In this episode, Talib Jasir returns to the mic with grounded clarity, unpacking the lifelong work of choosing yourself. Through raw reflections from therapy, hard lessons in presence, and the quiet strength of emotional accountability, Talib speaks on the necessity of defining your standards, staying rooted in self-trust, and refusing to outsource your vision.

Ayo! This episode is on you, on me. On us. They say the greatest constant in life is change. But after living this life for several years, I discovered that wasn't true. What I found is that the greatest constant in life is you—me, myself, and I. Because I'm here. You're here. We are here through all the changes. In fact, for most of us, we are the source of many of the changes that occur in our lives.

(01:00):
This world works very deliberately to externalize most aspects of our life. We're almost always looking outside of ourselves for something—help, hope, opportunity, money, spirituality, entertainment—whatever it is. We're consistently looking outside of ourselves for that which we believe ourselves to be in deficit or void of.

(02:00):
Imagine when my awareness took over and I realized the only constant truly in my lifetime is gonna be me. So the goal is to build a foundation on which we can stand throughout the changes—shifts in mindset, awareness, relationships, financial stability or instability, fear, courage.

(03:00):
It might come as a surprise to some people who know me in real life that I used to have extreme anger issues. And when I say extreme, I mean there’s probably only one or two houses I’ve lived in where there wasn’t a hole punched in the wall. I'm grateful for growth, self-awareness, maturity, and healing.

(04:00):
In my late twenties, I ended up going to a therapist in New York City. I probably had a recent outburst—something that made me feel ashamed of the anger that would rise up in me and come out of me. I talked to this therapist about it. He really wanted to deal with my anger, but I had other things I wanted to talk about.

(05:00):
That pissed me off and made me angry. Before I left, he gave me a book titled *Control Your Anger or Your Anger Will Control You*. I flipped through a few pages, but it wasn’t written with my life experience in mind. I realized that the only real person who could change who I am was me.

(06:00):
You can read all the books and see all the therapists, but in the end, the only person who can stand there and decide not to punch a wall is you. That was a big “aha” moment. Once I took ownership, I had agency. You can’t do anything about what you didn’t know before, but once you know, you can change.
