SPEAKER_00 (00:03):
Hey y'all, can you believe this?
Hear what I'm saying, it'sofficially two years old.
I just need a second to let thatsink in because whoo! Two years
ago, I hit record with nothingbut a mic, a vision, and a whole
lot of nerves.
And today, we're sitting prettyin the top 5% of podcasts on
listen notes.
We've gone international.

(00:25):
And your girl even brought homethe Women Who Podcast Award for
Reppin the Southwest Region.
So somebody cue the confetti.
Yay! But listen, this isn't justmy win.
This is our win.
The community, theseconversations, the laughs, the
growths.
Y'all made this possible.
So today's episode, we'recelebrating how it started, how

(00:48):
it's going, and where we'reheaded next.
Let's get into it.
When I started this podcast, Iwanted a safe space, not just
for me, but for us.
A space where we could talkabout hair, yes, but also about
life, identity, growth, andeverything that shapes who we
are.
I'll be honest, my first episodeand a few more I can name, it

(01:09):
was rough.
I was overthinking everything,my voice, the sound quality,
wondering if anybody would evencare about what I had to say.
But I kept reminding myself, start scared, start messy, just
start.
And I did.
I would also like to thank Bryceand Record ATX for making the
process less stressful and moresmoother.

(01:29):
Looking back, I'm so glad I tookthe leap because that little mic
turned into a platform that'snow reaching people around the
world.
Like y'all are literallylistening in different
countries.
That's wild.
So here we are, two years later, sitting at the grown folks'
table, international audience, top 5% on listen notes, and

(01:50):
award winning.
That's not small, that's notlight.
That's proof that when you stayconsistent, when you stay true
to your voice, people reallyfeel that.
This podcast has taught me somuch, not just about the
industry, but about myself.
I've learned how to show up evenon the days I didn't feel like
it, or even on the days thatwere completely unorthodox,

(02:11):
okay?
I've learned that my voicematters, and I've learned that
the conversations we have hereare sparking change out there.
One of my favorite moments overthe past two years, getting that
message from a listener who saidone of my episodes helped her
see her curls differently.
Like she stopped hiding them andactually wore her natural hair

(02:32):
to work for the first time.
Y'all, that's why I do this.
That's why I show up on thispodcast, on this platform, every
chance and opportunity I can.
Now I can't talk about thisjourney without talking about
you.
The DMs, the reviews, theshares.
Every time y'all repost apodcast, every time you send me
a message saying an episodespoke to you.

(02:55):
It reminds me why I keep showingup.
This community is full ofthinkers, doers, and change
makers, and I'm honored that youchose to spend your time here
with me.
So what's next for Hair What I'mSaying?
Oh baby, we are just gettingstarted.
We've got more deep diveconversations coming and more
motivational real talk.

(03:16):
Who knows?
I might host a Hair What I'mSaying first annual event.
If you have topics you want meto cover or guests you love to
hear from, slide into my DMs orsend me an email.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
