(01:11):
from Lone Depot Park as we setyou up for Phillies Marlins this afternoon.
Murph, how are we doing thismorning? We're doing great. Got a
chance to win a series down herein Miami. Hopefully the Phils can get
that done behind Aaronola today and headoff to the All Star Break with all
those good feels in tow you know, obviously it's been a great run over

(01:33):
the last couple of weeks from thePhils. It'd be great to finish strong
here in Miami before the break.Yeah, I know last week on the
show, last week we talked aboutwhat we wanted out of this road trip.
And I know the Phillies slipped uplast Sunday they lost two out of
three at home against the Washington Nationals. But where this team has come on
the road over the last month, especially you know, breaking team history or

(01:56):
you know almost breaking team history, tiring team history with a thirteen game winning
streak. Man, we wanted tocome into this. I think we both
agreed four and two out of thistrip if you could get you know,
I think you said one of two. If you get one to two in
Tampa, then you get two orthree in Miami, you consider that a
win. But hey, they're staringdown to barrel of the gun here this
morning to where they have an opportunitythis afternoon to finish this road trip five

(02:20):
and one, one game away fromwinning fifty games in the first half of
the season for the first time.I think this is twenty eleven pretty special
stuff this Phillies team has been doingover the last month, month and a
half riding into this All Star break, especially when you look at what the
schedule like looks like coming out ofthe All Star Break. Yeah, I
think that's a good point, andI'm sure we're going to talk about that.

(02:40):
But yeah, and you know, when we talked about this road trip
last weekend, we I think weboth agreed, and for obvious reasons,
more important to be successful here inMiami. The team you're chasing in the
National League gist, So getting thatsecond win in this series, winning this
series today certainly is very important,But it's gonna be hard to argue with

(03:01):
even if they were to drop today'sgame. A four and two road trip
to finish the first half of theseason certainly is solid. But you know,
let's be greedy, right Why whynot go out and get that fifth
win, finishing five and one,you know, pick up another game on
the team that's directly ahead of you, both in the Nationally East and then
in the Wildcard standings as well.So you know, it's a big game,

(03:23):
and you have Aaronola out there goingfor the Phillies today coming off one
of his best starts, is nothis best start of the season, so
you know, and they've got apretty tough customer on their side as well.
It's gonna be a great pitching matchupthis Marlin's team. I mean,
they are a good young team. They certainly find ways to win each and
every night. So gonna be agood game today, hopefully, hopefully it

(03:46):
ends up in the Phillies favorite.Like you're right that Marlin scene. They're
young, and they're scrappy. Theyhad good starting pitching, and they added
in key veterans, guys that werein the World Series last year. I
mean, you know our old friendJean Sigura, Julie Gurriel over their first
base. They have some professionals inthat lineup. Or hey, Hilaire,
I mean he was a World SeriesMVP two years ago. That team is

(04:06):
on the rise. And you knowthey have a great farm system too.
I mean those farms, those farmsystems in Florida seem to tend to flourish.
I mean with the youth that theyhad, they're gonna look to add
some pieces here coming up in acouple of weeks of the trade deadline.
That's a very good team in Miami, and hopefully the Phillies can handle their
business and get their record against theMarlins back to five hundred season because remember

(04:28):
the Marlins on two and one,it says in Bank Park against the Phillies,
what about a month ago. Sogetting it back to five hundred and
putting yourself a game and a halfbehind them heading into the stretch, I
think we're back in Miami at thebeginning of August two. But those head
to heads that was huge for thePhillies last year in the wild card race,
and it's gonna be big for themagain this year. Yeah. You
know, obviously you want to haveconfidence when you come into a ballpark and

(04:51):
you've played a team well all seasonkind of thing. As for the more
games that they can you know, notch on their belt against the teams from
the National League better. I mean, the Phills still have a losing record
against the National League East this year, so they need to improve on that.
But you know, it all startstoday. This Marlins team, you
know, historically has been tough forthe phillies, but over the last year

(05:12):
or so they've handled them pretty good, so hopefully they can do that again.

(06:00):
All right, Murf, Before weget into this phillies in the week
that was and what we're looking aswe head into the All Star break here,
and we do have some breaking newsthat has come across the wire,
you know, not really any goodnews coming for the Phillies as we head
into this last game before the AllStar break. The good thing is we
have four days off when we cansee where we're at and where the chips
fall. More, we'll see wherethe chips fall where they may at that
point in time. But we dohave a couple tickets that we want to

(06:23):
give away to you guys for PhilliesBrewers on Wednesday, July nineteenth at six
forty pm at ciss Bank Park andlet to the Phillies go into London next
season to play the Mets. I'mfinishing up a ten day orprieve from work
while Murf has enjoyed and all expensemostly all expense paid vacation in Florida over
the last week on the Phillies. It feels that way to some degree.

(06:45):
I'm sure more so when you weredoing just pre impost and Tampa as compared
to now doing play by play duties. You know, this weekend with Scott
Fransky taken off, but I figuredlet's have a little bit of fun here
let's talk about best vacation movie, and Murph, I'm sure you're you agree,
just like I do. Eliminate rightfrom the panel, right from the
Jump Street, right now, NationalZooms, Lampoon's Vacation off the board.

(07:09):
Yeah, totally. I couldn't agreewith you more. I was like,
well, this is one obvious answer. No, it's the Harry and Whitey
answer to this question. We're gonnahave to eliminate that off the table.
So yeah, vacation off the table. For sure. I agree with you
absolutely, So why don't you giveme your one of your top five?
All right? So after that itbecomes a little bit more of a difficult

(07:30):
question. You know, I hadn'treally kind of go back in the recesses
of my mind and try to remembersome of them. And you know,
there are a couple that I wouldI would say they're all vacation movies,
but you might argue with one ofthem when it's all settened up. But
I'll give you, uh, I'llgive you one early on. This is
a pretty good one, I think, and that's Weekend at Bernie's. Um,

(07:51):
you know, terrific. When thatcame out, it was kind of
I don't want to say groundbreaking, but it was. It was such a
funny premise and an interesting premise thatwe really hadn't seen before. And uh,
you know, the way they pulledthat off, and and the way
the the actors pulled off the uhyou know, the dead Bernie and the

(08:11):
rest of it was was just areally funny movie. So they're on vacation
down that the beach and uh andget that the Big Beach House. So
weekend at Bernie's on my list.Yeah, there was a couple that I
that I really enjoyed that I wasgoing to bring up, but people have
already taken them, so I'm gonnajust go with, you know, the
one that I enjoyed, and it'smore of a summer vacation type movie.

(08:31):
And that's American Pie too. Uh. You just you just have some great
ones right off, you know, with the lake House and some some you
know, unbelievably funny moments with likethe superglue and Jim uh you know,
hey, Jim, wyn't you putyour shirt on? You're scaring the girls
away and uh, you know,it's just there's so many great moments of
that movie. And you know,me and you tend to agree with the

(08:54):
American Pie series. And you know, I feel like the last couple movies
really haven't been as good, youknow, American Wedding and American Reunion.
They've been okay, you know,it's still still funny, still immature humor,
and they're coming out with another one. I'd like to see what they're
gonna have with that. But youknow, the first two American Pies are
hard to beat. An American Pietwo with the Summer Vacations Classic. Yeah,

(09:15):
yeah, number one is heads andtails of both the rest, Yes,
but okay, I'll give you numbertwo on that as well. So
there you have it. So we'llsee what we'll see what the folks happen.
Yeah, no doubt about it.So go to the board. You
can do that. You can getinvolved by going to our Green Legion Radio
YouTube channel, the green Legion Facebookpage, or our Twitter handle at green

(09:35):
Legion. Our collective favorite answer willwin. At the beginning of our final
segment, MERV let's get out ofthe box. Now, let's talk some
Phillies first of all, and Iwant to get away from the run sheet
here because we do have some breakingnews that has come out courtesy of the
Phillies. And are you doing tosit down with Topper this morning? I
know that's normally Scott Fransky duty. No, No, we don't. We
don't do the coaches show on Sundays. Okay, so we But but Rob,

(10:00):
we'll speak to the media. That'sgoing to happen in around eleven forty
here at Marlins Park, so we'llhave some folks obviously down there and listening
to what he has to say.But yeah, obviously the big news that
came out in this morning is thatJose Alvarado has headed to the injured list
again. Um, and Andrew Blodihas been called up from the Lehigh Valley.
So not good news, and Idon't have a whole lot of information

(10:22):
about it. It kind of cameout of out of the blue. Didn't
see it coming. So we'll findout a little bit more from Rob coming
up within the next hour. Butuh, you know, it's it's never
good news. Well one if yourbest players has headed to the injured list.
It's something that that he's been dealingwith, uh, you know,
pretty much for half the season. Now here's the good news. Andrew Blodi

(10:43):
has been pitching lights out down atthe Lehigh Valley. Yeah, it's all
down there. Yeah yeah, Sohopefully he can come up to here,
to the big leagues. I mean, he's no stranger to this clubhouse,
is a stranger to the to thebigs and uh and continue to perform and
hopefully the Phillies won't miss a beat. Now, is this the same injury
for him, because I believe itwas a fore arm injury the last time

(11:03):
he went on the I L They'rethey're staying it's it's left elbow elbow inflammation
that he's experiencing. Now, I'msure, like you know, like you
said, you're gonna have people downthere. They're gonna be getting this information.
I'm sure on Philly's Twitter, um, you know, and Todd's the
Lecky's of the world, Matt Gilbsof the world, they're gonna be putting
out there what Topper is gonna besaying. So hopefully we'll have another update
for you guys by the end ofthe show and we'll be able to,

(11:24):
you know, pour some more lighton this. But it will put him
out for at least the first twoseries of the second half. Hopefully that's
the case, you know, Hopefullyit's just the you know, a couple
of weeks and we're just missing fora couple of series here. But you
know, if we get any moreinformation, we'll make sure we bring that
to light to you guys, hopefullyby the end of the show. Um.
Also another thing for today, anothernegative, but you know X rays

(11:48):
were we're negative yesterday for Bryce Harper. He took a he took a pitch.
He got hit by a pitch rateon his circle repaired elbow. Uh,
can't can't be any worse than gettinghit there. But um, you
know, it's not like it's gonnatear the ligament again in his elbow.
Um, they pulled him for procraordinaryreasons yesterday. Um. If you've seen
Bryce yet this morning after the gameyesterday in the clubhouse, UM, I

(12:13):
know he was saying that he's he'sfine, he's okay. Um, But
any any more news that you canput out there for us as far as
what we can look forward to maybegetting him back in the lineup next Friday.
Yeah, No, I think Bryce'sis gonna be fine. You know,
I think it's more. You know, he came out right after the
game yesterday and said, you know, once they had gotten the imaging done
and realized there was nothing to beoverly concerned with, and it just becomes

(12:35):
an inflammation and pain issue. Um, you know, you get hit on
the elbow. Anybody gets hit onthe elbow with a with a pitched baseball,
it's gonna hurt. Yeah. Ithink John Kruck described the pain as
taking a ball peen hammer and havingsomeone just drill you on the elbow,
and he said, you know, that's kind of how it feels. So
it's not surprising, you know,a left hander on the mound today in

(12:56):
Lazardo that they've said, you knowwhat, let's give Bryce the day off.
He's gonna have the rest of theAll Star break to also kind of
recuperate, and hopefully, you know, he hits the ground running on Friday.
I can't imagine he wouldn't be readyto go next Friday when the Fils
get back into action. We don'tknow that for sure. We'll just have
to wait and see. But Idon't think it's something to be overly concerned

(13:18):
about him. That is certainly goodnews, right. I like the fact
too. Listen, you know, you want to win this series down there
in Miami. You want to taketwo or three. You want to be
a game and a half behind himas we go into the break. I
think these next five days are hugefor Bryce as far as maybe not so
much physical, you know, withgetting hit in the elbow. And I'm
not the one that took a fastballto my elbow, so I can't speak

(13:39):
on that behalf. I think thisis more of a mental break for Bryce
as we head into the All Starbreak, and you know, give him,
give him peace of mind as hegoes in here, because you could
tell, and we've talked about thisthe last couple of weeks, Bryce is
pressing, um, you know, and it's it's not really affecting like his
overall game, but it is affectingwhat he's doing and was he's searching for
going up there to the plate.I look at it from this context that

(14:03):
I think that this is better forhim more on the mental side than it
is on the physical. Yeah,I would agree with that. And I
think Bryce spoke to a couple ofthe reporters a couple of days ago and
talked about that very thing and sayingthat you know, I'm getting my hits,
I'm able to contribute a little bitbut I'm not the player that I
know I am most of the time, and I need to get back to

(14:24):
being that player. And you're right, it's hard because you know, he
understands that he's not Bryce Harper atthe moment, and so what do you
do. You try harder, right, which is exactly what you don't want
to do when you're playing the gameof baseball. And that's where that,
you know, the pressing side ofthings comes in and you know, hey,
am I trying to do too much? And it's you know, for

(14:46):
Bryce who the game, I don'twant to say it comes easy, but
certainly that at the level that heplays the game, his struggles are not
the same as other people's struggles, right. You know, he's a guy
that has experienced success virtually every timeyou know, he steps on the field,
you know, year in and yearout, and so you know,

(15:09):
it's it's been a power drop forhim. I think that's weighing on him
a little bit. But I thinkit's important. Yeah, get away from
the game for a couple of daysand you know, just to think about
anything other than baseball for a littlebit. And then when you get back
to Philadelphia on Friday, that youstart to refocus in and who knows.
I mean, would anybody be surprisedthat if Frice steps out on the field

(15:31):
on Friday and boom, you know, he just turns it on and has
a terrific second half of the season. I certainly wouldn't be surprised, and
I don't think most baseball fans wouldbe. I just find it funny that
people continue to sit here and lookat the fact that he's like he's not
hitting for power because you know, like the making excuses for his elbow,
and maybe maybe that is the case, but I mean, like they put

(15:52):
out there, I think it wasduring the course of the last homestand about
how he just went on a completeand absolute tear dramatic practice. I think
he hit like fifteen on runs. The power is there. He can he
can hit home runs. He's goingto hit home runs. It's just a
matter of time before it clicks uphere in his head and down here with
his hands in the bat, andnow he's just gonna go through motion with
his body. Bryce is at hisbest when he's hitting into the opposite field.

(16:15):
That that right there is his breadand butter. When he can put
it to the left field and hecan play. He could spray it everywhere
all over the field. That's whereBryce is at his best. And that's
what you can look forward to seeingwhen we get into the second half.
I just can't wait for him toput it together because when he when he
gets together, you know, becauseI think Tray Turner over the Pasial last
month. He's batting over three hundred. He's starting, he's starting to pick

(16:36):
up some steam. But once theyget that whole middle of that lineup together,
it's gonna be dangerous for sure. But what has been fun this week?
And you know, let's not justsit here and talk about the negative.
I mean, the Philly has beenfour and two since our last show
last Sunday. Um, you know, they tied a franchise record of thirteen
consecutive road road victories, and theydid the last two and dramatic fashion they
had, uh you know, theyhad the extra ending win on on Thursday

(17:00):
night down there in Tampa to sweepthe series against the American League best Tampa
Tampa Bay Rays. And then theyhad to come back win from down three
one on that on that pop uphome run by Christian Pasha. Uh,
you know, yeah, I know, Hey, I'm not gonna I'm not
gonna rip you at all, becausehey man, yeah, no doubt about

(17:22):
it, and it barely went over. So it's but you've taken any which
way that you can, and youknow, Kimber will come down and it
comes into the ninth inning and andhe hammers it down. But fantastic job
by this team to get themselves back. I mean, they were ten games
under five hundred heading into that thirteengame winning streak on the road, and
now they're they're two games over fivehundred after yesterday's lost. What a phenomenal

(17:44):
job this team has done to getthemselves right over over the course of the
last month and a half, sincebeing swept by the New York Mets and
then losing that first game to theWashington Series at the beginning of June.
Yeah, it's it's it does seemlike a little bit of a different team
at this point. You know, that's baseball. I mean, look,
we watched the Mets, you know, plummet out of contention over the last

(18:04):
four or five weeks. But nowthey've turned things around again and they're starting
to get hot. They are certainlynot out of the conversation when it comes
in the postseason. That's what youknow. As as broadcasters and as fans.
I think we always have to remindourselves that this is a long,
long process and so much can happen. We saw it last year. You

(18:27):
know what more proof do you needthat a team can turn things around and
uh and and you know be adifferent team in the second half. And
we're seeing it with the Phillies thisyear. You're seeing it across baseball because
it happens every year. You know, no team is going to be the
Rays right now, right They're they'restuffling. This was a team that was
baseball for almost the entire first halfof the season and the they have hit

(18:52):
a patch where they can't win ballgames. But they're gonna turn it around
because they're a good team. Andon the flip side, and I'm going
to throw this out into the atmospherebecause I want it to be true,
the Atlanta Braves are good to haveto pull off at some point, some
point you can play. They're playingright now is just absolutely amazing and they
have been just a force to bereckoned with. But I can't imagine that

(19:15):
they're going to be able to keepthat out for the rest of the season.
There will come a time when theBraves lose, you know, seven
of ten games or six of tengames. I believe that to be true.
And and when they do, theteams that are chasing them, including
the Phillies, need to be playingtheir best baseball. Now on the heels
of the Alvarado news and I knowon Andrew Bladi is back yesterday sor anything,

(19:37):
the main guys had a bullpen sessiondown there in Miami. How's he
looking, how's he feeling. What'sthe next step in his progression to returning
to the big league roster post AllStar Break? Yeah, it sounds like
he's still a little bit always Ithink he's feeling fine, but it's a
it's a matter of time. Atthis point, he's going to throw another
bullpen, I believe over the break. And then Rob talked to yesterday about

(20:00):
you know, obviously he's gonna needto face some live hitters and then he'll
probably go out on the rehab assignment. So, you know, I don't
think we're going to see Sir AnthonyDominguez right out of the shoot come the
second half of the season, butit won't be too too long as long
as he doesn't have any set batch. But you know, those oblique injuries
are just they're so difficult and there'syou just have to be so careful because

(20:21):
they're so easy to to reinjure, and that's exactly what they're trying to avoid.
So if you have to wait anextra week to ten days before he
comes back after the break, butthen you have him for the rest of
the season, that's that's what you'relooking for, because the worst case scenario
is he comes back and then ina week or two he's back on the
on the engine list. Now,I know I took a shot at you

(20:41):
with the you know, with thewith the popped up and you know,
the Christian Pasche home run, ButI would be remiss not to ask you
this question because you posted the highlightsof the game the other day, um
on your Instagram, and I andI listened to you know, Scott and
Stock and you know, they weretalking about, you know, how Stocker
was the first triple I think inTropicana field history and and all that good

(21:03):
stuff. But they did bring upthat Matt Gelb has a nickname for you.
I believe it's a bulk boy.Um, is did I hear that
right? Or is there is theresomething more to it? No? You
did not hear that right. No, the bulk boy has nothing to do
with me, nothing to do withyou, Okay, nou Matt Gelb kind

(21:25):
of uh has been trying to cointhat phrase. Um when they're any baseball
team uses an opener and then kindof announces who that that next person is
going to be. Um. Yeah, So I don't know where where you
connected that with me, but theywere, they were talked, they were

(21:45):
talking about you, and I'm sittingthere like, you know, because you've
always posted those like sixty second clips. You know, I've slimmed down a
lot. No, No, hey, you know I've slimmed down a little
bit too. But then again,I did come off vacation. I've been
trying to, you know, keepup with my workouts and my regiments and
all stuff. But yeah, Ihear you. I just didn't know if
there was something more to it.And and sometimes when when I hear things

(22:06):
on the radio, I'd like to, you know, kind of bring it
up on our show because you know, it humanizes you just a little bit
more, you know, like beingat Phillies Broadcasting at Phillies played by play
announcer that you you're so privy tobeing win Scott back, by the way,
how much longer are you going tobe on those duties? I believe
they'll be back for game two whenwe come out of the break, So

(22:26):
I'll do Friday night first game withthe Padres, and then Scott'll be back
after that. You sound great,by the way. I love hearing thank

You know, big news this weekin Major League Baseball, as you know,

(24:51):
fortunately for Major League Baseball and theAll Star Game being in Seattle this
year, Mike Trout underwent surgery onhis left hammy fracture. He did that
swing in the bat which was justcompletely strange and flukey as it was.
Timeline for his return is four toeight weeks from that surgery. Um,
you know, it's unfortunate for theAngels, who were playing good baseball up

(25:14):
until that point. They're four gamesback of the wild card in the American
League and now fourth place and sevengames back in the American League West.
They were making up some ground beforeTrouss injury. Uh you know, now
they're they're they're under five hundred, forty five and forty six. So Murph,
my question to you, should theAngels start fielding phone calls for showhy
Otani. Well, I mean,I wouldn't ignore the phone calls if they're

(25:37):
coming in, right, you gotto listen to what people have to say.
But they won't trade shot that itwon't happen. Um, I would
be shocked if that happened. Andand there isn't enough. There isn't enough
that you can give the Angels thatwould ever make that deal good for the
Angels. And at least that's mybeliefs. I mean, short of giving

(26:03):
them you know, four MVPs orsomething along those lines, which no team
has. So I don't think there'sany chance that Shoheo Tani gets traded.
Now, does he leave in freeagency at some point? Probably? Yes,
Yeah, I think so. Butyou know, the general manager,
the owner of the Angels, they'renot going to be the ones that want

(26:27):
to be the ones that traded ShowehioTani perhaps the greatest player of his generation.
So you know, i'd be I'dbe really really surprised at that happens.
Now, if you're the Angels andyou're falling out of the race,
okay, and you have the beliefthat you're going to be the one.
You're gonna be the team that's goingto make the best offer in the off

(26:48):
season for Shoheio Tani to you know, give you his services for the next
eleven to twelve years, and youknow you have the bank roll to do
it and to make it happen. Why let him wallow away on your roster
when you can surround him with fouror five six pieces potentially moving forward.
Let him go someplace else for twomonths, you know, maybe three if

(27:10):
he gets into October for the firsttime his career, I know it's a
chance because you're going to train himto a team that's a gonna have every
bit the choice and the matter tomake it happen financially to where they're gonna
want to keep him there. Andif he goes there and he enjoys his
time there, he might not wantto go back to the Angels and play
there. But you gotta take achance at some point along the line to

(27:32):
where you know you've been to theplayoffs one time in Mike Trout's career over
the last twelve years, having twoof the best baseball players in Major League
Baseball has not worked from the standpointof making things happen in you know,
as far as having postseason appearances, let alone success. I mean, you
gotta take a shot. If somethingcomes along and they knock your socks off.

(27:52):
I know you don't want to takethe chance, but for the love
of God, you gotta at leastlisten to it. For a franchise standpoint,
to make something happen. Yeah,I mean I think they listen.
I don't think there's any chance thatthe Angels are going to have the best
offer for Shoheo Tommy going forward.Well, I shouldn't say that. I
mean, maybe there's a chance, but I'd be surprised if the Angels think

(28:15):
that they're the leaders in the clubhouseto resign Shohotani. I think there's a
couple of teams out there that arejust going to Dodgers blow them out of
the water, Dodgers MAT's Yeah,Yeah, I think there's a couple of
teams, and so you know,at the end of the day, you
know, perhaps that is the routethey should take, you know, get
something for him before he walks. But I just have a hard time believing

(28:40):
that they're going to they're gonna dothat. I just think that the backlash
will be so tremendous. And youknow, no matter who you get back,
no matter who you get back, you know, and they may not
be anything. It could be acomplete bust. I mean, we've seen

(29:00):
plenty of number one overall picks nevermake it to the big league, So
you know, there's no guarantee thatanything you get back is going to help
your club going forward. And it'sjust such a huge risk for them at
this point, and we've seen it. I mean, look at the deals
that the fillers are making for years. I mean you can ask your colleague
rubenamar Junior about the guys that hetraded away. What did they become?

(29:22):
You know, I mean like reallyoutside of Carlos Carrasco and Travis Darnel,
I mean you can you can anyof those guys that they gave up.
Everybody want to keep Kyle dreyback,Michael Taylor, you know, like these
guys you wanted to keep them ULou Marson, right, I mean,
like these guys were supposed to begreat players, Jonathan Singleton, and they
didn't. They didn't pan out whereverthey went. Now, if they stayed

(29:45):
in Philadelphia, they stayed in ourfarm system, and they stayed in our
development system, maybe they would havepanned out. They maybe became decent major
league players, but they're not goingto become superstar level players that you would
see with a Shoeotani for sure.Yeah, and that's kind of how I
see it. And again, justthe backlash towards the Angels organization if they

(30:06):
were to trade him, I thinkwould be huge. And you know,
I'm sure Mike Trout doesn't want tosee shoot go. It's one thing.
If Otani makes the decision to leave, there's not a whole lot the organization
can do about that, you know, short of being completely financially irresponsible if
they can't match a deal. Soit's hard to argue at that point you

(30:29):
know that the Angels did anything wrong. It's a whole other thing if you
trade him away and never give yourselfa chance to keep him in Los Angeles.
So yeah, I don't think it'sgonna happen, but but it'll be
an intriguing story moving forward. Giveme your biggest surprise of the season so
far, A good surprise, Ateam that's come out of nowhere, out
of the woodworks that you weren't expectingto be there. Maybe you did have

(30:52):
a little bit of an inkling, but coming in, you know, the
national pundits weren't weren't speaking then, you know, and at a high level
that somebody that has surprised you sofar. All right, So you know,
I would say two teams honestly inthe National League sconcentrat on the nationally.
But the Arizona Diamondbacks are a teamthat I think has really kind of

(31:14):
come together very quickly. They havea lot of talent on that team.
They certainly have good pitching. Soit's not surprising now when you look at
what they're doing and you look attheir roster and you and you think about
all the pieces. But I dothink six months ago it would have been
if you had said that Arizona wasgoing to play as well as they have
in the first half, I thinkpeople would have been surprised by that.

(31:36):
And then the other team is righthere, right, I mean, I
don't Again, it's a team thathas a lot of talent. You know,
you look at this Marlon's lineup atleast certainly top heavy talent in this
lineup, and they always have goodpitching and they certainly have shown that.
So but again, it's a teamthat all of a sudden has kind of

(31:56):
come together and played very well, played a little bit higher than expectations.
And I don't necessarily think they're goingto slow down anytime soon. I think
they're built for the season. Ithink they're built for one sixty two.
So it's going to be h It'sgonna be tough. You know, the
Phillies are gonna have to play reallygood baseball to catch these guys, you
know, and I would be Ihave to take out of John Jansen line

(32:19):
here. I'm an idiot. Um, you know, I'm talking about earlier
when they're talking about you know,we were saying Jean Sigura and Julie Guriel.
They're adding posted the experience. They'realso adding probably you have a top
five MVP candidate, a guy that'sbatting close to four hundred and the line
up in the Luisa Rise, Uhyou know, yeah, pretty good,
Yeah, he is pretty good.I'm gonna I'm gonna go to the American
League side. I'm gonna stick upin the Northeast. The team like the

(32:40):
Baltimore Orioles who continue to just bringup prospect after prospect after prospect, and
they are just slugging the crap outof the ball right now. If they
make a move at the trade deadlineto get some starting pitching in there,
look out that team. There aretwo games behind the Tampa Rays right now
for first place in the American League. In the American League, and that's

(33:00):
a tough division. All five teamsare over five hundred. All five teams.
If you take any of those teamsyou putting me in American League Central,
they're in first place. So it'sunfortunate, you know, for a
couple teams are probably gonna miss theplayoffs and have a better record than the
American League Central team that gets inbiggest disappointment for you so far, you
know, into early going here ateam that you expect had high expectations for

(33:21):
but has completely underwhelmed. Well,I certainly can't attach the word disappointment to
this because I'm thrilled by it.But but yeah, the New York Mets,
I mean, you know, andagain and I said earlier in the
show, I'm not ready to countfor the New York Mets. Out I'm
just not They're too talented. They'vegot they've got a lot going for them.
But as we talked about last weekon the show, that pitching staff,

(33:45):
it got it got old very quickly. And and look, those two
at the top of that rotation aretwo of the all time grades. And
I'm taking nothing away from either oneof them. I have nothing but respect
for those guys. But you know, other time catches up with everyone,
and it was going to happen eventually. I didn't think it would happen as
quickly as it did. Now theyhave started to write the ship a little

(34:07):
bit. They're playing a much betterbaseball. So we'll see what the Mets
are able to do. But Ithink you have to label them a disappointment
early in this season. I'm gonnago with the Saint Louis Cardinals. I
mean, couldn't get any worse forany other team. I'm surprised that Marmel
is still the manager at this pointin the season. That division has been
there for the taking pretty much thewhole year. I know the Reds have

(34:28):
been hot and the Brewers have beenconsistent, but you know, the Pirates
started out hot at the beginning ofthe year and they've fallen back to the
pack. But the fact that theCardinals have not been able to get anything
together to make a run division,to make a run at that division again,
is beyond you know, comprehension.I mean, it's the same Louis
Cardinals. They are, you know, the epitome of success in Major League

(34:52):
Baseball, and you know in thetwo thousands, especially, to see what
they're doing in the Anal Central isa complete and absolute It's not a disappointment
for me, like it's not disappointmentfor you with the Mets. Uh,
you know, because I can't standthe Cardinals and I'm actually glad to see
them in the seller for once, you know, in the course of my
life. But let's go on.Now, let's talk about the team that

(35:13):
you were looking at that had adown first half, but you're looking at
them to make a run here inthe second half. Yeah, you know,
I think the top of that listwould probably be the Mets. I
I and I you know me,I hate to say that, but I
just don't think the Mets are asbad as we've seen over the last five

(35:36):
weeks or so. Now. I'mnot saying they can do enough to get
to the postseason. But they dohave a lot of time, you know,
there are still a lot of gamesto be played, and they have
an opportunity if they start to playthe way that most people thought they were
going to play from the beginning ofthe season to get back in it.
So I wouldn't you know, Iwouldn't take my eyes off of the New

(35:58):
York Mets at this point, anduh, trying to think of another another
team that, uh might you know, there's a team I just can't figure
out, and I don't know ifthese guys are gonna get the ract together
or not. But the Toronto BlueJays and another team that I just look
at that roster and I think thisis a really good team. They're terrific,
Yeah, and they have not beenable to, you know, really

(36:21):
kind of put any kind of sustainedsuccess together. Would it shocked me if
they do. No, it wouldn't. And they got a lot of time
left too. We all all theteams do, so, um, I
would I guess that's who? Iwould say the Mets and the and the
Blue Jays. Look out. Iwould say the Padres in the nastual League.
I mean, they're already kind oflike the Mets, they're kind of
getting themselves back up on the pedestal. There's way too much talent they're on
that roster, especially offensively. Ijust and they have a good manager.

(36:44):
I like you, Bob Melvin hasbeen successful every worry he's been. Um.
I is still to this day thankhim for not bringing in Josh hard
Fix, Pryce Harper and that atbat for bed them at the bank.
But you know, man, itjust somewhere along the line here they have
to get it together. I'm justhoping it's not next weekend and we take
three or four against the Padres whenwe come out of the gate. Um,
if you're looking at your predictions fromthe beginning of the season, okay,

(37:07):
any changes that you look at rightnow, if you could now listen,
I'm gonna hold you to them, just like you're gonna hold me to
them at the end of the season. Looking at your your preseason rankings and
your playoff predictions, is there anythingthat you would look to maybe change.
Well, I mean obviously the team'ssay, you know, I thought the
Mets were gonna be better. Ithink I had been winning the division.

(37:28):
If I'm not mistaken. But Idon't want to change that, you know,
No, keep it right there.I don't care if I look if
I look like a complete idiot. And then and the Mets don't make the
playoffs, cut that chance, cutthat yeah. Yeah, well, hey,
you know, it's something I dooften, so I'm fine with it.
But you know, I just thinkthat's the beauty of baseball. It's

(37:49):
the beaute of sports really across theboard. Yeah, it's you know,
we sit here and and you know, wax poetically about what we believe is
going to happen, and who's gonnaa good season, and who's that We
don't know anything, right, wedon't, and and it's it's just the
way it is. It's fun todo. It's an exercise that sports fans

(38:09):
have been doing for a long timeand we'll do for a long time.
But this idea that any of us, any of us have any kind of
real knowledge about what's going to happen, it is kind of ridiculous. And
I know that. And I don'tpretend that I know more than you know.
The fan that's sitting at home watchingthe game on their television each and

(38:30):
every night. I he'll pretend thatI know a whole lot less than you
know a lot of people that arein the game and have been in the
game for a long time. Soit's it's so hard to predict. And
that's what that's what makes it sofun. That's what it's all about.
I would say the Cardinals for me, yeah, And I mean it's the
same thing. Everybody else looks everybodyelse looks good. I'm looking at this

(38:52):
right now. I mean, youknow, the Mariners are still there in
their division race, and you know, my World Series pick was Mariners over
Dodgers. I mean, the otherthey they're both right there for sure.
But I'm looking pretty pretty good whenwe get to the end of the season.
It's it's sad right now that youknow, maybe my overall season picks
have looked great, but my picksfor the seat for you know, our

(39:13):
weekly picks. That damn half pointis saving me right now, as far
as that's conservative, it's not. It's not saving you well, it's not
saving at all. I'm just collectingall these half points and I'm gonna you
know, objects in the mirror arecloser than the appear kind of thing,
all right, You don't don't.Don't think for a second that I don't
have a strategy here. Yeah, you're probably getting it from the research department

(42:42):
around. All right, MURV,let's hear the rest of your top five
vacation movies and maybe we gotta wegotta pretty healthy list here today. All
right, good stuff, all right, So I Gave You, We Get
to Bernie's as one of the fiveon my list. Next up The Short
Thing. I don't know if youare familiar with that. It's it's an
older movie, probably in the eightiesJohn Cusack, when he was at the

(43:05):
height of his acting career, theyhad a movie called The Shift Thing where
he travels across the country from HarvardUniversity. He's headed out to California to
visit a buddy and it's hysterical. It's a movie that we used to watch
in college all the time, andI still to this day with my college
buddies. We quote that movie allthe time. So The Short Thing makes
my list. I'm not sure ifthis is a vacation movie or not,

(43:28):
and I should have gone with TheGreat Outdoors, which Kevin Stocker said.
But Coming to America was he onvacation over here or not? I mean
he was looking for love? Yeah, he was looking for love. He's
a tremendous movie. I think wecan all agree on that. So if
we count that in the category ofa vacation movie, I would put Coming
to America Arsenel Hall when he isthe woman in the club and he's like

(43:50):
He's like I'm gonna tear you apartand your friend too. It's such a
great scene. Yeah, okay. One of my all time favorite movies comedies
is uh, City Slickers. Yeahyeah, And you know, at Billy
Crystal at one point in the movielooks right into the camera and streams,
I'm on vacation, and I thinkit's what he's being dragged behind one of

(44:15):
the horses. So he just funnyline after funny line in City Slickers.
So I put City Slickers on mylist. And then finally, and I
think we probably have a lot ofpeople that maybe wait in on this one.
The Hangover, right, I meanthose guys going to Vegas for a
little bachelor party, um and uhand vaka and uh. That's a movie

(44:36):
was as good as it gets interms of county movie. So The Hangover
is on my lift as well. All right, so let's go down the
list. Here were the Millers CouplesCouples Retreat, which I was watching last
night. Yeah, uh, theHangover. What you just said, just
go with it. I love thatmovie so funny. Uh, planes,
trains and automobiles. You know,I thought about that, but they weren't

(44:58):
on vacations. It was a businesstra Yeah, business trip yep, Beverly
Hills, cop I guess also youcould say it's a business trip, but
he maybe he was on vacation, vacation friends, the Great Outdoors, blend
It Jaws, which that's not thevacation. I want to be on road
trip RV. Forgetting Sarah Marshall grownUps and Thelma and Louise. You know,

(45:23):
I thought of Felma movies too.Not sure if that was a vacation
either, but but fine, youknow, it's a good list, some
really good ones. For getting StarMarshall is a great movie. I almost
made my list as well. Butout of a list, I gotta go
with the one that's on my list, and that's gonna be The Hangover.
So all right, I I loveJust go with It. It's like me

(45:45):
and my wife, that's like guiltypledge of movie. We love watching that
together. Um so we need atiebreaker between the Hangover and Just Go with
It? Is Stock right there?Stock is right there, is right here.
But he already weighed in. Iknow, I think we gotta go
with John Jansen. Now so arewe? So? Are we going three?
And now he has to choose betweenthe three. Yeah, let's do
that, all right, guys. All right, so Jansen, you have

(46:07):
to choose between the Hangover, justgo with it and the Great Outdoors.
The hangovers more of like you needa mic buddy if you're gonna elaborate here,
the Great Outdoors, great great Outdoors. Okay, we're gonna go with
the Great Outdoors, all right,Kevin Stocker with another w on the show.
We're gonna have to get Stock onthe show. Stocks would love to

(46:29):
have Stock on the show because Iwould love to get some ninety three Phillies
stories out of him. Uh,the Great Outdoors is the winner. Congratulations,
Matt Kelly. I will forward youthe tickets over and get your email
address soon for the awesome stuff. All right, So murvh, let's look
at our picks. I'm still disappointed. I think I'm four four straight weeks.
Now I'm one and two, whichhas dropped me down to nineteen and

(46:51):
fourteen, which you know, that'sstill great, you know, it's a
it's a very good record. Um, but twenty four points is where I'm
at. You went one and twolast week as but you hit your underdog
selection of the Orioles. So that'sgonna put you at nineteen and fourteen with
twenty three and a half points. So MERV partner, give me your first
pick for today's action. All right, I'll give you my favorite first and

(47:15):
multiple Orioles at the Twins. Orwent Baltimore last week as my underdog.
They're the underdog again this week againstMinnesota. Minus one fifty five for Minnesota,
Kyle Gibson getting the ball for Baltimore, Joe Ryan for the Twins.
I'm taking the Twins. I thinkthe Twins win this game. I know
Baltimore has been playing really good baseball, but give me the Twins minus one

(47:37):
fifty five. They're my favorite. All right, Well, I'm gonna stick
in that game with my underdog I'vegot I've got the Orioles at plus one
twenty five to sweep the Twins ofMinnesota. You know, my biggest surprise
of the season. And you know, I'll tell you what. The Orioles
have won four in a row.You know now they've won three in a
row against the Twins because last weekthe Twins had them on the ropes to

(47:57):
sweep them in at Candy Yards andthey came back. Only won that game
last Sunday. So I'm gonna takethe Orioles a plus one twenty five.
Give me your underdog, Okay,my underdog. The Cincinnati Reds and the
Milwaukee Brewers, a divisional matchup happeningin Milwaukee. The Reds are a slight
underdog. They are plus one tenformer Phillip ben Lively on the hill,

(48:19):
Wave Miley on the other side. The series is split so far, one
game apiece. I like the Redsto beat Milwaukee today, and why not.
I mean, the playing since greatbaseball, and you know we saw
what Ellie Dave la Cruz did lastnight was just absolutely ridiculous. So yeah,
I'll take the Reds and Robot Cincinnati, all right. And here's my
favorite for today. I was lookingat the lines earlier on the Draft Kings

(48:43):
app and I'll tell you the Rayswere minus one twenty and no sooner than
I could turn my eyes and turnthem back, the Rays moved to minus
one thirty five. So in aspan of like three seconds, the line
jumped that much further. The Braveswent plus one hundred to plus one fifteen
as underdog. Wow, so youknow the rais of lost seven in a
row. I mean Bryce Etler ison the mount today against Zac Efflin.

(49:07):
I'm a great pitching matchup. AndI'll tell you what I don't understand how
the Braves can send two starting pitchersto the All Star Game and the one
that started on Saturday, Spencer Strider. They've they've dictated that neither of those
two are gonna pitch on Tuesday.I get the not pitching on Sunday.
You know, if you pitch onSunday, not pitching on Tuesday, that's
a bunch of crap. If SpencerStrider is there, he should be on

(49:30):
and he's on the roster, heshould be playing. He should be pitching
on Tuesday in the All Star Game. But you know, hey, they're
the Braves. Let him get awaywith whatever I want to get away with,
all right, So give me You'reover under for today their partner.
All right, Well, I'm stayingin that game Atlanta Tampa Bay and the
over unders eight and a half.And as I mentioned, it's a terrific
pitching matchup. And again, soI get to that point where I'm like,

(49:51):
well, they want you to takethe under, so maybe I should
take the over. But over thelast couple of weeks, I've been sticking
with my gut and taking what Ithink. So I'm gonna take the under
in that game with Fflyn and Elderon the mount under eight and a half
in Tampa Bay Alf you know, going when your gut the last couple of
weeks, you haven't hit the overunder though, Well yeah, but it's
so it's just I'm going with mygut. Okay, stop, you know

(50:15):
I'm a half a point behind you, all right, So we're under eight
and a half is what you're goingwith with brazen, right, Okay,
cool, I'm gonna go under eightand a half two, but I'm going
under eight and a half in RoyalsCleveland. They were on the under on
Friday night, they went way overyesterday and at ten to six w by
Cleveland. Shane Bieber's on the moundtoday and I still don't think that that

(50:35):
Cleveland defense is that great as faras like offensive productions concerned. They put
up ten runs last night. I'mnot expecting that, and back to back
games and then the Royal shouldn't scoreruns against Bieber. I'm gonna take the
under eight and a half in thatgame Royals Cleveland. Can you believe it?

(51:06):
Thousands of what a text to fiveand the whild face Arbi had.
Can you believe it? Can youbelieve it? Two things we found interesting
from this past week in Major Leaguebaseball. Murph, give me your first
one? All right? How aboutthis, uh Gunner Henderson, right?
You know, a good, goodyoung player special baseball. Yeah, he

(51:28):
really is. He became the firstplayer with four hits and two home runs,
not even just a game, butin the first four innings of a
game. Four hits and two homeruns in the first two innings of a
game. That's pretty impressive. MattCarpenter did it back on July twenty and
twenty eighteen. That was the lasttime it happened. Well, I know
Lindor had had another great h youknow I had gained this past week too.

(51:52):
What a home run, two triples, and two singles. Yeah not
bad, Yeah, performance by him, But that's not my Can you believe
it? Because we just spoke aboutEllie Dale Cruse. I took my oldest
son down to Washington, DC toyou know, to see the sights and
do the National Air and Space Museumon Monday, and I was saying,
I was like, ah, arethe Nationals home, so you know they're
playing the Reds and Ellie de laCruz he hit a single, He had

(52:13):
two strikeouts before we left the game. But at twenty one years old,
Ellie de la Cruz became the youngestplayer in the lightbel Eras since nineteen twenty
to steal three bases in an inning. And he made stealing home look pretty
damn easy. Yes, that kidis special, he's electric, he's exciting
a lot of fun. And here'shere's a fun fact too. I didn't
notice about the Nationals. The Nationalswere thirteen and thirty one at home.

(52:36):
They have they have an above fivehundred record on the road. Thirteen and
thirty one at home this season.Crazy? Yeah, how about that?
All right, I'll give you onemore SHOWEO, Tommy hard not to bring
him back into this segment. Eachand every month he was the American League
Player of the Month this past thispast month of June, and why well,
how about this? In the monthfifteen home runs, twenty nine RBIs

(52:59):
you got three ninety four He hada three point two six ERA and thirty
seven straightouns. I mean, comeon right now, is that is that
good? Yeah? I think it'spretty good. Yeah, I think so
too. You know, I findthis to be funny because, you know,
the Cubs have been long and torturedforever up until they won the World
Series back in twenty sixteen. Butfor the first time in Chicago Cubs franchise

(53:21):
history, they beat the Yankees atYankee stadiums threaded nothing on Friday. They
had been oh and eight in regularseason games and oh and four in the
World Series at Yankee Stadium all time. I know that's crazy, right,
I saw that. It's nuts.I actually had to read that like three
times to try to figure out whatthey were saying. It's crazy, all
right, Marv. So let's lookat the week ahead. Obviously, today's

(53:42):
rubber match, huge rubber match againstthe Miami Marlins down there in Miami,
and then we start a four daybreak for the home run Derby and they
All Star game, and then weman big time four game series u NLCS
rematch against the Padres on the beginningon Friday night with a schedule doubleheader on
Saturday, and then we'll be backdown and next Finity Live next Sunday.

(54:02):
As we are joined by the unhappyGilmore m as he's coming in. He'll
be live with us on their secondsegment down there, Expinity Live. Looking
forward to that, Murph, whatare you looking forward to this week?
You got some time off. Yeah, well you can continue to work on
that ten because you know it lookswonderful. I'm sure christ is very happy
about that. I don't think youbelieve me that this has nothing to do
with the sun, but sure I'lltake it. Yeah, looking like look

(54:27):
at my hand, does that giveyou a little indication? Yeah? You
just you just pulled a Ricky Bobbythere. I don't know, I don't
know what to do in my hands. Yeah, just put them up next
to my face. Hey, youknow what. The only thing that we
can really look at right now isuh, this afternoons game. Go out,
win this series, finish this roadtrip at five and one, go
into the All Star break feeling reallygood about this team and about where you

(54:51):
are, and and then you don'tworry and not think about baseball for the
next four days and then worried aboutthe padres when you get back on on
Friday. But That's what I'm hopingfor today, Hoping we see vintage Aaronola
this afternoon and He's able to shutdown this Marlon's lineup and the films can
take a victory. Sounds great. All right, partner, enjoy your time
off this week. Hopefully I'll seeyou down there at the ballpark. I'll

(55:12):
be at the game next Saturday night, a second game of the doubleheader,
so looking forward to that for Phillies. Played by play announcer Greg Murphy.
John Jansen on the board, andthank you to super Sam Brady for setting
us up on stream yard this morning. I'm Chris Sack of Green Legion Radio
and like at three, one pitchto Ryan Howard, we are out of
