This weeks episode of Hear me RAW is with one of the people I respect most on the planet – Bradley Trevor Greive or as I fondly call him BTG. Ex-paratrooper, New York Times mega best selling author, stage and TV producer, qualified cosmonaut, Polynesian rock lifting champion, conservationist, renowned wildlife expert, the voice of the seagull on Finding Nemo, you name it, the guy has done it. He has endured 20 major surgeries, six treatments for rabies, and much of his body has been scarred by and disfigured during regrettable wildlife encounters (his left nipple was gored by a reindeer, then clawed by an arctic fox and then his right nipple was bitten by a Mexican jack fish…
On a personal note before we jump in, I want to make mention of a few things. I first approached BTG in 2004 to write a testimonial for the front cover of my first book Happiness Is… We stayed firm friends from afar for the next ten years with him supporting me and offering wise words of wisdom at every important juncture of my life. I interviewed him for the very first issue of Collective Hub print mag, and again for our anniversary issue 50. We didn’t actually meet in person until 2014 – ten years after we had first made contact. There are few relationships and friendships built like this and ours is one that has and will endure the test of time despite the geographic distances. The last time we saw each other in person was the night my Dad had a heart attack and passed away. BTG was in Australia and as he so generously does, had offered to run a masterclass for my Collective Hub tribe. It was right in the midst of that evening that I received the devastating news about my Dad. I share this because, this is one person that has been a constant source of inspiration, strength and encouragement in my life. And so the universe in some kind of serendipitous way brought us together on that evening. I am grateful to have this man in my life and I am filled with joy that I get to share him with you.
This episode is littered with life lessons galore – many of which are around resilience and perspective.
Without further ado … BTG.

Cardiac Cowboys
The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
