'Twas the night before Christ was
'Twas the night before Christ was,
and all through the land
Not a creature was stirring,
not even a lamb
Bethlehem's doors were all shut -
Inns were full
As Mary and Joseph walked in
from the hills
The time so appointed
had dawned on this earth
To save man from sin
by God's Son's humble birth
Down through the Ages
this Seed was preserved
For Heirs to Salvation
who heeded "The Word"
The doors were all barred,
There was "no room," we're told,
No place for our Savior,
the world's hearts were cold
And though long expected,
prepared for, and planned
They looked for a Savior
of strength like a man
The town lay in darkness
as bright in the sky
Ten thousands of angels
sang praises on high
The angel host watched
as God's glorious plan
Unfolded before them,
revealing "God's Man"
Tho' they sang "Hallelujah!"
and searched all the earth -
Found no one to welcome
their King's holy birth.
A small group of shepherds
was far in the hills
Recalling that scripture
would soon be fulfilled
The angel appeared,
and they were sore afraid.
But he said to assure them,
"Fear not, you are saved!
"He's here!" Sang the Angels,
and lit up the sky
With joyful Hosannahs!
"Your King has arrived!"
"I bring you good tidings
of joy, for this day
You will find In the City of David,
a Babe.
He's wrapped in a manger
down in Bethlehem.
And to the earth peace,
and goodwill to all men!"
The shepherds said, "Hurry,
let's worship our King,
He'll take us to Heaven
and save us from sin!
There under that star,
we will join with the crowd
And welcome our Savior
and praise him aloud!"
But alone knelt the shepherds
who brought Him a lamb
No throng and no praises
for God's Gift to man:
This High King of Heaven,
so mighty to save.
"Emmanuel", "God With Us"
was only a Babe!
Redeemer and Savior,
Messiah, The One!
