(01:03):
Hey there, happy Monday andwelcome back to another episode
of the Healthy Hot Mess Mompodcast.
Thank you so much for tuning in.
Today is Memorial Day in theUnited States, so I hope you
guys had a great weekend, hopeyou have today off and I hope
you're able to, you know, recognize that we are entering a
new season and no matter whatthat means for you whether it's

(01:26):
the transition of kids beingdone school or maybe it's an
awareness or an awakening thatyou have and wanting to get
healthy, lose weight, just feeloverall better, whatever that is
and what that looks like foryou, I hope that this episode
finds you well and motivated tojust put yourself first and
start the summer off with a bang.

(01:47):
So today I wanted to give youguys my five best tips that you
know, even though you're a busymom and you're losing your mind
almost every day.
These are five things I thinkare pretty easy to focus on in
the beginning of a healthjourney and also if you are in
the middle of your healthjourney or anywhere just looking
to be, you know, feeling bettermotivated through the summer.

(02:07):
Things that you can do, tipsand tricks.
These are the five easiestthings that I think anyone can
kind of handle that I think arejust like really good reminders
too.
Like I said, even if you are ona health journey, just things
to kind of recenter yourself.
Refocus on that.
Anybody can use.
That are helpful tips.
So in no particular order.
I'm not going to say one ofthese is more important than the
other.
I think everything's alwaysimportant, but these are the

(02:29):
five things, in no particularorder.
So the first thing would behydration.
Summer months, typically, whereyou're located, means that it's
hotter, right, typically meansyou're going to spend more time
outside.
So really focusing on hydratingour bodies and using this time
to whether it's find a reallycute water bottle that inspires
you to drink more water.
Maybe you want to startinfusing your water with some

(02:52):
fruit.
Maybe you want to explore withelectrolytes, anything that you
can do to get more hydrationinto your life, because a lot of
times we mistake being hungryfor being dehydrated.
So really making sure thatyou're fully hydrated,
especially, like I said, ifyou're spending more time
outdoors and you're sweating alot, if you're working out
outside, if you're working out, make sure you're drinking a lot

(03:14):
of water.
You know your needs for watermay be higher in the summer than
they are in the winter.
So just making sure that you'readdressing that, making sure
that you're staying on top ofhydration, like I said, and
honestly, you will feel bettertoo.
So some things that I like justto mention.
I like the LMNT electrolytes.
They actually just launched asparkling version, so I'm

(03:34):
excited to try that this summerand it's a really you know
another really good way to kindof incorporate.
You know, if you're going outand you're trying to lessen the
amount of alcohol that you'redrinking, that sparkling LMNT
could be a good solution or anytype of sparkling water where
you're still getting that effectof bubbly but you're still
getting hydrated without thealcohol effects or the effects

(03:55):
of alcohol.
So hydration is very, very, very important and something
that we can focus on thesesummer months to make our goals
a little bit easier to achieveAll right.
Number two and, like I said, inno particular order, it would be
spending more time outdoors, right, taking in more sunlight.
Try not to get sunburned, buttaking in more sunlight.

(04:15):
Trying to get outside earlierin the day, taking breaks to go
outside.
We spend so much of our livesat a desk or in a car or just
indoors, taking this time, ifthe weather is nicer near you,
to get outside more.
If you're not at a kid'ssporting event, you know when
you're just at home with yourkids.
Take some time to go dosomething outside as a family.
Take a walk after dinner, youknow, take a walk in the morning

(04:36):
.
Something me and my husbandlike to do is, you know, wake up
at five and sometimes just gofor a walk.
It might be the only time inthat day that we actually can
have a conversation withoutinterruption and it's peaceful.
You hear the birds chirping, you see the sunrise, things like
that.
So taking this time to reallyspend more time outdoors, go for
hikes, bike rides, all thosethings Just remind yourself, if

(04:58):
you don't live in a climatethat's nice all year, that this
might be the only couple ofmonths that you actually get to
enjoy being outside, whereyou're not freezing to death.
So I, for one, just feel morealive in the warmer weather.
So I am all about taking breaksand just taking as much time as
I can to get outside and enjoyfeeling warm, add a coat and
just taking a deep breath andtaking it all in.

(05:20):
So spending more time outsidedoing activities, making you
know movement not seem like sucha chore, is something to really
focus on this summer, where youknow it makes you just feel
good and it doesn't feel likeyou had a clock minutes on a
Peloton bike or anything else inthat regard.
So spending time outside highlyrecommend it in the summer
months.

(05:40):
Number three, and this issomething that you maybe didn't
think about, but I know a a lotof people, especially me, with a
lot of my food allergies.
I get in this rut where I eatthe same five things all the
time and although sometimes it'smakes my life a little easier,
this summertime is a good timeand a good reminder to switch it
up.
Try seasonal fruits andvegetables and in doing so you

(06:03):
might find something that youlove.
But if you go back, you know, Idon't know thousands of years,
like that's what our ancestorsdid.
They had to eat the fruit thatwas being seasonally grown, and
nowadays, with all the stuffbeing in the supermarkets at all
times, we kind of get away fromthat.
So maybe stopping at a localfarmer's market, a little fruit
stand, and seeing what they haveMost of the time they're
organically grown too, which isgreat you can save some money,

(06:24):
you can support local farmers.
But really, you know, going topick your own blueberries, going
to pick your own strawberries, doing things that are seasonal
and consuming more of thosefruits and vegetables that are
seasonally grown, maybe local toyour area.
I wish I was from an area thathad avocados, where I could just
pick an avocado tree.
I'm not, but hey, we haveblueberries and raspberries and
strawberries here, so I willtake that.

(06:44):
But just to remind yourself tomaybe switch out what you're
eating.
Summer's a really great time to,like I said, an easy way to
incorporate more fruits andvegetables, maybe ones that you
haven't tried the rest of theyear.
That's number three.
Number four is really now.
This is something that caneasily get kind of like thrown
to the wayside in the summerbecause we're kind of a little

(07:05):
bit off schedule.
Maybe the kids are not inschool or a camp, it's the same
hours, but keeping to a sleeproutine.
Sleep, I am just like divinginto a ton of research on sleep
and I am recognizing, as I havefor a while, just how much sleep
and good quality sleep affectsme and my day and my motivation
to do things and just how strongI am in the gym and things like

(07:26):
that.
But really making sure thatyou're not taking such a
deviation from the rest of theyear in your sleep schedule,
making sure that you're nottaking such a deviation from the
rest of the year in your sleepschedule, making sure that
you're getting the seven, eighthours a night.
Making sure you know you're notconsuming food because it's
easier to be, like at a barbecueat like eight o'clock at night,
you know.
Making sure that you're notchanging everything up, like
your sleep routine.
Your nighttime habits aresimilar, because if you go so

(07:48):
far from what you're normallyused to doing, you can really
affect your sleep.
Maybe finding a way to monitoryour sleep to make sure that you
are kind of staying on a realhealthy path with your sleep
could be important during thistime.
And also, if you have kids, likemaking sure they don't get so
far off, because those firstcouple weeks of school are going
to be horrible and miserable.
And, trust me, I have a10-year-old.
He wants to stay up to allhours of the night and you know,

(08:10):
sometimes you give into that.
But really explaining to themthe importance of sleep, and
especially to do sports, I tryto talk to my son all the time
about getting a good night'ssleep, how you're going to
perform better that next day,but it's just a reminder.
Sleep is, like I don't know, soimportant.
I don't know if it's the numberone, but it's up there right as

(08:34):
the number one important thingwe can do to help our bodies
feel good, help it, take thetime that it needs to rest,
metabolize our food, revitalizeourselves, get ready for the
next day.
And really, when it comes downto it, you know everyone's like,
oh, I'll sleep and I'm dead.
But it's like sleep is soimportant while you're alive
because it's something that youcan't escape.
It's universal to all of us.
We have to sleep and if you'renot sleeping, potentially all of

(08:55):
the like, just how you're notfunctioning properly.
Your brain's not working on allfour cylinders.
You're, you know, probablygoing to make poorer food
choices.
You're probably not going tofeel strong enough or maybe even
have any energy to do a workoutor to hang out with your kids
or to go for a walk.

(09:18):
So sleep, focusing on sleep andkeeping some type of like summer
routine that is not so farextreme from the rest of the
year.
Like I said, obviously you wantto have fun, you want to enjoy
your summer, but just beingmindful that the more far away
you go from your regular routine, the harder it's going to be
and the worse you may be feeling.
So focusing on sleep is so, so,so important.
Okay, and five, something thatyou know because of this time

(09:40):
being so crazy really takingtime for yourself, practicing
self-care, really honing intolike something that you can do
during these summer months thatmakes you feel good.
That's not, you know, runningthe kids to sports, running them
to and from camp, doingdoctor's appointments, all of
these things like reallyfiguring out what you can do for
yourself.
Maybe it's doing a monthlymassage, maybe it's getting

(10:02):
pedicures because your feet areout all the time.
Finding something that you findjoy in, whether it's maybe
taking like a, you know, afitness class outdoors, maybe
it's going for a bike ride witha bunch of girlfriends, whatever
it looks like for you that youfind joy in during these summer
months to keep you motivated, tokeep you on track.
Because we all know mindset, mental health is so important

(10:24):
and it's one of those thingsthat kind of is forgotten about
and it really is like the center, the cornerstone of our health.
So finding something, whetherit's meditating in the grass,
whether it really is like thecenter, the cornerstone of our
health.
So finding something, whetherit's meditating in the grass,
whether it's grounding in themorning, whether it's going out
and enjoying some sunsets, sunrises, finding something that
makes you feel good about yourhealth, that makes you feel good

(10:45):
and motivated to continue onthe healthy path, that you're on
something that is for you.
Like I said, not running a kidto a sporting event, not running
them to a doctor's appointment, you know, not all the necessary
tasks that we just have alove-hate relationship with, but
truly finding something foryourself.
Maybe it is going to have abrunch with a girlfriend once a

(11:05):
month during the summer, andthat is okay, right.
Taking time for yourself andTaking time to address our
mental health and findinghappiness in the summer and
finding things that we find joyin.
Taking the time and carving outthat hour in your busy life.

(11:25):
You deserve it and I just feellike the summer is a really good
reminder.
When you're off the regularschedule, where kids are in
school, things are lookingdifferent.
You know, although we probablyhave a job and you're having
hours to do that, things lookdifferent in the summer and I do
think it's just a reminder toslow down, enjoy the time that
you have and enjoy some time foryourself.

(11:46):
So again, just a recap of thetips.
Hydration is key and one otherlast little tip on hydration is
if you are going to consumealcohol.
I'm not against alcohol, I'mnot sober.
I do drink occasionally.
But I am trying to be mindfulof hydration and making sure

(12:07):
that if I'm going to consumealcohol, I'm consuming it a
little bit earlier in the daybecause, again, this can affect
our sleep.
So so, just being mindful ofthat, I have noticed dramatic
changes in my sleep and how poorit is when I drink alcohol
later in the day versus earlier.
So, when it comes to beinghydrated, just be mindful of
trying to consume alcoholearlier in the day if you're

(12:29):
going to make that decision andalso consume some electrolytes
with it too.
So, hydration number one.
Number two getting outdoors, enjoying all kinds of outdoor
activities, spending as muchtime outside as you can,
especially if you're like me.
I live in New Jersey and wehave all four seasons, but much
of the spring is rainy.
The winter's cold fall can bekind of questionable, so summer

(12:51):
is really like the solid time wehave to enjoy the outdoors.
So enjoy everything you canoutdoors Dine al fresco, go to
your kids, sporting events, walkwith girlfriends, all the
things.
Number three is trying to bemindful of incorporating
different fruits and vegetablesinto your diet this time of year
, especially if you live in anarea where things are more
seasonal, you know, go pickberries, go pick avocados.

(13:13):
If you live there, go pickcitrus fruits.
Wherever you live, try to bemindful of eating with the
seasons, and it's a really greattime of year to do that.
So just a reminder.
Number four is really beingmindful of sleep patterns and
trying not to deviate too farfrom our, you know, rest of the
year patterns.
You know, I know that kids areout of school, but really trying
to be mindful of not havingsuch a wide window and getting

(13:35):
so far off path from where youusually sleep, because it can
affect your sleep.
And number five, last but notleast, is doing something for
you.
Taking something, carving sometime out of your day, out of
your summer, to regularly dosomething for yourself that's
not in the normal daily taskdo-to-do list.
Finding something that you'repassionate about, something that

(13:56):
makes you feel alive, somethingfor you.
So I hope this episode find youwell happy unofficial kickoff
to summer, and I will find younext week.
