Because what if the anxiety thatyou feel, the patterns that you
can't seem to break it, or evenjust the physical symptoms that
you carry didn't start with you?

What if they were maybe echoes?
There may be some emotionalimprints that is left by the
lives of those who actually camebefore you.
You see, today we're going todive deep into the science and
the soul of inherited trauma andalso, most importantly of all
(01:33):
you probably know me really wellby now I always ask why and how
and how, also, most importantly, can we start to set ourselves
free from this.
Now let's set the stage theidea that ancestral trauma can
(01:57):
still be expressed through us.
You see, we often think of DNAas almost like this fixed code
that's just handed to you.
It's almost like a blueprintthat's just passed down from our
parents, right, and that justkind of just dictates everything
from our eye color right downto our height.
But what we're starting to seenow that's really interesting is
(02:21):
that science now actually tellsus that DNA is a lot more like
how can I say?
It's almost like a dynamicmanuscript and, yes, the basic
letters, you know, it kind ofstays the same, but the way that
those letters are read and howthey are expressed, this can be
(02:45):
influenced by life experiences,even trauma.
Now, this also means that, in away, what I can explain is like
the intense emotionalexperiences of your parents and
your grandparents and even yourgreat-grandparents.
All this can leave almost likelittle molecular marks on the
(03:11):
genetic code that you arecarrying today, and it's almost
as if the echoes, like theripple effects of their pain and
, as I like to call it, almostlike the ghosts of their
experiences, are still storedinside of your cells.
Now, what does that mean here?
(03:35):
Now I'm going to open up thediscussion, the science of
inherited trauma, which leads meto epigenetics, how biology
stores experiences.
You see, let's break it down.
First, epigenetics we knowthat's the study of how behavior
(03:55):
, and at least behaviors andalso the environment, can cause
changes that affect the way thatour genes work, without
actually altering the actual DNAsequence of itself.
Now, these changes, they occurthrough these epigenetic tags,
(04:15):
almost like DNA mytholization,that act as molecular bookmarks
and they're telling your cellswhich genes to switch on and off
.
Now, what does research show inregards to this statement that
I'm making?
(04:35):
Let's dive a little bit deeper.
I don't know if you've seen theresearch about the Holocaust
survivors.
Now, researchers that studiedthese children of the Holocaust,
and especially, of course nowthe survivors I'm specifically
referring to.
They all had altered stress,hormone regulation and also
(04:58):
differences in cortisol receptorsensitivity, even though they
never experienced the traumathemselves.
So these are survivors of theHolocaust.
This is the children of theHolocaust survivors.
The famous one also, the DutchHunger Winter, remember that one
(05:21):
Children that were conceivedduring that famine.
They showed lifelong changes intheir metabolism and also
higher rates of cardiovasculardisease.
And also, just ever so recently, researchers also found that
parental PTSD can actually altera specific type of gene that's
(05:45):
impacting stress response in thenext generation.
That says a lot.
So people who many years backsaid, wow, you know, this child
is so young, but they show allthese symptoms of PTSD.
But PTSD can only happen as anadult, when we experience a
traumatic event.
All this is now being blown outof the ballpark.
(06:08):
You see, there was also anotherstudy done.
There was a rodent study thatwas actually done, where mice
they were exposed to like ascent that was paired with like
a mild shock, and then not onlydid they develop a fear of the
smell, but their offspring, eventheir grand offspring, showed
(06:31):
the exact same fear response,without ever experiencing the
shock.
You see, this is incrediblebecause what this is actually
showing us is that these studiessuggest that trauma it leaves
this long biological fingerprintthat can be passed down,
(06:52):
influencing how descendantsrespond to stress, to regulate
emotions and even perceivesafety or danger that they
themselves never experienced.
But, as most of you know, in mywork I love to dive deep into
(07:12):
emotions and how emotions impactand affect the body.
You see, emotional patterns canthey also be inherited?
From my research, what I'veseen with the thousands of
clients that I have worked with.
My answer is absolutely yes.
(07:33):
And now, biology is actuallyonly half of the story.
You see, emotional patterns gothe long distance as well, and
they travel down the familylines through attachment cycles,
communication habits and alsomodeled coping mechanisms.
(07:55):
You see subtle messages justlike we don't talk about
feelings, we're always on guard.
Don't talk about feelings,we're always on guard, or we
sacrifice ourselves for others.
This can become engravedbehavioral patterns.
And now what happens with thisand something that I love to
(08:16):
also teach in my workshops, wedive deep into this as well is
the mirror neurons, because frominfancy we absorb the
environmental tone of ourcaregivers, right, and they
carry unresolved grief, anxiety,hypervigilance and God, the
list goes on, and we couldactually download that way of
(08:39):
being.
And it's not just that.
What about body memory?
You see chronic muscle tensionthat startle reflexes or
patterns of shallow breathingcan be subconsciously copied
from a parent's body language.
Yes, it can be copied from aparent's body language.
(09:07):
And over time, these emotionalinherited imprints, they start
to intertwine with our biologypredispositions, creating this
web of influences that shapesidentity, relationships and,
most importantly of all, youknow my research, our health,
(09:29):
how emotions inherited,experienced in this life, if
left unresolved, can deeplyimpact our health, and I'm not
just referring to mental health,psychosomatic ailments.
Mental health, psychosomaticailments you see, as an example,
(09:51):
let's say, there's a mother.
That's always worrying.
And the beauty of all of this,my point, research is showing us
.
It's actually showing us whatwe can start to do in the here
and now to start to improve ourquality of life.
And I understand that you mightsit there and think well, I
don't know where all of this isfrom.
I get that, I really do.
(10:13):
The body doesn't necessarilyspeak a language in the way that
I'm speaking to you now, wherewe can easily and clearly
understand one another and youunderstand what I'm saying.
The body has a completelydifferent somatic, nonverbal
language, and the more we canstart to learn to just
understand the body's language,what it's trying to say, what is
(10:36):
the messages that's comingthrough when we have aches and
pains, instead of thinkingwhat's going wrong, instead ask
what is the body trying tocorrect.
What is the body trying to tellme that I'm doing certain
things, I'm thinking a certainway, I'm behaving a certain way
that's creating discomfort, andthe body is looking for a
(10:57):
different outlet.
It's looking for a solution,because the only way that we
listen is when there'sdiscomfort.
The only way that we've evolvedto the point where we have is
because we've experiencedresistance or adversity or
challenges.
That's the only time when wepause and we think, oh wow,
something's not working, how doI correct that?
(11:19):
And people having thebreakthroughs are the ones who
are asking the right question.
Instead of thinking what'sgoing wrong, instead think what
needs to be done, what needs tobe corrected.
Right, it's more a matter ofapproaching our body and our
mind with a solution-orientatedmindset rather than going
(11:39):
straight into oh, it's failingme.
The body is not designed to failyou.
It's designed to keep you alive.
That is its sole purpose.
It has no benefit inmalfunctioning in any way, shape
or form.
But sometimes, if we don't knowhow to listen to the messages,
how can the body correct itself?
It's like when you drive a car.
(12:00):
Right, we know we have toservice it regularly, and if we
don't, the engine light might goon, the battery light might go
on, the car might make funnynoises when we're driving.
And if we ignore the messagesbecause we don't understand and
we just go, oh, I guess it'lljust sort itself out and we just
keep driving.
We can't be shocked if the carbreaks down.
(12:20):
Right, the car breaks down,right, expect it.
It's the same with the body.
It's exactly the same with thebody, and my invitation to you
today is to gently give yourbody the benefit of the doubt.
What is it trying to communicate?
What is it trying to correct?
Where does it need your help todecode?
(12:44):
Maybe pain, emotional distressor discomfort?
There's something that the bodyneeds your extra help with
because it clearly doesn't have,perhaps maybe the resources or
the needed solutions to correctthe challenge that it's
experiencing, the challenge thatit's experiencing, and so that
(13:06):
is my invitation to you for thisweek Beautiful.
And so now, as with all mypodcasts, let's start a gentle
meditation, with the focus beingon positive affirmations, to
start to rebuild and heal ourrelationship with our body.
And when you are ready, let'stake a nice deep breath, and you

can sit down as you are, or youcan lie down, whatever you feel
most comfortable with.
It's probably best not to bedriving right now, or maybe
walking somewhere.
If you can sit down, that wouldbe best.
Let's take that nice deepbreath now, inhaling and
exhaling Very good, and noticenow just as you're finding
(14:02):
yourself there, just as you'refinding yourself there.
Notice your breath, just simplyyour breathing, and notice, as
(14:24):
you are breathing, how your bodyis moving with you every second
, every minute, every hour,every day, every week.
(15:23):
It's beating just for you andnotice, now finding yourself
stepping into an open spacewhich transforms now into a
(15:50):
beautiful forest or the beach,wherever you feel safe, wherever
you feel grounded, yourfavorite place and noticing as
(16:19):
you are in that open space, Iinvite you To imagine that
there's a big waterfall in thatspace and you almost feel
invited to step towards thatwaterfall and notice as you do,
(16:53):
and notice as you do, it'salmost like you can feel the
mist of that waterfall, the mistof that water just landing on
your skin and the sound of thewater is so soothing you can't
(17:40):
help but just feel relaxed inthat waterfall and, as you do,
feeling that lukewarm waterflowing down your body, through
every single cell in your body,cleansing you, helping your body
(18:08):
to relax, de-stress and alsojust bringing awareness,
(18:36):
bringing healing in differentareas of your body where you
might feel discomfort Maybethere's pain, maybe there's pain
, maybe there's stress and justfeeling this water gently just
(19:01):
dissolving, dissolving anddissolving and dissolving Any
stagnant stress that is beingheld in your body.
And notice, as you are findingyourself in that waterfall,
(19:35):
starting to feel more and morerelaxed, more at ease, almost
like lighter, just like yourbody is expanding.
All that stress and thesecontractions are just loosening
up.
It's almost like your body waslike a twisted towel that is now
(20:19):
unwinding, unwinding and isstarting to relax more and more.
It's also easier to breathe,isn't it Just imagining, with
every breath that you exhalejust more unnecessary old
(20:44):
stresses, just leaving your body.
And now, as you're under thatwaterfall, receiving all that
beautiful healing, I'm going toaffirm affirmations and all that
(21:06):
you have to do is listen to myvoice, or you can also repeat it
if you wish.
I honor the experiences ofthose who came before me and I
release what is no longer mine.
Imagine your body justreleasing that stress.
(21:30):
Down, down, down, down, downdown into the earth are
acknowledged, but they no longerdefine my life.
(21:51):
I see and I acknowledge thepain in my family's history with
compassion and I allow that nowto run through me and out of me
down, down, down, down into theearth my family without
(22:27):
repeating their patterns.
My body is no longer a prisonfor the past.
(22:59):
It is a vessel for new life andjoy.
Every cell in my body isallowed to release inherited
(23:21):
stress and to welcome peace justremember to also keep your
breathing consistent as we movethrough this, and the story
(23:41):
stored in my DNA can now berewritten with love and safety.

I now let go of
subconscious emotional story.
From this day forward, I chooseto respond with love and
clarity, openness and mutualrespect.

I create relationships based ontrust, openness and mutual

I choose patterns that nurturemy soul and support my growth.

I am a gentle turning point inmy family line.
My healing is a gift to thosewho came before me and those who

will come after me.
I embody resilience, courage andcompassion in every action I

take.
I am now free to live a lifethat my ancestors longed for.
I pass down love, wisdom andfreedom.

I allow myself to heal withlove, self-compassion and
self-love, allowing that healingwaterfall to continue to flow

over you gently, gently, gentlyflowing over you.
And now I invite you, as you'reunder that waterfall, to gently

start to step out, allowingthis healing from today to
continue to integrate throughoutyour day and night and bringing
this healing and thisintegration of it with you back
into the here and now.
The here and now Feeling thesurface beneath your body fully
(28:42):
supporting you and holding you,giving yourself a nice big
stretch and bringing your fullfocus and awareness to the
bottom of your faith, feelingfully anchored, balanced and at
(29:09):
ease and when you're ready, youcan gently open up your eyes and
welcome back.
Welcome back, well done, andalways remember that you're not
(29:31):
alone and you are healing onestep at a time and one breath at
a time, and affirmation fortoday is I set myself free to be
me and remember everyone.
