Welcome back to another episode of Ham Radio, a Stranger Things
(01:31):
podcast. Today I will be concluding my
discussion on the symbolism of rabbits and rainbows by talking
about the rainbow, which has been prevalent in all Four
Seasons of Stranger Things and Ibelieve will be even more so in
Stranger Things season 5. So just some facts about rainbow
(01:51):
itself. So, according to
rainbowsymphonyrainbowsymphony.com,rainbows are among the most
magical and fascinating phenomenon that occurs in
nature. No matter your age, it's hard to
look at a rainbow and not feel that sense of awe and wonder
that you only get when you get to witness something truly
(02:14):
special. Rainbows have been considered
good omens for thousands of years, and while there's nothing
wrong with hoping for a little luck at the sight of a rainbow,
there's some hard rainbow science that's worth
investigating too. And here's some some rainbow
facts that rainbowsymphony.com lists.
(02:34):
There are 8 of them. So #1 fact number one, you can
never get to the end of a rainbow.
If you're the type who goes hunting for a pot of gold every
time you see a rainbow, we can save you some trouble.
You can never actually get to the end of a rainbow because a
rainbow is based on the orientation of the observer, you
(02:55):
and the light source, the sun. When you move, the rainbow will
move too. Fact #2 You can see a circular
rainbow from the sky while you're on the ground.
You can only observe the classicsemicircular rainbow, hence the
word bow. However, when you're flying in
an airplane and looking down below, you can actually see a
(03:16):
rainbow as a complete circle, ifthe weather circumstances are
just right, of course. Fact #3 you are less likely to
see a rainbow in the winter. But why?
Because of the snow, a rainbow is the result of light passing
through a spectrum, in most cases a collection of raindrops,
and therefore having that light broken up and refractured into
(03:36):
individual colors. In the winter months, however,
temperatures in the upper atmosphere dropped freezing,
causing the rainbows to freeze into snow.
This blocks the light from passing through the drop or the
snowflake, and prevents the appearance of a rainbow.
A double rainbow appears when light is reflecting twice in a
(03:57):
raindrop. Have you ever called a double
rainbow? A double rainbow occurs when the
light is reflected twice in the raindrop, and thus you can see
two distinct reflections that are coming from two different
angles. Next time you happen to see this
super cool occurrence for yourself, take note of this fact
about double rainbows. The secondary rainbow, which
will be a little bit lighter, which will be a little bit
(04:19):
higher and fainter in color thanthe primary rainbow, will
actually have its colors reversed.
Instead of the standard ROI G biv for red, orange, yellow,
green, blue, indigo, and Violet, you'll see the colors as Viv G
Your fact #5 Earth is the only planet in the solar system with
(04:40):
rainbows. Sure, Jupiter has constant
hurricanes of gas, and Mars may even have some frozen water, but
Earth is the only planet in our solar system capable of creating
rainbows, so far as we know. That's because Earth is the only
planet with consistent liquid precipitation and direct
sunlight. On the Saturn moon of Titan,
(05:00):
scientists believe there may be liquid methane rainstorms, but
the atmosphere is so hazy that it's unlikely enough sunlight
passes through the methane dropsto create a rainbow.
Another fun fact, on the surfaceof Saturn itself, about 1000
tons of diamonds rain from the sky every year.
Fact #6 The Greeks and the Romans believed Romans.
(05:24):
The Greeks and the Romans believed rainbows to be a path
from the gods. In ancient times, the Greek
goddess Iris Orcas to the Romanswas personified by the rainbow,
with many works of art actually depicting her taking form taking
the form of a rainbow. According to Greek mythology,
Iris, who is the female counterpart to the Messenger
(05:45):
guard to the Messenger God Hermes, would use her pitcher to
scoop up water and bring it intothe clouds in order to form a
rainbow. Her rainbow then became a bridge
between Mount Olympus, where thegods and goddesses lived, and
the earth. Of course, in the centuries
since, rainbow science has evolved.
We know a rainbow isn't actuallya bridge between heaven and
(06:07):
earth, but it sure makes for a great story.
Fact #7 The longest observed rainbow lasted for nearly nine
hours. The average rainbow is
observable is observable for less than an hour, but in 2017,
students and professors of the Chinese Culture University,
located high in the mountains ofTaipei, Taiwan, observed a
(06:30):
rainbow for 8 hours and 58 minutes from 6:57 AM till 3:55
PM. Prior to this event, the longest
lasting rainbow was seen over Sheffield, England in 1994.
That rainbow is documented by the Guinness Book of World
Records. Lasted from about 9:00 AM to
3:00 PM. Fact #8 No two people can see
(06:52):
the exact same rainbow. If you and a friend are standing
next to each other looking at a rainbow, you're still not seeing
the exact same rainbow. That's because a rainbow has not
physical presence. A rainbow is a purely optical
phenomenon in its appearance, its precise shape, arc and the
width of its colored bands will be slightly different according
(07:15):
to the eye of the beholder. That means that one more amazing
fact about rainbows we could addto the list every rainbow's
unique to you and then from eartheclipse.com and rainbow is
a very simple is a very simple scientific phenomenon of bending
or refraction of light that creates an amazing spectrum of
(07:36):
colors while passing through water droplets.
How rainbow actually formed was unknown until the 17th century
when Sir Isaac Newton discoveredthe seven Spectra of light.
When this gorgeous arc of seven colors, Violet, indigo,
blue-green, yellow, orange, red appears in the sky, it brings a
smile on the face of everyone. And here are some just some more
(07:56):
facts on the rainbow for you. A multi colored arc that we see
in the sky is a rainbow. It is not an object but an
optical phenomenon. You cannot touch it or feel it
as it has no physical existence. It is made-up of light that
reflects and bends. You can never reach at the end
of a rainbow, as it moves along with the view and does not have
a static or stationary position in the sky.
(08:21):
The word rainbow is derived fromthe Latin word arcus pluvius,
which refers to a rainy arch. It's called a rainbow because
its shape looks like an archer'sbow.
It is the universal symbol of peace and harmony, and also
renewed hope. The primary rainbow normally
appears after a rainstorm, but they can occur wherever light is
(08:42):
being bent inside of water droplets.
The sun is equally important. It requires white light, water,
denser medium air, less dense medium, and conditions to help
refraction occur. At 42°.
It can also be seen in the mist, spray, fog, and dew.
We are taught in childhood that the bending of light refraction
(09:03):
creates a rainbow. However, the reflection of light
has an important role in the formation of the rainbow.
Light is refracted at the end oflight, is refracted when it
enters the rainbow, and then it is reflected inside the drop and
again refracted as it goes out of the drop.
Some other rare rainbows are upside down rainbows or circum
(09:28):
xenothal arcs that form when thesunlight reflects through ice
crystals, and twin rainbow 2 rainbow arcs that split from a
single base. So some rainbow symbolism.
So some rainbow symbolism. We do.
So here's some rainbow symbolism.
(09:49):
According to wisdomofthespirit.com, a rainbow
is often seen as a powerful spiritual symbol, rich with
meaning and diverse interpretations across cultures.
A rainbow represents a bridge, abridge, a promise, and a
reminder of hope. At its core, a rainbow carries a
message that blends beauty, resilience, and inspiration.
(10:12):
The first symbolism is a sign ofhope and renewal.
One of the most universal spiritual meanings of a rainbow
is hope. When a rainbow appears after a
storm, it serves as a reminder that difficult times are
temporary and that beauty can follow hardship.
Just as sunlight breaks through dark clouds to create a rainbow,
hope emerges after a period of struggle.
(10:35):
In spiritual terms, seeing a rainbow may symbolize new
beginnings, overcoming obstacles, and healing and
growth. Whether you're enduring a
personal storm, like facing the grief of a loved one's illness
or experiencing emotional challenges, the rainbow acts as
a gentle nudge to keep going. Rainbow can also symbol a divine
(10:59):
promise. The idea of a rainbow as a
symbol of divine promise dates back to biblical times.
In the story of Noah's Ark, a rainbow was a symbol.
A rainbow was a sign of God's covenant with humanity,
promising that the earth would never be destroyed by flood
again. This story highlights how
rainbows have long been viewed as sacred assurances of safety
(11:20):
and protection. Spiritually, a rainbow may
remind you that you are supported by the universe.
Protection and love surround you, and there is a purpose
behind your journey. Symbolism #3A bridge between
realms. Please pay attention to this
one. Many cultures see the rainbow as
(11:40):
a bridge between the earthly andthe divine.
For instance, in Norse mythology, the Bifrost is a
Rainbow Bridge connecting the realm of humans, Midgard, to the
realm of the gods, Asgard. This idea of a rainbow as a
connector of worlds suggests that seeing one can symbolize
spiritual connection, enlightenment, and a link to
(12:02):
higher consciousness. If a rainbow appears, it may be
guiding you to seek deeper spiritual understanding.
Pay attention to messages from your intuition.
Embrace a spirit, a journey of spiritual awakening.
I think this third symbolism, a bridge between realms, is going
(12:23):
to absolutely know something meaningful to strange things,
considering that there is literally a chapter title of
season 5 called the Bridge. But anyway, I digress.
So a rainbow can also assemble transformation and growth.
A rainbow spectrum of colors also symbolizes transformation,
(12:45):
just as light transform transforms when it passes
through rain droplets or raindrops.
To create a rainbow, individualsundergo transformations in their
own lives. Each color of the rainbow
resonates with a different energy and meaning.
I'm going to give you the list of colors, and there's spiritual
meanings. Red spiritual meaning, vitality,
(13:08):
passion, and grounding. Orange, creativity, joy, and
enthusiasm. Yellow, clarity, confidence, and
intellect. Green healing, growth and
imbalance, Sorry, healing, growth and balance.
Blue communication, truth and tranquility.
Indigo, intuition, deep reflection and insight.
(13:30):
Violet Spirituality, Enlightenment Enlightenment and
Wisdom Each time you see a rainbow, it may be a gentle
reminder to consider which aspects of your life are
evolving or evolving. Maybe you're being invited to
align with your true passions. Red or embrace new creative
(13:51):
ideas. Orange Personal Connections to
Rainbows Beyond cultural and historical interpretations,
rainbows can hold deeply personal meanings.
For someone who has lost a lovedone, seeing a rainbow me might
be a sign of their presence or acomforting message from beyond.
If you've been reflecting on your purpose of seeking
(14:12):
guidance, a rainbow could be a response to your unspoken
questions. Rainbows and Dreams According to
symbolopedia.com, seeing a rainbow in one's dreams often
points to optimism, clarity, anda fresh perspective.
It can suggest that the hardships faced are temporary
(14:34):
and will soon be followed by happiness or a time of
blessings. Dreaming Dreaming of a rainbow
might also represent spiritual enlightenment, personal growth,
and the realization of 1's potential.
Rainbows in Myth and folklore Rainbows hold a special place in
various myths, legends, and cultural stories.
In many traditions, they are seen as bridges or pathways to
(14:57):
the divine. As I mentioned earlier, in
North's mythology, the Bifrost is a burning Rainbow Bridge that
connects Midgard, the realm of humanity, with Asgard, the realm
of the gods. And also, as I mentioned in the
biblical story of Noah, the rainbow serves as a covenant
from God, a promise that the earth would not be flooded
again. Indigenous sculptures might see
(15:18):
the rainbow as a serpent or a celestial being, attributing it
both with creation tales and spiritual guidance.
These diverse interpretations across cultures underline the
rainbows universal allure and its embodiment of hope, promise
and divine connection. So you know, I I see like before
(15:39):
I get into the stranger strangerthings part of this, I actually
see like rainbows stranger things being hybrid of both of
these like I just miss it. But you know, the realm of
humanity and the realm of the gods, you know, the upside down
versus the reality. And then, you know, maybe is
we're yet to see is something inseason 5 of promise after
(16:05):
everything is is finished, you know, so rainbows as seen as
stranger things. So I'm going to take you back
like we're going to do like likepreseason one the lab events
from 1979. This is comes from a Screen Rant
article. The Stranger Things season 4
scene where 11 and Henry Creel faced each other in the Rainbow
Room has an interesting background detail.
(16:28):
There is a rainbow running alongthe wall behind the two of them.
However, the colors of this rainbow are not the same behind
Creole as they are behind 11. In fact, they are reversed with
a line of Violet at the top and red at the bottom behind Creole,
and a line of red at the top andViolet at the bottom behind 11.
(16:48):
This illustrates that despite their extraordinary powers, 11
and Creole are different and canbe understood as opposites or
mirrors of each other, which explains why 11 can't join him.
Of course, the rainbow on the wall can be interpreted as
simply a reference to the UpsideDown, which certainly makes
sense. However, it is not the only
(17:10):
mirroring mirroring in the sceneas 11 and magnified each other
telekinetically. They mirror each other's
actions, with 11 reaching out with her right hand while Vetna
favors his left. Once again, the similarities
between them are clear, while the difference is, although
subtle, are potentially more significant.
(17:33):
And I want to take you back to the colors and what they mean,
what I just read, you know, based on that order, that
article of, you know, it's very interesting that you know what
(17:55):
behind 11 is red at the top, so vitality, passion and grounding,
and then at the bottom, spirituality, spirituality,
enlightenment and wisdom and hisreversed.
It's very interesting those colors both reflected in both of
them, which again, I find very, very interesting, especially for
(18:18):
him like it for his to be on top, you know, but also I, I
also looked up just like rainbowrooms and if they really do
exist and they do, they do exist.
A lot of hospitals have them andit's very interesting.
You know, we go back to season 2when when Terry goes to to take
(18:40):
her daughter back and, and, and what we back then referred to as
the rainbow room because the rainbow was on the side of the
door. You know, Brenner even says in
season 4, like he refers to it as a hospital.
You know, of course it mean it was probably masquerading as a
hospital where really it was a secret government lab doing
(19:01):
secret government experiments onchildren.
But yeah, the rainbow rooms do exist.
Again, like I said, usually in hospitals or also in, in mental
hospitals as well. And they're mostly used to, to
(19:27):
calm patients down and especially for children, it's
mostly in children's hospitals, which again, that, you know, we
that definitely drags everythingin the lab, which I think makes
it only, only makes it creepier. The fact that you have
literally, as we see in season 4with the, you know, the
(19:48):
flashbacks in 79, there actuallyreally was a rainbow room.
There really was a rainbow room. And and the fact that you know
why it was there with these kids, that's what their quote UN
quote play area was, you know, to keep them calm.
(20:11):
And almost like, I guess sedatedagain, just, you know, that was
the only color that was there and but yet it was still so
sterile. And so, you know, everything
like, you know, neat and orderlyand not that being neat and
orderly is a bad thing, but I mean, this case let's just for
supposed to be for children. And yet again, everything's so,
(20:34):
you know, by the book and sterile and and and precise and
and definitely not does not really, in my opinion, encourage
much, much fun to go on there. But you know, again, like this
is something we we don't yet know.
(20:55):
But I think, I mean, I'm hoping we find out in season 5.
But if we even if we don't, you know, my interpretation and head
cannon will always be that. I mean, obviously we know that
Henry knew of Terry, 11's mother, whether it's because he
met her through the program or or he is actually 11's
(21:17):
biological father, who I don't know.
But you know, I always go back to how to Terry know where to
find 11. You know, she was obviously
looking for a specific room and assuming like, you know, 11, I
(21:38):
would dare say she's probably four or five years of age in
that scene, in the flashback scene in season 2.
And it's like, you know, with Terry, OK, if she hasn't seen 11
since she was a baby, since she was taken from her number one,
you know, how would she know what she looked like?
And #2 how would she even know that 11 would be in that
(22:01):
specific room unless, you know, when, when Terry was initially
going through the program and she saw kids in there, you know,
perhaps maybe she saw Henry in there.
I don't know. I mean, I, I think that her and
Henry, my, my, my estimation would be that her and Henry are
around the same age. But is it possible that, you
(22:27):
know, maybe Henry, you know, that was around the time he
became orderly and he got close with Terry when, you know, 11
was taken from her and, and he vowed to, you know, help her get
her daughter back or whatever. And, and, and he reached out,
(22:48):
found somehow found a, found a way to contact Terry and, and to
order, you know, you know, whereshe was and she was still alive.
And maybe he painted a rainbow on it on the side of the door
and be like, hey, look for this rainbow.
And that's where she'll be because again, it just it just
seems so again, so just so random.
(23:09):
I mean, again, I don't know if that's ever going to come come
to pass or anything like that. But that's just my my own head
candidate. But anyway, in season 1, when
Hopper infiltrates the lab, he comes across a drawing which
features a rainbow above 2 stickfigures.
(23:30):
Now we later learned this is Elevens drawing that she, you
know, presumably made in the rainbow room.
She just doesn't remember that in season 2, like I said, Terry
goes to take L back from the laband Joyce references Will's
rainbow rocket ship that he drewwith, you know, 125 colored, you
(23:56):
know, Grayons to, you know, helptap into his memories when he's
possessed by the Mind Flayer. And then Will coloring with the
crayons throughout season 2. And then season 3, Max wears
clothing with rainbow stripes onit.
And and season 3 in general was just a very colorful season.
(24:20):
And then season 4, the rainbow room, obviously, and the Wizard
of Oz was a huge influence on season 4.
And then we have Holly when Erica comes to to take the the
light bright from her that they they're going to need that to
(24:41):
cut to communicate with Nancy and everybody down in the upside
down. And Erica hands her a bag of
Skittles. So, you know, taste the rainbow.
And so it's interesting. We already just for for what
we've seen in the behind the scenes footage, season 5.
I mean, we know that Holly Wheeler is going to be more
(25:03):
important in season 5 and I think Erica as well.
So it's interesting that these two here some some very good
foreshadowing taking place here of these two characters with the
with the subtleness of her just handing her a bag of Skittles
and you know, for your understanding.
But it's very interesting because if you followed along
(25:25):
with us in our script series, then you will know that in that
scene that's written in the script, it is not a bag of
Skittles. It's a bag of Reese's species.
But they they obviously changed that when they filmed.
And I think there's a good reason why.
I think it's because I think that by that point they were
(25:45):
like, you know, they'd already been begin to maybe think about,
you know, making holly more moreprevalent, more important a part
of the show in season 5. And and I think just again, just
all goes back to everything to do with the rainbow.
And and I think, yeah, I mean, obviously we'd like the clock is
(26:08):
a bit like if you see the clock, that's not a good sign.
But I think in terms of US for the US, the audience, when you
see a rainbow in the show, I mean, that's not always a good
sign. But again, I, I, I think that,
you know, the rainbow again, is going to play such a huge role
(26:29):
in season 5. You know, we have A Wrinkle in
Time, which is, we already know it's going to play a huge, huge
role in the plot of season 5. And on the cover of that novel
is a rainbow. And I meant just mentioned the
Wizard of Oz somewhere over the rainbow, which I would love if
(26:51):
they could get that in the trailer or in the season.
That would be great. But you know, I think the Wizard
of Oz, you know, I think a lot of it has to do with, you know,
Dorothy. And a lot of this too, comes
from us learning and later on with wicked between the the good
Witch and Galinda and and the Wicked Witch of the West
(27:18):
Alphaba, and then, you know, thewizard and and then Dorothy is
just basically a pawn between those forces.
And I see that a lot of like Will in season 1, you know,
Will, you know, just being, you know, I think we're going to
find out a pawn between power struggle between 11 and and
(27:43):
Henry, though 11 didn't realize that at the time.
And I think on the flip side, with 11 in the lab and then her
flashbacks, I think she was a bigger just a pawn and a bigger
play for power between Brenner and Henry.
So I think those are definitely the parallels between Will and
(28:04):
11:00 there. So, yeah, like again, thank you
so much for for tuning in to my breakdowns on these these two
very important symbols in the show.
Maybe, you know, Jasmine is backmaybe before Season 5 or maybe
(28:26):
after season 5, we can break down the clock and it's
symbolism and time and all that, which I think is still going to
be it's going to play also play a role in Season 5 as well.
So again, thank you so much for joining me today.
And yeah, if you you liked this episode or you you had anything
(28:50):
else that I may have missed herein this episode, just leave us a
comment. We'd love to hear from you guys.
And again, you know, this episode, when it comes out, will
only be about a week out from from Tadum, which I hope you
guys are excited. I'm excited and yeah, like, what
(29:11):
do you think we're going to get?Like do you think we're going to
get an actual teaser trailer post, like the first official
poster, release dates, all the above?
Again, let us know because I'm hoping we get something because
you know, Jasmine and I, we already, we want to record
something about it. I'm going to do an episode on
it. So yeah, hopefully they don't
disappoint us. But yeah, thank you.
(29:34):
