Being curious about your life, and actively studying yourself is important. It is when you stop studying that you lose track of what your passions are, you end up in situations you shouldn’t be in, you stay in certain places for too long, or you feel completely lost. But, it is when you start to study yourself again that you find your way.

In this episode, Tyler Simone discusses her recent encounter with "burnout", why becoming your own "case study" is something you should consider, and why paying attention to your life makes it more fun.

Hi, I'm Tyler Simone and this is the Happily Self-Conscious podcast the show where it's cool to be self-conscious as a personal development

(00:10):
Enthusiast I love to learn how I can become better in all areas of life
And I want to share with you transformative tips and tricks to help you also become your best self together
We'll learn how we can become more self-conscious. Let's do it!

(00:39):
Hello and welcome to episode number 18 of the podcast
Long time no talk. I've missed you. I've missed this. I've missed us
I'm happy to be back. I did take a little break
unexpectedly because I was having a moment

(00:59):
I'm not gonna lie and I'll go into it a little bit because I'm just wondering if you've ever felt the same way
But I do hope that you're doing well. Thank you for being here aside from my little life update today
I do have a few topics that I really want to discuss with you today that have been on my mind

(01:20):
I've had some realizations and I want to share them with you. So let's get into it
There are no conversations. I enjoy more than I do
conversations about life and
There's nothing that I enjoy doing more than I enjoy learning about life and why things are the way they are

(01:41):
Why do we have the reactions that we do? Why do people do the things that they do?
I live for those types of conversations
They just do something to me and maybe you've caught on to that by now
But I could talk about that kind of stuff forever because that's the good stuff
whenever someone starts a conversation about something like

(02:04):
Emotions or people in any capacity. I'm like, yes, let's do this. Let's get into it
Let's talk about what's really going on
Let's go deep into the real stuff because that's what truly matters in my mind
and it's so interesting to look at life from a curious perspective and

(02:25):
That's what this episode is all about
Recently I got really really burnt out and that's actually what led to me taking a break from the podcast
and it made me really sad because this is what I love to do and
My energy was just so drained
So I'm working on creating a system for myself so that this never happens again

(02:50):
But it didn't feel good at all. It was to the point where I couldn't even look at my laptop without breaking down
And at first I thought that I was just tired
But I don't think that you get that kind of reaction when it's just you being tired
And that might have been a part of it, but I discovered that I was giving too much of my energy

(03:12):
To my full-time job and not enough energy towards my passion
For those of you who don't know I am a digital marketer by day and a podcast host trying to create something new at
every other point of the day and I have goals as far as
expansion and growth and I have so much that I want to do in my life as far as my career goes and just you know

(03:38):
life in general and
Sometimes it can feel like work gets all of my time and my energy and
My inner being does not handle that well at
All and I know that because this has happened to me a few times over the years
Every day I'm doing my best to stay on top of my tasks at work

(04:04):
Of course, I'm working hard and by the end of the day
I don't have much energy left to do what truly makes me feel
Fulfilled and this isn't the case all of the time
I have been making time, but I could be a lot better about
Managing my time, I guess I don't know how you feel and maybe you feel the same way

(04:26):
But there has to be some kind of balance. I'm not really somebody who can sacrifice what I love and
Be okay, I might be able to do it for a little while and pretend like I'm okay
but it always comes to a head and
Then there's a breakdown. It's like the unhappiness just takes over me

(04:50):
Eventually this episode is not necessarily about that incident burn out or creating balance
But it did make me realize that life is about being your own case study
Studying yourself to figure out why you are the way you are

(05:10):
Why certain things don't sit right with you why you require structure or why you don't and I guess my love for personal
Development is proof that I enjoy learning about myself and the world
But this idea that I've come up with becoming your own case study
That's a newfound realization and one that I think you should consider too. I

(05:34):
Truly think it's one of the keys to a joyful life because it's the only way to truly understand yourself
ever since getting into
Self-help and personal development. I adopted this approach and I've had it for years, but it was more of an
Internal thing I didn't necessarily think of myself as my own case study

(05:57):
But that's what I've been doing for as long as I can remember
life is a
Huge experiment and you're the ultimate research participant and matter of fact you're
The only participant and there's so much research to be done so many
new
discoveries to make if you're open to exploring

(06:20):
Since thinking about my life this way
I have been getting to the bottom of things a lot faster and what I mean by that is that I've been reflecting on what's happening as
It's happening or soon after so that I can learn my lessons and move on

(06:40):

(08:15):
Tend to examine every part of who I am and my life to get clear on why things happen and this whole burnout situation
Was definitely one of those times where I'm sitting back and I'm trying to figure out what's going on
Why did I wait so long to take a break? What am I feeling and the truth is that?

(08:36):
It's exhausting to go after your dreams and work full-time to support yourself
It's definitely possible, but it's not easy and I'm sure some of you can relate
It's really vulnerable for me to say this
But I've gotten to this point in every job that I have ever had where I realize

(08:57):
Nope this this is not it. This is not my passion because if it was I wouldn't feel like this
And that's okay
You know not every job that you have is gonna be your passion and you're not going to feel super fulfilled in every role
But how do you do both without burning yourself out or without feeling unhappy or without feeling?

(09:21):
Resentful towards the job that takes up so much of your time that you have little to nothing left to work on what makes you feel
Joyful, I think that that may be why some people forget about it all together and get really comfortable in their jobs
Not doing what they love and being my own case study and paying attention to this pattern

(09:43):
I've learned that that's just not enough for me and when I do that when I don't give my passion enough of my time
When it's not balanced. I am not happy and I can't ignore it
There is a breakdown that happens every single time
I don't know if any of you get this feeling or not, but it comes on

(10:06):
Extremely strong and the one major thing I want for my life is to do more of the things that make me happy
and less of the things that don't
That's why studying yourself is so important because you need to know where your feelings are coming from and when it's time to do
Something different when to shift because you don't want to feel unhappy or unfulfilled longer than you have to

(10:31):
I've gotten so good at studying myself that I can pinpoint when feeling
Unfulfilled is
Coming can you pinpoint when you start to get uncomfortable because I know I can do you know what triggers that?
for me with this recent situation my solution after realizing all of this about myself is

(10:55):
To create more balance when it comes to my time and I know that
Balance is a pretty hot topic right now
Is there really a such thing as balance that you can actually achieve? This is not work life balance
this is work work balance and I don't hear much about that and I think I just created a new term when I say balance I

(11:21):
Mean making sure that you are giving your necessary work and your dreams
Just as much if not more energy than fulfilling someone else's dream
The reality is that when you work for someone else you are working towards their dream and their goals
You are trying to make their vision come to life, but your vision is just as important

(11:44):
So it's pretty important to find that work work balance
But back to being your own case study
Have you ever realized that your life starts taking a negative turn when you start paying less attention to your life?
When you start getting lazy as far as paying attention goes thinking twice about your decisions getting still

(12:10):
Actually following your heart being curious about your life and actively studying yourself is something that I feel is a must
For everyone because I realize that it's when you stop
Studying that you lose track of what your passions are you end up in situations
You shouldn't be in and you stay in certain places for way too long or you just feel completely lost

(12:36):
but it is when you start to study again that you find your way because
honestly, you can find your way out of any
undesirable situation if
You take the time to look inward and get to know yourself better
to continue to make bad decisions is partly due to a lack of self-awareness and

(12:58):
carelessness when it comes to you and
That can be changed at any time at any point you can choose to be more interested in yourself
And that's what it's really all about when I think about it being
interested in
yourself to study yourself is to discover yourself to discover yourself is to find your path and

(13:19):
To find your path is to find love and more joy and peace
Which is top three top three benefit for sure
It's so much fun to look at everything you do and everything that happens to you like an
Experiment of some sort well at least I think so
Sometimes things happen to me and I'm like whoa that was crazy. Why did that happen?

(13:45):
Why did I react that way? How can I be better next time?
It takes the harshness out of life and things start to make so much more sense
it makes life more fun and
Isn't that the point isn't that why we're all here?
I don't believe that we're here to impress anyone or to make a lot of money or any of that

(14:06):
I believe that we're all here to just learn about ourselves and to become as great as we possibly can and to do that
You have to be willing to observe your circumstances and your shortcomings and to do more of the things that you love
And less of the things that you don't
My life has truly become so much more enjoyable when I started to

(14:29):
participate in my life of course, but because I also started to sit back and reflect instead of getting caught up in
negative feelings
feeling bad for myself and the things that I go through
This goes for the past too. There are things that I've done that I think about now and I'm like

(14:50):
What kind of mental state were you in? Why were you in that mental state? What's different now?
What have you learned between now and then as you can see I have a lot of questions and when I sit back and study myself and
Answer my own questions. I feel a lot lighter. It allows room for

(15:12):
Forgiveness and there's a lot less confusion
The more you study yourself the faster you get to the bottom of things and the faster you get to the bottom of things as
They pertain to you the better you feel
the quote that I'd like to leave you with today is
Formal education will make you a living

(15:34):
self-education will make you a fortune and
I have one more because I just couldn't help myself
Knowing others is
Intelligence knowing yourself is true wisdom
