Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Comedy Legend, Rita Rudner

About Harvey's guest:

Today’s special guest, Rita Rudner, is a comedy legend. After appearing in the national tour of “Zorba”, and then dancing in 6 Broadway musicals including “Promises, Promises”, “The Magic Show”, “Mack and Mabel”, and “Annie”, she made the courageous move to the world of stand-up comedy, and has never looked back.

She worked her way up from comedy clubs, concert halls, TV talk shows and sold-out tours, to becoming one of the hottest tickets in Vegas with the longest running solo female comedy act in Las Vegas history. She’s had a whole slew of highly acclaimed TV specials including “Rita Rudner’s One Night Stand”, “Born to be Mild”, “Married Without Children”, “Live From Las Vegas”, “Rita Rudner and 3 Potential Ex-husbands”, and “A Tale of 2 Dresses”. She and her brilliant husband Martin Bergman have collaborated on many groundbreaking projects including 3 multi-award-winning feature films, “Peter’s Friends”, “A Weekend in the Country” and “Thanks, as well as numerous plays including “Tickled Pink”, “Act 3”, “Room 776”, “Staged”, and the musical, “Two’s a Crowd”, which played off-Broadway in New York.

On television, besides her many appearances on The Johnny Carson show and other major talk shows, she had her own comedy series on the BBC, and for 2 years she had her own syndicated daily show called “Ask Rita”, for which she received a Gracie Allen Award from American Women in Radio and Television. She was also one of the writers of the Academy Award shows for 3 years.

And if all of that weren’t enough, our guest has written 6 books – 4 hilarious memoirs entitled, “Rita Rudner’s Guide to Men”, “Naked Beneath my Clothes”, “I Still Have it: I Just Can’t Remember Where I Put It: Confessions of a Fifty-something”, and “My Life in Dog Years”, as well as 2 novels - “Tickled Pink” and “Turning the Tables”. And the audio version of “Naked Beneath my Clothes” received a Grammy nomination.

The list of accolades our guest has received is jaw dropping. In addition to the awards I’ve already mentioned, she won an American Comedy Award in 1990 for Funniest Female Standup Comic. She was named Las Vegas’s Comedian of the Year 9 years in a row. In 2006 she received the Nevada Ballet’s Woman of the Year Award, and in 2017 she was given the Casino Entertainment Legend Award.
