over under while I'm waiting for you
to make another pick. While you'retrying to cheat with a minus three eighty
five favorite. Well, you knowmy overunder is not over nine and a
half today? Okay? Between theRoyals and the White Sox in the South
(48:37):
side of Chicago, Carlos Hernandez withthe four point zero nine ear A Lance
Lamb with a six point six sixRara. Game time temps today around seventy
degrees. I got the ball flyingout of the ballpark today on the South
side over nine and a half.Murph. All right, did you pick
out a new favorite? Here's mynew favorite, San Diego and the Red
(48:58):
Sox getting together Padres or minus onefifty five in this one. Give me
the Padres. I've got no reasonsother than I don't like the Red Sox
and Padres are pretty good. Sothere you go. And this is why
I don't gamble for real. Canyou believe it? My pounds of water
(49:32):
six to five? And the wildthings rbihead Can you believe it? Can
you believe it? Two things wefound interesting this past week in Major League
Baseball? Murph, I will giveyou my first one. This one's courtesy
is Sarah Lynes, and I teaseit earlier. Okay, yeah, yeah
(49:53):
you did. I did so withMax Scherzer and Justin Verlander the Mets would
be the first team to start pitcherswho each who have each won three plus
Cy Youngs in both ends of adouble header. In fact, they're the
only team to start pitchers who hadeven won two plus Cy Young Awards in
a doubleheader. Is also the Mets. They did it the last two games
(50:16):
the Phillies ever played at Shay StadiumPedro Martinez versus Jamie Moyer in the day
and then Sunday night baseball Johan Santanaversus Cole Hamlets. That September seventh,
two thousand and eight. I wasat that. I was there for both
and I wound up because I hada big giant Chase Utley Dcal in the
back of my ninety five GMC Jimmy. I came out after the nightcat and
(50:38):
the side view mirror on my truckwas knocked off. Yeah, I was
the electrical chord and I had toput it back in and drive home in
the rain with the cord so therain was coming in through the side window.
It was a fantastic day. Yeah, great night, a great night.
Yeah, that's a good one.I did see that earlier. By
the way, they just showed apromo for the Naked Gun on NLB Network
(50:59):
coming up, and uh, youknow what, you can put that on
the top. Absolutely, yeah, all right, there's another one, airplane.
See there's too many. All right, here's my my first one.
When we think about Nolan Arronado, you think about defense very often, right,
because he's one of the best thirdbasements to ever play the game.
How about this with his one thousandcareer RBI, one thousand career artist,
(51:23):
