weight and feel good in my skin.
I could add yoyo diet or to myresume.
After I packed on 50 pluspounds with two pregnancies, I
(00:45):
decided to change for good.
I wanted to stop obsessingabout food, stay consistent and
set a good, healthy example formy kids, but I kept telling
myself that I didn't have thetime, the energy or
accountability to stay on track, until I changed my mindset and
created one healthy habit at atime.
In this podcast, you will findsimple, actionable steps that
you can create a healthylifestyle and get relief from
(01:07):
the overwhelm.
Spray that dry shampoo, grabyour iced coffee, turn up the
volume and let's get healthy.
Hey there, happy Monday andwelcome back to another episode
of Hot Mess Mom Health.
I'm so grateful that you arejoining me for another week.
I hope you have an amazing week.
I hope that the spring seasonis just kind of filling your
(01:29):
vibes and giving you the feelingthat you can kind of conquer
anything.
The weather kind of does thatfor me in a lot of ways.
When it starts getting warm andyou can almost smell it in the
air, it does fill me with morepositive vibes for sure.
However, daylight savings timethis year I don't know for
whatever reason has kicked mybutt.
If you're in a part of thecountry that does daylight
(01:50):
savings time, it's great to knowthat it's going to be light
later, but for some reason thisyear I just can't get out of my
sleeping patterns and waking upat five has become extremely
hard.
I don't know if it's a me or ifit's just something going on in
the universe or what it is, butit's been really hard for me to
get my acting gear since thetime change this year.
(02:14):
Today I want to talk aboutsomething that is me on this
podcast, keeping it completelyreal with you all.
I haven't really spoke about ita lot on the podcast, but I am
in the process of training for ahalf marathon that I am
scheduled to run next Sunday, march 26th, with my husband in
Philadelphia.
I have been going through thetraining schedule, doing all the
(02:40):
things I'm warming up, I'mcooling down, I'm doing lots of
stretches About.
I guess it was a little over aweek ago well, I shouldn't say
over a week ago, it was longerthan that, probably about a
month ago.
Every time I'm running mycalves are hurting, they are
burning and I'm limping for aday after I do a long run and
(03:02):
things like that.
I was kind of ignoring it,doing more stretching, getting
in a hot tub, doing my red lighttherapy, popping some of the
leaves.
And then a couple of Saturdaysago I did my long run on a
treadmill because there was notime to get it done outside.
It was about seven miles.
I stepped off of the treadmilland immediately knew something
(03:23):
was wrong.
I was limping for the next 48hours.
Finally decided that Monday togo to a sports medicine doctor,
because it was pretty much theonly doctor that I could even
think of and I had openingsbecause I was afraid I did
something.
So I went there.
They did not think I didanything dangerous like severe I
shouldn't say dangerous didanything severe enough that
(03:44):
would prevent me from running atall or running the race.
However, they put me on afreeze and wanted me to see a
chiropractor.
So that afternoon scheduled toput me on a chiropractor and
they pretty much told me norunning until the race, which
was completely deflating.
And although mentally I think Ican do it, it's frightening to
(04:06):
me because I like to prepare.
I like to follow the course ofaction that I thought I was
going to do to prepare for thisrace.
And it's a hard.
It's a mental game, right Like, running is a mental game,
getting healthy is a mental game, losing weight is a mental game
.
A lot of these things that weall struggle with are completely
mental a lot of times and wecan be our own worst enemy a lot
(04:28):
of times.
And it's really messing with myhead that I have to run this
race and I'm not.
I've seen the chiropractor fourtimes since then.
I will see the chiropractoranother three times next week
before the race, and she saidthat I might be able to run
three miles next week and kindof see how I feel, and then
(04:49):
somehow I'm miraculously, miraculously supposed to be able
to run 13.1 miles next Sunday.
So, yeah, I'm a little stressedout about it, and the reason I
wanted to talk to you guys aboutit today was because I think,
you know, in a weight loss and ahealth journey, in any type of
journey at all in life, whenthere's a setback, it can really
send you in a spiral.
I am doing everything I can tonot let that happen, because the
(05:12):
reality of it is I'm going togo out there next Sunday with my
husband and somehow this raceis going to get completed and
it's probably not going to looklike I thought it was going to
look.
It's not going to be.
You know the time I thought Iwas going to have or I thought I
might be in pain at the end ofit, I don't know.
But I know one thing is forsure there are plenty of
(05:34):
setbacks that I've had in mylife and I've not let them stop
me, and I want this to kind ofbe a reminder to you that things
are going to happen right.
I did not expect to have a calfinjury, like what is like a calf
strain Like, somehow, mytibialis.
I don't even know theterminology, but I did not
expect this.
Right, I'm thinking that I'mdoing all the right things, I'm
(05:56):
following the rules, quoteunquote and to still have a
setback is upsetting at best.
Right and in order to keepmyself focused on the goal of
running that race, these are thethings that I'm doing and I
hope they could offer you somehelp and some support in knowing
that, when things happen right,we have the kind of I don't
want to say, put your big girlundies on, but put your bigger
(06:16):
undies on right, and we have tolook towards the positive things
which, if you've been listeningto this podcast for some time,
I have choose joy tattooed on mywrist to remind me to find the
joy in things, to find the joyin being a mom, to find the joy
when I'm with my kids, when I'mat work and I am not the best at
this, so I literally have ittattooed on my wrist to remind
(06:38):
me to find the joy in things, because it can be hard to not
always get down, to getfrustrated, to get burnt out.
Always be negative.
That is my natural place to beright.
I'm forcing myself out of mycomfort zone in order to become
a better me, a better version ofmyself.
So some things that I'm doingto not let this set back, hold
(07:00):
me back or put me in a badmindset or not allow me to get
to my final destination, whichis the crossing.
The finish line next Sunday is Iam focusing on what's
controllable, right.
I can control how much waterI'm drinking.
I can control what I put in mymouth.
I can control the amount ofsleep that I'm getting at night.
(07:20):
I can control other things thatI'm doing to keep me feeling
like I'm building momentum withmy health journey.
I can focus on the things thatI've been clear to do, like
weightlifting or rowing andthings like that.
I can focus on the controllablethings that I can.
I cannot control necessarilywhat my leg is going to feel
like tomorrow, but I can controlthese other things right.
(07:42):
I can control my attitude.
I can control the negativethoughts.
Right.
I can kind of catch myself.
I can focus on having a growthmindset and saying what can I
learn from this?
You know, a lot of times we getsetbacks, hurdles, things come
up and we don't take a second tosay what's the lesson here?
And for me, it's that I'm not20 anymore.
(08:04):
I'm 40 and my body is notreacting to things like I was
20.
, like I can't rebound.
I can't just go run 20 milesand think that everything's fine
the next day.
I have to.
Really, something that I'mrealizing and acknowledging is
that focusing on mobility andstretching and doing things that
are kind to my body, as opposedto some intense workouts, is
(08:25):
really important when you're 40.
Because from going to thechiropractor and learning about
how I have no mobility in myankles and my hip, mobility is
not great.
These are things that I need tofocus on and I would not have
known those things if thisinjury wouldn't have happened
and I wouldn't been in thechiropractor.
So there are blessings ineverything and sometimes it's
(08:47):
hard to see them at the momentwhen you get that setback, when
something happens.
And not to say that it's notokay to have your moment right,
like I had my moment but I hadto move past it in order to be
able to get to the place whereI'm like I can run this race,
like it's going to happen oneway or the other.
It's going to happen.
What it's going to look like,we don't know, but it's going to
(09:09):
happen.
So, focusing on that growthmindset and what lessons I can
learn from this, I think arehuge in there, keeping me in a
positive mindset and focus onthe end goal and accepting you
know I've said this especiallyin my hot mess to health journey
, success journey, acceptingthat this is a journey and not a
(09:29):
sprint and obviously I'mtalking about a race, but just
in the health journey in general, acknowledging and accepting it
wholeheartedly that this is ajourney and things are going to
happen.
There's going to be ups anddowns, but it's not about the
ups or the downs, it's about howwe get through them.
That really matters.
And I think just looking at itlike this was a journey, this
was.
There's lessons learned, youknow, and how proud of myself
(09:52):
I'm going to feel at the end ofthis, knowing that I even had
this setback but I still stayedcommitted to my end goal.
I didn't throw in the towel andsay, well, I'm not going to run
this race if I can't finishtraining for the next two weeks.
No, I put in the work for thefirst eight weeks and that's
what matters.
And I know I ran nine miles acouple weeks ago I can do 13.
I know I'm ready, I know I'mcapable of it.
(10:13):
Is my mind going to kind of gettry to mess me up?
Of course, but I'm preparingfor that.
I'm preparing myself mentallynow.
I'm going through all thethings that could go wrong.
I'm focusing on how I'm feelingmy body and sleeping and moving
it in other ways that arehelpful to get me to that end
result, because that's going tokeep me moving, that's going to
(10:33):
keep the momentum, that's goingto continue knocking over those
dominoes that we talk about alot in this podcast and other
things that I'm doing.
I am journaling.
I think journaling is a big, often overlooked thing where a
lot of us maybe we'll say and Idid this for years I don't have
time for that, but it is such agood thing to just reflect upon
(10:54):
and just get your thoughts outon paper.
Whether you're angry at thesituation, or you are learning
to accept the situation, oryou're trying to just get all
the certain scenarios that couldhappen out on paper.
There's something so soothingabout doing that and
acknowledging that this is howyou're feeling to be able to
move forward.
So really doing that, I havebeen using my five minute
(11:15):
journal.
I highly recommend it.
I'm going to do a whole episodeabout it in a couple weeks, but
it is something that's superquick.
I can do the morning, I can dobefore I go to bed five minutes
right down your thoughts andyou're out.
I always like if you want ajournal, like couple pages, go
for it, but for me I don't havea lot of time.
If you're anything like me,five minutes is probably all you
have, sometimes maybe less, before your head hits the pillow
(11:39):
, before you need to jump out ofbed.
But it is something that youcan do, you can reflect upon it
in the future and there is justsomething so unbelievably I
don't know motivating aboutwriting the things down that are
in your head and getting themonto paper.
So if you haven't startedjournaling, I highly recommend
that.
If you're going through anytype of challenge or setback, it
(12:00):
can really, really help you alot.
Can that recommend it enough?
So I hope that this helps you.
I just want to be real with youguys.
This is what I'm going through.
This is what I'm doing.
That is helping me.
Whether you're on the firstcouple of weeks of your journey
and something's happened, don'tlet it stop you.
Don't let it bring you down tothe point where you are not
(12:23):
building that momentum, nomatter what it is.
We all have issues that happen,we all have setbacks, we all
have hurdles, obstacles, whatever you want to call them.
Some are big, some are small, but when you're focusing on your
health and you're focusing onyour long-term health goals,
don't let anything stop you.
Do not let anything stop youfrom becoming the version of
(12:44):
yourself that you want to be.
Don't let anything stop youfrom becoming that person that
you've always dreamed about, that person that feels energized
, that feels confident, thatjust feels comfort in knowing
how they feel themselves, theyfeel empowered, that they know
how to make good, healthydecisions for themselves.
Do not let any hurdle or anybond or anything stop you from
(13:07):
getting to that goal.
If you are focused on it I knowI'm not and I really want that
for you too I want you to stayfocused, build that momentum, no
matter what life throws at us,because, let's face it, life is
going to continue to throwcurveballs all the time, and
it's not about having thesetback, it's about how we're
handling it.
So I want to leave you withthese two quotes that I found.
(13:29):
I haven't done quotes in awhile, but I do love quotes, so
the first one is out foreverything, right?
No, we're definitely not goingto do that.
We are going to keep moving.
We're going to get it fixed.
We're going to pick upourselves.
We're going to put our big girlunderwears on and we're going
to keep going, because that'swhat we do, because we're not
going to give up on ourselves.
We are going to keep moving.
(13:50):
You got this.
I hope this episode motivatesyou in some way.
I hope that you found ithelpful and, if you do, please
share this episode with someone.
I want nothing more foreveryone listening to this to
just be motivated, to know thatI'm a real person, just like you
.
I have issues, I have struggles, but I really want to come
together as a unit and just hopethat we can all hold each
(14:13):
other's hands, lift each otherup and get to all the goals that
we want, because we all deserveit.
We deserve to feel great, wedeserve to feel energized and we
should not let anything hold usback.
Have an amazing week.
