(00:50):

Radio app and you can listen tous anywhere crystal Clear worldwide. This is
Chris Sack of Green Legion Radio broadcastingto you live from the iHeart Radio studios
in ballet Kinwood, Pennsylvania. Andfor once, I am not jealous of

(01:10):
my co host in his position ashe is in as far as Cup would
say, our nation's capital. Philliesbroadcaster Greg Murphy. What's up, Murphy?
Are we doing this morning? Oh? We're doing great another Sunday morning
following a Phillies win. Um,and uh, you know all as well
in the world. And yeah,I'm here at Nationals Park, high above

(01:33):
the field, here at National's Park, and hoping that the Phillis could put
another decent ball game together and finishup this road trip with two straight wins.
It'd be nice. I know somepeople aren't happy with the press level
accommodations there at National's Park. Wheredo you stand on that? It's it's
too high. It makes you know, it makes the job of calling the

(01:56):
game. You know, I'm notcalling the game on a daily basis,
but Scott and Time and those guys, it's it's a difficult place to call
a game because the perspective and Idon't know if people on stream yard can
see it, but we are wayway up there, and you know,
it's hard to tell the difference sometimesbetween a line drive and a and a
groundball, like a hard hit groundballthat maybe a one hopper through the gap

(02:17):
and stuff. So you know,it is what it is. I guess
you get used to it, youand you deal with it. But there
are better press boxes, broadcast boothsaround they driven baseball that's for sure.
I've always said in Nationals Ballpark, and a Nationals Park is a baseball stadium
that looks like a spaceship with parkinggarages attached to it. You know,

(02:39):
it's funny because when they first builtit, and and you know, you
had to be I guess bendy midwayup in the ballpark. But when they
first built it, there was areally cool view of the capital and a
lot of you know, the differentmonuments around. But now that the construction
has all kind of happened in andaround the ballpark, the area is kind

(02:59):
of cool, but you can't seeanything anymore that kind of tells you that
you're in Washington, DC. AndI think that's a little disappointing. I
understand why it happens. Obviously. What they've done here in the neighborhood has
been pretty spectacular. Have restaurants andbars and apartments and all of that,
which is which is cool. Thestorage Contanna Bar? Did they still have
the storage and Tana Bar down there? They? Yes, My daughter went

(03:21):
there last night. As a matterof fact, I said, of all
these places you could go through, that's where you went. But but she's
twenty three, so that's what theydo. Right. If she wants to
drink beers and storage and terres, you could just come over to my yard
in Philadelphia. You know that probablyhave enough storage and terrans on where you
can drink right there, do itfor free, she said, She said,
it's a lot of fun. Iguess there was a time in my

(03:43):
life I would have thought that wasfun too, but that time has passed
at this point, no doubt aboutit. Hey, let's talk about our
friends, because this, uh,this first segment is brought to you by

subject to State Farm underwriting requirements.Okay, let's go ahead. Let's dive
in here before we talk about theweek that was for our Philadelphia Phillies and
is this going to be what thisseason is meant to be or are we
going to right the ship sooner ratherthan later. We'll dress that here in

(04:46):
a couple of months. As wego out of the box, let's give
away a couple of tickets here forPhillies Royals on Saturday, August fifth at
six ZHO five. Yes, aSaturday game, which means you can hang
out, you know, enjoy yourself. You don't have to worry about the
midweek game that I've been giving itto everybody so far this season out of
my season ticket plan. UM,I will be coming home from Um,
I'm coming home from Minnesota that dayas I fly out, and I knock

(05:09):
off ball Park number twenty one targetfield the day before, so I'm not
going to be able to use them. So might as well just give them
away to somebody else that can enjoythem. So Murph, listen. I
don't know what kind of you know, stuff you like to get yourself into
when you know, when you're notworking, but you know you have the
voice for it. I've always wondered, you know, are you a crooner?

(05:29):
Are you the type of guy thatlikes to go out there? You're
at a karaoke night, a karaokebar? Do you enjoy the sing?
So that's why today's topic you goto karaoke song? All right, yeah,
I love it, um And Andto answer your question, yeah,
I kind of I do. Ilove this thing. Um. My father
is a has a beautiful singing voice, so as always, you know,

(05:53):
throughout my whole childhood, and Ican sing a little bit um and that's
not nearly as good as him.But but yeah, over the years,
I've I've gotten up on stage anddone a couple of tunes here and there,
and uh, karaokes a lot offun. I generally have to have
a few pops in me first beforeI have the courage, no doubt,

(06:13):
YE do it. But uh,but I always this was an easy list
for me. I was able toput together because I do have a couple
of go toos for sure. Okay, so why don't you, why don't
you give us one of your fiveand then we'll get the rest of your
five in the last segment when weaward the tickets, drop this one.

(06:33):
You know, I'm a Jimmy Buffettfan, and Jimmy Buffett, I mean,
you're talking about good karaoke. Ifyou're out in the like at a
bar outside and you want to getget the crowd going, Jimmy is the
way to go. And uh,you know, they don't always have all
of his deepest cuts, but aneasy one is Margaritaville. It's an easy
one to sing first and foremost, and it always gets the crowd going.

(06:56):
It's a lot of fun. SoMargaritaville. If if you see me out
down the shore and we're out ata beach bar somewhere and they're karaoke in,
yeah, pretty good chance you'll seeme singing Margaritaville. There were odds
on a sports book today that youwere going to choose Margaritaville on your top
five lists. I would have wona lot of money. I would have
put the I would have put thehouse on it, no doubt about it.
For me, Murphy. I sangthis to my wife at her wedding.

(07:18):
Um, you know, she didn'twant to do She did not want
to do the bouquet, she didn'twant to do the garter. And I
told her. I was like, listen, I was like, I'm gonna
do something stupid if we're not goingto go the traditional route. And She's
like, well, what are yougonna do? And I'm like, oh,
So I wound up and I didit again on our honeymoon because we
were at a place I was doingkaraoke that night. I wanted that way

(07:39):
by the Backstreet boys, you know, like a yeah, it's it's a
good one. It's easy to sing, and man, the ladies love it.
They enjoy it. Um. Youknow, nine years ago was when
I got married. I was alot thinner, I had better hair,
um you know, so like, you know, I guess you could kind
of relate me to being somewhat ofa backstreet boy at the time. But
uh, but that's fallen by theway for the years. But I still

(08:01):
will bust that tune out, nodoubt about it. If the time ever
were to arise, I gotta askreal quick, was John Jansen? I
saved this where when John Jansen wasproducing the show. Jansen, you gotta
give me yours because I know youlove singing Iris by the Google Dolls.
You gotta give me the one thatyou would sing. What do you got?
Chansonhis Walking in Memphis? The Walkingin Memphis says it's the only one

(08:26):
he's ever done, and Sam,you could put yours up there too.
I'll read it off once once weget into it, but make sure you
guys go to our Facebook live, the green Legion Facebook Live, our green
Legion Radio YouTube channel, or ourTwitter handle at green Legion. Our collective
favorite answer will win at the beginningof the final segment. Murph, listen,
we have a little bit of funat the beginning of the show,
and we're gonna have a lot offun throughout the course of the show.

(08:50):
But it has not been a funweek for our fight and Fills, to
say the very least, which whichhad a lot of promise last Sunday on
our show when we were together, when you were down in Atlanta and um,
you know, they were set totake three to four in Atlanta and
we were feeling pretty good about thatnight, even though we were going up
against Spencer Strider. And then youknow, Sunday night happens with Dylan Covee
and and then you know, wego to New York and we get swept

(09:13):
by the Mets, and then youknow, you, Zach Wheeler pitches three
and two thirds innings and gives upseven runs on Friday night, and it
just feels like when you when youstart to feel the momentum starting to swing
on the upside, we get hitwith a week like this and it's been
pretty rough, and you could see. The good thing is is the Braves.

(09:33):
This week they struggled into Oakland, they lost two out of three,
and and you know they've they've splitso far in Arizona, so the Phillies
have only lost one game in theNational League standings. We went from seven
back to eight back. But it'scrunch time now, man. I know,
I know it's it's June, it'searly June. But for the love
of God, I don't know aboutyou, but I'm getting sick and tired
of hearing about it being early June. Oh, and I think that talk

(09:56):
is over at this point. Sac. I think you're right. You know
know, is it I don't know, crunch time maybe not. You know,
maybe that's a little bit later inthe summer, but it is not
early anymore, you're correct. AndI don't think any of the guys in
that clubhouse or are kind of hangingtheir hat on it's early anymore either.
I certainly know Rob Thompson's not um. He's had a couple of conversations with

(10:18):
the with the media and uh andwith the clubhouse that you know, it's
time, guys. We we gotto figure it out, and we got
to figure it out quickly. You'reright, it was a tough week.
I mean, what happened in NewYork if it's really kind of a head
scratcher that, you know, whenyou look at the talent level between the
New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies. I mean it's even for sure,

(10:41):
if not tipped in the favor ofthe Philadelphia Phillies, I would you know,
maybe I'm being a little bit ofof a homer there, but certainly
the domination that the Mets have hadover the Phillies is almost impossible to figure
out. You know, this isbaseball. It's not supposed to be that

(11:01):
one sided. It rarely is thatone sided, and especially two teams that
have a rivalry, two teams thatknow each other, two teams that have
similar talent. The imbalance between thePhillies and the Nets on the field right
now is remarkable, and I don'thave an explanation for it, and it's
frustrating, and I know it's frustratingfor the guys in that clubhouse. Certainly

(11:22):
it's frustrating for the fans to watch. They need to figure that out because
that could be that could be thereason that they don't make the post season
and this year if they can't figureout how to beat the Mets on a
much more consistent basis. So youknow, they played well in Atlanta,
they played decent in Atlanta, andthey got two out of four down there,
and hopefully they get two out ofthree here in Washington. But you

(11:43):
know, you're still gonna come homeon the road trip even with a win
today at four and six. AndI think when we left on this particular
trip with ten games in front, you thought to yourself, five and five,
okay, six and four would begreat, and they're not going to
get there again. So it isdisappointing. For sure. Are the Phillies
aware of their struggles against the Mets, Like is it something that you could

(12:03):
tell, like being around the team, being in the clubhouse, you know,
around the guys, Like are isthere frustration level at the same like
peak as hours is watching it asfans knowing that, like you know,
we're getting handled. I mean, what four and fifteen last year against the
Mets. We're starting out oh andthree this year, and previously before that,

(12:24):
the Mets have had our number forlike it feels like the last five
six years now, regardless of howtalented they are, how talented we are,
it just feels like we talked aboutthis on the show last week,
Murph about like how competitive a Phillieshave been against the Braves since the end
of twenty eighteen, you know whatthirty nine and thirty nine now, I
mean, the Phillies have played theBraves tighter and better than any other team

(12:46):
in Major League Baseball since the endof twenty eighteen. But we just can't
seem to get it done against theMets. And it's not like you know,
the Mets, Yeah, we facedSharzer in the last game that series,
but it's not like they went ScherzerVerlander. You know, you look
at their lineup, it's like, once you get past Alonzo, I looked
at the five through nine, I'mlook, who are some of these guys,
and it's just Mark Cannab. Mygod, this guy kills us,

(13:09):
kills us every little time, especiallyNola. Yeah, you know, it's
it's funny because they helped Peter Alonzoin check for the most part, they
help Lindor in check for the mostpart. They did a good job against
Nimmo. And those are guys thatyou think, you know, all right,
if they're gonna be high, youknow that that lineup can be pretty
good. But it was the guysat the bottom of the lineup that that

(13:31):
continue. And I think if yougo back last year, I mean,
certainly Pete Alonzo killed the Phillies lastyear, but also that back end of
the lineup did their damage as well. To answer your original question, you
know, I do think one thingthat fans have to keep in mind,
This idea that the players aren't asfrustrated as the fans is just incorrect.

(13:54):
That is a group of guys downthere that are beyond frustrated, and they're
they're talking to one another about itall the time. I had an interesting
conversation with Garrett Stubbs. I guesswhen we first arrived here here in DC
and we were talking a little bitabout you know, actually maybe it was
when we were in New York,I forget, but we were talking just

(14:16):
about that particular topic, and hesaid, look, you know, we're
in there all of the time, going guys, we gotta figure this out.
This is not acceptable. Look aroundthe talent in this room. We
are better than this. I mean, these are the conversations the players are
having with one another. And youknow, it's not like they don't understand,

(14:37):
and it's not as if they don'tcare. They certainly do. And
again, you know, I askedGarrett if if it was a positive or
a negative that they were able todo what they did last year to make
a run at the World Series afterbeing you know, ten games under five
hundred this time of the year lastyear. I said, is that a

(14:58):
positive because you can look back anddrawing that experience, or is it a
negative because you're kind of kind ofhanging your hat on it kind of you
know what I mean? And theanswer was interesting, He looks at it
as a positive because he said,at the end of the day, we
know, for the most part, you know, the group of guys is

(15:18):
a very similar group of guys.We know we have the ability to make
a run. The problem is wejust don't know when it's going to start.
And he said, you know,we needed to start now, and
hopefully today they get another win, they come home, they play Detroit,
they play against them, Well, you know, then the Dodgers are come
into town. But it needs tostart now, and they need to start

(15:41):
winning series again, and they needto start putting a win win streaks together,
four out of five, six outof seven kind of thing. And
they need to do that a little, not a little bit, a lot
more consistently going through June and July. And on yesterday was the one year
anniversary of the Phillies firing Joe Girardiand you know, making interim manager Rob

(16:02):
Thompson at the time. You know, listen, after fifty eight games last
season, the Phillies were twenty nineand twenty nine. This year they're twenty
six and thirty two, so they'rea little bit more behind the eight ball
as compared to last year. Rightaround this time, there's been a lot
of criticism, you know, listeningto sports talk radio. You know,
throughout the course of the week,I've actually turned it off and been listening

(16:23):
to more rock and roll than radiostations this week. But you know,
I'm saying that we're on a sportstalk radio show. But uh, you
know, I had to kind ofget away from it and unplug myself from
it because, you know, peopletrying to call for the head or Rob
Thompson one year after the fact isa little a little insane to me.
I mean, like I get DaveDombrowski, you know, no, absolutely,

(16:47):
Murphy. I look at it fromthis context too. What manager in
the right mind is going to wantto take this job when the last two
got canned within a year of eachother. If that were the case,
there's no stability to try and getyourself through the rough waters. I mean,
I think we Girardi had the twentytwenty season twenty twenty one in the
beginning of part of last year,so it made sense. But man,
it is just it is just completelyasinine. The sports takes from some of

(17:11):
the hosts as well as the callersto these stations that Rob Thompson has lost
his touch, you're around the teamevery day. You could sense his frustration
and he's really starting trying to getthe wheels turning in that clubhouse. This
is from what I what I readwith Rob too, and you know,
I think it was right after theMets series, and he was saying about
how these guys are grinding day inand day out. Maybe they need to

(17:34):
take a day and kind of getaway from the grind because it's it's kind
of like your final exams in school, like when you're doing too much with
it, you tend to overthink inand overdo it. Maybe they just need
to take a step back and youknow, maybe not do batting practice one
day, you know, just kindof kind of take a step back from
it and just allow yourself to rediscoverit naturally. What's your thought on Topper
and on that side of things.Okay, So, first of all,

(17:57):
John Jason, Mark the tape,Chris Sack, the voice of reason here
on this Sunday afternoon everything you justsaid, yeah, yes a thousand times.
First of all, been here.It hasn't been a year since uh
Rob Thompson. I mean it's beena year since he took over, but

(18:18):
it's only been six months since youled him to the World Series. You
know, it's it's you use theword assinine, I will agree, well
wholeheartedly the idea that that that isthe issue here. It is not.
Um, you know, the issuehere is that the guys that you need
to play at a high level, for the most part, have not played

(18:41):
at a high level. And Istill believe here on what June fourth,
that that is going to change. There's plenty of time for that to change.
And uh, and I think itwill. I don't know what the
numbers are, but they're about threeand a half games out of the wild
card right now. Um, fourand a half, eight games, yeah,
something like that. Yeah, andthen the Braids. I mean again,

(19:03):
it's to me, it's it's waytoo early to even be looking at
that kind of thing. Um.So yeah, the team just needs to
play better. And and every singleguy in that clubhouse, coaches, players,
training staff will tell you the exactsame thing. And it's not rocket
sacks. If they don't play better, they won't make the postseason. If

(19:23):
they play better, they probably willmake the postseason. And uh, you
know, if I had to betright now, I think they're gonna play
better. And uh, you know, they're like I said, there's there's
so much talent down there, andthis idea that Rob has lost this touch,
or that Dave Dombrowski all of asudden doesn't know what he's doing.
I mean, it's just ridiculous.It's it's borderline. Well, it's ridiculous,

(19:48):
and I'll leave it at that.So I don't have time for that
kind of nonsense. I really don't, And and it just makes me shake
my head and move on. Umwhen I when I hear something like that,
I'm just glad that I'm not theone that's stoking the nonsense. It's
it's it's funny. My wife yesterday, she's we're over my parents' house and
she's like, uh, if theydon't win this game today, Chris is
probably gonna go off the rails tomorrow. My Dad's like, Murphy'll keep him

(20:11):
in check. Hey, I didn'thave to. You know, big picture
is the way to look at abaseball season, and uh, you know,
it's been it hasn't been pretty sofar. This picture that we've we've
gotten. But again, there's time. There's time, and and if at
the end of the season, ifwe're in September and they're not in the

(20:33):
postseason hunt, I'll be surprised. But but at that point, that's when
you can start to say, okay, why, what were the reasons?
And and I still think it's goingto be inside that clubhouse and probably at
the feet of the players at thatpoint. Um. But but at that
point, if you want to startasking questions, okay, but not now.

(20:53):
Not now. In the National Leagueright now is completely jam packed two
everybody is contending for a spot. The Phillies are four and a half out
of a wildcard spot right now,and in the last place team in the
National League, the Saint Louis Cardinalsare six out. So really all it
takes is one week out of anyof these teams and they're in a wildcard
spot. So you know, anythingcan happen. You just gotta stay confident

(21:15):
and stay consistent. And like yousaid, they have to get today,
they have to win today, andthen they have to come home and they
have to handle their business against theTigers, and then we go in against
the Dodgers and you got to taketwo or three out of that series.
But you know, don't hang outalone in the main cave for Baseball this
season, try hanging out at Cheerleaderswith sexy entertainers, four dollars, domestic
beers, Jamison specials, and awesomegame day experiences all season long. That's

(21:36):
right. Stop in before, during, or after the game, not only
to see your favorite entertainers, butalso your chance to have the best game
day experience. Cheerleaders is open dailyfrom noon until two a. And coming
up on the other side, weneed to get an injury report on some
of our fighting fills, and we'regonna go around the league and man,
there is some weird stuff going onin Major League Baseball and outside of Major

(21:57):
League Baseball. We're gonna actually havea hockey topic in the around the League
segment right here on bud Light BaseballBrunch on one or two point five Fox
Sports. The Gambler will be rightback after this The Gambler Phillies home for
all things sports gambling, welcome back. Second segment here and is beautiful Sunday

(22:26):
in the Delaware Valley. Hopefully it'sjust as beautiful down there in Washington,
d C. For our Fighting Phillsas we look to pick up another w
back to back that's called a windstreak Hopefully the Phillies can pull that off
today down down in all Nations Capital. This segments brought to you by our

(22:47):
friends at the Luvelum Hotel in SeattleCity at four thousand Landis Avenue in Seattle
City. Yes, it's the allDa Costa and it's that time of year
to get back down to the shoreand enjoy yourself. The hotel is in
year round and all guests enjoy freeWi Fi, one free parking spot per

(23:07):
Check them out at Ludlam Hotel dotcom. That's Ludlum lud Lam Hotel dot
com. We'll call them at sixzero nine two six three seventy two nine.
That's six zero nine two six threeseventy two nine for all your reservation,
dining or entertainment questions. The LudlamHotel your new oasis in Sea Isle
City. All right, Murph, let's get an injury report here because we've
had some happenings going on with ourfight and fills. Hopefully we're getting them

(23:32):
back on the field soon, Solet's go over a couple of things before
we get around the league and havesome topics here. Um, you know,
God, the world of baseball justcontinue. It's a gift that keeps
on giving the whole year, Clark. But let's get an update. Jose
Alvarado had a rehab assignment in LehighValley last night. UM, tell us

(23:52):
how we worked out? All right? You know you just froze there between.
You just asked about Jose Alvarado.Yeah I didn't here, but yeah,
gone from all accounts. Uh,pretty darn good last night for Jose
Alvarado at the Lee High Valley.I didn't go back and look at his
numbers, but I did see acouple of highlights. I know he had

(24:14):
a strikeout in his first in hisfirst batter. He was only going to
pitch one inning, And as longas you know, the results are important,
obviously, I think he was touchingninety seven ninety eight yesterday. But
the results are important. But mostimportant is the report they'll get today,
and that is, you know, how does he feel coming out of that.
I think we expect that he'll bejust fine, probably do one more

(24:37):
rehab start down there in the LehighValley and then and be back. So
that won't happen today, could happentomorrow, I guess, and then perhaps
we see Jose back and active asearly as Game two or three of the
Detroit series. Awesome, it'd begreat to have that big gun at the
back end of the bullpend once again. The bullpen's pitched. Well, it's
really it really has, you know. And giving up that run the other

(25:02):
night in an eight seven game, the eight seven lost and uh, you
know, Dylan Covie. You know, we'll see how much longer he's on
the team, beyond beyond yesterday orbefore Alvarado comes back up. Alec boone
was placed on the ten day Il Um. I guess it was his
right hamstring string going on there.Hamstrings are fickle. They're not something that

(25:22):
you really want to mess with.Um. But is this something that we're
looking at with bone being out forshort term or is this going to be
a long term thing. Well,I think they believe it'll be short term.
Um, you know, again, you never know. As you pointed
out, the hamstring can be afickle uh injury for sure, but um,

(25:45):
you know they they when they puthim on the I L they made
it retroactive a couple of days priorand they said they expected it to be
a short stint on the injured list, so hopefully he's back in the ten
day period and back out on thefield and probably at that point wouldn't need
to go out and they can rehabstart. I wouldn't think having only this
a short period of time, SoI think the thought process at this point

(26:10):
is get him off his feet, knock out, you know, knock out
the tightness that he had in thathamstring with a couple of days rest,
and then bring him back and hopefullyhe's healthy for the rest of the season.
So it certainly nothing that the teamis overly concerned about, and you
just hope that it, you know, does its natural progression, heals itself
in the next couple of days andhe's back sooner than later. And Tywan

(26:32):
Walker left his start early velocity issueson Thursday against the Mets. You figure
it against his former team, he'dwant to, you know, show them
you'll stick it to him, like, hey, this is this is what
you decide to let go. Buthis his fastball velocity was down, so
he was struggling that day. Arewe are we gonna miss him in his
next start? Is he gonna makehis next turn to the rotation, because

(26:52):
if we if we miss anybody nowand to starting rotation, the way things
are going, the fillers are inbig trouble. I mean, as we've
seen. I mean they that hadto do a bullpen game the last couple
of times a fifth spot in therotation turns around. Uh, they're two
and nine this season when the fifthspot in the rotation is there now after
yesterday's wum so, I guess itis a two part question here, Tom
one Walker. Is he going tomiss anytime his next spot in the rotation?

(27:17):
And how come we're not letting youknow, maybe Mick Abele or Griff
McGarry go through some growing pains uphere and take over that fifth starter role
and just they throw them to thefire and let's see what they can do
out there. Yeah, I meanthe latter part of the question. First,
those guys just they're just not readyyet. You know, Nick as
I believe, is still being stretchedout at this point. I think his

(27:41):
last start maybe he went three inningsor something like that, so he's not
even you know, quite ready topitch as a starting pitcher. And I
think Griff is, you know,he's had some good success so far,
and he's had some games where hehasn't had success as well. I mean,
these are young guy and they justdon't want to rush him. You
know. Andrew Painter is a littlebit of a different story, is kind

(28:04):
of you know, that that unicorn, that unique guy that we look at
and think, okay, you know, he could jump up here and pitch
at age nineteen, twenty twenty onekind of thing and has success. But
obviously his injury has kept him frombeing able to do that. So those
guys aren't ready yet. Dave Debrowskiaddressed that earlier this week, and he
said, you know, they're justnot an option at this point. Not

(28:26):
to say they won't be an optionyou know, three or four weeks from
now, but at this moment, they're not really options. Uh, They're
they're still trying to figure out whatthe rest of their options are. Um,
Taimad Walker is fine. You know, he came out of that game.
We wondered perhaps if there was somethingailing him. They were very quick
to say nope. You know,Taiwan said it right after the game.

(28:48):
Rob said it right after the game. Rob said it again yesterday. You
know, because he continues to beasked about it. Taiwan's fine. There's
no reason to think he's not gonnamake his next start, so which is
good news. I mean, toyour point, they need these guys to
be making their starts. There's justso many innings to cover and not enough
arms right now to do it.And that's kind of where they're at right

(29:10):
now. How long can they staywith the bullpen situation? I mean it
was it certainly worked well yesterday, right. I mean, you guys pretty
much through pitch very well. Butit is a difficult thing to do because
if you get a short outing froma starter at any point leading into the
bullpen game, it really does changelots of things. So if you knew,
if you knew you were going toget six seven innings from all your
starters every fifth day, you probablycould do a bullpen game. But you

(29:33):
just don't know that, so itmakes it a little bit more challenging.
I talked to Dave Nebraski on Tuesday, and the first thing he said to
me was, we've got to figureout our fifth starter spot. They were
his That was a quote, wehave to figure the fifth starter spot out.
They're they're trying, you know, they're they're working on it, but
you know, there are limited optionsout there for sure. So you know,

(29:56):
hopefully we can they're the fi canweather the storm and uh and get
through this particular time and then figureout that Fitch spot option. But you
know, right now, it's it'sa challenge for Rob Thompson and his staff.
Absolutely is all right. So let'slet's get into some around the league
stuff here, and I want tostart out in South Philadelphia, where the
Phillies announced this week that Hall ofFame third baseman Scott Roland, former GM

(30:21):
John Quinn, and former owner RuleyCarpenter will be inducted into the team's Wall
of Fame this summer. However,Roland won't be inducted on Alumni Weekend like
every other Wall of Famer over theyears, as a celebration will take place
on September twenty second. First off, this is long overdue for Roland.
In my opinion, that Roland wasa great player. Here he said what

(30:41):
other players had said over the yearsand over the course of time. Actually,
Kurt Schilling is on the Wall ofFame, and Kurt Schilling is,
like he said worse things than Rolandsaid about the ownership in the front office
group at that time, and they'reunwillingness to spend to put a solid product
on the field. But we treatScott Rowland like he is JD. Drew

(31:03):
around here. I mean like Idon't have the understanding for me on my
end. I mean maybe because Iwas I was younger at the time.
I mean when yeah ninety seven,I was eleven years old when he won
the Rookie of the Year, Buthe was my favorite player at the time.
I love Scott Roland. I'm happythat he's going into the Wall of
Fame, but it's a little alittle weird that he's not going to be
going in on alumni weekend like everyother one. Uh yeah, I guess

(31:30):
I'd be honest with it. Ididn't even really take I didn't even know
that. Um so it's glad youcome. Philly's on deck and the round
table on the wall. I justdidn't realize that he was gonna win in
September. I made the assumption thathe'd go on with everybody else, But
um, to me, you know, okay, well, I'm sure there's

(31:52):
a reason. I'm sure there's agood reason why that's happening, and for
whatever that reason is, it isfine with me. Does he belong,
Yeah, I think he belongs forsure. It was a terrific player.
I mean, if the if theidea is you played in the Phillies uniform
for I think it's three minimum ofthree years, uh, and had a

(32:13):
distinguished career, then you're you know, you're eligible for the Wall of Fame.
Certainly Scott Roland fits that bill. And uh, you know you mentioned
we treat him like JD. Drew. Maybe we shouldn't treat JD. Drew
the way we treat That's valid, that's valid. No, not the not
the batteries. Not the batteries. But you know that's the venom is.

(32:34):
It's completely fine. I've got noissue with that. But the batteries were
unnecessary. But I and I dobecause I think it's silly. But but
that's just me. That's the wayI look at it. Um. You
know, there was a guy thatat that time did not want to play
for the Phillies organization for whatever reasonshe had. Okay, well you know
he went on, he made hisdecision, he went on, had a

(32:54):
half decent career, mediocre career, and and and goes off into the sunset.
I mean, no skin off mynose. I don't really care.
Um, So you know, itis what it is, and you know,
I'm happy for Scott. I coveredScott when he was a writing Philly.
He was the very first person inmy entire television career that I interviewed

(33:17):
live on TV. And I happento have a photo of that that moment.
Yeah, yeah, like dumb completelydumb luck. I was so nervous
and so scared that I completely screwedup the interview and I don't even think
I remembered my name when I wastrying to sign off. I was literally
that nervous, Hi, this isMurphy Greg. Yeah, it was something

(33:39):
like that. I mean of that. But but the still shot that someone
happened to take a fan happy totake and give to me, like a
couple months later, I still haveand and it reminds me of that special
moment. So look good for Scott. The Wall of Fame is is a
cool honor here in Philadelphia, andthere are so many different people that have

(34:01):
made contributions to this organization over theyears that deserve to be on that wall,
and hopefully they all get up thereat some point, and whether they
be players, front office, um, you know, in my opinion,
broadcaster or two that probably deserves tobe up there. Yeah, damn for
sure. Right Yeah. So anyway, I'm happy for Scott Roland and uh

(34:25):
and it'll be a great time wheneverhe gets up on that wall, it'll
be It'll be a nice night, absolutely so, mur I know you were
working yesterday, but did you seethe walk off for the White Sox against
the Tigers? Did I did?Wow? You talk about getting to drop?
Yeah, well, as long ashe's okay, it had hilarity to

(34:46):
it. But I mean, thinkabout that that ninety seven great smack between
the eyes. Um, you know, that's that's going to drop anybody,
and it certainly dropped the home plate. Umpire, What way to walk off
the game. But I've never seenanything like it, I know, but
I've got some good ones were canyou believe it? This week? But

(35:06):
I have to put this one outthere, Okay, this is This is
courtesy of Jay Kuda on Twitter.Yesterday games in which both teams scored but
neither team had an RBI. Yesterday'soccurrence, with the White Sox beating the
Tigers two to one is the firsttime that's happened since September eighteenth, nineteen
eighty the Yankees, the Blue Jaysand the Yankees. The blue Jays beat
the Yankees. That the other occurrencesseventy eight, seventy four, sixty seven,

(35:30):
nineteen twenty three. That's how frequentsomething like that has happened. Yeah,
that's that's cool. That's a coolstat And yeah, crazy right the
way that that played out. Butyou know, like I said, you
know, hopefully the whole played umpireis okay. And and because at that
point then we can kind of gaggleabout it. What was it me or
did it look like the catcher wassetting up low? I mean he was

(35:52):
down in like a you know,JT. Crouch. He had the legs
sticking out the inside, and itkind of looked like rate before the pitchers
own. He kind of patted hisglove down. So I think that fast
bounds meant and it it just ittook off right into the empire. It's
like, yeah, it had ithad such late life, and it almost

(36:13):
looked like it went up to theright. I mean, I'm sure it
didn't go up, but but itwould certainly looked like it was rising.
And yeah, the catcher was setdown low, was meant to be low,
and outside comes up and in andhe was just late getting his glove
up there. But wow, youknow that's like a punch from Mike Tyson
between the eyeball. So this one, yeah, and this one's fun.

(36:37):
This was not major league baseball, but it's something that you know, you
come across on Twitter throughout the courseof your week. So non baseball here,
but with the Stanley Cup finals goingon between the Vegas Golden Knights and
the Florida Panthers, it Las VegasStrip Club is offering the players of the
Golden Knights free lap dances for lifeif they win to Stanley Cup. Motivation
comes in many different ways. Thismay be enough for them to come out

(36:59):
on top or on the bottom, depending on how you look at it.
Uh. Yeah, I did seethat story and and and it made me
laugh. Um, you know, good for that particular business to now be
being talked about all over the country, and that's really what it's all about,
right, Yeah, you know alittle bit of advertising goes a long

(37:19):
way. Um. I'd like toI wonder if they would get a card
or how that would work. AndI don't want to go any further on
that, but uh, but youknow what good for good for Vegas?
You go nights, right? Ithink I think I saw Quimby on ice
case the other day. Do youdo you think he's tried to that one.

(37:46):
I had to. I had tobreak out in the air for us,

(38:57):
Yeah, you final segment here onbud Light Baseball Brunch brought to you by
Cheerleaders Gentlemen's Club, Philadelphia. Justgotta let this play out a little bit
fine. I want it that way, Murph. You know that's he did.

(39:21):
I can't hear that exactly because youmissed, Yeah, you missed Marguerita
Ville and coming back at the youknow, going into the second segment and
now he's doing my karaoke song.I'd like to send out a special thanks
to our friends over at Echelon Healthand Fitness for having us yesterday from twelve
to two for our broadcast with Eaglesand NFL legendary wide receiver Irving Friar was

(39:45):
the grand opening over at Echelon Healthand Fitness at one thirty Black Horse Bike
in Audubon, New Jersey. Makesure you guys go over and sign up
with them today. Jeff Quinn, great dude, great time yesterday. The
venue is beautiful. Make you guysgo check them out again. One thirty
black Horse Pike in Audubon, NewJersey. You can give them a call.
Eight five six four five four twonine seven six. That's eight five

(40:08):
six four five four two nine sevensix. All right, let's awards and
tickets here. Go to karaoke song. You're probably wondering why we're playing Backstreet
Boys. I want it that wayon a baseball show, which is not
just a baseball show. Yes,there you go, keep it going,
keep it going. Not just abaseball show. It is the pre eminent

(40:28):
baseball show in the Delaware Valley whereyou don't get this kind of insight anywhere
else then right here with Chris Sacker, Green Legion Radio and Phillis broadcaster Greg
Murphy. Murphy, we got somegood entries that we can go over here,
So why don't you give me therest of your top five. You've
already given me, Marguerite of Ville, give me your other four, all
right. Yeah, So micro terryis pretty simple. It has to be

(40:51):
a relatively easy song to sing, and I think it has to be a
song that the crowd knows and canget into. Correct. Those are my
creteria and and and you know,I would imagine most people feel that way.
I hate when the karaokee folk getsup there and sing some obscure like
song that nobody knows and they're justup there because they want to hear themselves
say, like like a slow likethe slowest song of all time. You

(41:15):
can do a slow song, butit has to be the right song,
right Like I don't have any ofthose of my worfe's the party going.
That's what karaoke is. It's it'sit's the party. You can bring the
energy. I agree, all right, So hopefully you'll agree with the rest
of my top five. Um,all right, no particular order I gave
you. Margaret Readerville already, uh, Johnny Cash ring a fire, it's

(41:37):
it's it's an easy song to sing. And then I guess, I guess
in theory that is a little bitof a slower song. But but but
people love that song. People getinto that song and uh again in the
right moment, ring a fire isa good and it Burns Burns Burns,
Caroline, Yeah, Burns Burns Burns, Sweet Caroline. I mean you talk
about getting one for the crowd.Everybody's along swaying back and forth the year,

(42:01):
belting it out. Uh, youknow, it's you can't go wrong
with that. Uh, friends inlow places Garth Brooks another one that everybody
knows and everybody, you know, when they've had a couple of drinks,
uh, wants to sing along. You get the crowd going on there,
you just hold the mic out.You know they're doing all the work.
It's it's just stuff. And finally, if you want to do a duet,

(42:23):
my go to duet is Summer Nightsfrom Greece. John Travolta, Olivia
Newton. John. It's epic.Done that one a couple of times.
Is this what you and Christa doon your days off? No? See,
no, it's funny because Christa wouldnever get up there and do that.
So I done. Oh you know, random folks, Uh, you

(42:46):
know the last time I did itwas a few years ago. Actually on
the Phillies um fancation. During thesummer we went to uh you know,
or during the winter, we wentwith a bunch of fans to um Cancoon
and so one of the one ofthe fans that that was on the trip,
she and I got up there anddid uh did the duet and UH

(43:08):
brought the house that you know,So where'd you get? Did you get
a pacha Willie's? Is that whereyou did? Did the karaoke? The
hotel? It was, it wasan event for it. So there's like
a hundred, you know, fansthat come on the trip and a couple
of our players and some of thebroadcasters and it's you know, it's this
and they have a night. Theyhad a night, a karaoke night.
So some of our players got upand sang and it was it was a

(43:30):
fun night. So so that's whatwe did. M I like that.
It sounds like a lot of funto me. We've got nine entries,
We've got the Humpty Dance, uhbig Yellow Taxi. Living on a prayer,
I have no idea living on aprayer. Living on a prayer.
Don't stop believing a good one, just just a jigglo, sound like that

(43:57):
sound of sound of silence, andthen I stand there and not sing Piano
Man, Redneck Woman, and onefrom your list, Sweet Caroline. Oh
well, we know the rules. If it's all my list, I gotta
vote for that one. Um there, there's a couple of good ones,
a couple of good ones on air, and uh, but I'll go.

(44:20):
I'll go Sweet Caroline because it's it'sall my list and it's a good one.
I'm seeing this guy in less thantwo weeks for the second time.
I'm seeing Billy Joel at the link. Uh, so I gotta go Piano
Man, which means John Jansen, you are the tiebreaker, Piano Man or
Sweet Caroline, Johnny, Sweet Caroline, Sweet Caroline. All right, congratulations,

(44:43):
go ahead. Yeah. I wasgonna say Billy Joel's my all time
favorite, yeah, and and PianoMan's greatest songs ever written. So I
would have been fine with either oneof those. But all right, Sweet
Carolin. Uh, Sam will sendme Okay, Maureen McConnell, she is
a new winner. Marie McConnell.Congratulations, Sam, your information and then
I'll get you over the tickets.Sam also chimed in for her forgot about

(45:05):
Dre the real Slim Shady and orthe real Sam Shady as she put in
here and regulate. I would loveto see her sing any of those three
songs be classic stuff. But congratulationsMarine for the tickets. I'll get them
over to you later on today,Murph, let's get to our picks for
this Sunday's Action. You went tooand one, only missing out on your

(45:30):
underdog twins last week, so you'restarting to starting to climb out of the
hole. Here. You had elevenand seven with fourteen points on the season.
I went two and one again lastweek. Also last week alongside of
you, another two point week forme as well, with missing on my
underdog Dodgers as we went head tohead between the Dodgers and the Rays,
which was a man with a shootouteleven to ten was the final on that.

(45:52):
We should have probably took the overon that one. But I sit,
yes, I'm now sitting at thirteenand five with seven seam points on
the season. Give me your firstpick for today's action. I'm right behind
you. I'm feeling pretty good, all right. First pick today, it's
a lock. It's an absolute lock. I got the Phillies. There was
no doubt in my There's almost neverI almost never pick our our squad,

(46:16):
but I love them today. Whatwhat, dude, I could tell you,
we could go back through the tape. There's no doubt you're always gonna
pick. You picked the Phillies onmore than one occasion. Oh no,
I haven't picked them once this year. At one time I think you did.
You you predicted Nolan in Cincinnati hewas gonna have a he might have

(46:38):
no hit stuff that day. Youtook him that day, I did,
all right? Well that I look, I love it. There are just
one sixty. I think they wintoday's game. Um, I don't think
there's there's any question they're gonna winthis afternoon. I mean I'm saying that,
not as I really believe that injust in terms of baseball. So
um, thinking the Phillies as myfavorite minus one sixty, you're a man.

(47:00):
Now I can root them, yeah, exactly. And you're doing this
because you don't want me to rootagainst you. I don't want to root
against the Phillies, so I actuallyhave to root for you to get a
PILLI nothing to do it. Thisis this is a cut to cut the
audio here is I never played thePhillies, all right. My favorite this
week is the Twins minus one fiftyfive at home versus Cleveland. Joe Ryan

(47:22):
is seven and two or the twopoint seven seven era. They've taken two
out of three so far in thisseries. They're gonna do what the Phillies
is gonna do last week in Atlanta. They're gonna take three or four against
Cleveland, and they're gonna do ittoday against Tristan McKenzie. Give me your
second one, all right, secondone. I'm sticking with the Philton.
I'm kidding him. My underdog todayit's Colorado and Kansas City. Not not

(47:46):
the best game on the slate, but I'm going that way. Colorado is
plus one twenty in this game. They're looking for a sweep, and I
guess that's why, you know, maybe the odds makers are thinking, all
right, you know, Kansas Citiesis gonna take the final game here home.
I don't think so. You know, I think Colorado's is a little
bit better team, and I thinkthey end up sweeping the Kansas City at

(48:07):
home. So I'm taking Colorado's myunderred door. Okay, my underdog this
week is I'm going for a sweepin Queens. I'm taking the Blue Jays
plus one twenty to sweep the Mets. Uh, they've won three in a
row. Make today four. Giveme your over under all, right,
over under. I'm in that game, the Blue Jays and the Mets.
Um, I don't know who's gonnawin that game. I'm hoping you're right

(48:30):
it'll be the Blue Jays. Butthe overrunder is eight and a half.
And uh, it's Sena and Couciepitching today. They've gone under in their
first two games of the series, both both times. I think they go
over today. I think they're Ithink the Bats exploded today Sunday afternoon,
and I'm gonna take the over eightand a half in this one. See
when I didn't want to mention thestarting pitcher's name for for the Blue Jays,

(48:52):
guy, I just didn't know howthat was going to come out,
So I left that one well enoughalone. I didn't announce the starting pitching
matchups. I'm gonna go from myover under. I'm gonna go over ten
and Brewers Reds in Cincinnati. BenLively is pitching for the Reds three and
two of the one point nine nineer a Adrian Houser is a pretty decent
starter. I mean he's won andwon this season four point zero seven?

(49:14):
Why is this? Why is thisline so high? It's just you know,
we talked about this last week likethings talk to you like, am
I that person with a line forme? I think it's gonna be runs
a plenty today in Cincinnati because theball jumps out of that ballpark. Can
you believe it? The thousands ofwater six to five? And the wild

(49:51):
phase rb I head, can youbelieve it? Can you believe it?
Two things we found interesting from thispast week in Major League Baseball, Murph,
give me your first one, allright. I don't like this one,
but it is kind of interesting.Ronald k Junior of the Atlanta Braves.
Each of his last ten home runshave gone more than four hundred and

(50:15):
twenty feet. Wow, that's themost executive four twenty plus homers in the
stat Cast era ever. That's yes, since twenty fifteen, the Statcasts era.
So but you think about that,I mean ten straight home runs where
four twenty that's poke. I mean, he's crushing him when he hits him.
So I'm sticking with the Braves heretoo, And it's another one I
don't like to announce. This oneis courtesy at Kevin mccalpin on Twitter.

(50:39):
Spencer Strider punched out Nick Cassiano's forhis one hundred strikeout of the season.
He has reached one hundred k's injust sixty one innings, becoming the fastest
player to reach the century mark andstrikeout since eighteen ninety three. Jacob Degram
had the record with one hundred andsixty one and two thirds inning pitched in
twenty twenty one. Yeah, it'sa good one. Kevin mccapman, by

(51:01):
the way, a buddy of mine, Philadelphia native working down there for the
Atlanta Braves, So good for him. All right. Finally, we remember
the Phillies getting swept out of thefirst series of the season by the Texas
Rangers, and we're like, what'sgoing on? You know, Rangers teams
pretty drd good. How about this? They've continued to be the hottest offense

(51:22):
in Major League Baseball. They've scoredten plus runs in a game for the
fifteenth time this year. No otherteam has more than eight, and they
have fifteen ten plus games to builtten plus runs games, so that team
can hit and they can pitch alittle bit too. Pretty good team.
Yeah that Bruce Boach. He's prettygood as a manager, right, I
mean that was a Yeah, thatwas a pretty good decision that he made

(51:44):
and they made too. I'm gonnago with Greg Harvey here on Twitter.
He is at between the numbs pitchersin Major League Baseball history to be undefeated
minimum one win with a sub twoarray and zero home runs allowed through their
first eleven starts of a season. This this version is Sonny Gray with the
Minnesota Twins. This year's version twentytwenty three and nineteen nineteen Eddie Shakati.

(52:08):
Only two to ever do that too. Two. It's impressive, absolutely,
Murphy. Let's look at the weekahead here. We got today's rubber match
against the Washington Nationals and the threeMonday through Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers.
We're off on Thursday and then wehad the Dodgers and the programming note,
we're back down and expining to livenext Sunday. So make sure you guys

(52:30):
stop over and say, hello,Murph, we need a big week out
of our fightings here. Yeah, you really do? You know, now's
the time and I think we've saidthis already before, but but you're you
know, you started the show bytalking about it's not early anymore, and
you're right, it's not. Itis time. It is time for this
team to start winning five out ofseven, you know, seven out of

(52:52):
ten. That's that's how they're goingto you know, it's not gonna happen
overnight. They don't have to wintwelve in a row, but they have
to win in two or three more. They have to be over five hundred
two or three games every ten gameskind of thing. You know, win
seven out of ten, six outof ten, seven out of ten.
You know, maybe you jump upand win eight out of ten in a

(53:14):
particular stretch. If they do that, not only will they be in the
next near the end of the season, they'll have a chance of the division
still, they'll certainly be in thewildcard next That's what they need to do,
and it needs to start now.I agree with you absolutely. All
right. I'd like to thank superSam Brady for setting up stream Yard and
running that for us today and forgettingme Marines email addressed so fast. Thank

(53:36):
you very much for that. ForJohn Jansen on the board and Greg Murphy
in our nation's capital in Washington,d C. I am Chris Sack of

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
