Summer Sundays are meant for freshly cutgrass ballpark dogs and the best baseball talk
you can find. So kick backwith your bacon and eggs and pour yourself
a mimosa while Philly's announcer Greg Murphyand Green Legion Radio's Chris Sack break down
your fighting fills and take you aroundthe league. Right now on Baseball Brunch,
(00:29):
play Ball Eric Crystal Clear worldwide. We are broadcasting live from the iHeart
(00:59):
Radio Studios in bally Kimwood, whileMurph joins us from Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Partner, how are we doing thismorning hoping this offense can get back
on track a little bit has notbeen, has not been what we were
hoping arriving here in Cleveland the othernight. But you know what, salvage
a game today and and get backto the Philadelphia and try to get things
(01:22):
figured out. And you know, this offense all season long has been a
little bit of an enigma. Youknow, they've been good at times,
but certainly not as consistent as wewould have hoped coming into this season.
So I Rob Thompson said it yesterday. He said, look, you know
I could shuffle my lineup around itif I wanted to. But those five
guys, the top five guys inthe lineup, they got a hit.
(01:46):
And if the Phillies are gonna makethe postseason, and if the Phillies are
gonna make a run in the postseason, those five guys have to hit.
And we all know that. Theyknow that, and Rob Thompson certainly knows
that. So hopefully it starts soonerrather later. Okay, we knew,
we knew, Susan. You know, the office often happened to carry this
team. I mean, I knowthat this was going to be at a
(02:10):
walk and have the spot spot,no I am no, I am in
mind. But but the fifth startingstarting spot supposed to us to be on
segment segment. But but if youlook at him from we all we all
offensive, bang adding average, mum, the big, big n and all
(02:43):
this has been has a big appointmentstatement has been the first three months months
of the season season, Yeah,no doubt about it. And you know
it's funny because you know, ifyou take a step back and you put
everything in perspective, which which Itry and do as often as I can,
you know, here the Phillies sita game out of the wild card
(03:06):
at the moment with over you know, sixty some games to play, and
there's plenty of time to get thisthing figured out and locked in. Andre
But they're at this point. Yeah, they're at this point because their starting
pitching was so good through the monthof June and the early part of July,
and and they got just enough offenseto kind of get it done.
(03:27):
But ultimately, like I said inthe opening statement, it's it's this team
is built to score runs, atleast that was the thought, and they
could overcome any other kind of deficienciesif this offense produces the way we all
expect them to produce. And look, you know, maybe they get a
little bit of a reinforcement at thetrade deadline coming up next week. I
do think that's a possibility. Butat the end of the day, what
(03:50):
Rob said last night I think ispretty prophetic. It's it's if these guys,
these guys at the top of theline up, and we're talking about
Schwarber, we're talking Turner, castthe Harper and JT. Realmuto, these
guys have to produce. That's whatthis team is built on. That is
what that is who the this teamis built around. And If they're going
(04:11):
to produce, Phillies are gonna wina lot of games. If they don't
produce, the Phillies are not goingto get to where they want to be.
Absolutely, And I'm going to touchon that at the beginning of when
we get out of the box, because like I've been, I'm you know,
battling mostly Quimby and a few othersthis week on the outlook of this
team and the outlook of this season. And I put some numbers together yesterday
and I'm looking forward to sharing themwith you and share them with the audience
(04:33):
because, like you know, ideally, yes do we do. We want
the team to to finish what theywhat they almost had done last year and
win the World Series. Absolutely,m am. I going to look at
this season as a failure if theydon't do If they don't do it,
I mean, deep down in myheart as as a Phillies fan and knowing
that I want to I want toget back there, and I want to
win it, and I want tohave a championship because I mean, you
(04:54):
know, like you know how itis as a Philadelphia sports fan, we
don't have a lot to hanger hatson. And even those things that we
do, they happen a long timeago, so it's like, you know,
you kind of want to you know, hey, listen, you know
the Eagles were on the doorstep ofwinning a Super Bowl. The Phillies are
on the doorstep of winning the youknow, the World Series. Last year,
the Union they lost in the MLSCup even though, like you know,
I know John Jansen is a isa big Union guy, but you
(05:15):
know, it doesn't mean as muchto me as if the Eagles and Affillies
would have finished a job. Butyou know, to get back to that
point now, I'm going to sharethese numbers with your mirth because they're mind
boggling. It's it's like, Idon't want to say it's impossible, but
you know, the chances of yougetting back to a National League Championship Series
or even a World Series are verysmall, very mini school. But we'll
get to that as we as weget through this segment here, which is
(05:38):
brought to you by our good friendsover at State Farm. When you make

customer, all applicant subject to StateFarm underwriting requirements. All right, Murph,
let's give away our tickets like wenormally do here UM in the know
(06:20):
at the beginning of the show, and so today I wanted to, um,
you know, go down a littlebit of a path here. I
think last year we touched on liketrilogies, or over the last couple of
years we have m but you know, the second movie in a franchise,
so listen, you know the thirdone could be better, the fourth one
could be better. I mean, like you know, I'm not a Harry
(06:41):
Potter guy, but there was eightmovies, all right, So like you
know, I'm I'm not diving down, and like, you know, give
me the give me the seventh bestHarry Potter or you know whatever, Like
you know the seventh episode of HarryPotter, Um, you know the nine
episodes of Star Wars. Give methe second movie in a franchise that is
the best. Um. I havean idea of probably only one of them
that's on your list, because Iknow we've died down this road and I
(07:02):
know you've told me before. Sogive me, give me one of your
top five and then we'll move on. Yeah, I'll be honest. You
know, this is hard in asense because I was trying to kind of
think outside the box a little bit, and but honestly, most sequels are
dreadful, and so then you endup coming back to the standard ones that
(07:25):
are not dreadful. So my listis really predictable, and if you've listened
to the show at any point overthe last three years, you're probably gonna
get four out of the five onmy list, because we've talked about all
of them at some point. SoI'll give you I'll give you one of
them. And I think this madethe show last week if I remember,
I forget what the topic was,but oh, vacation movie. So oh
(07:46):
you know what though, so thisdoesn't count because European Vacation came in number
two. So I'll give you adifferent one. I'll get yeah, fix
because I put Christians Vacation on thelist, but that doesn't count. So
I'll go recent. And I thoughtthis was a really good movie, certainly
entertaining movie. Um, you know, is it gonna win any cinematic awards
for you know, scriptwriter or anythinglike that. No, probably not.
(08:09):
But Top Gun Maverick the most recentTop Gun I thought it was. I
thought it was a really good movie. Yeah, it was a similar storyline,
but but you know, all inall, the way they put it
together, it was pretty entertaining. So I'll say Top Gun Naverick as one
of my top fun You're not justsaying that because you've become buddy buddy with
Miles Teller over the last seven eightmonths, right, No, you know,
(08:31):
I didn't even think about it.See a big fan of the show
is he is he listening right now? And I would imagine he is out
there on the west coast. He'sgotten up early just to catch us on
Budley Brouch. Well yeah, yeah, well it's probably Bunley Baseball Breakfast for
him out there on the last coast, yeah, or Bloody Mary's and you
know, just getting back in fromlast night. I don't know, but
but yeah, I'm sure Miles islistening. Awesome, Yeah, so I
(08:54):
gotta yeah, I already got abunch of people getting there's you know,
getting there's in and whatnot. I'mjust not even gonna take any of them.
Listen, the first one is thebetter one. But I'll tell you
what. The action scenes and inthis one, the Matrix too, I
enjoy. I enjoy the Matrix too. I the freeway scene is one of
the best action scenes in any movieever. Where it starts out and he's
(09:18):
he's whooping ass on all these guysin like this rotunda area, and then
like you know, he has tofly like five hundred miles like just to
save Morpheus off the top with thekey Maker when the two track the shows
collide. Phenomenal error. I'm outall of what you just said. I've
never seen the Matrix and I andI obviously haven't seen the Matrix too.
M It's just not anything that interestsme, which is why this list was
(09:41):
hard for me, because I knowall the best sequels are you know,
Superhero movies and the Star Wars franchiseand and and all of it, and
I have no interest in all ofthat, as folks know from listen listening
to the show. So you justsaid Morpheus and the key Master come out.
That doesn't interest me at all.So but that's why this listen is
(10:05):
hard. Yeah, no doubt aboutit. And so listen. We're giving
away the pair of tickets for PhilliesMarlins on Saturday, July ninth, at
six oh five pm. In orderto win, you must answer in the
comments section on the Green Legion RadioYouTube channel, the green Legion Facebook page,
or our Twitter handle at green Legion. Our collective favorite answer will win
at the beginning of the final segment. And before we get to the final
segment, you have to have thefirst segment and the middle segment, so
(10:26):
our second segment of the show, get your questions in. Do you have
any questions for us? Listen? You don't have to be a Phillies fan.
If you have questions about the Philliesthat you want us to answer that
we don't answer in the first segment, Go ahead, get them on the
board and get them in for us. Also, you know, listen,
trade deadline is a week away,so if you have questions that you want
to ask us, you know,Shoho tani. There's so many things like
that are going on right now MajorLeague Baseball, across the board. What's
(10:50):
going on with the National League wildcard pitcher? You know, nobody seems
to want to take any claim forany of those three spots. If you
guys have any questions, get themin. We have things to talk about
in the second segment. We loveto take on your questions there as well.
Murph. All right, so listen. I know I advertise it on
the run sheet that I want todo like an like you know, but
a sack attack today. And I'mprobably picking the wrong Sunday to do this
(11:11):
because the Phillies have lost four ina row and you know, they haven't
really taken the bull by the hornsas far as you know, hunkering down,
like hey, let's make sure thatwe don't finish with the third wild
card this year. Let's make surethat we don't wait until the you know,
the third the last game of theseason to clinch a wild card spot.
This year, Let's make things cushyand comfortable on ourselves this year instead
of having to battle this, youknow, all the way down to stretch,
(11:31):
like make it easy. It wouldbe nice for my health, It
would be fantastic, but I wouldbe remissed. I have to put this
out there because in the wild Cardera, the twenty eight World Series,
in the wild Card era, okay, So, out of the twenty eight
teams that have lost, okay,in the World Series in the wild Card
era, in the World Series, there's only been four teams that have lost
(11:54):
the World Series and return the followingseason. Four okay, out of twenty
eight teams okay, only the rulesand the twenty fifteen rules in the twenty
twenty two Astros one a year afterthey lost it. Okay, only five
teams and won a World Series andreturned the following year to defend it.
All right, The last team todo it was the OAO nine Phillies.
The other teams are all before theturn of the century, I mean,
(12:16):
ninety six Braves, the ninety eightYankees, and they returned to ninety eight
two thousand before losing in two thousandand one. Out of fifty six league
championship matchups in the wild card era, there's been twenty three occurrences where a
league champion from the previous season returnedto the LCS the following year. Out
of one hundred and two total teamsokay to play in in in the National
(12:37):
League or America League Championship Series. That's less than twenty five percent of the
time where they returned to the leaguechampionship as a league champion the following year.
And for those that want to sithere and continue to tal on the
braves and their jugger, not thatthey have okay finishing with the best record
in the league, how does thatwork out in the playoffs? Out of
fifty six best records between both leaguesand the wild card arrisons, nineteen nine
(13:00):
eleven times and twenty eight World Seriesmatchups where neither team with the best record
in their respective league advanced to theWorld Series. In contrast, only four
times of both teams made it inthe same year. Twice the team with
the worst record between the two oneonce, the best team with the overall
record one and then you know theother one, they had the same record.
And here's the last tidbit that Ihave for you, Murph, because
(13:20):
this just goes to tick me offabout how people want to sit here and
look at this team. Only seventimes has the team with the best record
in the whole league one at all, which is twenty five percent of the
time out of thirteen World Series matchups, were only one of the teams with
their league's best record makes it theteam with the better records eight and five
just because the Braves are hot andthey're they're playing great and we're gonna play
(13:41):
the Orioles this week, and theRays got off to a great start.
Like those three teams that are upthere with the best records in baseball,
just because they're there now doesn't meanthat they're going to be there later.
And we saw that last year. You know, the teams that had the
best records in the game. Lastyear we're what the Dodgers and in Houston.
Houston got to the World Series andone. But it doesn't always mean
that because you're the best record inthe regular season doesn't always mean that you're
(14:03):
gonna make it into World Series success. And if you're a baseball fan.
And you don't already know that, then I'm not sure you're a baseball fan,
you know. I mean, that'sthat's right. What everything you just
said is why when you lose fourgames in a row in the you know,
the month of July in a baseballseason, it's maybe you know,
(14:26):
I know, you were taking someheat from our Feitler's leader this week,
Quimby, and you know him sayinghe's, you know, disturbed about how
this team is playing. Losing fourgames in July in a major league baseball
season is literally akin to losing thefirst six and a half minutes of Game
three in an NFL season. Imean it's like, okay, you know,
(14:48):
it's do you want to win?Yes, of course you do,
But it's losing four games in Julya reason to be like this team stinks
and we're all out and we're gonnacheat. Well, I mean sure you
could do that if you like, but it doesn't make any sense. And
and so I don't have a wholelot of patients, as you know,
for that idea that you know youlive and die with every single game in
(15:13):
a major league baseball season, there'sa hundred and sixty two of them.
We are not even a game onehundred yet of this season. Think about
that, you know. So it'slike, Okay, the Phillies are not
playing well right now. The Philliesdid not play well in May. The
Phillies played really well in June andthe beginning of July. They might play
(15:35):
really well in August and September. We have to wait and see. But
until then, this idea that wehave to, you know, trade everybody
and change the lineup and go outand get six new pitchers. It's just
it doesn't make any sense. Ifyou follow the game of baseball on a
(15:56):
daily basis, you know there aregoing to be times. And the Braves
lost four in a row a couplelast week, right, I think it
was four in a row, maybeit was three. The Braves are the
best team in baseball. They are. They have the best record, they
have the most talent, and theyare playing the best. Does that mean
they're going to win the World Series? No, of course it doesn't.
Does it mean that they are favoredto win the World Series? Yeah?
(16:19):
I would think they're favored at thispoint to win the World Series, but
as we saw, you just neverknow. And that's the beauty of baseball,
and that's why get in and seewhat happens. And that's what the
Phillies are trying to do, nodoubt about it. And in the process
of trying to do that, likelisten, this was this argument that I
had with Quimby was before they lostfour in a row. So I just
(16:40):
look, even I look even moreridiculous as we're going, so you don't
know, he looks ridiculous. Butbecause that's well, I need it.
To my point I move. Ineed a move the point in a row,
and your point is still a validneed. That's the point I need
Quimby to moved to Fort Lauderdell sohe stops watching the Phillies on a regular
basis. We love quickly, buthis take on this is incorrect and that's
(17:03):
just the latest absolutely, So yeah, I just want to put those numbers
out there because it's been bothering me, and um, you know, I
see that I can bother you aswell. But what didn't bother me It
was my first impressions of Bryce Harperplaying first base on Friday night. Man,
he'd he picked up pretty well overthere. And listen, I don't
think any of us had any inklingor you know, we didn't have any
doubts that that Bryce was going tohave success over there at first base.
(17:27):
I mean it's a it's a transition. I mean, you know, he
came up, you know, throughthis sism like initially he was drafted as
a catcher, and we all knewhe wasn't gonna wind up there when he
got to the big leagues. Buthe's largely played in right field during his
during the course of his career.Um. But Bryce Harper again at first
base today, Um, you know, this seems to be moving in the
direction of do you honestly think thatthis is something that we're going to see
(17:49):
from Bryce through the rest of hiscareer. Is that this is going to
be the permanent transition for him,or do you think it's somewhere down the
line we're going to see him backout in the corner outfield spot. Yeah.
So I yeah, I got youand and and you were making your
point about Bryce Sharper um, whichwhich was a good one. Yeah.
Yeah, any he was going tocome out and fall flat on his face.
(18:11):
Um, he's too good of alady's talented, and he's put a
lot of work in to trying toget to the point. But I do
think he impressed certainly in Game oneat first base. I mean, I
don't necessarily think anyone wants to seehim flying into the camera well again and
making catches like that, because youjust want to keep him healthy obviously,
But but it was it was impressive, and look, that's the way he's
(18:32):
gonna play, and I think that'sthat's the only fear getting him back out
there in the field is that perhapsyou know, injury risk goes up a
little bit for Bryce Sharper. Butyeah, I thought the first game we
got a chance to see him, super small sample size, he really you
know, did well for himself interms of that. So it remains to
beause he's back out there at firstbase this afternoon and we'll get another opportunity
(18:56):
to look at him. So um, you know, it remains to be
seen whether or not the experiment willlast for a long term, but at
least in the short term, it'sbeen oka. Do we look at maybe
we're going to see him back toback at some point this week before the
trade deadline on Tuesday, August first, or is this going to be in
every other day type thing. Andalso at the same time, listen,
I know j Kay has been tearingto cover off the ball down in Triple
(19:17):
A and he's getting to start outin left field again today. But Johan
Rojas played really well for the Philliesin those few games that we got to
see that small sample size of him. Why aren't we seeing him back in
the lineup. He hasn't played sinceTuesday. Yeah, well, I don't
I don't have an answer for thatother than that's just the way that Rob
has has put the lineup out.But you know, first of all,
(19:38):
let me ask your answer your firstquestion. I do think we will see
Bryce back to back at some point. You know, I don't see any
reason why. I think it'll probablylargely depend on, well on two things.
Obviously Bryce feeling comfortable out there andfeeling healthy, but also you know
who the starting pitcher might be andhow they can construct the lineup because of
(20:00):
that. So for those two things, I don't think there's a steadfast rule
that you won't see him in backto back games. And I do think
probably it's important to see that beforethe trade deadline, and the front office
certainly would like to see that. So, yeah, if I had to
bet, we're going to see that. And you know what I think that
Jay cave out in left field is. You know, certainly it's an upgrade
(20:22):
defensively from Kyle Schwarber. And hewas swinging the bat so well down there
at the Leigh Valley, And look, let's be honest, this teammates offense
right now. So if he cankind of get any of that and bring
that here to the big league level, that's a bonus for the Phillies in
terms of the offense. So Ithink they want to give him an opportunity
and not cool him off on thebench. Give him an opportunity out there.
(20:44):
All right, So don't hang outa loan in the man cave for
baseball this season. Try hanging outa cheerleaders with sexy entertainers, four dollars,

Scott Rowland and Fred mcgriffs. We'regonna talk a little bit about them as
well as do we think Chase Sutleyand Jimmy Rollins belong in the Baseball Hall
of Fame? Right here on budLay Baseball brought to you by Cheerleaders.
Gentlemen's Club will be right back rightafter this the Gambler Phillies Home for all
(21:33):
things sports Gambling. Welcome back secondsegment here. It's beautiful Sunday in the
Delaware Valley. We lead you infor Phillies Guardians. Still feels weird saying
(21:56):
that this afternoon from a lot ofprogressive field. Murph will bring you in

(22:38):
seven five three four five one nineeight, or go to the website we
hate dirty Windows dot com as wehate dirty Windows dot com. All right,
murv, so let's carry on theconversation here. Can you provide us
any injury update on the two bigbullpen arms that the Phillies have and Sir
Anthony Dominguez and Jose Alvarado Wind, can we expect and maybe see them back
(23:00):
in Philly uniforms again soon on themound? Yeah, So, Sir Anthony
Dominguez is getting close. He isgoing to throw another rehab assignment today for
the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. They'reactually in Toledo playing the mud Hend so
it's he pitched on Friday, cameout of that feeling good. He looked
pretty good as well. They werehappy with the way he looked. So
(23:22):
he'll pitch again today and then Iguess perhaps they maybe they may want to
see him in a back to backgame before they bring him back to the
big leagues. But obviously he's gettingclose. So I think we're going to
see Sir Anthony Domiguez back in thatbullpen, you know, within the week
or so. As for Jose Alvarado, he continues to play catch you know
(23:44):
here. I think he's out toseventy five feet now on back to back
days, which is a good sign. But obviously, you know, he's
got a little bit of ways togo. He hasn't gotten up on the
mound yet, but he seems tobe progressing, feeling pretty good. So
he'll get up on the mound probablyin the next couple of days, throw
maybe to some live hitters and kindof follow that same path that Saranthony did.
So maybe we'll see Jose Alvarado ina rehab as sign that, you
(24:07):
know, in the next ten daysto fourteen days kind of thing. So
he's making progress, but certainly Saranthonyis right around the corner to piggyback off
of that with adding them both back, because everybody always likes to say,
well, hey, you know, getting getting guys back from injury is almost
the equivalent of making a trade, right, So you know, adding Sir
Anthony Dominguez and Jose Alvarado to thatbullpen strengthens it fortifies it even more,
(24:30):
along with Craig Kimball and Gregory Sotoand Junior Marte and Balladi and all these
guys that they had out there thatcan that can throw and be effective in
doing so. But we all knowthat the Phillies bullpen is much better when
Sir Anthony and Alvarado were back there, especially being you know, two of
the big key pieces that we haddown the stretch run last season and into
the World Series. So in lightof that, now, the trade deadline,
(24:52):
as we previously discussed in the firstin the first segment, is Tuesday,
August first. It's coming up.It's you know a little bit more
than a week way. And weall know that Dave Dombrowski is he's shopping.
You know, he's not gonna sitthere. He's not going to just
sit there outside on the curb andjust look inside the window, and you
know, windows shop. No,Dombrowski wants to go in there and make
(25:14):
moves because he knows this team isbuilt to win. They're built to win
now. They were on the doorsteplast year, there were two wins away
from winning a World Series. Theywant to get the job done. So
in light of that, what arewe looking at If you're looking at this
team and what their needs are offensepitching, which way which route are you
going? What is the more necessaryevil of the two that this team needs
(25:36):
to get over the hump in thefinal two months of the season. You
know, it's I think it's difficultto say. I mean, even as
close as we are to the tradedeadline, I think it's hard to say
which direction the Phillies will go interms of trying to make this team better.
Dave Dombrowski talked to the writers lastweek. I believe it was on
Wednesday, and you know, obviouslyhe was peppered with questions about the trade
(25:59):
dead line, and you know,he started his opening statement by basically saying,
we are in the market to makethis team better, and he didn't
want to get into too many specificsof how he thought that they could do
that. But certainly getting another batand helping this offense probably you know,
an outfield defender and a right handedbat perhaps in this lineup is a route
(26:22):
that they would like to explore. But the problem is that they have a
you know, they have to havesomeone that's willing to be a partner in
all of that. And I don'tthink that they want to just kind of
give up the farm either. Youknow, you're certainly going to have to
trade some of your prospects if you'regoing to get a player back that's going
to make an impact going forward. You have to be resolved to that fact.
(26:45):
But I don't think they want togive up all of their prospects,
as they've you know, spent alot of time over the last two three
years trying to build up that minorleague system to the point where it is
right now. So and he wenton to say, you know, certainly,
like every other team that is workingtowards the postseason and that it's going
to be buyers at the trade deadline, any kind of pitching depth is a
(27:07):
good thing, and certainly for thePhillies, any kind of starting pitching depth
would be a good thing. Theylike what Christopher Sanchez has done. He
made that very clear. But ifthere's an opportunity to make that rotation even
better, the phills would would jumpat that. But again, and should
we sit here but ten days beforethe trade deadline or whatever it is,
(27:29):
you know, there are still teamsout there that are trying to figure out
whether they're buyers or whether they're sellers. And until that kind of, you
know, until that shakes out andyou have a real clear idea of okay,
who's giving up some of their playersand who's nuts, it's difficult to
kind of crack the plan because youjust don't know what's available out there.
He mentioned prospects and the Phillies numberone prospect, Andrew Paynter slave for Tommy
(27:52):
John surgery. You know, thishas been kind of on the fence.
We've kind of been beaten around thisfor the last five months. So what
has taken so long for the Philliesto get to this point to finally take
this step to put you know, their top prospect, the prize arm of
entrepainter under the knife and and prettymuch putting him out until his year twenty
(28:15):
two. I mean, I mean, the guy is so young. Um,
you know, he's twenty years oldright now. He's gonna will practically
miss off next year with his twentyone year old season. But by the
time we have an opportunity to potentiallysee entrepainter in this rotation, he'll be
twenty two years old in twenty twentyfive. What has taken so long to
get to this point in this decision? And uh, you know, what
are some of the feelings around youknow, Phillies front office and the players.
(28:37):
Yeah, I mean, well,I mean it's an easy answer.
The reason it took till now tomake that decision is because the best doctors
in the country who he is seeing, um this did not think that surgery
was warranted yet. Uh. Andnow they do and and and that's the
difference. At this point, hehas made progress. There was some healing
(28:59):
in that in the elbow, butnot enough to the point where they think
it's going to get to a levelwhere he can go out and pitch and
pitch at the big league any levelreally effectively. So they have made the
decision that surgery is warranted. Nowhe's going to seek a second opinion tomorrow
out on the West Coast doctor elatroshAnd and presumably he'll be an agreement with
(29:22):
the Phillies doctors that surgery. Isthat the same doctor that did Bryce the
surgery. Yes, okay, yeah, he's one of the best in the
country, does an awful lot ofMajor League Baseball players. So they'll they'll
talk to him tomorrow and if heagrees, which is probably exactly what's going
to happen, then he's going tohave the surgery. At the end of
(29:44):
the day, you know, makingthat decision, it's easy for us to
sit back here and be like,Okay, he's got elbow issues. You
know, surgery, He's got tohave surgery. If if you can avoid
surgery, that's what you want todo. And the Phillies were trying to
give him an opportunity to avoid surgery. It's just it's just not in the
card. So it looks like that'swhat's going to happen. Um and and
(30:06):
and and it's a shame I thinkthat you asked about the feeling in the
front office. I think ultimately, first and foremost, they're just disappointed for
Andrew because, you know, cominginto spring trainee looked like he might have
an opportunity to help this team thisyear as a nineteen year old. I
mean, it was a terrific story. He's an unbelievable talent. And then
and then the injury happened. Soit's frustrating, it's it's disheartening for for
(30:32):
Andrew and his family and certainly forthe Phills organization. But to your point,
he'll miss his age twenty one yearand he'll be back at age twenty
two and presumably as as good asever because Tommy John Surgery and hockholm Wood
has been so successful for so manyball players um around the league. So
(30:52):
you got to expect that, youknow, in twenty twenty five, he
might very well be a part ofthis route and a part of this organization.
Um, it's just a shame thatthey won't have him next year because
I think they thought he would probablybe a big part of the team next
year. It might also affect howthey how they view aaronola Um you know,
in his in his free agency situationmoving forward. You know, they
(31:14):
got to fill in that that spacesomehow. Um So Murphy, I forgot
to do this with you last week, and this is more of a slash
idea and I'm unfortunately slashes him herewith us today in studio. But the
Philly has released the twenty twenty fourschedule, so I think, do you
have to schedule in front of you? We got to do the win loss
records here? Yeah, well, are we extending the show for another sixty
(31:37):
minute? Is that what we're doing? Uh? Yeah, It much like
our conversation in the first block. It's a little bit different when when a
baseball schedule comes out than when afootball schedule comes out. But uh yeah,
I you know, I obviously theschedule comes out, we glanced at
it. I look at it.I love it. Love it. Yeah,
I love it too. I loveit too. And I like looking
to see, you know, howit's going to flow over the course of
(32:00):
next season, and what cities willbe visiting, and you know where the
off days will be and all thekind of stuff. I mean, that's
the kind of the way I lookat it. But in terms of trying
to figure out wins and losses asa baseball team goes through, yeah,
I'll pass on that. I wantedto see if you're reviewing the run Sheeter,
you were just going, this isjust you know, Sack being a
sack. You know, Nope,I read it every week every week.
(32:22):
You probably you're probably surprised that yougot the run sheet last night during the
game, I actually was I've beenbattling, battling my allergies the last couple
of days, so I was like, I want to get it done so
I could sleep in on Sunday morninga little bit before the kids wake me
up. But yeah, so Idid tease this coming into, you know,
into this second segment. And todayis a big day. I mean,
(32:43):
you know from Major League Baseball. It's a Hall of Fame induction ceremony
weekend, big time. On Sunday. You have Scott Roland, former Philadelphia
Philly that's coming into the Hall ofFame and one of our adversaries over the
years, the crime dog Fred McGriff, who, like, I want to
get your thoughts and your opinions onthe two of them. But just I
(33:04):
Scott Roland was one of my favoriteplayers growing up. I love Scott Rowland.
I still do. I look forwardto him coming back and going on
the Wall of Fame at the endof September. He wants to be there,
he wants to be a part ofit. He had a conflict issue
with with Wall of Fame weekend, you know, coming up in in August.
But man Fred McGriff, my dadtook me to the nineteen ninety three
n LCS. He took me togame two. So my dad had an
(33:25):
opportunity he split his seventeen game planwith a buddy of his and so was
probably was all right, well, you choose which game do you want?
And my Dad's like, I wantGame two because I'm guaranteed a game which
we could have been at game six. We could have been at the penclincher,
which i've been at the last twothanks that, you know, no
thanks to dad, which we wouldhave had in ninety three. But we're
at game two and Fred McGriff hita ball in that game that still has
(33:46):
not landed it yet, but phenomenal. Those two going into the Hall of
Fame well deserved your thoughts and youropinions on both Scott Roland and Fred McGriff.
Yeah, I agree. I thinkthey're both were the inductees into Cooperstown.
You know, it's it's always kindof a shame when you see a
player like Fred McGriff and that talentlevel drop off. The writer's ballot for
(34:08):
for whatever reason not elected that way, but then it gets in with the
players Committee. So yeah, tipmy cap to Fred McGriff. He was
an awesome player to watch as Igrew up and and an incredible talent.
So yeah, a lot of funand Scott Roland, I agree with you.
You know, I know there's afaction of fans in Philadelphia that,
(34:30):
for whatever reason, have a problemwith Scott Roland. But I had a
chance early in his career to coverScott when he was here in Philadelphia,
and he was always gracious and aterrific player. I was always a guy
that love defense, and if youlove defense, the way Scott played third
base was just absolutely remarkable. SoI'm thrilled to see him get in to
(34:55):
the Hall of Fame, and Ithink it is well deserved as well.
And I will tell you that todayon the pre game show. You know,
back in ninety seven is what iswith Scott Rowland's first full year.
Of course, he was with thePhillies. He won Rookie of the Year
that year. The manager of thatteam, Terry Francona, right, so
he's also the manager obviously here inCleveland, A teammate of his was Kevin
(35:16):
Stoker, who is sitting right overhere to my right. So Kevin and
Terry Francona got together yesterday and hada little conversation about Scott Roland. We're
gonna bring that to you on thepregame show coming up in a little bit.
That's awesome. And being that we'retalking about Hall of Fames, you
know what's funny is that the twothousand and eight Phillies might be one of
(35:36):
the only teams of like the lastIt's a remarkable statistic. I'll have to
look at them, but they mightbe one of the only teams over the
last like fifty to sixty years thathave had a team win the World Series
and not one single Hall of Famerin from that team. So well,
yeah, well yeah, yeah. And listen, I saw this yesterday and
(35:58):
Jason Stark, you know, hehe puts it all out there. To
me, Chase Utley is a Hallof Famer, you know, like his
peak, his ten year window, that the ten year window that he was
in, he had the second bestwar in baseball and that ten year window,
you know who was behind Albert Poles. So I mean, like pretty
pretty good player in his own right. But I think the Chase Utley and
(36:20):
Jimmy Rollins. And this is notme being a Phillies fan, me being
a homer. To meet Jimmy Rollins. If you measure his statistics up against
Barry Larkin, they're very similar innature. Both Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley
should be in the Hall of Fame. Where's your view on that? Yeah,
I tend to agree with you,but I will throw out the caveat
that. I do think there's aslight bias on my part when I'm talking
(36:43):
about guys like Jimmy Rollins and ChaseUtley, because you know, having a
chance to be around those guys, having a chance to watch them every day
and and you know, talk tothem and cover those guys, you you
get a real appreciation for what theydo on a daily basis, how they
go about their work. And youknow, Chase's work ethic was legendary and
(37:05):
the player that he built himself into, um, you know, it just
seemed like he got better every yearuntil until injury kind of derailed his career.
So I think they both deserve, certainly, they deserve to be in
the conversation and I would like tosee them both eventually get into the Hall
of Fame, and I think Ithink Chase probably will, and I think
(37:27):
Jimmy is right there on the onthe cusp, and if I was voting,
I certainly would vote for Jimmy Rollinsas well. So those two guys
I think are deserved of the Hallof Fame. Certainly, when you step
back and look at some of theguys that have gotten in before them,
and you compare the numbers, Ithink that you can make an argument for
both those guys getting in. Allright, So the Green Legion we are
here to tell you it's time tomake your reservations for another amazing Eagle season
(37:52):

be changing in name. Again, make sure you check out the Cheerleaders Gentlemen's

That's two one five six six sixfive nine four zero twenty one years
and counting for the best Eagles roadtrips around On the other side. In
our final segment, Murph was textingme last week in a panic about the
fact that he thought he was goingoh and three actually didn't turn out too
(38:37):
bad for him. Right here inbud Light Baseball Brunch on one or two
point five Fox Sports to Gambler,we'll be right back after these messages,
spreads, totals, spend all theprop that's in between. It's the Gambler.
(38:59):

out is our friends over at theLudlum Hotel in Seattle City. Yes,

complimentary beach tags for all registered adultswalking distance to everything. Check out Ludlum

(39:44):
zero nine two sixty three seven eighttwo nine for all your reservation, dining,
or entertainment questions. The Ludlum Hotelyour new oasis in Sea Isle City.
All right, murf, give methe rest of your top five best
sequels, second movie in a franchise, Give me your final four. I
already gave you the one. Igave you a top gun Maverick, which
(40:07):
Kevin Stocker also decided was what shouldbe on the list. So we'll give
Stock some credit. I asked gotFransky, not a movie guy, so
he didn't have an answer for that. But all right, so the rest
of my list. I always appreciatetheir input, always love having their input
in the show, no doubt aboutit. All Right, So I'll kind
of start from the bottom. Um, this was a great franchise, I
(40:28):
thought. And uh, if yougo back and watch these movies, uh,
they were really funny, but they'realso you know, they're entertaining their
you know, in the the copsense. They're exciting that kind of thing.
So Lethal Weapon two was I actuallythink it was better than Lethal Weapon
one. Um, and uh sothat that that made my list. It's
(40:49):
been a long time since I've seenthat. But Lethal Weapon two makes the
list for me. Uh, andthen there's just the obvious ones at that
point, Rocky Too, right,I mean, it's it's a terrific movie.
It's you know, almost as goodas the first one. Some people
would argue as good, if notbetter than the first one, and then
the same argument, and I thinkmost people believe that this sequel is better
(41:12):
than even the first one. IsGodfather Too. Godfather Too is one of
the great movies of all time. And so I think you have to put
Godfather two on the list. AndI told you my other one was Christmas
Vacation, but that doesn't count becausethat doesn't fit into the criteria. That
was the third movie in the inthe in the trilogy of well and now
now four. But so so Itake that one off the list. I
(41:35):
don't have a replacement for it.So just to four today, Godfather Too,
Top Gun Naverick, Rocky two,and Lethal Weapons too. All right,
so let's run down the list ofcandidates here, Terminator two, Back
to the Future Too, Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Karate Kid too,
D two, The Mighty Ducks,Bad Boys Too, the Dark Knight,
(42:00):
Godfather too, die Hard too.Okay, well, obviously I gotta
go with the one that's on mylist, and I think is really the
right answer to this question anyway,So Godfather Too gets it for me,
being that I know unhappy go moreRay here, and I still have to
watch both of those Godfathers. Iknow, I'll take care of it.
(42:22):
I'll take care of it. Isaw good Fellas get off my back a
little bit, you know, notyou, but you know out there.
I'm gonna go with the Dark Knighthere. And the reason why I'm doing
that is because, now, doesdoes Stock want to be our tiebreaker between
the two of them, or doI go to John Jansen across the board
here? I think go to JJ. Yeah, go to John Jansen's probably
(42:42):
gonna piggyback off of me. Herebecause he has he saw Oppenheimer yesterday by
Jansen Godfather too with a dark Knight. Why are you making me big?
Why am I making actually? Whyam I making you work? Right now?
He's he's watching the US or theBritish opener rare movies. Godfather two
(43:05):
is the winner, I believe.I think that's Keenan Harmon two sucks,
Die Hard two sucks. Now I'llfigure out who the Godfather was, all
right, Murph, So let's goahead, and while I'm doing that,
let me get your first pick forthis week. Now, while we do
that, we both went one andtwo last week, all right? And
as I is going into this finalsegment here, Murf wasn't a bit of
(43:28):
a panic. U Normally I don'tget explanation points out of Murf, but
I could feel that there was alittle bit of worry on his end.
But you did get to come backlate in the game from the brew crew,
so you got your underdog pick. You got two points out of that.
So I put you at twenty andnineteen overall, twenty five and a
half points on the season. Ididn't mur I'm telling you this right now.
(43:51):
I was doing the runs sheet lastnight. I had no idea that
the Rangers came back with a fourrun eighth. I thought I was oh
and three. I was like, man, I was talking all this crap
last week on you, and soI got one point because the Rangers scored
four runs in an eighth inning towin and sparing me at own three.
An embarrassing week which would have beenmy first one of the season. I'm
twenty three and sixteen now with twentynine points on the season. Murph,
(44:15):
give me your first pick for today'saction, Okay, and I went with
the same philosophy that I went withlast week. I don't know if that's
good or bad because I went oneand two on a week, but I
put about forty five seconds worth oftime and thought into my picks this week.
So take that for what it's worth. I appreciate your intel on this,
you know. Yeah, yeah,I'll give you my favorite first.
(44:37):
And I have absolutely no reason forthis other than it seems like a strange
line for me. The San FranciscoGiants are favored over the Nationals, but
it just one twenty they are favored, so not a huge favorite in that
game. But I think the Giantsprobably win easily today, so they beat
the Nationals. I'll think the Giantsis my favorite, all right, So
(44:58):
congrats to Lou Man's Tenie, whowas the winner of the tickets for Godfather
two. He got that in therepretty much as soon as I went live
here on stream Yard, So congratulations, Lou. I will get them over
to you. I'm gonna go withmy favorite this week. I'm gonna take
the Twins minus one fifty at homeagainst the dreadful White Sox. Bailey over
versus Lucas Giolito again, Twins areat home. Geolito is announcing his divorce
(45:23):
during the course of the home runderby a couple of weeks ago. Did
you see that on Instagram? Idid not, So things aren't going well
at home for Lucas and he's probablystaring down the barrel of the gun of
being traded at some point over thenext week. So I'm gonna take the
Twins at home today to sweep theWhite Sox. Give me your second one,
okay, second one, I'll giveyou my underdog today. Again.
(45:45):
I have no reason for this otherthan it's just a gut Orioles over the
Rays. The Orioles are favored inEric. I'm sorry the Rays are favored
in this one there minus one fortyagainst the Baltimore Orioles. Don't know Orioles
are playing well, They're coming toPhilly this week, so I'm taking the
Orioles to win that game over theraise. The Rays have been foundering a
(46:07):
little bit. It's a big gameobviously in the American League East as well
as those two teams are battling fortop spots there one and two. So
give me the Orioles as underdogs.Well, okay, I'm actually gonna do
something that neither of us has donesince we got on to this point system
over the last couple of years.Murph, I am going to take somebody
(46:27):
that is a heavy dog. Okay, Rockies plus two twenty, I hit
this, I get three points. So the reason why I'm doing this is
Miami has lost eight in a row. Now, being a heavy favorite to
end an eight game losing streak,I'm not and no Lazardo's pitching today,
but I'm going for the three pointsthis week. I just I got a
hunch I want them all to loseagain. This is a bold move,
(46:52):
Cotton, so I'm going for theextra point here with the three pointer,
give me your over under. Okay, finally the over under today Alex Manoah
and Brian Woo on the hill forthe Mariners and Blue Jays. Right Brian
who? Bran? I don't know. And Manoah's been just, you know,
pretty dreadful most of the season. So the overrunner in this is just
(47:15):
eight and a half. I'm takingthe over Mariners Blue Jays. I think
they're going to score some runs outthere, So that's my call and we'll
see what happens. All right,My overrunner for this week, I'm gonna
go under ten and a half MetsRed sox SO minus one oh five on
Sunday Night Baseball. Reason for thisis they had to finish up Friday Nights
game yesterday and then they had toplay another game last night. So with
(47:38):
two games yesterday, I don't seea ton of runs coming on the board
for that, I'm gonna take theunder in ten and a half at Fenway
Pack Can you believe it? Thousandsof what a text to five and a
(48:07):
wild face RBI ahead, can youbelieve it? Two things we found interesting
from this past week in Major LeagueBaseball, MURF, give me your first
one, all right, So I'mgonna start with the Hall of Fame themed
Ye can you believe it? Becausewe're talking about Fred McGriffin, Scott Roland
(48:27):
going into Cooperstown today. Obviously,if you get to that level in your
career, you've done some pretty specialthings. How about this for Fred McGriff,
Players with two hundred plus home runsin both the American League and the
National League, it's a short list. Frank Robinson, Albert Poolholes, Mark
McGuire, Vlad Guerrero, Ken GriffeyJunior, Carlas Beltran, and Fred McGriff.
(48:49):
That's a pretty good list to beon. And a couple of Hall
of famers on that list as well. Fred McGriff joins them today and a
couple more that'll be joining him lateron for sure. Showha Tanny and we
can name the segment after him ifwe wanted to. Shoeotani had up until
a certain point, had hit twentythree home runs in his lef his previous
forty games, a span. Onlytwo other players over the last twenty seasons
(49:14):
had accomplished. The two players thatwent on to do that Jail Accounton Stanton
and Ryan Howard. Okay, twentythree home runs in a forty game span.
Okay, there you go. Um, and and my other one is
just it's kind of it's just interesting. You know, there's so much talk
surrounding Juan Soto of the San DiegoPadres right now. Is he gonna get
(49:37):
traded at the trade deadline? Youknow, who's gonna get him? That
kind of thing. Well, hecontinues to swing the bat. He did,
he did not look good in histime here in Philadelphia when the Padres
were in town. But he's beenswinging the bat pretty well. And uh,
just the other day he hit twohome runs in the game combined over
nine hundred feet of home runs, both well over four hundred feet in that
(50:01):
game. So I can swing ita little bit. Yeah, he got
he got charged twice for calling longdistance on those ones, for sure.
And so the other day, inMajor League Baseball history, there was twelve
teams that scored ten plus runs inone day, which which tied with May
(50:21):
thirtieth, eighteen eighty four for thesecond most on a single day all time,
behind only the fourth of July eighteenninety four. Thirteen teams did it.
Fireworks that day courtesy is Sarah LANs. Yes, absolutely, a ton
of off of the power. Youknow what, Phillies joined the party anytime
you want to, let's get somedouble digit runs at some point. It
(50:44):
would be nice. Maybe today, possibly, but it's possible. Especially I'll
tell you why. I love whatTopper did. I love what he said
last night in the media. I'msure he's saying this behind closed doors.
But there's two things last night thathad to tick him off. It's the
offensive, you know, ineptitude thathas existed over the course of like largely
(51:06):
over the course of the last fourdays, the last four games here being
shut out twice in the last two, twice in the last three. And
then I'm sure he had something tosay to his players when marsh Cassianos and
Stott didn't catch that pop fly.Zach Wheeler's cruising, having a great outing
and that's the one run that hegives up and we lose that game.
But you can't score. You can'twin unless you score. So looking at
(51:27):
this week ahead, today's finale againstthe Guardians, we're walking in the red
hot Baltimore Orioles. You know, one of the American League's best teams and
one of the best teams in MajorLeague Baseball comes to town for three off
on Thursday, and then we headto Pittsburgh, which starts the beginnings of
a seven game road swing through Pittsburghand Miami. Your thoughts, Yeah,
(51:49):
you know, I mean again,I feel like we say this almost every
sun start today. Yeah, youhave to, you know, go out
and worry about today first and foremost. I think when the Phillies arrived here
in Cleveland, they thought a serieswin was certainly within the within their grasp.
That's not going to happen. They'regonna they've dropped their second consecutive series
for the first time since late inMay. But bless you Stock, but
(52:15):
uh, but you know they needto salvage a game here in Cleveland.
Um. You know, this Guardiansteam is a good team, but but
certainly a team that the Phills don'twant to get swept by. And so
it starts today. You gotta hopethat Aaron Nola can kind of build off
of what he did in his laststart, and he's really good. They've
got a kind of a bullpen goatgame going today for the Guardians, So
(52:38):
hopefully we see a little bit oflife out of the offense, they put
up a couple of crooked numbers.Perhaps give Aaron Knowleis an early run support.
I think I looked this up lastnight, and the Phillies obviously fell
behind again yesterday because they ended uplosing that game one nothing. The Phillies
have fell behind in nine of theirlast ten games. Now they haven't stoll
(53:00):
those games, but they've fallen behindin nine of their last ten games.
How about getting out to an earlyleague and and maybe front and running a
little bit? That would be idealhere on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and progressive,
no doubt about it. And thenuh, real quickly last week when
I went down the runs of youknow who who I was thanking I forgot
to thank our buddy, the Metsfan, Mike Powers, who actually got
(53:22):
to play golf with John Kruk.I don't know if you've heard about that
um that Sean Brace's outing last weekto swing and ding it the charitable um
U golf tournament that they had thispast Monday, But I want to thank
him for setting up us up lastweek on the on the Gambler feed,
uh for taking care of things andin those clips that he put out there.
(53:43):
Uh man, you you got alot of buzz off of those clips
on the on the Gambler feed lastweek. Everybody wants to hear what Murph
has to say. I did.Yeah, yeah, I'll tag you in
until you can check it out.But I appreciate uh, you know,
Mike stepping in and helping us,someone helping us out last week with our
situation with Murf not wanting to getwet walking across the street to Extina Live,
(54:06):
but a solid decision on Murf.Appreciate your time, brother. I
