Well, well, well, how thetables have turned.
(01:11):
The New York attorney general, who's built her career going
after Donald Trump's businesspractices, now finds herself in
the hot seat.
According to the New York Post, letitia James is facing a
federal criminal referral formortgage fraud, alleging she
falsified records to secure amore favorable loan rate.
Here's the scoop.
James allegedly listed aVirginia home 300 miles from her
(01:34):
New York office as her primaryresidence in official documents.
The modest three-bedroom housein Norfolk valued at around
$240,000, was purchased in 2023with her niece.
But here's the kicker Neighborssay they've never even seen
James at the property.
Federal Housing Finance AgencyDirector William Poult outlined
these allegations in a letter toAttorney General Pam Bondi,
(01:58):
noting that James is required bylaw to have her primary
residence in the state of NewYork while serving as AG.
The referral also accuses Jamesof misrepresenting the number
of apartments in a Brooklynbuilding she owns.
She claimed it has four units, when NYC Department of Buildings
records show it has five acrucial distinction since
buildings with four or fewerunits qualify for better
(02:19):
mortgage terms.
Pulte suggested thesemisrepresentations could amount
to serious criminal charges, including wire fraud, mail fraud
, bank fraud and falsestatements to a financial
institution.
James's office fired back, claiming the Virginia property
was purchased with her niece, who lives there as a primary
resident.
They also called theinvestigation politically
(02:41):
motivated, saying Donald Trump'sweaponization of the federal
government continues to careenout of control.
The irony hasn't been lost oncritics, particularly since
James famously declared no oneis above the law when
prosecuting Trump for allegedlyinflating property values.
Former political rival MichaelHenry turned her own words
against her, saying the mattershould be investigated to the
(03:04):
fullest extent of the law.
Meanwhile, james dodgedreporters outside her Brooklyn
home.
As questions continue to swirlaround whether the woman tasked
with enforcing New York's lawsmay have broken a few herself.
In a landmark ruling that'ssending shockwaves across the
Atlantic, the UK Supreme Courthas declared that the definition
(03:26):
of a woman is based onbiological sex, not gender
identity.
The unanimous decision by fivejustices states that the terms
woman and sex in the EqualityAct refer to a biological woman
and biological sex.
Lord Hodge, who delivered thejudgment, recognized the
strength of feeling on bothsides, while cautioning against
(03:46):
seeing the ruling as a triumphfor one side over another.
He emphasized that transgenderpeople still maintain
protections againstdiscrimination under the law.
The 88-page ruling explicitlystates the definition of sex in
the Equality Act 2010 makesclear that the concept of sex is
binary A person is either awoman or a man.
(04:08):
This decision has far-reachingimplications for how sex-based
rights apply, particularlyregarding women-only spaces.
Conservative leader KimiBadenoch celebrated the ruling
as a victory for women, declaring that the era of Keir
Starmer telling us women canhave penises has come to an end.
The judgment concludes along-running legal battle
(04:29):
between the Scottish governmentand a women's rights group over
whether someone with a genderrecognition certificate should
be legally treated as a woman.
Outside the court, women'srights activists popped
champagne and broke into song, while one protester shouted
Trans rights are human rightsand even if you kill every last
one of us, another will be borntomorrow.
(04:50):
Marion Calder, co-director ofFor Women Scotland, which
brought the challenge, expresseddelight with the outcome.
We're just a grassrootsorganization that started up in
my living room 10 years ago withabsolutely nothing but a plan
to fight back to maintainwomen's rights.
She added that while sexdoesn't matter in everyday life,
it becomes critically importantin certain circumstances, like
(05:12):
prisons, women's sports changingrooms and rape crisis centers.
The ruling also addresses howthis affects same-sex attraction
in organizations, affirmingthat references to sex in this
provision can only meanbiological sex.
People are not sexuallyoriented towards those in
possession of a certificate.
The judgment could influencesimilar debates worldwide, with
(05:35):
the UN's special rapporteur onviolence against women calling
it a triumph of reason and facts.
However, pro-transgender groupscondemned the decision with
Labor for Trans Rights, labelingit hugely disappointing and
vowing to continue to fightagainst all attempts to strip
trans people of their rights.
This ruling stands as a pivotalmoment in the ongoing cultural
(05:57):
conversation about sex, genderand the legal frameworks that
govern them.
A tragic murder case has becomea political flashpoint, as Patty
Morin, mother of Marylandmurder victim Rachel Morin,
appeared at the White HouseWednesday to express her outrage
.
Her appearance came the sameday.
Her senator Democrat, chris VanHollen, traveled to El Salvador
(06:19):
to check on a Maryland residentdeported by the Trump
administration who allegedly hasties to MS-13.
To have a senator from Marylandwho didn't even acknowledge, or
barely acknowledged, mydaughter and the brutal death
that she endured, leaving herfive children without a mother,
so that he can use my taxpayermoney to fly to El Salvador to
bring back someone that's noteven an American citizen?
(06:41):
Moran asked reporters.
Why does that person have morerights than I do, or my daughter
or my grandchildren?
I don't understand this.
Moran shared horrific details ofher 37-year-old daughter's
murder, which occurred in August2023 on the Ma and Pa Heritage
Trail in Bel Air.
On Monday, a jury convictedVictor Martinez Hernandez, an
(07:02):
illegal immigrant from ElSalvador, on all counts of
first-degree murder,first-degree rape, third-degree
sexual offense and kidnapping.
When she went on that trailthat day, she was not planning
on dying.
Patty Moran told reporters.
When she went on that trailthat day, she was not planning
on dying.
Patty Moran told reportersVictor Martinez, he waited for
her.
He waited for her to comecloser.
He saw her.
He saw that there was nobodyaround.
He attacked her.
(07:23):
Moran described how MartinezHernandez dragged her daughter
150 feet, crushed her skull likean eggshell, raped and
strangled her.
She said photos of the attacknow sealed because they're so
graphic show that not one inchof her daughter's body remained
free from injury.
You could see where the bloodran down around her as he was
(07:43):
raping her.
And then he threw her down andraped her some more and then he
strangled her because he didn'twant her to be able to live.
To tell the story, morin saidshe urged the media not to
sanitize coverage of the murder, saying please tell the truth,
tell how violent it really is.
This is about protecting ourchildren.
It's more than just politics orvotes or anything.
It's about national security.
(08:04):
Meanwhile, van Hollen was in ElSalvador attempting to meet with
Abrego Garcia, deported by theTrump administration in what
they admitted was anadministrative error.
Deported by the Trumpadministration in what they
admitted was an administrativeerror.
While Van Hollen met with ElSalvador's vice president, he
(08:25):
was denied access to Garcia atthe Terrorism Confinement Center
prison, but vowed to keeppressing the fight against
Mexican cartels operating alongthe southern border is ramping
up with a new congressional taskforce that aims to deliver real
results.
Texas Republican RepresentativeDan Crenshaw has been tapped to
lead this initiative under theHouse Permanent Select Committee
on Intelligence.
This isn't Crenshaw's firstrodeo in the cartel fight.
(08:45):
Last year he led a similar taskforce that he described as
lacking resources.
Last year's cartel task forcedidn't have any staff.
We were a series of membersconducting hearings,
investigations, crenshawexplained.
I think we're past that stageat the moment.
Now what I lead is really theHouse's effort to actually
create some legislation tocombat the cartels.
(09:08):
Crenshaw didn't mince wordsabout the severity of the
situation, describing the cartelpresence as a terrorist
insurgency within America'sclose neighbor and trading
partner.
His approach features atwo-phase strategy that could
begin showing results withinweeks to months, though he
acknowledged a complete solutionwould be a 20-year ordeal.
(09:29):
The first phase focuses onfunding, particularly for
military and intelligenceoperations.
That means boosting up certainfunding lines and existing
authorities, especially placeslike the Department of Defense.
Crenshaw said Northcom ownsthis area of operation.
When it comes to Canada, the USand Mexico, they're going to
need extra resources becausewe're going to need to do a lot
(09:50):
more training on Mexican specialforces.
The congressman is advocatingfor sending military-grade
equipment to forces at theborder, including Black Hawk
helicopters and strengtheningreconnaissance capabilities.
The goal is to ensure Mexicanforces aren't outgunned by these
pretty massive militias thathave unlimited funding.
The second phase will involvechanging laws and granting
(10:13):
additional authorities toeffectively combat the cartels.
Crenshaw hopes to push thefunding through the budget
reconciliation process, whichwould allow Republicans to pass
the measures with just 51 votesin the Senate House Speaker Mike
Johnson expressed fullconfidence in Crenshaw's
leadership, stating no one hasworked harder on this important
issue than Congressman Crenshawand I.
(10:35):
Timing is right for significantaction, with President Trump in
the White House and Mexico'snew administration under
President Scheinbaum, both ofwhom, he says, are committed to
confronting the cartels head-on.
Breaking news out of New York,as Representative Elise Stefanik
(10:56):
is seriously consideringthrowing her hat in the ring for
the New York governorship in2026.
The 40-year-old upstateRepublican could potentially
become the first GOP leader ofthe Empire State since George
Pataki left office at the end of2006.
Sources close to Stefanikreveal she's being courted by
major donors, new York GOPleadership and allies of
(11:17):
President Trump to make the runagainst Democratic incumbent
Kathy Hochul, whom shereportedly considers a
vulnerable opponent.
The timing of this news isparticularly interesting, as it
surfaced just hours after Trumpposted a social media message
praising Stefanik as greatwithout further explanation.
Stefanik appears to be in astrong position to mount a
(11:38):
serious challenge.
She's sitting on approximately$10 million in potential
campaign cash, enjoys relativelyhigh approval ratings among
state Republican voters andactually outperformed Trump in
her rural district during the2024 election.
In what seems like a clearsignal of her interest, stefanik
quickly released a statementhighlighting recent Marist
(11:58):
University polling showingHochul underwater, with voters
46% disapprove while just 39%approve.
This latest bombshell pollingproves what every New Yorker
already knows that we must fireKathy Hochul in 2026 to save New
York.
Stefanik declared the politicallandscape in New York could be
shifting.
Trump improved his performancein the state by about 5.5% in
(12:21):
2024 compared to 2020, takingmore than 43% of the vote.
Meanwhile, hochul could faceadditional challenges from
within her own party, withcentrist Bronx rep Sir Richie
Torres considering a campaignand former rep Sir Jamal Bowman
expressing interest as well.
Challenges from within her ownparty, with centrist Bronx Rep
Sir Richie Torres considering acampaign and former Rep Sir
Jamal Bowman expressing interestas well.
Other Republicans, like HudsonValley Rep Sir Mike Lawler, have
(12:43):
also expressed interest in agubernatorial bid, but sources
identify Stefanik as the mostpopular Republican in the state
and suggest that if anyone couldwin, it would be her Republican
in the state, and suggests thatif anyone could win, it would
be her.
