To be honest, that's tired,I know, I gotta ask the question.
A little tired, but all goodand good win last night. Just

(01:23):
tons of energy at the ballpark lastnight, which is really fun, really
cool. We should have another selloutcrowd here today on this Sunday afternoon.
Phillis looking to win this series. So yeah, all in all things are
good, things are rolling. You'dlike this team to get on that role
that we've talked about winning, youknow, seven of eight, you know,
eight of ten kind of thing, and I think it's gonna happen,

(01:46):
I really do. You know, you finish up today with Kansas City and
hopefully the when the Nats come totown, who are playing better baseball right
now. Yea, but hopefully youcan do some damage against the Nationals for
the Twins come in here. Soyou know, the energy here in South
Philadelphia ten game homestand can only dogood things for this team. And I

(02:07):
think we saw that last night.Absolutely. And the lineup is out today
and there is there is a changein the lineup for today. A trade
Turner is no longer batting eighth inthe lineup, as he's to move up
to the sixth spot. JT Roalmutogetting a day off today and we'll talk
more about Brandon Marsh coming up.Johann Rojas is batting ninth in the lineup
as well. This first segment isbrought to you by our good friends over

(03:09):
was. You know, we weretalking about earlier, and we're gonna talk
about in the second segment because Icrossed Active Ballpark number twenty one off the
list on Friday night, So we'lltalk about where and when, and it's
a number twenty four overall. ButI got to do the experience with my
dad and my best friend Chad, and this past week we had the unfour
events of losing Chad's father this pastMonday. We's been like a second dad

(03:31):
to me, my whole entire life, twenty six years of being Chad's best
friend. UH love their family todeath. They're the greatest that there is.
You know. I'm thinking about mymom, Claire, Brendan, Aaron,
Chad today and the rest of thefamily, my nephews Jude and Charlie.
Love you guys to death and thinkingabout you. And I'll see you

(03:51):
guys tomorrow at the funeral. Allthe best and all the well wishes to
you guys in the whole family.Take you giveaway bringing it back this week
here? Um we did. Weskipped it last week. I guess I
was a little bit of too muchof a curmudgeon about how the Phillies were
playing at the time, particularly inPittsburgh last Saturday night. But hey,
you know, we are giving peoplehere on Green Legion Radio and bud Light

(04:13):
Baseball Brunch, So I'm gonna giveaway a pair of tickets today for Phillies
Marlins on Friday, September eighth atseven oh five. And I figured we
dive down something that we really haven'tdone before. I think this was more
so it might be on your list. But you know, I was watching
a movie the other night, andI'll tell you what movie that is,
as long as I'm not sure ifit is on your top five, it
might be, uh, you know, let me see it real quick.

(04:35):
It's not. I was watching GoodFellas the other night. It was on
TV, so you don't get thefull experience of watching it like watching a
movie. But he was on theTV and I was watching. I was
like, you know what, Iwas like, this is based off of
a true life story. So yourfavorite movie based on well, hey man,
you know it. Apparently that's whatthey're saying, that it was around

(04:57):
that that guy's life, you know, up true life story. All right,
all right, so give me oneof your top five and we'll get
the rest of them at the topof the final second. Yeah, kind
of a cool topic this one.Really. I had to kind of dig
deep and really start to think, that's what I try to aim for here.
Yeah, the hard hitting you tryto make me work real hard on
a Sunday morning. But no,it was It was cool to kind of

(05:18):
dive back into my memory try tothink of movies based on a true story
that I thought. So I kindof went with great movies based on a
true story, not necessarily the onesI love the most, although I do
like all five of the ones onmy list, So all right, I'll
give you one. I think thisone deserves to be on the list.
If you haven't seen it, gosee it. The movie Lincoln, obviously

(05:39):
based on the life of Abraham Lincoln. Amazing acting in the movie, a
terrific story. You know, wethink we know the story of Abraham Lincoln,
right, You know what you learnin school that kind of thing you
learn so much in these kinds ofmovies about our history. And I'm a
big US history guy to begin with. So, um, I thought that

(06:01):
was an awesome movie. And um, you know one of those movies that
we should all watch at some point. So Lincoln on my list. I'll
tell you what I enjoy. Polothirteen, great one, great great movie.
Tom Hanks. Uh, you knowBill Paxson's a great movie. Um.
I enjoyed every single time it's on. You know, it's funny because

(06:21):
like you know this, this willbe another one here. But obviously it's
not based entirely off the true story. But you know Titanic. My dad
always says, well, I don'tI don't want, I don't need to
see it. I know how themovie ends, That's what I said.
But I said to him and mydad, we'd break his balls all the
time about being a Tom Hanks guy. Um, but you know, like
a Polo thirteen, you know howthat one ends. They live. So

(06:41):
you know you're gonna watch one.You can't sit there and rip the other.
No, I can't Titanic. Ihave no interest in seeing Titanic,
none whatsoever. All right, Well, we've taken a few of them already,
so go to the message board onall of our social media platforms.
In order to win, you mustanswer a comment section on the Green Legion

(07:03):
All right, Murph, all thebox. Time here is the Phillies
had a four and three week afterfalling last Sunday in Pittsburgh, blowing Wednesday
night's game in Miami a few differenttimes, not just once, not just
twice, but a few different times, and then losing Friday Nights opener against
the Royals. Um lucky for them, the other teams in the wildcard race
have ruly faltered over the last week. You know, we were looking at

(07:23):
the wildcard standings yesterday and it waslike everybody behind us had an l The
only team that won the other nightwas the Giants. But you know,
so we're one game behind the Giants, and we hold a two game lead
for the second wildcard spot over theCincinnati Reds right now, and if you
want to take into account, weare a half game up on the Milwaukee
Brewers, who are leading to NationalLeague Central. So if they wind up

(07:44):
getting you know, tied in orintervened into the wildcard race, they're right
there. Yeah. And so whatI would say about all of that is
the Phillies had a decent week. They actually you know, obviously played well
down in Miami, which was theyhandled their own there. They were three
or four important if you're going towin a series and lose the series on
that trip, they did it theright way and they win three out of

(08:05):
four in Miami, despite losing twoof three in Pittsburgh, but which is
always a house of horrors for us. Yeah, it's insane. No,
we had won eight straight there orsomething like that. I'm talking about like
historic Miami Park. It's like historicallythe Phillies have been terrible park. That's
where I did my first big leaguegame with the television park. That's right.

(08:26):
Roy Holiday opened up against a J. Burnett. That's right opening day.
Yeah. I think they lost thatgame. They won one. Nothing.
We did win that game. Yeah, okay, they might probably won.
They probably lost the next two.Yeah, I don't. I don't
remember. I remember just being thereand and and no one. It was
my first one. But that's right, Well that happened. What what I

(08:48):
wanted to say though, was youknow, you mentioned the other teams in
baseball, and I think and andthis is true for fans right across Major
League Baseball. It's probably true forfans in the NHL and the end b
A and the NFL as well.I think you lose sight when you're watching
your particular team. You're watching yourteam, you're you're invested, You're watching,

(09:09):
you know, one hundred and twentyfive or one hundred and sixty two
games, and that's all you see. But you don't see is the other
teams and that they also have struggles, and they also go through losing streaks,
and they also lose games that theyshould have won, and they lose
two teams that you believe they shouldbeat. And that's and that's the nature

(09:31):
of baseball. And I think it'simportant as we, you know, go
towards the postseason that you remember thatthat the Cincinnati Reds have warts, the
Milwaukee Brewers have warts, the Giants, you know, all these teams that
are fighting for a postseason spot. The only one you can really say this
season is the Braves in the NationalLeague. In the National League, Yeah,

(09:54):
the Braves are the one team thatteam just heads entails better than everybody
else. Right and again, weknow what can happen in the postseason,
but but right now, the Bravesare just really good and everybody else is
just what you expect out of abaseball team, and that is the good
team's winning sixty percent of their games. That means you're gonna lose forty percent

(10:16):
of their games when it's all saidand done. And and I think that's
where we're at. And I thinkit's important every once in a while to
reset and kind of keep focus onthat because I don't know if we're the
Phillies have the third best winning percentagein the National League now or fourth,
but they're They've been bouncing back andforth between the two. But you think
about I think they're the fourth becausethe Dodgers, the Giants are ahead of
them and the Debrakes. Right,so they're the fourth in the National and

(10:37):
Milwaukee's a half game, right they'rethey're behind us, they're a half game
below us. Okay, so thatmakes them the third, right, Oh
no, it still makes the fourth. Yeah, So anyway, but they
had been bouncing big. But thepoint is, here you are, and
you think, you know, theworld's falling in the sky's fallen. They
lose two to Pittsburgh. They losethe first game to Kansas City. We
blew the game in Miami, andhere you are is the third or four

(11:00):
best team in the National League rightnow at a fifteen right and and then
when you put it in perspective likethat, it's like, Okay, it's
a long season. It's one hundredand sixty two games. I see every
pitch, you know, I seethem all and and and when you do
that, I think you're able tokind of keep perspective a little bit because
there are gonna be games Friday nightand there are gonna be games like the

(11:22):
game in Miami that they that theyblew three saves and um, and you
just have to accept it and moveon. It's I mean, I said
it on the post game. It'sstunk. I mean it was that was
hard to watch, yes, andand that was a loss that we're gonna
remember for a long time. ButI had said the night before remember for
a long time. So that's theway it works, and it happens for

(11:46):
every team. So perspective, that'sall perspective. And taking into perspective is
uh Trey Turner's season. You know, it's been a rough four months,
rough go of it in a Philliesuniform, Phillies pinch stripes. We've know,
we know what's in there. Imean, we saw it back in
March in the WPC and we've seenit historically. It's not like the guy
just completely forgot how to play baseball. Um, you know, Wednesday night

(12:07):
was was probably the rougher on him. Now, obviously the Roger doran ola
that he had on on Josh Bell'sgame tying single in the eleventh inning,
uh, you know, but forme, it was the bat that he
had in the top of the eleventhwhere he had Bryce Harper on third and
Bryson Stott on second. Just arough thing and he came out and he
took ownership of it. Um,you know, like, hey, this

(12:28):
this game is on me. Andlast night, maybe this is the turnaround
that we're looking for out of tradeTurner because six five, you know,
runners on and Scott Fransky had thecall, and I'm thinking, uh,
maybe he said something about how theinfield corners were in and they were maybe
trade turners looking a bunt in firstpitch and he blasted out of the ballpark.
And then he gets a you know, an insurance run in the later

(12:52):
innings and the eighth inning and givesus a three run lead. Uh.
Your perspective on trade Turner his strugglesand you know what you've seen from him
over the course of this homestand sofar with these first two games. Yeah,
you know, I'd be lying ifI said I understood why Trey is
having the season he's having. You'dbe making a lot more money if you
were doing that. You could bethe team psychiatrist instead of But but it

(13:16):
would be good for you if youknew exactly what's going on because he because
then I could tell Trey and thenand then we've been best bugs. Then
it'd be great. No. Um, it's it's an odd situation because we
know what a good player he is. Yes, we had him on the
postgame show last night and we talkedto him and he was, you know,
he's been, as you said, you know, taking ownership, obviously

(13:37):
getting up in front of the cameraswhen things are going poorly, he's there.
When things are going well, he'sthere. Um. And we had
him on last night and he said, you know, this is something that
he's never experienced at any level inbaseball, and that is this sustained three
month struggle to do his job atthe highest level, which is what he's

(14:00):
accustomed to. And he said, you know, I'm a guy that is
not afraid to make adjustments from gameto game. I go into the cage
and if I feel like something's likeand it's always allowed my slumps to be
to be short and I and Iand I'm able to break out of it,
he said. For whatever reason, this year, everything I try,
he said, if I do somethingright, it ends up wrong. If

(14:20):
I do something wrong, it endsup wrong. And he said, I
feel like I'm just getting punched inthe mouth and punched in the mouth.
And now it's very candid, Yeah, very open, and I mean and
it's so refreshing. You know,we heard Nick Cassianos last week kind of
bear his soul as well. Yeah, And it's really refreshing to hear these
players because they're not hiding in acorner and pretending everything's okay. They are

(14:43):
working their butts off to try andget it back. So last night was
awesome. You know, whether youlove the standing oh or you hate it
or what, it doesn't matter.I didn't hate it. I was just
annoyed by it. If it happenedorganically and naturally, there's a different story
to it when it's being contrived andit's being discussed about for two days going
into the game. That that rightthere, Like, it's it's more genuine

(15:07):
when it happens for the sake ofhappening. The yesterday with him getting to
curtain call, that's natural and heearned that standing ovation. And like,
I'm not sitting here trying to takeaway from what the fans did. And
you know, listen, we're thefans and we have every right to do
whatever we want to do. AndI'm not saying that you have to boo
the crap out of him every singletime he comes up and just continue to
bury him in this slump that he'sin. But moments like yesterday when you

(15:30):
hit that three run shot, thatwas earned. That right there was his
moment so far in in Philly's uniform. Well, I would agree about the
second part, but again, itdoesn't it doesn't much matter whether you thought
it was great or not. Iguess it's my point. You know,
it happened. The only way somethinglike that happens is if it's talked about
in contrived that's the only way thathappens. Because you're talking about trying to

(15:54):
get forty thousand people on the samepage. You know, thirty five thousand
people will show up if if itwasn't talked about on social media and on
all the you know, different newsoutlets. I just felt like we were
like that old guy in American PieToo, where he you know, he's
up on the stage with the withthe trumpet and he's like, you know,
come on, guys, let's supportPete. Like that's that's kind of
the way I felt my favorite partof that movie, Come on, guys,

(16:17):
to show the little guys on thesupport. You know, Like that's
kind of where I was at withit. But like, you know,
two weeks a round, I guess, you know, look again, I
know you're in the clubhouse every day, you're around the team, you're on
the charter flights. Like your opinionsdifferent than mine is from from an outsider
stamp. I just you know,if you don't like it, fine,
Yeah, if you do like it, fine, Did it help? I
have no idea. You know,we'll never really know if it helped.

(16:41):
But but at the end of theday, he did appreciate it. And
I guess at some level, ifa player kind of looks around when things
are going poorly and he feels asthough a city has his back. That
can't be a bad thing. Ican't envision the scenario where that's a negative.
So you know, look, atthe end of the day, he

(17:03):
needs to keep playing better. Heneeds to continue that and and hopefully he
does. And then maybe we'll lookback and and talk about remember the time
that Philadelphia fixed straight Turner by givinghim a standing ovation. Maybe that becomes
a thing. And does Aaron Noladeserve one before we start on Thursday?
And I know that's where everybody's startingto you know, now we gotta do
it for Aaron, and now wegotta do it for Kyle and and no,

(17:26):
I don't think that's necessary and Idon't think we should. And you
know, but that's that's my opinion. The fans want to do that,
go for him. Um, guysare gonna struggle, and it's you know,
if you want to booth them.Okay, I don't know what that
does either. You know, itmakes you feel better, I guess,
but I don't know that it doesany Hearty Bill doesn't hurt anybody, Uh,

(17:48):
I would disagree with that. Ithink it probably hurts a lot of
people. I love. I lovea good hearty Bill. Yeah, yeah,
I probably. I can honestly sayI don't think I've ever booed anyone
in my life. And that's thetruth. Who doesn't deserve to get booed?
Michael Lorenzen Fantastic First Stars as aPhilly transition. Yeah. Absolutely,
trade deadline because I could. Icould have went in and ripped him Aaron
Nola while we're at it, buthey, let's get to something fun here.

(18:11):
In the first segment, trade deadlineacquisition, the big one was Michael
Lorenzen, and I was thinking aboutthis during the course of it on Thursday
afternoon while it was happening. Itwas Cliff Lee esque from two thousand and
nine, just the way he wentout there and dominated, and it was
so needed. Eight innings pitched.I think it was the first time he's
pitched eight innings. This season wasand they needed every bit of it because

(18:33):
there was only two guys that didn'tpitch the night before and Junior Marte and
Sir Anthony Domingus. Domingus came inand got the save. Fantastic job by
Michael Lorenzen his first start in aPhillies uniform. I was about to say
Phillies pinch strips. But actually itwas it was the road read with the
gray pants. Yeah, it wasa job. I mean from a baseball
standpoint, it was about as animportant moment this week that we had,

(18:56):
right, I mean you to yourpoint what you just said. They needed
their starting pitcher that day to godeep into a game because if they didn't,
we were they were in trouble. They there wasn't a whole lot of
options. And Michael Lorenzen comes inand I said to him, you know,
you only get one chance to makea first impression. Nice job,

(19:18):
because that was a pretty darn goodone. Um. What a what a
neat guy to talk to. Whata um you know, loves the game
of baseball, is so excited tobe here and on a contender and excited,
you know, he wants to bea starter. And they're gonna have
to figure out, you know, does Christopher Sanchez slide back to the bullpen
um, because they're not going tostay with this six man rotation through these

(19:40):
it's just through the fourteenth. Theydon't have a day off until the fourteen.
Yeah, and then and then theyhave two days off in a matter
of four days, and that makesit difficult to stick with six. Yeah
at that point. So my betis there's some kind of piggyback situation with
Christopher Sanchez sliding in behind one ofthe guys. Um more than likely Lorenzen,

(20:03):
but but who knows the ranger Suarez. Well, potentially that you got
two lefties, two lefties there.I don't think they would go that route.
Um, but maybe maybe it's Aaronat you know, if if he
can continues to struggle a bit,Um, there's a lot that they can
do. But I think that's probablywhere we're headed because I think they want
to keep lorenz in in that startingrotation for a couple of different reasons.

(20:26):
But if he pitches like that,I mean, hey, you know,
you can't take him out right.I mean, he's he's he's gonna be
one of your horses if you continueto you know, and he's gonna have
games where he doesn't pitch like that. Let's let's be real. Everybody has
their off days exactly, So Hey, don't hang out alone in the main
cave for baseball this season. Tryhanging out at cheerleaders with sexy entertainers four
dollars domestic beers James the specials andawesome game day experiences all season Loan.

(20:49):
That's right. Stop in before, during, or after the game, not
only to see your favorite entertainers, but also your chance to have the best
game day experience at the game dayexperiences at Cheerleaders Gentlemen's Club or champions Play.
Cheerleaders is open daily from noon untiltwo am. Found out the other
day that my mom was listening tome do that read last week and she's
a lot. I was like, hey, whatever, pays the bills right
here and one of two point fiveFox Sports the Gambler bud Light Baseball Brunch,

(21:11):
brought to you by Cheerleaders Gentlemen's Club. On the other side, we're
gonna dive into the daycare because AlecBohm and Bryson Stott have had phenomenal seasons,
and we're gonna dive into Cole Hamil'swho recently retired. The other day
again one or two point five Foxpushing a bill rude right back after this
spreads totals and all the prop that'sin between. It's the Gambler, second

(21:42):
second year, Sunday morning, theDelaware Valley. It is beautiful here as
me far sport. It is.It's August, right, it is,
but it's yeah, it's great notto sweat by just sitting there. It
is. I mean, it's gonnabe a perfect day for a baseball today.
Yeah. I'll take comfortability over anything. What's that word? Comfortability?

(22:04):
Is that a word? Did it? Is? It is? Now?
It's poetic license. We're on theair. You have a microphone. You
can say what you want. Yeah, well not everything, but hey,

(22:48):
to their website. We hate DirtyWindows dot com. That's we hate dirty
Windows dot com. All right, murf, So let's continue talking a little
bit about the Phillies here before wedive into other things around the league,
especially some things particularly last night's brawlin Cleveland, which I enjoyed vehemently.
It was fantastic. But what elsecould be said about the two members two

(23:11):
of the members of the Phillies daycareso far this season, because where would
this team be without their contributions BrysonStott and Alc Boom. They're now fourth
and fifth in the National League andbatting average respectively. Stots one hundred and
twenty four hits are good for eighthin the National League and Alec Boom leads
the Phillies and RBI who would havehad that prop bet at the beginning of

(23:33):
the season. Fantastic job by bothof these kids and their continued development as
they become full blown, you know, full time major league baseball players and
Alc BOM's defense. Bryson Stott mightbe up for the Gold glob at second
and Alboom playing both sides of thediamond. After last year's fiasco in the
first couple weeks of the season.Awesome stuff, you know, and and
it just goes to show you howhard these guys have worked to get to

(23:59):
where they are because it doesn't justhappen obviously, you know, they put
in a ton of time Alec, especially when you talk about the defense,
how hard he he has worked overthe last year and a half. But
you're right, where would this teambe without them? I think you can
add Brandon Marsh in there as wellin terms of young guys that really have
stepped up this season. Only playeron the team that hasn't an OPS it's
above eight hundred. There you go, Brandon Marsh. Yeah. So you're

(24:21):
talking about three young players that havereally kind of stepped up and taken that
next step in their development in theircareer. And if it weren't for them,
Yeah, the Phillies would be introuble right now. They have done
just an outstanding job. I hadAlec on the pregame show down in Miami,
and we talked about a lot ofdifferent things, but but I think

(24:42):
my favorite answer of his is Iasked him, I said, look,
at the end of last year,we started to see your personality kind of
shine through. And then I said, and then in the postseason, you
know, it just exploded onto thescene. He got this big smile on
his face because you know, baseball'stough. It's it is, it's a

(25:03):
grind, it's one sixty two. These guys come to the ballpark early every
day, they leave late. Theywork hard, and when when alec and
and and the others um, they'renot always able to kind of just you
know, let their hair down andhave some fun. But literally but literally
yeah. But we talked about thepostseason. He said, you know,
at that point, it felt likethe hard work was done and we were

(25:27):
able to you know, he said, we were playing well. Um as
a team, we had you know, really gelled together and we were just
having fun. And I think thatwas really obvious. But I think that
postseason experience for these young guys allowedthem to come back. And I think
I think Bryson said it, saidit to me a couple of weeks ago.

(25:48):
You know, you come back andand everything just seems to be as
not as big the second time around, because you've experienced this this level of
pressure and postseason and now you're cominginto a regular season game in June and
it's like, all right, Igot this and I think that's what we're
seeing right now, and it's beengreat. Think about the Phillies and their

(26:11):
top picks over the last couple ofyears. The way great teams stay great
is through the draft and through theInternational draft and getting getting these young guys.
It's not through free agency. Andthe Phillies will always be players with
the big time you know guys infree agency, but if you can't bring
in young players and develop young players, you're gonna struggle. And you think

(26:32):
about Alec Bohm, Bryson Stott, and now you look, you know Andrew
Painter, nick Abel nick Abel,Griff McGarry who just moved up to Triple
A this this week, Justin Crawford, who's right getting Grand Slam last night.
And then the kid that just justdrafted, has he gotten out yet,
Mike, And that's the thing, and it's like, wow, we

(26:53):
have And you know, when theseguys get drafted, you don't know a
whole lot about them, You don'tknow when they'll be here. But then
all you have to do is lookat Alcaholm and Bryson Stott and say man
in two or three years, someof these other guys are gonna be here,
and if they have the kind ofimpact that that Bryson and Alec have
had, this team is going tocontinue to be really it sustains and that's

(27:17):
why player Development and Preston Mattingly andhis group, Brian Barber and the and
the group that does the draft forthe Phillies. That's why they're so important.
We don't talk about him enough, but the job they've done over the
last couple of years, it's justbeen remarkable and we're seeing that with these
young guys. Uh slashes broke thenews, Brandon marsh to the I l
and expect them back in two tothree weeks. Okay, well, is

(27:38):
it just the contusion or was thereanything. I think it was Taryn Hatcher
that broke it, so I canlook that up real quick. I think
it was just the contusion, though, I mean, he slammed Robtops have
just spoke to the media at eleventhirty, so that's that's where that's coming
from. Um okay, just saysMr r x rates. There's no structural

(28:00):
Okay, well that's that's the importantthing. So it's just a pain tolerance
at that point, do we havea move that they made? Is there
anybody that's coming up and taking takinghis place in the rouster that I haven't
seen anything yet? Okay? Allright, So we got the update that
I was looking for on Brandon Marstoday, and just real quick before we
dive into other things. Any anynew news on Jose Alvarado. I know

(28:22):
I ask every single week, butI mean, like god, that back
into the bullpen is gonna be soformidable once they get him back and involved.
Yeah, So the latest on Josethrew a bullpen on Friday, Uh
said, he said on Saturday hefelt great. Uh, He's going to
throw against live hitters tomorrow. Tomorrow'sMonday, right, so tomorrow, Um,
whether he doing our show on Sundays, yes, yes, I should

(28:44):
know that. Whether he's throwing herein Philly or at a minor league park,
they weren't sure, but he isgoing to face live hitters tomorrow.
And you know, if he's followingthe same progression as Sir Anthony Dominguez did,
which I would imagine, he isprobably live hitters twice then off to
a rehab start. So he's gettingcloser, right, you know, Um,
probably probably the third week of August. Maybe, you know, as

(29:06):
long as everything goes well, we'llsee Jose back. And while we were
talking about the Phillies, you know, Phillies farmhands, you know, coming
up here and making contributions, andthe guys that were looking at down,
you know, down the line inthe future, they are going to come
up and be Philadelphia Phillies. Let'slook at one from the past. Uh,
you know, big news. Thelast member of the two thousand and
eight Philadelphia Phillies, the World Serieschampions, Cole Hamils, decided to retire

(29:26):
the other day and uh, youknow the two thousand and eight NLCS and
World Series MVP. Uh finishes withone hundred and sixty three wins, one
hundred and twenty two losses at threepoint four to three e array, seventeen
complete games, seven shoutouts, twothousand and six hundred and ninety eight innings,
two thousand, five hundred and sixtystrikeouts in fifteen years, parts of
ten being in South Philadelphia with yourPhiladelphia Phillies. Some of your favorite moments

(29:48):
in Cole's career, Uh, you'vepretty much covered all of it, so
saying things that stand out to youfor me, it's easy. Um.
One of my favorite moments of mytime with the Phillies was at Wrigley when
he threw the no hitter. Wewere both there, Yeah and we and
you knew the storyline more than likelygoing to be his last game. Uh
and uh. I did the postgameinterview with him down on the field.

(30:11):
Uh and it was really one ofone of the best interviews that I ever
did with Cole. It was sowe both got daubsed with the with the
gatorade. That feel good. That'sa little sticky. Can you get the
gatorade? The water feels good sometimes, but um, but that's my favorite
memory of Cole Hammil's for me personallyobviously the way he pitched in a eight

(30:36):
and you know, the National LeagueChampionship Series MVP, the World Series MVP.
UM. You know, he wassuch a huge part of why the
Phils finally got that World Championship aftertwenty eight years of waiting. So I
have very fond memories of Cole.Um. He's a nice guy. Was
was always very pleasant and always accommodatingfor us as well. So you know,

(30:57):
I had a feeling he was goingto retire when I read that he
was at Uncle Bill's pancake house downin the Stone Harbor or in Seeisle the
other day or other, and Isaid, oh, okay, I guess
that means he's not pitching anymore.Um but congratulations. Damn hard to believe
that he's the last guy. Twothousand and eight just seems like yesterday to

(31:17):
me. I don't know about you, UM line has changed in the last
fifteen years from me, Yeah,I guess you know you're yeah, you're
at I was twenty two. Iwas a couple of years younger than Cole.
The only thing that's changed for meis my pants size. That's that's
probably about hit my cholesterol maybe,um but uh yeah, I don't know.
It just it seems like a blinkof an eye and he's gone,

(31:38):
and he's retired, and that teamis is now officially retired. But you
know, good for him. Itwas good to see. And uh,
I would imagine we'll see Cole Hamil'sback here at Citizens Bank very soon.
I would think, Yeah, butwhat a great guy and a humanitarian on
top of everything. You know, great ballplayer and you know you always look
back on the on that run andhe's one of the court, like the

(32:00):
core members of that team. Imean, like I get you could say
core four, you know with himUtlely, Roland's Howard, but you know
Chu is right. Yeah, butbut I mean, like you know,
Cole Hamills was was so vital andhe was if you look at that starting
pitching step and oh eight and yousit there and you go, how the
hell did they win the World Serieswith the with that group of guys,
um, you know, but butthey did pretty good. Brad Lidge was

(32:22):
really good that season. But youknow, you look back on that run
and it was so so special forall of us. You know that those
five years and the years that werebefore that as well, getting to that
point, getting into the playoffs forthe first time and you know, fourteen
years and just a special run forsure. But you know what was special
was what happened in Major League Baseballlast night, uh fight night in Cleveland.

(32:42):
It was phenomenal. The knockout punchheard round the world as Jose Ramirez
knocked out Tim Anderson And like Idon't even think Jose knew at the time
that he knocked them out. Um, well, he just took a wild
Yeah, I mean, his headYeah, his head was like down.
And the best part about it though, was how like, you know,
he's getting up, he slides inthe second and he's he's getting up and

(33:07):
you know, to get in TimAnderson's face and the second base umpire is
between the two of them and it'sjust like all right, tap gloves and
then he backs out. Yeah, but it was just it was so awesome
and like you know, obviously itwent viral and all some of the best
things in the world like this thatgo viral on Twitter. It's just great.
And then when we were talking aboutthe broadcaster, yea on the Indians,

(33:28):
I don't think it's as as muchof a story, as much of
a fun thing to talk about ifif not for Tom Hamilton, the Cleveland
Indians um play by play guy, because he switched from baseball to boxing in
a heartbeat. And I mean,the guy's a Hall of Famer broadcaster.
But the way he called the fightwas was epic. I mean, he

(33:52):
channeled his inner Howard Cosell and andit was it was really cool to listen
to him. He haven't haven't listenedto it. To me, that was
the best part the fight itself.I mean, you don't often see punches
thrown and punches connected, and sothat's kind of what made it different than
the normal bench clearing kind of thing. But I think Hamilton's call was,
uh, it was pretty awesome too, Sack, you're gonna change your oultra

(34:15):
now for baseball brunch, and like, yeah, he is at it.
Yeah, listen, this is ayou know, precursor for can you believe
it? In our final segment? But can you believe the fact that Elvis
Andrews was involved in that altercation andthe roughnen Ordor and uh and Jose Bautista.

(34:35):
He was on the field right nextto both the probably the best,
the best two on field fights ofmaybe the last twenty years. Yeah,
I mean yeah, again, youdon't see it very often. You know,
you see the anger, uh,the team's coming together, some pushing
and shoving, but when they startto swing, uh, it gets real
real quickly. So yeah, itwas it was I don't know, I

(34:57):
don't know if I want to usethe word fun, but it was entertaining,
that's for sure, and no doubtabout it for sure. Yeah.
And then um, also I teasedit earlier, but ballpark number twenty one
active was crossed off the list.Uh, got got to spend you know,
Friday night, real quick, twentyfour hours in Minnesota. Beautiful city,
a lot of fun. Target Fieldvery unique in its layout. Um

(35:19):
you know, like those are sohigh in particularly like right field. Um
you know, like the man, like the tile walls and the tile layout
that they have. It's completely differentthan any other ballpark that I've been in.
And uh, you know, sittingdown third baseline behind the Diamondbacks dugout,
what a good time, A lotof fun. It's definitely a top
ten And I think you had previouslysaid, you know when we did like

(35:40):
our top ten, But I meanfor me, like on the layout scale
right now, because obviously I wantto get to like San France and San
Diego and Seattle and those other ones. But man, just a lot of
fun, great time. You know. It's just a beautiful, clean city,
very quiet, not a lot ofpeople walking around. No, not
intown area, you know, whenit's not nine to five kind of thing.

(36:01):
Yeah, it is a beautiful city. Now. So I've experienced Minnesota
two different ways. And Minnesota inthe summer, well Minnesota, no,
No, in the summer, goingto target Field, spending a couple of
days there, you know, withthe Phillies. Beautiful ballpark, as you
said, really great city, walkingaround, very walkable, that kind of
thing. I've also covered the Eaglesin Minnesota in a couple of playoff games.

(36:27):
Yeah, I have never ever beencolder than I was in Minnesota,
and and all I had to dowas walk from our car into the the
h it was it maybe the Metrodome, So it was about maybe I don't
know, quarter a mile walk right, not terrible, but I had sued

(36:50):
on and dress shoes and by thetime I got to I think it was
something like fourteen or fifteen below andthere were people tailgating out, just tailgate
Minnesota's and I am almost in tearstrying to walk and get inside because my
feet were frozen. And that wasmiserable ball. And then you walk inside

(37:15):
it's all nice and toses. Youdon't see a city like that that has
a lot of those like indoor walkwaysthat connect the building need them. Yeah,
maybe it's insane. And then whenwe were in the Super Bowl five
years ago, they were talking aboutlike the Mall of America, like everything
is like underground walkways because it's justit's so unbearably cold when you're outside.
Again, I've never been colder. That's the coldest I've ever been and I

(37:35):
was outside for ten minutes and I'llnever forget it. So Yes, Minnesota
in the summer, Sign me upMinnesota in the winter. I'm done,
been there, done that, don'tneed to do it again. Hey guys,
make sure you guys travel with usfor the Green Legion this season.

All right, so let's go ahead. Let's give away some tickets here
for the September eighth game. It'sa Friday night, seven oh five.
Gotta be down there. Kids areback to school, but it's a Friday
night, so you're gonna have alittle bit of fun with it, that's
right. So Murk, can methe rest of your top five? All
right? So these are movies basedon a true story, true story,

(41:00):
and uh, what we think arethe best. I already told you,
I already gave you a link inbecause that was an awesome movie, uh
that I think everyone should see.Um, a couple of lighter ones I
didn't. I always knew the musicof Queen, but I never really knew
the story behind Freddie Murcury and BohemianRhapsody. I thought did an outstanding job
kind of telling his life story. That was fascinating. And uh, and

(41:23):
the guy that played him, I'mgonna not gonna know his name, but
he's but he was he was amazingplaying Freddie Murcury. That that guy over
there actor fella. Um, butanyway, really good movie, So we'll
put that one on the list. And in the same vein walk the Line,
which is the Johnny Cash story.Again knew Johnny's music, never knew

(41:45):
a ton about his life. Anothergreat performance by Um the June and guy
that the other guy, the otherguys River Phoenix, Joaquin Phoenix, m
F Johnny Cash and that so I'mputting that on the list. All right,
Um Shouldner's list, you know, talk about an important movie and and

(42:08):
if if you don't, if youhaven't seen it, it's worth watching just
for historical reasons and purposes. Butan amazing job that they did with that
movie as well, telling that incrediblestory. And then this one's a little
off the beaten path but Hidden Figures. I don't know if you remember that
movie. It was came out maybefive years ago, and it was the

(42:28):
story of three African American women whoworked for NASA and were instrumental in the
space program, but their story wasnever told until now. And and after
watching that movie, I remember remarkingthat every school in America should show this
movie to their to their students becauseit had it touched all the bases and

(42:49):
it was such an important time inour country's history and finally getting to hear
the story of the people that youdon't hear about. Um it was behind
the scenes, yeah, but theywere. They were instrumental in making it
all happen. Brilliant mathematician minds, these women, and um, you know
for them at that time. Obviouslya struggle female African American in the world

(43:15):
of NASA and space. How hardthey had to fight just to get in
the room. And fascinating stories. So hidden figures is I'll add that one
to the list. Yeah, it'sgood, all right. So speaking of
a list, we have Miracle, good American gangster. All right, Titanic
was already we kind of said thatalready at the beginning. And you're not
voting for it anyway. Uh fortytwo okay, yeah, all right,

(43:38):
Rudy yeah, John Q, alright, The blind Side, The Pursuit of
Happiness. We are Marshal Rookie,Okay, a lot of sports movies,
which makes sense. We're we're doinga small Remember the Titans. It would
have had my vote, Yeah,I remember the Titans would have been a
good one too. Um well,I actually no, I'm sorry, I

(44:00):
guess I ran over remember the timeyou did say that. Yeah, I
thought you did. Actually, no, I skipped over somebody else that was
on here because we already talked aboutat the beginning. Okay, God give
me the first two or three again, real quick, top first two or
three, Miracle, American Gangster, and forty two forty two. Yeah,
that's what I was trying to think. Um, from that list, you
don't look like a big rudy guy. No. I like the movie Rudy,

(44:21):
but I'm not voting for that. There's so many more important movies like
forty two that that are gonna getLike I'm going forty two. I'm gonna
go remember the Titans. Okay, all right, So I then can't argue
that slash tiebreaker since this we don'thave Kevin stocker this week, only because
Denzel Wassonten's my favorite aspect. That'sa great movie. Yeah, you can't

(44:43):
go wrong either way. You eversee the movie lean on Me? By
the way, No, um,that's another one. Put that on your
list, lean on Me. Nota sports movie, but that that would
have been a good one for mylist too. Sounds great, all right,
So congratulations David Loebe for winning thetickets. I will get them over
to you. Yeah he's he's onetickets off me before. But congratulations day.
All right, so murf picks forthis week? Right favorite underdog over

(45:05):
under We both went want in twolast week? All right? So you
you you had the Marlins over theTigers, and I hit my over under
um for the Yankees oils. Ithink I had it by a third inning
two because Luis Savarino socks. Weboth thought we were going on three,
but but then we both rallied forthe one game. There's nothing that's better
on a Sunday than getting text messagesfrom Mirth that's in a panic over his

(45:27):
his picks. No, not inapparent. I don't never get anything good.
But we're just doing good. Idon't hear anything from you. Yeah
yeah, no, but you're notdoing good this season. You're twenty two
and twenty three with twenty eight anda half points. I'm twenty six and
nineteen with thirty two points. I'mgonna beat you, and that's just the
way it's gonna work. Okay,So why don't you lead off for me?
Partner, give me give me oneof your picks here? All right?

(45:47):
A right, we'll give you myfavorite first. Um, Cleveland.
The Guardians are minus one forty fiveover those slugging White Socks, and Um,
I think Cleveland's just a better team. That seems like a kind of
a low line for me. Oneforty five. I don't know if that
is or not, but anyway,I think Cleveland kind of rolls in this
game, beats the White Sox pitchingmatchups, kind of like. So give

(46:10):
me Cleveland as the favorite today.I was surprised you didn't do this because
I had to do it. Andthe fact the Orioles are minus one ninety
two and they're playing the Mets inBaltimore with a chance to sweep. I
saw Kyle Bradish versus Jose Cantana.I'm taking Orioles for the sweep. That's
my favorite to sweek. Okay, but you watch that, that's the game
that it's gonna come back and biteyou. Right. We'll see, we'll
see. I might lose real moneyon that game today. Okay, we'll

(46:31):
see. All right, my underdogagain. Weird line and these bite me
all the time, so I'm probablydoing the wrong thing. Yeah. A
couple of weeks ago, you gotyou got your dog. All right.
Astros are underdogs to the Yankees today. The Yankees have won two of three
in this four game series they're playing, and so winning three of yesterday,

(46:52):
So winning three or four over Houston, I thinks a lot to ask for
the I know they're playing a littlebit better, but the Stros are plus
one oh six, So I'm takingthem as my honor dog. Okay,
all right, So I'm gonna stickwith the American League West on my end,
I just find it hard to believe. And it's probably one of those
The Cubs actually bit me last weekbecause of that against the Cardinals, and
I was like, well, itwas so hot, why are there an

(47:13):
underdog? I'm going back to thewell again this week. Mariners plus one
ten at the Angels. They're eightand two in their last ten. They've
won four in a row. TheAngels have lost five in a row.
Have him one since the trade deadline, and you're now falling out of the
Wild Cards. There's games back.Uh you know with that, since they
didn't Dumpotani, I'm taking the Marinersa plus one ten today. I'm just
gonna take a swing on that, for sure. I'm over under for you,

(47:35):
all right. Diamondbacks and Twins.Over under is eight and a half.
I'm going with the under, whichI almost never do, but I'm
going under under eight and a half. Yeah, Zach Gallan's on the hill
for the Diamondbacks and Dallas guys.I didn't even know he was fitted to
Twin Here's what I think. Well, he just got there. Yeah he's
got no stats, but I didn'teven know he's signed with them. Yeah,

(47:55):
so I think Zach Gallan shuts themdown and gives up eight and I
get the under. That's that's howI think it's gonna play out. So
I'm taking under eight. Diamondbacks havelost the first two games of that series,
and they got smoke last night andJoe More going into the Twins Hall
of Fame. So yeah, diamondBacks, a dude, Gallan gets them
off the sniper under eight and ahalf. I'm going under eight and a

(48:17):
half as well. I'm going BravesCubs, uh, Charlie Morton and Justin
Steele. So it's a good pitchingmatchup there. They went over, they
had fourteen runs and the Braves. It was funny because Chad when we were
in Minnesota, he's like he's manHe's like, I really like the over
eight and a half in this inthis game, and they wound up.
The Braves put up eight runs throughfive. They want eight nothing, so

(48:38):
they hit the under by a halfa run. The other night, Can
you believe it? I guess usof what a sex to five? And

(49:01):
the wild things Rbi tan you believeit? Danga belamed two things we found
interesting from this past week in MajorLeague Baseball. Mauric, give me your
first one, buddy. All right, Well, the first one happened right
here in Philadelphia and the guy isstill here. Bobby Wood Junior, really
good young talent for Kansas City. He's been hot over the last week he

(49:23):
has he has and I guess itwas Game one right Friday night he hit
the home run. It was histwentieth home run of the season. He
already had thirty stolen bases or thirdthirty plus stolen bases. He becomes the
first player in Major League Baseball historyto have twenty home runs and thirty or
more steals. Twenty or more homeruns, thirty or more steals in his

(49:44):
first two seasons. First time it'sever happened. It's hard to believe,
right, Yeah, good ball playertoo. I'm gonna stick on another pretty
good ball player in that same veinCorbyn. Carroll reached twenty five home runs
and thirty five stolen bases in hisfirst one hundred and thirty four career games,
the second fewest needed by any playerto debuts since nineteen hundred. You
had a guy Mike Trout pretty goodneeded one hundred and twenty eight games.

(50:06):
Really, yeah, all right, that's good stuff, all right? Uh?
And then, um, this one'scoming from Sarah Lang's highest batting average
in a four plus game series sincenineteen hundred, you needed to have at
least fifteen plate appearances. Back intwenty twenty, Adalberto Mondescy batted eight fifty
seven versus Detroit in a four gameseries. But Ryan Nowcastle at Toronto this

(50:30):
week eight forty six wow versus theBlue Jays. Yeah, I mean,
my goodness. And then, uh, couple others you'll remember back in nineteen
twenty seven, Joe Harris did it. I'm right there, yeah, yeah,
he batted eight hundred and uh ohshulis Joe Jackson by the way,
Yeah, that's that's definitely a nsixteen at Detroit he batted eight hundred two,
but eight forty six. Have yourselfa week. See. I never,

(50:52):
I never can say that I rootfor somebody to lose a no hitter
until the other night because I can'tstand from Brivaldez. I still to this
day think he cheated it in theWorld Series. Every time he went to
his hair. I will root againstthis guy for the rest of his career.
But he did throw the third nohitter of the season the other night,

(51:12):
so he hadn't He only used ninetythree pitches, third fewest and a
no hitter since pitch counts, hecan't start to be tracked in nineteen eighty
eight, behind only the late DarylKyle who did it on September eighth,
nineteen ninety three through eighty three pitches, and then David Cone in his perfect
game down through eighty eight pitches whenJuly eighth. Yeah right now, the
best, the best perfect game outof all of them was David Wells,

(51:35):
who didn't hung over. Yeah.Well that's you know, we do some
of our best work about it,all right. So take a look at
the week ahead for our Philadelphia Phillies. We had today's rubber match, which
I feel like the last five weekshas been rubber match after rubber match with
US, which is just pretty muchthe microcosm of our first you know,
two and a half to three quartersseasons together. So we had that going

(51:58):
for US today, four against theNationals to teen. You this tank game
homestanding in the Minnesota Twins lead theAmerican cent in the American League Central and
they come into town next week.Yep, a lot of wins here on
the table. The Peas gotta starttaking advantage of it. And can we
actually start treating these teams, thesebottom feeders. Can we actually just start
treating them like punching bags for onceinstead of playing these won two run games.

(52:19):
It's not for me, It's notthe way it works. You know,
these are these are major league ballclubs, and you got major league
players on the other side. Butthe Braves do it. Why can't we
We had this conversation already. TheBraves this year are different. I'm just
they are just they're a step above. I don't need to be in heart
attack hotel for the next two months, three months, hopefully, just win,
just win. But you're right, you know, as the great Larry

(52:42):
Anderson always says, you know, win the series. You don't have to
win all three, just win twoof the three, especially against a team
like the Kansas City Royals, whoare not one of baseball's best teams.
So go out there and win today. They you know, again, we
do say it every Sunday. Theygot to win to day. They didn't
last week in Pittsburgh, and thatreally hurt. I think they learned their
lesson a little bit. Um,a little bit of a wake up call.

(53:06):
I heard a couple of guys saythat, So whin today, take
this series from the Royals and thenlook ahead to the Washington Nationals, who
you've had really good success over overthe last couple of years. So,
um, you know, playing hereat home has been an advantage for the
Phillies. I think they're nine gamesover five hundred at home or eight games
or something. Yeah, it's rightright around there. Um, they got

(53:27):
to keep that going. You needto play well at home real quick.
Weston Wilson, he's coming up takingplace for Brandon Mars. What can you
say? And I know I rememberbecause he got a lot of playing time
in spring training while the guys wereat the WBC. He did, Um,
what kind of season is he having. You know, I haven't checked
his numbers in a couple of weeks, but I remember, you know,
today before the previou will indeed, two or three weeks ago doing the minor

(53:50):
league report, he popped up asone of the guys that was just really
swinging the bat well and I'm prettysure. I mean, I know he's
a good defender out there in theautum field. He's kind of a big,
wiry guy, and uh, youknow, he'll get an opportunity.
It's it's an interesting call up.I think Christian Pace, you know,
is getting close and we're gonna seehim come come back pretty soon as well.

(54:13):
But in the meantime, Weston Wilson'sgonna get his opportunity. You know,
I love watching these young guys comeup. We saw Johann Rojas do
it two weeks ago. I'm excitedwe're gonna see more of him the next
two or three and and and hehasn't he hasn't missed a beat. The
moment doesn't seem too big for him. I hope the same for Weston Wilson.
It'll be fun to watch. Soundsgreat, Murph. I appreciate you
as always partner and sitting alongside us. Today our producer Kyle slashed the gobbler,

(54:35):
the magic man, not a maker, and back on the board in
studio is the one the hardest making, the hardest working man in show business,
John Jansen, I'm Chris Sacker,Green Lee Geranio. Like a three
one pitch to Ryan Howard, weare out of here. Philly's handled your
business. Let's score some runs today. Let's make this nice and easy and
stay away from heart Attack hotel foronce.
