Internalizing the negative things that people say or do can be really painful, and detrimental to us in several ways. Adopting this new habit of taking NOTHING personally changes the game. Nothing that anyone ever does or says is because of who you are. The way that other people see themselves affects how they treat those around them, and keeping that in mind is the key to living a joyful, fulfilling life.

In this episode, Tyler Simone discusses why you should always remember that absolutely nothing is personal, and how taking things personally can cause more pain than necessary.

(00:00):
Hi, I'm Tyler Simone and this is the Happily Self-Conscious podcast the show where it's cool to be self-conscious as a personal development

(00:10):
Enthusiast I love to learn how I can become better in all areas of life
And I want to share with you transformative tips and tricks to help you also become your best self together
We'll learn how we can become more self-conscious. Let's do it!

(00:41):
Welcome to episode number 15 of the podcast
I hope you're enjoying your day whether you are just starting your day
Maybe you're in the middle of the day or winding down for the night either way
I hope it was a good one. This episode is coming out a little later
Then I usually release them Monday morning. That's my sweet spot. That's always the goal, but you know what?

(01:08):
Nothing's perfect
And it's so funny because we're all on this journey of trying to be more self-aware letting go of negative or bad habits like
perfectionism and I am trying to give myself grace in real time
You know the episode's not going out on Monday morning. It's fine. It's okay

(01:32):
For today's episode, I wanted to share one major
Mindset shift that I have adopted that has truly changed the game for me
I mean it has completely shifted everything. I move past
Situations a lot quicker. I stay in my positive state of mind

(01:55):
It's really changed my life and that one mindset shift and the one thing that I want you to remember
each and every day is
That nothing is personal literally nothing
Nothing at all and I wanted to talk about this because I hope that it'll help you in your personal life in your professional life

(02:16):
Because it has helped me in mind more than I could ever
Explain I know that the idea that nothing is personal
It can be hard to believe that sometimes because a lot of things seem very personal
It can seem like you're under attack. It can seem like someone was placed

(02:37):
Very meticulously in your life to destroy you and everything you've ever worked for but
You'll be pleased to know that nothing is personal and by that I mean that nothing that anyone ever does is
Because of you or because of who you are
It's because of the way they see themselves and the way that they view the world really

(02:59):
I don't know about you, but knowing this gives me so much
Peace it really takes a load off and it gives me the ability to see things for what they truly are
Everybody is living in their own world. We all exist together, but we're in our own worlds in a lot of ways

(03:21):
when you go about life
feeling like what's going on around you is because of you specifically or
Because there's something wrong with you you can be hurt very very easily
And I know this because that was me at one point
This lesson has very recently sunk in for me

(03:41):
I learned that taking things personally makes you
Easy pray for people who are out to hurt other people because they know that their words or their actions can get to you
But when you realize that you are in some ways just a mirror to other people

(04:02):
Reflecting them back to themselves and that the things that other people say and the things that they do are
According to the things going on in their own mind
You become immune to the pain that people are trying to aim your way you maintain your sense of joy
You carry on with your day and you kind of just let criticism bounce off of you

(04:27):
Adopting this way of thinking is super important no matter who you are and no matter what you're doing
But it's definitely crucial if you're trying to grow in any way if you are
Evolving if you are putting yourself out there more becoming more of your true self pivoting in your career
You have to become as immune as possible to

(04:51):
Negativity coming from other people and it's easier said than done in some cases. That's for sure
But once you get it you're golden and it becomes a superpower
Do you love to read want to get more into reading or just really enjoy personal development like I do

(05:13):
I invite you to join me over in the happily self-conscious book club a free virtual book club brought to you by book clubs

When it comes to taking things personally one way that I like to think about it is that

(06:46):
Anything that is not coming from a loving place is nothing that I need to absorb at all and I'm still working on this
If it's not compassionate if it's not understanding if it's not accepting
It's nothing that I need to spend my time on because it's therefore coming from a negative place a

(07:07):
judgmental place a critical place and the motive behind all of that is to cause pain and that's nothing that I want to be
bothered with
Learning this has allowed me to move through breakups let friendships go and forgive and move forward
whenever I was disrespected or

(07:28):
Unappreciated I just tell myself it's something within them that does not allow them to see me for all that I am
Which is love or they just don't possess the love necessary to love me properly
If someone is not acting out of love, there's something going on within them

(07:48):
It is absolutely nothing to do with you
Love is the highest vibration there is when you feel love inside of you
You give love back and the opposite is true when you're full of love
You don't hurt people intentionally and if you feel that you could have maybe hurt someone
You tend to circle back or you know do something similar to make sure that you weren't coming off in a hurtful way

(08:14):
You know, but when you feel hate sadness disappointment
insecurity or
Envy inside of you. You don't have love to give that's when projection happens
People can only give what they possess
Once you make a habit of not taking anything personally, you don't necessarily

(08:37):
Expect the best from others all of the time. I mean we are all human
But you also don't expect the worst you're just sort of neutral in how you move through life
You see things for what they are and you just live
this allows you to take back the power by sitting back and

(08:58):
letting people just be who they are and
Then deciding whether or not it's something that you want to put up with
Another great thing about this mindset shift is that any negativity
Aim towards you is sent back in the opposite direction
They will have to deal with whatever they're dealing with internally and even more so and you are untouched

(09:24):
Basically, there's so much freedom in deciding that you will not take things personally
it goes back to letting people be who they are and
Not absorbing what's being handed out to us because we have that choice
Maybe someone is giving you constructive criticism in that situation

(09:46):
They might be saying something that you actually want to think more about and use to become better in some area
But even that doesn't have to be taken personally. It's more of a consideration
But it has nothing to do with who you are internally. I
Hope that this was helpful in reminding you that nothing is personal because most times

(10:10):
It really has nothing to do with you. No one knows you like you do and as long as we
Remember that we'll be just fine
For today's quote, I have one from Don Miguel Ruiz
Who is the author of the four agreements and the mastery of love which you should?

(10:32):
Definitely read if you get the chance. He says
Don't take it personally because the truth is that the person is dealing with his or her own feelings
beliefs and opinions
That person tried to send you poison and if you take it personally then you take that poison and it becomes yours

(10:55):
As always, thank you so so much for being here. I hope you enjoyed this episode
