There are two conflicting truisms in law enforcement: one is old and one is new. First, it's stereotypical that cops, when you ask them, don't want their kids to go into the same line of work. Second, it's becoming more and more true that law enforcement families are some of the only reliable places to find applicants for the job. Police work, like firefighting and the military, is becoming a family business and we're seeing more multi-generational law enforcement families. Today we're talking to Kevin Steele, who is part of three generation, 63 year legacy at the Kansas City Kansas Police Department.
