Have you ever been afraid of yourself? Or how much you’re growing, and the pace that you’re growing at?

Going through a “growth spurt” can be pretty uncomfortable because of the changes that are happening, and a “personal growth spurt” is no different. They mirror the physical growth spurts we experience in childhood, but on a mental, emotional, and spiritual level. Over the last few months, I've been going through a massive personal growth spurt, and I want to share what I’ve learned about the importance of rest, reflection, and recovery in the process. Growth can be uncomfortable, even scary, but it’s necessary. Just like our muscles need rest days to recover and grow stronger after a workout, we also need time to process and heal from personal growth.

In this episode, Tyler Simone discusses why it’s important to give yourself permission to pause, reflect, and recover to truly step into who you're becoming.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or stuck in your journey, this episode is for you.

(00:00):
Hi, I'm Tyler Simone and this is the Happily Self-Conscious podcast, the show where it's

(00:06):
cool to be self-conscious.
As a personal development enthusiast, I love to learn how I can become better in all areas
of life and I want to share with you transformative tips and tricks to help you also become your
best self.
Together, we'll learn how we can become more self-conscious.
Let's do it.

(00:26):
Hello.
Welcome to a new episode of the Happily Self-Conscious podcast.
Oh my God, it's been way too long, but I'm so happy to be back and I've been working

(00:51):
on a few things that I'm super excited about sharing with you here on the podcast.
I'll tell you one thing, Happily Self-Conscious officially has a home, HappilySelfConscious.com,
which you can visit by clicking the link in the show notes.
There you'll find the Lifestyle and Wellness blog, merch and all of the things.

(01:13):
So check it out.
If you are just as into wellness and personal growth as I am, I think you'll enjoy it.
I thought that it was only right to talk a little bit about growth and growth spurts
in this episode as well as the importance of rest and reflection when it comes to personal
growth because I have been going through a massive growth spur and I want to talk about

(01:39):
it.
For so many years, I saw a growth spur as something that happens on a physical level
during childhood or early adolescence.
You get taller or for some of us we grow boobs, but over the last year or so, I've been moving
forward in my own personal growth journey, of course, and I learned and realized that

(02:04):
personal growth is in some ways the exact same thing as a growth spurt, except personal
growth is always happening internally at every age consistently.
It just never stops.
I'm going to refer to it as a personal growth spurt.
Personal growth spurts, they just never end.
With this personal growth spurt that I've been having within, I would say the last few months,

(02:30):
I realized that sometimes you just need to give yourself time to rest and recover from
all the growth that you're having.
In my mind, it's similar to working out.
You need a rest day or a few, depending on the exercises that you're doing.
You have to give your body time to actually recover and heal from what you've been doing

(02:52):
in the gym so that your body can actually reflect all of that hard work.
You become more toned or you lose weight because as you may know, in some cases, you're tearing
muscles and it's in the healing that you actually become stronger.
When you don't give your body time to heal and rebuild, you can cause injuries, etc.

(03:14):
Personal growth spurs are no different, in my opinion.
You have to give yourself time to reflect and heal so that you can show up better and
stronger.
If you don't give yourself that time, you have the potential to cause other issues.
In this case, internally, mentally, psychologically, etc.

(03:37):
Do you love to read, want to get more into reading, or just really enjoy personal development
like I do?
I invite you to join me over in the happily self-conscious book club, a free virtual book
club brought to you by bookclubs.com, designed for anyone who is looking to connect with
other people who are on their self-growth journey.

(03:59):
I am super excited about this new opportunity to connect with you and to discuss different
ways that we can become so much more effective in the way that we show up in the world, personally
and professionally.
We are all so different, we're in different stages, we've learned different lessons so
far, but we do have one thing in common.

(04:21):
We are looking to become even better, smarter, and more efficient.
I will be joining you and the other book club members live once a month to discuss our most
recent book club pick, which will be an inspiring and life-changing self-help novel.
So we'll be discussing topics like emotional intelligence, intuition, projection, perfectionism,

(04:43):
charisma, presence, leadership, and so much more to help us all on our individual self-growth
journeys.
This book club is meant to foster community and to spark interesting conversations.
I would love for you to join me in becoming even more self-conscious.

(05:05):
It's just one click away.
Growth can be so uncomfortable and scary to be honest, and I have been both uncomfortable
and scared as of lately in a good way, of course, because I'm growing.
If you're not uncomfortable, that's just not good.

(05:26):
You don't want to be comfortable for too long, right?
I can only speak from personal experience, of course, and what I've personally gone through,
but maybe you felt this way at some point or maybe you will somewhere along the way.
But I started to recognize around the time that I decided to take a break from the podcast
that I wasn't really allowing myself the time that I needed to recover and truly grow in

(05:54):
all of the different ways that I was being called to because there was really no downtime.
It was just go, go, go, go, go.
I'm creating things and I'm just, I'm trying to get going and there was just no downtime.
You know, I'm busy, things are a little chaotic, just a tad, and it certainly wasn't intentional
because if you know anything about me, one thing I love to do is reflect and ponder about

(06:18):
my life.
So I really felt like I needed to take a huge pause and figure out what I truly wanted in
life, to be honest.
What was most important to me because only then would I know where to go or what to do
next, especially when it comes to happily self-conscious, which has now grown into more than I could

(06:39):
have ever imagined and it's continuing to grow.
It felt like I needed to re-strategize and allow myself that time to adjust to who I needed
to be in order to maintain what I had started and created.
With the way that the world works now when it comes to creating things and putting yourself

(07:02):
out there, sometimes you can feel or start to feel like you need to be doing all of these
different things in order to keep up and there's tips coming from every direction and all of
them are not meant for you, but you're having to figure out what works best for you.
And to be honest, it can be very overwhelming, which is why I feel like it's important to

(07:24):
just take a step back and listen to what it is that your heart is telling you to do,
opposed to what everyone around you is telling you to do.
You can only do that when you actually intentionally take a step back.
You pause and you create that space.
It's very hard to figure out what's best for you when you have so many people in your

(07:46):
ear and this is people in general, whether you listen to podcasts or you're in different
groups.
I know for me, I had to take a huge step back in every way.
I had to take a step back from mentoring even and not me mentoring, but my mentor and her
and I's meetings that we would have.
I had to take a step back because she was giving me amazing feedback and I'm so grateful

(08:09):
for her, but I did feel like at some point I needed to sit with myself to figure out
what I needed to do moving forward and nobody else can tell you.
It's all up to you to figure that out and you have to get very silent and still in order
to do that.
And so yes, that's where the rest and the recovery comes in, in my opinion.

(08:30):
I don't think that our personal growth spurts can actually manifest for us in the ways that
they are meant to unless we take that time to observe the personal growth spurts.
What's happening internally?
Are we afraid of something?
Are we afraid of growing?
Are we afraid of being seen?

(08:51):
Sometimes it's uncomfortable.
I would say most times and we have to allow ourselves that time to be uncomfortable, which
doesn't sound fun, but it depends on the way you look at it.
Now that I'm more aware of what a personal growth spurt feels like for me and how to
go about allowing it to do things for me and my growth, I feel a lot less scared about

(09:15):
growing and changing and I don't know if that makes sense, but sometimes when you do the
work and you start to see the things that you've wanted for so long actually happening,
it can be very scary, amazing, but scary because you're being called to grow, to meet that

(09:37):
version of you that's being called forward and you realize, oh, I actually have to become
someone completely new to be able to do this and I need to become that person right now.
You're having to grow very quickly sometimes, but in order to become that person, I do think
that you have to take that time to sit down and you don't figure out what it is you need

(10:00):
to do or how you need to change so you can become that person.
The quote for today is, growth is painful, change is painful, but nothing is as painful
as staying stuck somewhere you don't belong.
Thank you so much for joining me for this episode of the Happily Self-Conscious podcast.
