A published report noted that 51 popular toothpaste brands contained toxic materials including lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium.  These toxic substances disrupt bodily functions including kidney filtration and also affects lungs and pancreas. They've been linked to osteoporosis, anemia and various other health conditions. Mercury amalgams continue to be used in North America despite being completely banned in Europe and other countries.
