John Tesh talks all about Entertainment Tonight, Sports and Music

Today’s guest, John Tesh, is a hugely popular and beloved pianist, composer, singer, broadcaster and author. His meteoric career in journalism catapulted him from being an award-winning CBS News correspondent, to hosting network coverage of major international sporting events like the Olympics and the Tour de France, and eventually becoming co-host of the groundbreaking TV show, “Entertainment Tonight” for 10 years. 

But in 1996, after the massive success of his TV special, “John Tesh: Live at Red Rocks with the Colorado Symphony”, he shocked us all by walking away from “Entertainment Tonight” at the peak of its popularity, to launch a full-time music career that has been nothing short of spectacular. He’s released 44 studio albums, 11 compilation albums, 5 live albums, and many televised concerts, featuring his signature musical style – an irresistible blend of orchestral power and rock energy. Some of his most popular albums are “Live at Red Rocks”, “One World”, “Pure Movies”, “Grand Passion”, “Power of Love”, “Pure Hymns” – and now, his long-awaited, brand-new album, “Sports”, which is his first album of all-new music in 20 years. He’s sold well over 8 million records worldwide, and 4 of his albums have been certified gold. His music has earned him 6 Emmy Awards, a Keyboard Magazine Award and 2 Grammy nominations.  And as a composer, he has the unique distinction of having composed what is widely considered to be the greatest sports theme in television history, “Roundball Rock”, for NBC Sports basketball. 

And beyond all of that, in 1999, our guest and his mega-talented wife, Connie Sellecca, created the immensely popular syndicated radio show, “Intelligence For Your Life”, featuring Connie and their son Gib. In addition to providing great music, the show offers advice and expert opinions on everything from health, finance and relationships, to family and careers. The show is heard on over 300 radio stations around the world, and has an audience of over 40 million weekly listeners. 

And if all of that weren’t enough, our guest has also written 4 insightful and inspirational books, the most recent of which is a highly compelling and emotionally powerful memoir entitled “Relentless: Unleashing a Life of Purpose, Grit and Faith”, in which he shares how he learned to turn obstacles into opportunities, and how his profound faith and steadfast determination enabled him to achieve monumental success AND overcome a terminal cancer diagnosis. 

The list of honours and accolades our guest has received is jaw dropping. In addition to the music awards I’ve already mentioned, he received an Associated Press award for investigative journalism. He’s been inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame AND the National Radio Hall of Fame. And in 2007, he won the Syndicated Personality Show of the Year Award by Radio & Records magazine. And in 1993, he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
