(00:01):
So I reiterate here, the bill isdead.
The story of this great city is about the years before this
night. We are free.
(00:22):
Hey everyone, this is Ho Ho HongKong with me, Vivek Mahbubani
and the Co host you've been hearing all these weeks.
Who is? Yes, Muhammad Megdi taking the
back seat. Yes, I am back.
You are back. Yeah, I had my foot in my mouth
all these times I didn't talk because of that.
You. Couldn't put your foot on your
mouth literally even if you tried.
Very hard. Exactly.
I couldn't do it. Possible.
(00:42):
I couldn't do it now. Yeah, but oddly enough, I've
been given the green light. Well actually I've been always
had the green light to do to talk, but I couldn't sit in one
place and have my foot in one place for too long before it
like caused me trouble. I got messages, condolences and.
Everything yeah man, I can't believe it's the the RIP your Co
host and everything yeah yeah, Iknow.
So if for anybody who actually doesn't know, first of all, wow,
(01:06):
no concern you got no. Concern whatsoever they're like
all right we're just going to listen we.
Replaced the other host we're OKfine with well.
We had like a couple of brown people instead.
Yeah, we had the Kevin J Yeah, one time.
And I think I had someone else, Indian, maybe Ishan or somebody.
I don't remember anymore. Yeah.
But yeah, like I always had likea yeah, we need.
(01:26):
Yeah, literally a shady partner. He definitely was that.
Yeah, so it didn't feel that weird, except that no one went
on tangents like you, so yeah, so you.
Missed that. Yeah.
Everyone was like on par. You're like, we're going to go
aim for to go there and you end it over there.
I know, yes, it was very weird. That's a dynamic.
After a couple of times I'm likewhy is this going?
Yeah, exactly. Yeah, Like you actually
(01:47):
concluding you're like, well, that concludes today's session.
Like, like, wow, that's an obvious conclusion.
There's no twist. There's no M9 Shyamalan thing
going on here. OK.
There is no layers. Yeah, very straightforward.
No. Hey, what if you did this?
Yeah, stupid thing. Going to 20 minute, yeah, rant,
but you know, But I'm sure a lotof people miss that.
(02:09):
Yeah, let's go back to what the hell happened to you.
All right, let's do this historylesson time, everybody.
So here we go. I'm so.
Excited because we saved most ofthis, the details for the
podcast. Yeah.
So I genuinely don't know. You don't know the whole story.
All right, all right. So first of all, for anyone
here, obviously without without having to ask, this will
eventually come to a bit, yes. Obviously, of course.
(02:31):
But you're hearing it here. This is the raw version and I
purposely actually not sat down and worked at it for a few
reasons. Yeah, Number one, I couldn't sit
down and work at it, OK, So I had to keep my legs raised up
and everything. But the other one was, I was
like, you know, what I want to do is I want to talk about it as
just like a normal. The podcast.
First podcast. Listen back to.
It yeah, exactly that and then kind of put it all together as
(02:52):
like, you know, bit bit, bit, bit, bit.
All right, here we go. Ladies and gentlemen, let's talk
about what happened it. And the best thing is I know a
lot of the details that is so traumatic right where I'm like,
buddy, I know everything. Happens well I don't know you
obviously have edited like the episodes when we when I send you
the recording so I've. Heard a few of the openings
because I listen to the opening when you're mocking it.
He's still out of action. And every time I would like
(03:13):
change the slight different detail as well.
Yeah, exactly. But like the the the short
version that I know is that you're just, your life was too
good. Yeah, that's what happened.
I was busy and you had to take abreak.
You had to take a break. You're you're moving expensive
things. You have a cool girlfriend.
Yeah. Who are like helping?
I have a dream, help me chase it.
I'm like, what do I have to do? It's something risky.
(03:33):
I'm like God damn it. Yeah.
So, yeah, OK, tell us. Tell us actually.
Here we go, everyone. So what happens is little
background story, my girlfriend, she runs a pop up coffee store
every weekend at every weekend at Binge House which is on
Aberdeen St. across PMQ. Yes, so I've been there.
It's very cool. She's she's a professional
barista, but also very nice. And the the spot is cool.
(03:54):
Yeah. And she's very friendly and
chatty. So, yeah, exactly.
It's called Miss Magic Brew. You can go follow Instagram,
whatever, blah, blah. All right.
OK, so now I want you to really be picturing the sloppiness of
PMQ. Yes.
All right, We got that right. Aberdeen St. right now it's 10th
of August, 2025. Morning time.
Yeah. And she works, she does the Papa
every weekend, which means we have a huge 37 kilogram coffee
(04:16):
machine that we lug every weekend to that coffee shop,
right? And by we, I mean me.
OK, let's be clear about. This.
I mean she's also quite small, like in size.
Hey, that's not my. Problem I know no what I'm
saying is that I don't think sheis 37.
Kilograms. No, yeah, she's probably not
even that. She cannot just pressure that.
That's absolutely happening. Yeah.
So. So every every Friday basically
(04:37):
you have to help her like take it off our little shelf that we
have a coffee table shelf and put it onto one of these boards
and take it onto a van, take it over there, right?
And then we set it all up and everything.
However, the venue is 2 floors and for them to store the coffee
machine, they have to put it on the second floor.
Okay, so she does it on the first floor.
Okay Now the problem is this is that taking it upwards oddly
(04:57):
enough, anti gravity not too bad.
Yeah, OK. So I have done lifted up that
37K machine up the slightest. Stairs 37 is genuinely very
heavy. It's heavy.
And the problem is it's, you know, it's awkward shape.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Like 37 kilos in a on a dumbbell
at the gym. You're like, I do that.
That's how much I you've done. Yeah, exactly.
I'm like, buddy, this is something in front of you.
(05:18):
It's an odd shape. You're not exactly holding it
properly. And that makes it even worse.
Sure. All right, So Long story short,
Saturday. No, no, we want the long story
long. I'm giving the.
I'm giving trying to jump to thepoint I'm background
information. OK, Keith, I just want to enjoy
your suffering for as long as. Trust me, it'll get good, right?
So Saturday night I go there my I because Gloria, she's doing a
(05:41):
coffee stuff and everything right?
We finish off and I help her lift it to the second floor to
put on the little shuffle the. Store the store for the night.
Yeah, I see Yeah, because also the venue is also a bar, right?
Yes, yes, yes. So they so at night a big bar.
Correct. All right, now there's a guy
called Wynn over there, very nice guy.
And the last few times he has been able to help us bring down
the machine, I think twice already so far.
(06:03):
And he's like, yeah, I can do it.
I'm like, dude, this is really heavy.
Like the whole time I was like, this is not a good idea.
He said no, I handle it. So because I've seen that that
staircase, it's also really narrow.
It's narrow. It's yeah.
Two people it's like helping is really.
Way two people. It's one person.
Oh, he, he was doing it. Himself.
And I was like, dude. And I was like, man, are you
seriously Like, yeah, I've put alot of heavy stuff down.
(06:23):
OK, maybe you're familiar with it.
Sure. Sure.
Cool. OK.
So that night I was like, hey, I'll take it up, don't worry.
Thanks so much for everything. I lift, I take it up the flight
of stairs. It's basically it's AV shaped
stairs. So in other words, you go one
side of the V and the other sideof the V to the second floor,
right? Yeah.
I go up there and I remember putting it down thinking like,
man, that that was tough. I was like God damn, taking it
down is not going to be easy man.
Right. So you have not taken it down
those nails at that point, Yeah.I've taken it up a couple times.
(06:46):
I've never done down. Yeah.
And I was like, and when was. I'm sorry, I can't make it
tomorrow. You'll have to do it on my eyes.
It's cool. And I was like, you know, the
guy's done it. I think he's done it twice in my
eye. He seems pretty.
He's not like, hey, man, be careful.
Right, Right. Right.
Maybe I'm overthinking this, youknow, right.
So it's Sunday morning, I'm at home.
Gloria goes and goes, sets up byeverything.
I come join a little bit later and I'm helping to set up, stick
it up on the wall. Everything's good.
(07:07):
And then I'm like, all right, it's time to get the coffee
machine down. All right here.
I'm at the top. And I remember precisely.
I look at the machine and you dothe initial lift up, right?
And you're like, man, this is heavy, dude.
And she's downstairs, he's downstairs.
Yeah. And then she comes, comes up to
kind of like make sure I'm OK. Sure.
Then I'm, I'm gonna lift it overthere.
Just, you know, be near me in case anything happens.
(07:27):
You go by, right. Yeah.
So she's going down basically the stairs one step at a time.
And I'm following her with the with the machine.
That's dangerous as well, but. I was like, you know, at least
be there in case I kind of like, need a little hell agent.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Just like push back or
something. Towards me, Yes, exactly.
So I'm going down the stairs andthere's like that sounds.
Scary is it? Scary, right?
Yeah. And I and and the whole time I
was I told her I was like this is not a long term solution,
(07:49):
this is a temporary fix. Right, we figures you have to do
something. You know, I was like, this is
not something you do regularly. This is a risk not worth taking.
This is asking for trouble. All the stuff I've done.
This, I've said all of this. And all that stuff.
I mean, it's not a good idea. Yeah.
And initially when we got the machine, we did not know we had
to store it on the second floor. We thought we keep on the 1st
floor. It's all good, you know.
Well, we can also go a small tangent of like that machine is
a boiler machine. It's a boiler.
(08:10):
Which makes it really heavy. Heavy if you go back for the OG
listeners, if you go back to thedecent episodes and having John
on and all of that and we even went into details of what's the
difference between a boiler machine and and like now Decent,
for example and how they work ateverything boiler machine just
like really is it literally likethe the pressure comes from
(08:30):
steaming water yeah so the boiler itself is in it is in it
and it's so heavy yeah yeah, it's even it doesn't have water
exactly so you need. A lot of heavy space, yeah,
yeah. Yeah, the aluminum or whatever
material, yeah, all. Right, so here we go.
So I'm going down the stairs andI'm like, you know, kind of
going. You know what?
You don't go forward. You're going sideways.
You know, one step on the side. Yeah, I'm going down.
And I'm like, this is tough. But, you know, once you're
(08:51):
taking that first step, you're like, there's no going back.
Yeah, of course. You're going down.
You're. Going down, I have to get and
complete this thing. Sure, I'm going down, going
down, going down, and I get to like the last step.
The last step has a little awkward shape where it's like
triangular shape. And I was like, oh, it's a bit
wider, so I can take a little wider step to get my footing
over there. And that's where I made the
mistake. Can you see where your step I?
(09:13):
Could I could only see to my right.
I can't see to my left. So the, the the first foot I can
kind of see it's the following foot.
I can't follow. I can't see that right.
But it's kind of that width, right?
And I see the last step. It's like a little triangle
shape and a little bit wider. I think I can take a little
bigger step for that one. And the machine was just
awkward. Everything's difficult.
(09:33):
I go take that last step. Luckily, by that time, because
we were on the last step, Gloriahad a return.
Thank God it. Could have been much worse,
dude, yeah. Dude, let me tell you, OK?
Yeah, So I go down there and then that's the moment when my
foot goes takes the step and my brain said all right, we should
be landed fine, yeah, it's time to take the other foot.
Unfortunately, I was at the edgeof it, missed the like slid off
(09:54):
a bit. Yeah.
Then the right foot. Think of it this way, you know,
like for example, when you want to back slap someone with your
with your hand. That's what happened to my foot,
right, Right. So right foot goes back slap
kind of yeah, go. And the best thing is I'm still
holding the machine that time right.
So that means all the machine weight, 37 kilos on top of my
weight on one foot. Yeah.
Backhanded. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And I could precisely share a yeah right.
(10:16):
And I was like, oh shit, right. And I fall down, and then I I,
I. Was that like the immediate like
piercing pain or was it? Just that was just like a crack.
You could hear like a crack, crack, some crack.
So your brain probably hasn't registered yet.
Like the pain. No, no, no, whatever.
Just the. Crack.
Yeah, just crack, right. So I'm there and then the
machine, so slow motion, right, the foot crack like that machine
goes forward, hits the wall and lands on the floor, right, all.
(10:39):
Right. So machine is gone.
Machine is gone away. Yeah, it's not far.
It's like maybe one arm's lengthaway, but it's clear, right?
It's over there and my other foot land and the ankle, outer
ankle of my other foot hits likemaybe the ground or something.
I have no idea what hits right so.
Actually, I was curious about the other foot.
Yeah, yeah. How the fuck did?
You it must have. Because like I spoke to people
about it and they're like a lot of people, they're like, yeah,
we broke 1 foot before. How do you do 2?
(11:00):
How do you do 2? Yeah, so probably what happened
is like when I land on the and Ino more strength on my right
side. Yeah, I fall towards the left.
Yeah. And probably I have no idea
because I don't remember what itwas, but like the outer ankle of
my left foot might have hit the machine like a metal rod or
something. Just like it's basically ankle
going to bang with. So 1 is the actual twisting, the
(11:20):
other one is impact, yes. Right.
Yeah, yeah, OK, yeah, Alright. So now I'm on the ground, on the
ground, I'm on the ground with my back to the ground and
everything. And I'm like, yeah, Chloe is
kind of like doing the, she's doing the typical like, oh, why
did this happen? I'm like, I don't, I'm not
explaining why this happened, like gravity, right?
But then she I was like, just give me some ice and everything.
So I was trying. To so how?
How is your pain level at that point?
(11:42):
It was, it was tough, man. Yeah.
But I think like this. Year on the ground you're like
just give me you're going to solutions.
I'm just like, I'm just like, just give me that.
Just just please, let's just getthis done, You know, So my right
foot's getting all swollen. I can see that big lump of, you
know, swelling. I'm trying to press it down and
stuff. Left foot the ankles getting
swollen. Sit up and trying to.
I was lying down my back. So she's helping with your SO?
She went to get ice and everything, and I tried to put
(12:03):
ice, ice into cold this and that.
I'm like, you know what? Now remember it's V shaped
stairs. So we've done the first arm of
the V. You got to do the other arm,
right? And I'm like, you know what?
And it was painful. But this is the one thing I
think maybe I have been injured many times in my life, right?
That in these moments, that pain, I can bear it pretty well,
right? Maybe I've gone to whatever, I
don't know, whatever. Yeah, Yeah.
Or maybe I am into that kind of stuff.
(12:24):
I don't know. I.
Think it's a mix of both and used to do like like martial
arts and stuff like. I haven't done that, but I think
like just in general, like having gone through maybe weight
training, whatever. Yeah.
And stuff like that. OK, so now this is this is the
just step by step giving them details.
I'm not trying to be funny at the moment yet.
Kind of sorry. Right.
So I'm over there. And then she goes down to get
some other ice and everything. And that's when I'm like, let me
(12:46):
just get down to the ground and see if I can put weight on these
feet. Yes.
So just like a baby that likes to rub their ass, you know, like
a dog let us rub their ass. I go down 1 by 1 and I'm down
the stairs. I'm like, OK, you know, I'm
using my arms to kind of. Your left foot I'm.
Kind of using my feet just to pull myself.
It's kind of like doing a leg curl and you go one step down,
one step down. My arms are the ones holding the
(13:06):
weight and everything. I go down.
And then I was like, oh, man, this is this is tiring.
Yeah. And I remember I was like,
because I was like, I hadn't really had water at this.
Now I'm like, just give me a sipof water and stuff like that.
Yeah. I take a sip of water.
I look at my right foot. I'm like, you idiot, why would
you put your foot down? Yeah, Now it's all swollen.
Oh shit, yeah, OK. Shit.
Yeah, all the blood like, well, rushing down.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So.
(13:27):
Then I get to the. Luckily, there's no actual
blood. Like no, no, nothing was cut.
Yeah, nothing was cut. I was like, mind blowing.
I was like, it's great, right? First of all, moisturizer.
Fuck you guys, man. It would be fantastic stuff,
right? So I go to the finally go to the
first floor. I'm on the ground and I get like
these little stools to raise my feet up on them and I'm still in
the face going like, maybe it's just a sprain.
It'll be fine. Everything grows.
I know we should get it checked and everything.
(13:47):
I'm like, you know what? No, I think this.
Is the classic man. Yeah, like it's just like I will
go away. Yeah, I'm sure if I just put
some ice on it'd be fine. But sure, I'll do run a couple.
Of yeah, yeah, whatever. You walk it off home.
Yeah, walk it home, buddy. You know, it's all good, you
know, But she made a good point. She was like, all right, so how
the hell are you gonna go home? Yeah, I was like, oh, you're
right. I can't put any weight on either
foot. No, she can't.
I can put weight on her, right? And we can attack.
(14:08):
And you still have some stairs even at home, like just.
Yeah, yeah, into the building. Yeah, exactly.
Right. So I was like, fuck it.
So I was like, you know what, You're right.
You make good point. Let's get an ambulance, right.
No point now let's get an X-ray.Just check it out.
Right, right, right. All right.
So we're lying over there and that's when I start, like,
shivering and stuff, right? I think maybe that's when all
the pain started coming. Right, right, right.
Oh shit. You know, your body very caught
(14:29):
up after, like, sometimes. Yeah, you're in shock, right?
Exactly. Adrenaline and everything.
That's that. Adrenaline subsides.
Yes, and that's when the body's like.
Oh shit. Yeah, yeah, OK.
So that happened and I remember shaking, shaking, and finally
the ambulance people came. Yeah, now, obviously.
All right, so that's basically the the the painful Ouch kind of
version of the what happened, right?
Yeah. I'll do this.
I'll do the actual play by play.Yeah.
(14:51):
Then I'll give you the funny fucking interpretation that I
thought of after all these weeksof becoming better.
OK. All right.
So this is it. Like, so here I am.
I'm at the top of the staircase.Think I can lift this machine?
Yeah. Now, I'll be honest with you.
There was a moment of me going like, man, this is a bad idea.
Yeah. Yeah.
I mean, I feel like in a lot of scenarios people have ending up
in that situation. There is always something the
(15:11):
reflection of like, yeah, I knewthat it was a bad idea.
Yeah. But like my whatever it is,
yeah, ego sometimes just like you're overestimating your
strength, whatever it is. This is, you know, like how all
the time when I'm on the pocket,I'm like, guys, you know, all
these motivation take. And feel like that.
Fucking you fight through the pace, you know you don't give
up. You end you rest at the end, not
in the middle. That that right.
So I'm over there. I'm like, I'm like, dude, this
(15:33):
is this is a bad idea, heavy. And I was like, but no, Kobe
Bryant once said you and you don't rest at the middle, you
rest at the end. Right, right.
You're at the end when you're onyour back.
Yeah, yeah. I was resting, man.
It was pretty comfortable, right?
I was all these like David Goggins in the shade.
Be comfortable being uncomfortable.
I'm like, you know, fuck, you'reright.
Yeah. And I psyched myself up, like,
(15:54):
let's do this shit, right. And I go down the stairs and the
first step I took and I was like, Oh, shit, this is this is
very easily said. You know, how about I rest in
the beginning and not even at the middle or the end.
How about that? So I take the stuff like eyes
now or never, right? And I'm going down and I'm doing
once and once and once and what's up?
And then I remember the last step and I was like, Oh, good,
(16:14):
good, I'm there, I'm there. And your ego kind of I did it,
man. And I get the rocket and I'm
like, Oh, shit, I did it. I'm halfway there, right?
And that's when I missed that step, of course.
All right. So then you could imagine like
the slow motion of the machine flying out of my hand, but it
wasn't that far away. So it hits the wall and lands
right. Ironically, after we came home
(16:35):
and did checks and everything, the machine just like me, all
foot, all feet, broken machine still functional.
Just like you, exactly just likeme, the.
Brain is still working. Exactly.
You can do everything 100%. She tested everything so
everything functions perfect. It just can't stand up.
Probably I'm like, hey, hey, youknow, like, like.
You end up high 5. Exactly.
Like, like father, like coffee, you know what I mean?
(16:56):
Yeah, Yeah, I was talking machine.
I'm like, hey, yeah. Teamwork, you know, you make the
dream work, you know what I mean?
Oh, my God. So OK, I'm lying over there.
I'm like, going like, oh, this sucks, right.
And this is a thing because, like, you normally try to press
the swelling of your foot. Yeah, To press it down.
Right. Now that's the problem is that I
have both feet fucked up. I'm lying my back, both hands on
(17:17):
the feet. And basically I was doing, like,
a happy baby pose. Yeah.
Literally. Yeah.
So for anyone outside who walks past the coffee shop, you see
this guy on a staircase trying to do a happy baby pose.
So funny. And they're like, I guess it's a
coffee shop downstairs at Yoga City.
Yeah, exactly. I don't get like.
Mr. Klaus and he's like, I'm going to do it anyway.
(17:38):
I don't care, man. You can't stop the man.
Yeah. Or like just like someone went
for the stereotype, I was like Indian, of course he's doing, of
course you'll get the mid of theday.
Right. You know, yeah, this guy trying
to get buffed, right Ankles. Yeah, with all the swelling,
this is my muscle, I. Mean.
Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
He's like oh damn, God damn. This guy man, you know he's
skinny eyes, but those legs man shit, you know all right, so now
I'm lying I, I pull myself down onto the first floor area I'm
(18:01):
lying over there. We got to call the ambulance
right, right. So we call the ambulance and,
like, 9:00 and 9:00 and stuff like that.
Gloria tells him what's going on.
And then like, they're telling her, oh, tell him not to move,
tell him not to eat her. And she's like, oh, baby, I
don't move. I'm just, this is gonna be the
phone. Yeah.
So now I'm on the floor on my back, legs raised up on the
phone. So again, someone else has, you
know, like, the fuck is this guydoing?
(18:21):
You know what I mean? Like, what the hell is this shop
man? Like, is this guy a drunk?
You know, like. Because the shop is still open.
And it was Sunday morning. Yes.
They're like, this guy must havebeen drunk last night.
Yeah, right. Yeah.
And now and they tell me something, Sir, don't eat and
don't drink, you know, try not to move.
You're like, Oh no, I'm not. I'm not going to cancel my
brunch. Yeah, exactly.
You know, my food's on this way,Yeah.
Exactly. So I'm like, yeah, got it, got
it, got it. All good.
(18:41):
OK, then we get and then finallythe ambulance people come,
right? So they come with like the siren
and everything. They make a whole show.
So yeah, they probably did the siren when they got there and
they got there, they parked the thing outside.
These guys come in, He's always stretcher, stretcher.
They looked at me like, OK, we need a stretcher for sure.
Yeah. And then so they give me ice
packs, wrap my wrap my feet and everything, the standard.
(19:01):
They really know what's going on.
They are all. They know it's just like the
springs. Whatever.
Yeah, like, OK, Standard. Shit, Right?
To get me on a stretcher now, you must understand, is that for
them to lift me up, they have toput me under some cloth and
everything and lift me up like ababy, right?
Yes. However, here I am, like, dying
and, like, they don't have any more equipment, so my foot is
like, flinging all over the place.
Shit. Right.
(19:23):
Yeah. OK.
Get me on the stretcher. Stretch goes out, get me into
the ambulance right now. This is a true test of whether
those guys think you are an emergency or not, right?
So we get it over there. They look at me that like what
happened on my, you know, I fellover here, I twisted my feet and
everything like that. Like, OK, OK, how much is the
pain now? To be very honest with you, I'm
I've always. Loved that question.
(19:44):
Yeah, they love that one. Yeah, 1 to 10 or whatever.
Yeah. And like, The thing is, this is
that I've had a lot of relativeswho've always abused the system.
Like you can have a cold, like it's a 10.
It's like, don't do that, you know, Like it's not that bad.
And at that moment, I was still trying to like, you know what?
It's not like I'm not dying here, right?
I don't see any bones protruding.
I don't have a cut. So I'm like, you know what
probably it might be. Talking to you.
(20:04):
I'm not screaming, Yeah. You know, I was kind of shaking
still, but I was like, yeah, thefact that I can talk, I'm like,
it can't be that bad. So I was like, you know, I guess
like a six out of 10, you know, And they were like, OK, OK, they
looked at my foot, you know, that OK, Seems like a typical
space, right? I'm like, I find, you know, and
then we start going towards the hospital and they don't turn on
the siren, right? I'm like.
Yeah, it's not, It's not that. Urgent, not urgent, right?
(20:24):
So you give the wrong answer. Yeah, you know and see.
Like, hey man, stop for lunch, it's OK.
Yeah, yeah, exactly. You know, so we're driving and
everything. And the cool thing is while I'm
lying over there, I'm, I can seethe little window, so I can see
where we're going, right. So I'm like, we're going to
Queen Mary Hospital. Obviously that's expected
anyway, but I'm lying down, I'm shaking and stuff like that,
right? And I'm trying to calm down and
I'm like, oh, I just, I'm, I'm shaking like I don't know, maybe
(20:46):
I'm in shock and stuff like that.
You guys say no, just breathe normally.
You'll be fine, right? I'm like, I, I'm trying to, I'm
really trying to and everything all right.
He's so used to it, like he's like all kinds of.
Stuff. And The thing is that people
really do exaggerate their shit,right?
Oh my God, I feel like I'm dizzy.
It's like, are you really dizzy,Sir?
I just feel like you're dizzy. Right, Right.
Right. But I was like, dude, I'm really
not Bush. You can't control it I's.
Control it. I just like shaking and stuff,
(21:07):
right? I'm like, it's OK, you know?
I'm fine. I'll just breathe properly,
remember? Right.
OK. We go there.
We go there. And the funniest thing is I
could recognize all the trees and all the building out where
pop for them, right? We're over here.
I get it. I know this is Hong Kong.
You I get. It's good.
That you're also your brains trying to keep you occupied.
That is what that's what I was trying to do.
Right. OK, so we're over there.
They're driving, stopping at redlights, and like, God damn it,
dude, you know, like, come on. You couldn't actually request.
(21:30):
I'm like, yo, can you turn on the?
Side like, come on guys like come on, like you know you have
the power. Yeah, you totally have the
power. It's a Sunday, you're not really
stopping anyone. Let's just go, you know, right,
All right, So we go over there, we get to the emergency
department. Now this is the cool thing.
I had the stretcher, right? So they have to swap me to like
the hospital. But right, yeah, yeah.
So it's like one through. Thing I used.
To watch what is it ER. Oh yeah though.
(21:51):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Every episode has.
Like 1. Exactly.
And they always have what's going on?
What happened over here, Right. Yeah, Yeah.
And they're like, oh, I just fell down both ankles.
And the nurse said OK, whatever, right.
They pushed me into like, a little area.
Yeah, right. So that's when I was like, and I
was honestly feeling a bit better, like just knowing that
I'm calm now. I wasn't shaking anymore.
I't like, you know what? And I really was like, like, you
know, if it was rained. Yeah.
Yeah. I was like, if it's really a
(22:12):
fracture and shit, I'm sure I'd be in immense pain right now.
Right. Right.
And I was like, I, you know, OK,whatever.
It's cool. I forget that probably some sort
of childhood trauma makes this seem like nothing.
To me, yes, yes. However, I'm like, OK, and the
cool thing was I had that bed the whole time so I could kind
of lie down and. Stuff, right?
Yeah. So at least you're comfortable.
Yeah, you're not in that waitingroom sitting on a shed door,
right? Yeah.
However, this is a problem. I'm like how?
Do I pee? Oh no.
(22:34):
Right. I can pee.
Yeah. I'm like, it's cool.
I can wait. You know, If I really go, then
I'll say something. Hopefully see the doctor before
that. Obviously, ER, everyone know
what's going on. They're that.
That's a Spain. Well, he's not urgent.
Yeah, yeah, I'm like, fine. It's all based on your one bad
answer in that, yeah. Exactly that, and also they look
at me like ah well. You also got to remember why
your your relatives exaggerate. It's because of that shit.
(22:56):
Yeah, yeah, they know what to expect from like this
inexperienced idiot. Exactly.
With his honesty, his best policy bullshit, you know, So I
remember lying there and I was like, I was just being calm.
I was like, there's no point me freaking out and stuff like
that. I looked calm and the fact I
looked calm, they're like, I can't be that bad anyway, yeah,
I find whatever. And so finally I think around
SO. Gloria is not is not with you.
She's with me. She's.
She is with you. Yeah, because I had to have.
She was. Shut down the whole thing.
Basically, yeah. Oh yeah, she's just closed up
(23:17):
for like whatever, you know, Andthen so she did make a quick
post story, you know, not not open today, but about whatever.
So then I'm lying there. We're waiting And, and, and at
the same time, my mom is actually taking my dad for his
fucking hospital appointment stuff, right, right and not.
The same hospital. No, no, different hospital,
right? And I'll say, you know what?
Don't tell me anything. Let's figure out what's going
on. See, it might be a sprained
ankle. Wipe it out, right.
(23:38):
And there's nothing she can do. She can't come of.
Course. Yeah, she's with your dad.
Who is bullshit? Yeah, exactly.
Yeah. So all that's happening.
All right, OK. I'm lying there.
Lying there. It's an hour, hour and a half.
And then Gloria goes quickly just to get like a little bagel
of snack or something from Pacific Coffee.
We were both hungry. We hadn't eaten yet.
Sure. So every now and then, while the
nurses are not looking, I'm likewho?
Bite of the bagel, you know, Yeah, Something in me I thought
(23:58):
was really hungry. Of course.
All right, finally the doctor comes.
He's like, what's going on over here?
Does the typical touch your toes?
Can you feel anything you can feel?
That's good, you know? OK, we'll take you for an X-ray
and we'll see what's going on, right.
All right, so finally they take you're.
Still on the stretcher? I'm on the stretcher.
Yeah, right. Like they're bad.
They're. Moving.
Yeah, yeah, exactly right. So they take me to the X-ray
room. We got to wait for a bit and
it's my turn. And this is where like some of
(24:20):
the X-ray people, they're like they've seen everything that I
fuck, you know, movie like the movie like that way.
Sure. And honestly, dude, honestly, a
little part of me, a small part of me feels that the fracture
happened at the X-ray. No, when they were like being.
Moving a little here, yeah, a little rough and everything.
Did you feel like something like?
I I didn't feel it, but like letme like dude, like just just
just just just. Take it easy.
(24:41):
Yeah, you know, like I don't. I'm not trying to fuck around
here. Right.
Right. But it doesn't matter.
It is what it is. I sure did.
The right foot, left foot, everything.
I go back out. I'm lying over there.
Now. Initially the doctor told me.
Yeah, it looks like probably just a sprain, like severe
sprain. We do the X-ray just to make
sure. And then if it's all good, we'll
send you home. You'll be fine.
You. Just take take pain killers or
whatever. Whatever.
Yeah. I'm like, that's a good sign.
Yeah. He's saying good stuff.
I'm feeling good about it. I'm feeling good.
(25:02):
OK Do the X-ray. I'm still feeling good.
I'm all positive. He comes back.
He's like, bad news. Yeah.
And I'm like, all right. And what it is, He's like
fractures on both feet. I'm like what?
I'm like, dude, it's. Probably where all the pain
comes. Back like, oh fuck yeah, 11 out
of 10, yeah. Yeah, yeah, right.
Holy shit. Yeah, right.
So he's like, yeah, we're gonna,we're gonna take you up to the
ward. Yeah.
For them to kind of like observeyou and everything and see what
(25:23):
to do, right. I'm like, oh shit, shit.
OK, it's. Serious.
Suddenly. Yeah, of course you have like
work the next day you have all. This all this shit going on,
right? And I'm like, oh, fuck right.
So it was like around like 2:30 or three, 2:33 PM we go up to
the orthopaedic or whatever theyhave that, that ward over there.
Yeah, now I go in there. They.
This is all. Everyone is broken basically.
Yeah, it's broken bones, right. Luckily they pushed me in.
(25:44):
They got me like a corner bed because they're like, this guy's
not walking anyway, right. Right.
You have to be close to anything.
You put him in the furthest bed away, which I'm like, hey, I'll
take it. You know, I'm like, you know,
fine. And oh, oh, I didn't tell you
this. OK.
OK. So in the ER area, eventually I
was like, I got to pee. I really got to pee, right?
Yes. And of course, I asked for the,
you know, the little, little bottle thing that you pee into.
Yeah, I asked for that. I start peeing.
Yeah. Doctor's like what's going on?
(26:05):
What is going on? Yeah, and I'm like, I'm just
peeing right now. In a minute, right.
And he's like because like they have other.
Patients. Yeah, he's annoying.
No, right. So maybe that's why he's like
break his bones. Yeah, right.
So so we go to the ward. Yeah.
I'm like, I'm in the ward. I'm on the bed and everything.
We're waiting. And this is the cool thing.
The orthopedic, the the bone doctor guys come in.
Guy comes in, he's like, oh, bigfan.
(26:27):
Like what? Yeah, nice.
I'm like, no shit. OK, I'm like, that's cool.
I'm like, is it? Should I be happy or sad about
this? Right.
And then like, he's like, oh, what happened?
I'm like, it's nothing glamorous.
So this is 1 I appreciate the most.
Yeah, you didn't. Fall off stage or whatever.
Yeah, yeah. Everyone that has seen my
injury, everyone has given me a very nice guess of what they
(26:47):
think caused the injury. Skiing.
That's funny. Skateboarding.
I guess they're just bored. No, they're like, dude, this is
serious. This is.
Oh, I see. I see.
Based on the severity of it, yeah, this.
Was a big deal. And then it's you the the, the
disappointment when people were like, you did what?
You just fell off the stairs. I think this man, I tell people
I was carrying a coffee machine downstairs and I missed the
step. Right.
(27:07):
Yeah. Oh, shit.
The machine slammed your feet? Yeah.
Like, no, dude, no, it was just.Yeah, just my feet.
They're like, oh, that's it. Yeah.
And they're like, oh, I don't know how to react.
Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
They came with like, oh shit, yeah, yeah.
Oh my God. You get it out, you just so far,
it's like, you know, yeah. Like they see like Oh my God,
this result must be like a big issue with that.
Oh, I over. I was ready for.
(27:29):
Yeah, a whole epic story, yeah. This is a bit like go, OK,
alright, so Doctor see me. He's did.
Anyone go? Is the machine OK?
No one, no one cared. Yeah, luckily they were like.
That was my first. Question exactly like yeah, we
know your. Power is the machine now, yeah.
So the Doctor, big fan and he's OK we'll get you checked and
everything. 2nd doctor comes in and he goes oh you came to my
school to give a talk before. I'm like OK.
(27:51):
All right. This is so cool, right?
I'm like, OK, all right, now. Then they were like, OK, we're
looking at everything. It might be a fraction.
We might have to do surgery on your left foot.
Yeah, now only if my right foot was the one that's hurting the
back. Yeah, exactly.
Wasn't hurt. My right foot is supposed to
have more damage, right? So what happened is that the
left foot, the bone is cracked but it's semi displaced.
(28:12):
If it's displaced badly, it won't.
It won't heal again. Right, you need.
Oh yeah, you need to put it backin place exactly.
Yeah. OK.
So then that evening I got to doACT scan right Now.
Generally those are not something you can get very
easily at public. Right.
CT scans is like the one in the tunnel.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
On the tube thing, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Being Sunday, luckily the CT scan department doesn't have
outside patients for their regular check UPS.
(28:34):
So we got a, we got a preferenceof that.
And also maybe bone fractures. They time is of the essence
because in case it's bad, they're like, dude, we got to do
surgery. Yeah.
All right, so they did the CT scan.
The doctor comes back and said we had how?
Bad was it for you? Because I did it one time.
I had, like, an ear thing years ago when I was working in the
call centers. And that's when I realized I
have claustrophobia. Oh, Because like, you had to tie
me into the thing. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah, it was bad.
(28:54):
OK, OK, no, I don't see these sounds a few times away.
So I, I, I'm used to, I close myeyes and everything.
I used to have a whole bit aboutthis MRI thing that I before.
And so the idea is that I've done these enough where I'm used
to them have to inject the liquid, the, the, the contrast
liquid into you and everything. Yeah, this time because it's
just bones, no contrast, no injection or nothing, just feet
in the tunnel. I'm like.
Oh, just feet. That's easy.
OK, no big deal. Yeah, because it was years I had
(29:16):
like to go. Ahead, yes, instead your head
in. Right.
And then they had, did you applythat the thing where they do
that for kids? Yeah, they have a mirror above
you so you can see and then you can actually did it's it's
reflected on ATV in the room. Oh, so you can watch them?
TV you can watch and it's because it's only for kids.
It's actually genius because it's only for kids.
They're only, they're only playing Tom and Jerry.
(29:37):
But when you're looking, if you're standing in that room and
looking at the screen, it's actually sideways, so the
mirror, you can see it the rightway.
Yeah, it's super cool. Oh, cool.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a prompter.
It's a prompter. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah. So it's backwards.
It's backwards. Yeah, exactly.
And then? And of course, like when I'm
looking at it and it totally worked, like I was there for
like 5 minutes, why did not? Yeah, yeah, at all.
(29:59):
That's what they need. To do.
Yeah, it's so. Cool.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, No, for me forthis time was just feet in.
So it's quick, quick and easy. Got that done, went back to the
the ward, but of course by that time was the evening time
already. Yeah, so.
You're checked in. You're not going anywhere.
No, no. So it was really like surgery
this whole week. That's when you messaged me as
well. Yeah.
Yeah. That evening, yeah.
Yeah, I was already into like I got a message everyone be like,
dude, I have action for this week.
(30:20):
I'll let you know in the next few days, whatever, because I
was like the last thing I need to do is in the morning.
Oh, can't come today is like, you know, right, Of course.
All right. So I started messaging people.
Luckily my mom and guy came backand they brought my laptop and
everything. So I was like typing things up,
sending messages to everyone say, hey, this what's going on?
I'll let you know I'll update you later on.
And then then one of the doctorscomes in.
They put like cast on both my feet to keep it like in one
position. So we.
(30:41):
Still haven't decided on surgerythere yet.
No, they haven't because they'regonna see the CT scan and
everything and also the surgery starts because the week before
was the typhoon, so they alreadyhave a backlog of.
Surgery Shit, Yeah. They were like, shit, so we're
gonna. See how the period is?
Yeah. Yeah.
All right. So then now I have to go to
sleep that night. I'm like, it is what it is.
And think about it, you can't really turn and sleep on your
(31:02):
side. Yeah, you.
Can't. Yeah, yeah.
So I'm on the background. So they're obviously they tell
you like you can't move your feet at.
All you the cast holds. The cast holds.
Yeah, you can't move it, probably because the casts are
huge. You're like.
I just can't turn. So uncomfortable, So
uncomfortable. And I'm a side sleeper, yeah.
So I'm like, oh, fuck, this sucks and everything, right?
Yeah. And I'm trying to find every
angle possible. I'm like, ah, it's not working.
It's not the angle. Yeah, you can't even use your
(31:23):
like strength like on your arm to like move yourself.
You can, but like you gotta liketurn your whole leg and both
legs are very sensitive. So when you turn, how kind of
thing. But basically, and also it's a
hospital, so it's a little noisyhere and there, some lights of
salons like it's usual shit. So I remember at 4:00 AM, at one
moment I found this angle like, oh, this is good.
Found it. Oh shit.
(31:44):
Yeah. Yeah.
Close your eyes quickly. Right 6:00 AM Conj I don't like
fucking shut up, you know fine, I got so.
They actually come in and like yell out like.
So they like and lights go on orsomething like it's fine.
Prison. Yeah, yeah, it's prison, right?
I think it's fine, it's okay. And I got 2 hours is good,
(32:06):
right? And then that morning, so the
night before, they would tell me, oh, the CT scans probably
got to do surgery, you know, allthe surgery on the.
You're already preparing for the.
Worst. Yeah, the worst of my surgery.
Let's do this. Fuck man, it is what it is, you
know, Hopefully I'll hear. Yeah, public hospital like
you're not you're not thinking about money or anything.
It's. No, I'm not about.
Yeah, yeah. And to be very honest with you,
I really thoroughly love Queen Mary Hospital.
(32:28):
Yeah. No, they have.
Yeah, it's amazing. Amazing.
Yeah, right. If you put aside that the oh,
I'm not treated royally, right? I have to wait.
I put that shit aside. Dude they are so good at what?
They do, right? No.
Yeah. All right, so that morning, you
know, they're doing their roundsand everything.
Yeah. Before the doctor does their
rounds, you know, you're like, Ibetter sit up straight, you
know, be ready. They're doing everyone's rounds.
They skip me and I'm like, oh, shit.
OK. I guess.
(32:48):
Oh, what's going on? Yeah.
And then later on one of the surgeon guy comes that we
checked your CC scan, we had a discussion.
Yeah, it looks like the left foot displacement is not so bad.
So we don't think you need surgery.
I'm like, alright, this is fantastic.
Yeah, great. Can I just go?
Home. Yeah.
So I was like, well, that's great news, you know?
And then he's like, oh, and alsowhat we can do this afternoon,
(33:08):
we'll try to get you into an aircast boot and get the physio to
see if you can walk on your feet, if you can actually be
standing on your feet, at least with a Walker, obviously not
without anything, then you can go home.
And I'm like, dude, dude, whoa. Yeah, it's slow down.
I'm like. Dude, wait, just like 12 hours
ago I was like mentally getting ready for like eye surgery and.
How many months? Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
(33:29):
And now you're like, go home, dude.
I was like on top of the moon. And I'm like, this is what I
mean about like, you got to really like go through shit to
really appreciate the small things.
And I was like, OK, sure, whatever.
Right. Yeah.
All right. So they at 12:00 PM this guy
comes in to take me to the orthopedic whatever they do the
build the shoes and all stuff. So they put you in a wheelchair
or. Wheelchair.
No, they always in the bed. Because you just wheel it out,
(33:52):
yeah. Wheel me out, go take me down.
They put boots on. So they break the castle open,
put boots on and they send me back, right And I'm like OK, OK,
that's it, that's it, right. So these I'm sure everyone's
seen these kind of Gray colored boots, the cast here, everyone's
seen that stuff. Yeah, so both feet have it
because my right foot was way swollen.
They gave me a medium for the right and my left foot was a
small. I'm like, whatever, funny.
(34:12):
Yeah, funny, right, my guy, whatever.
So I'm lying over there. And then at around 2:33 PM, the
physiotherapy people come into the room for everyone doing the
exercise. They come to me.
They're like, you know, we're going to see if you can at least
walk a little bit and we'll see if you can.
So if you're standing like just holding your your weight up and
leaning on a Walker, yeah, yeah, then you're good.
Yeah, if you can just stand and take a few steps with the.
(34:34):
Walker, right? So at least.
You know you can walk, walk yes all right, so they were like
they gave me they showed the Walker.
I've never done this before. My feet are half broken anyway,
right and then on my eye. Let's do this right and I'm
like, I haven't got off this bedfor the last 24 hours right.
Actually I haven't touched the floor for the last like 36 hours
already. I'm like, all right, let's do
this right dude, I I try to get myself down.
I slowly get on the floor. I'm trying to hold on the Walker
(34:56):
and everything they're holding on to me and everything I hold
on to Walker. I stand up straight and dude,
you know, like how I think I have a certain level of
confidence. Yeah, you know, yeah, even the
situation. Where I'm like, oh shit, man, I
don't know, man. You know, I can still kind of
like, you know what? We're yeah, we'll figure it out.
Figure it out, you know. Yeah, you have very like
solution or. Yeah, I'm still like, you know
what, I will. I will get it done, man.
(35:17):
You know dude, that moment I stood up and my whole body was
like, Nope. No, yeah.
No, no, no, absolutely not. And I was just like, yeah, shit,
no, this is not happening, man. They're like, no, no, no, don't
worry. The first time is always
difficult because you haven't touched the phone with
everything. I'm like, dude, I'm telling you,
man, I I do not. My legs are just like they're
not they're. Refusing to Yeah, they're.
Refusing, like my gut's saying, like, dude, this is not good.
(35:38):
Yeah. They're like, look, we're
holding on to you. Yeah.
Just try like like. I have not had this level.
But they are really trying to like they push you as well and
maybe. You see, maybe everyone freaked
out, you know? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dude, I have not experienced this level of self doubt and I
don't know how many years, Right?
Right. So I'm over there.
I'm like, OK, all right, let's try this, right?
Yeah. So all.
You're trying to do is to just move your feet.
(35:58):
Yeah, that's it. Yeah, Yeah.
They're holding on to your standing up and your leaning
Walker, which you just need to move your feet.
Move your feet. So I know I can do it right.
Exactly. So I'm like, OK, just do it
right. And then like because at one
moment you have one foot on the floor, 1 foot not on the floor.
That's when it's like, oh shit, shit, you know.
So I try like you do the very tobe like that kind of thing.
So I do that. I'm like, OK, OK, that's one
(36:19):
little small step, OK, And I do the other one.
Yeah. Because obviously, as you're
saying, how we walk is that it is always one feet off the
ground. Yeah, Yeah, exactly.
That's when it's like really hard.
Yeah, Yeah, exactly. Because it's broken.
Yeah yeah, broken and also all the way goes on one side yeah
yeah exactly. And it's like that idea of like,
oh, it's 1 foot only, right? Even though my.
Couldn't you like, I guess cheatand like instead of lifting 1
foot up just like drag? Just drag, yeah, because like
(36:41):
these shoes have like a rubber base to help you with the
friction. Yeah, OK.
OK. But yeah, so I had my hands on
the Walker so I could kind of like lift myself up, but I'm not
trying to like lift it like. Sure, sure.
So I take one step. I'm like, OK, take the second
step. And dude, my confidence is
young. I'm like comfortable because
comfortable, you know, every back, you know, I, I didn't come
(37:01):
this far. I don't get this far, you know,
Like I was like, oh. Like Rocky, music is playing.
Like Batman, I was ready man. Now I have the tiger.
Just push them away. You're like, oh, I got this.
I was like, I was like where we going now?
Yeah. How far we going?
I like to that Channel. We got this.
Who wants to raise? Me.
Yeah, You know, no problem. That chair, right?
(37:21):
We let's do this, right. Nice.
And I'm like doing one step, butI'm not powering through.
Whenever we get to this the chair that I just sit down on
the chair, I'm like, no problem, man.
You know, I'm sitting down. What we do now?
Yeah. What's the next step?
Yeah. And they're like, no.
You guys want to fight? Yeah, yeah.
I'm like, what's the next challenge?
They'll bring it right. So you actually started like
walking Quote, UN quote, Yeah. Kind of like, you know, I was
like, it was a lot of mental game and I thought, oh shit, I
(37:43):
can do this, right? So I sit down and they're like,
now the next challenge is can you get up from a chair?
And my brain by the time was like, fuck you, man.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, get it from a goddamn chair.
I'll go back flip. Yeah, come on.
Shit. You know, And let me tell you,
man, have you ever gotten it from a chair?
But you can only maybe at best, use your tip toes.
That's not easy, man. Yeah, I know.
And these were like, soft, cushiony chairs, so you can't
(38:03):
even, like, press off the chair.I'm like, yeah.
But by that time, like, all thisfucking more diversity and shit
came in Nice. I'm like, no problem, man.
And I'm like pushing against theWalker, trying to pull myself
up. I'm like, let's do this.
I'm trying everything possible. And I get up.
I'm like, yeah. Yeah.
All right. And they're like, OK, now we're
going to go from here to there just to see if you can walk that
distance. I'm like, let's do this.
And I'm walking. I'm trying everything.
(38:25):
I look people who are on their best looking at me, I'm like
giving them like, yeah, man, I'm.
Getting applause building. Yeah, they're all looking at me
going like, like these guys don't give a shit.
That's like, this guy's walking.Yeah.
And I'm looking at them. I'm gonna like, look at my eye,
man. You know, you, you can do this
too. You can too.
You know, I'm doing the whole thing like that.
Yeah. And I get to the final spot.
I'm like, all right, we're good.We got this, right?
They're like, OK, good. They.
Need to sign off or like basically.
(38:46):
So they know, OK, he can at least go from A to B, right?
So if he's at home, he can stillgo from A to B, right?
And they're like, so do you havestairs in your home?
I'm like in the flat, obviously no.
But in my building I have three stairs.
Like, all right. For that, you have to learn the
crutch. Yeah.
These are crutches. I'm like, let's do this shit.
Crutch training, yeah, crutch training, right.
So we go out, they will meet outside because they're like, if
we walk her outside, we're goingto be here till tomorrow.
(39:08):
So they're. Like just faster.
Yeah, we get it. You can walk.
We got it. I'm like, I could do it, man.
You know right. You're.
Like sit the fuck down. Yeah, exactly.
All right, So they push me out and you have to go to like the
the lift area because that's where the stairs are.
Yeah, However, they have, I believe like maybe 10 stairs at
a go. They're like, look, you can try
learning how to do the stairs, Yeah, but you have to go to all
10 and come back down. Yeah, because you're not gonna.
(39:29):
Yeah, that doesn't make sense. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Stop and come back. Exactly.
OK. OK.
So I was like, I got this shit, man, you know?
So they pull me up from the wheelchair and I'm with the
Walker, and they're all right. Now we're gonna have to learn
how to walk. Walker's easy because you're
just leaning. On it.
Yeah. You're leaning and it's very
stable. Yeah.
Yeah, Right. So here I am.
They'll argue. I do the clutches.
Now, this is where The funny thing happens.
So the the physical therapist said, all right, OK, when you go
(39:50):
up, you start with the good leg.And I look at him, I'm like,
buddy, yeah. I have bad news for.
Him. Yeah.
And he's look at me and he's like, and you can see in his
eyes like the textbook never taught me.
Yes, exactly right. And he's like, go with the
better leg. Yeah, I'm like, I have no idea
which one it is, but whatever right now.
I'm like at that point I'm kind of psyched up.
I'm I can do that now. The walk is very stable.
(40:13):
The crutch is not not Yeah, it's.
It's. Pointy.
Yeah, pointy. And you're like your arms and
everything. And I've not used it before, so
I'm like, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So here I am. I got to keep the crutch down
and then like basically get the foot up and then you have to
take a step up. Now this is where the challenge
is because that good foot uses some force.
Sure. So now I'm like.
Oh shit. Yeah.
What's going to propel your ass?You need the force.
(40:35):
Exactly. Yeah.
So then we reverse. It doesn't matter how strong
your arms are, you still need that, that force push up.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So then we flipped around.
He's like, OK, I tell you what, let's lower the crutch a bit and
you put the crutch up so that way you're leaning.
At the crutch and you. Pull yourself up.
So it's a very light force from the other leg.
Yeah, OK, We tried that. I'm like, OK, I think we could
do this, right? Very scary, though, because,
like, you fucking fall. It's over.
(40:56):
Yeah. And I was like, how's it going
on? They're holding you and they're.
Holding me, making sure it's allgood.
We go up all 10 flights upstairs.
You did. I did.
I did. I need to go home, man, you
know, right? So we do that.
I'm like, OK, OK. What's next?
What's? Next they're like, we're gonna
go back down now. Yeah.
I'm like, oh shit. And the PTSD comes.
Back. Yeah, I was gonna say.
That's like oh shit. You're staying down that stairs
(41:16):
again. Man, Yeah, yeah, you have that
now. And now you're having a higher
risk of falling. Yeah, yeah.
Now this is a challenge. My crutches go down one flight
of stairs. I'm leaning forward.
Yeah. And I have to take the step
down. All right.
Yeah, this is terrifying. Right.
For anyone who's worn an air cast boot, you will know that
the air cast is designed to keepyour foot at a 90° angle.
(41:37):
OK, now when you. It doesn't matter how you try to
move it, it just stuck. It's because it's, it's a hard
thing, of course. Now try to do me a favor.
The next time you go down a flight of stairs, notice how
your foot does not remain at 90°angle.
The foot behind you that goes, that's still on the upper stair
dorsiflex, in other words, kind of bends forward so that the
ankle bends forward, the angle becomes smaller, and then you
(42:00):
can put your other foot down. Otherwise you can't move
forward, right? So here I am going like, and
they're like, OK, try to use thebetter foot.
The worse foot goes down first cuz the crutches are down first,
right? And I'm like, I can't even get
my foot in forward and I'm like, what the fuck's going on here?
And then I realized I cannot bend my ankle.
Yeah. And they're like, shit, you
can't bend your ankle. I'm like.
(42:20):
Yes, that's essential for going down the stairs.
Yeah, you know. And now you're all the way up
top of the stairs. You can't just, like, airlift
you. Yeah.
Yeah, yeah. OK, this is fucked up.
Yeah. So then they're like but.
Actually, you don't need to go down the stairs to go home.
Exactly. Yeah, that's why I told him I'm
like, well, you know what? Even if we just kind of cheat,
yes. Yes, it's fine.
They're like, yeah, because you can't go out on my buddy.
(42:40):
I'm not fucking. I'm not.
Yeah, exactly. I go up and that's it.
That's it. Until for the next few weeks,
Yeah. Are they going up by Nadu?
Going down to top? Can you please?
Yeah, just let me go. Yeah, yeah.
Then I know you still got to go down.
We can't just lift you down, right?
I'm like OK, and is. There no like exit from the
whatever for you know. It's again it's it's AV shape.
Oh shit, fucking. That's what the PTSD thing.
I was like, oh shit, you know, all right, so.
(43:02):
Now you're literally just stuck again and you need to go down.
Yeah, Oh man. So then they were like, all
right, how about this, You know, have you ever seen old people
when they go down flight of stairs, sometimes they go
sideways. Yeah.
They were like, how about you try that?
Yeah, I'm like, true. Because then that way I can bend
my knee and the other foot goes down.
Yeah. So we tried that.
But now I've got my crutches. I'm gonna.
I'm twisting my body. Yeah.
So my body's kind of like at a night.
(43:23):
Can you? Just give them the crutches and
then they they hold you. They were like, we just need to,
yeah, we're there. You won't fall and everything,
but you still got to do what yougot to do, right, man?
Yeah. So I do that one moment.
I'm like, oh, this is really tough.
I'm like, yeah, fuck, dude, thisis insane.
And I was like, there's no way in hell this is going to work if
I have to do it again, Right, right, right.
We get down, get in the wheelchair, everything.
They're like, all right, so we want to ask you, how do you
(43:44):
feel? I'm like, I'm telling you now,
I'm not going down the flight ofstairs when I go home, right?
I'm not leaving my house. That's not there.
This is too traumatic already. Number one and #2 there's no
need for me to go out, of course.
Yeah, you know, whatever, It doesn't matter.
Luckily you're yeah, you're, youhave an elevator and everything.
Yeah, Yeah, all that is fine. Yeah, and that.
Was only like 3 steps downstairs.
Yes, going up three steps, right.
And I was like, dude, it doesn'tmatter.
Yeah, they're like, OK, if if you are OK with it, we're OK
(44:05):
with you, we can let you go home.
All right, so then I messaged mymom and every time, hey, we got
I go home and every time I can just come whenever you can pack
up and everything. Now, obviously the hardest part
is that they tell you can go home, but they got all the
processing of paperwork and everything.
Yes, which again is fine. Finally at around 7 something.
Audi you wait for a while. Until yeah, you gotta wait.
Yeah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah, yeah.
I know that medicine. Yeah, yeah, whatever, right?
(44:25):
But there's no real. It's just painkillers and shit.
But whatever, it doesn't matter. So we waited.
They came pick me up. OK, now we leave and basically
we leave. We rented like a little
wheelchair temporarily to go to the taxi stand and we we rented
crutches and a Walker to take home.
Luckily I knew to rent it beforehand because like they
close at 5:00 PM I'm not. Going to get it.
I can't go home, right? Yeah.
(44:46):
So we rented it. All good.
OK, I'm like, OK, we're cover. We're cover, right?
Then we go to the taxi, take a taxi, we get out of the taxi and
I have first of all, getting on the taxi.
I was like, ah, I don't know howto get onto a taxi.
Yeah, because you know how it's.A different thing now.
Different thing. Yeah, yeah.
And it's not like a regular stair.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Luckily Gloria and my mum were
there so that I could kind of lean on them and kind of fall
into the taxi and. Everything.
(45:06):
They're both quite small, not just here, but as you know, your
mom. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So a little here, a little there.
OK. So then I get into a taxi and
I'm sitting there and I'm like, OK, we'll go home.
We go home, we get out of the taxi and I have, you know, the
footpath, they have the, the, the, the roadside.
There's one little step you got to do from the road to that
thing. I'm like, OK, I got a taxi.
It's super tough because I, I can get out of there.
Yeah. I can't put my feet and
(45:28):
everything. And I get out and we do the
little crush thing. And at that time I have to use
my mom and everything to help meout a little bit to stabilize
me. I get on, we do the Walker.
Dude, it took me like 5 minutes.Yeah, from the taxi stand that
thrown me like 20 seconds away. Oh my God.
Yeah, 'cause it's like walk, walk.
Yeah, walk. And I'm like halfway through, I
was like. I'm so like your arms are also
(45:49):
getting tired. Arms, yeah, but the legs were
like, I was like, dude, this is yeah, tough.
Man, but all you're thinking of is just the bed, right?
Yeah. Once I'm in bed.
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, you know, and I was like, OK, so we get to the building.
I try the whole crush technique doesn't work.
And now eventually I'm like, dude, you know what?
I got my mom on one side, put myarm around her.
Yeah. And I was like, just let me push
against you guys, right? So I know there's a stable body
(46:10):
with the crush. I'm going to stabilize her.
I'm like, dude, I really, I'm not used to it yet.
I don't know how to do. Anything.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We get into the the house, we
get into the building. Of course my guards like, whoa,
what happened? Right.
And of course that's when all the neighbors happy to come
home. Of course I should have like,
whatever, right? We go up there and I'm like, OK,
let me just go to the toilet. At least, you know, get it out
of the way. 01 more thing. We bought one of those the
(46:32):
peeing bottles. Yeah.
Oh, dude. Godsend dude.
Yeah, they're really good. They're really good, right?
So then I go to the toilet and everything, I feel good.
I'm like, OK, I got the toilet, I'm cleared up.
But obviously, like, yeah, also like, shuffling to the toilet,
like, super slow, yeah. Yeah, like even just to sit down
and everything, I was like, I can't cut the talk's a bit low
and everything. It was tough.
I had to get my mom and everything to help me out.
And then I go lay on the bed andI'm like, OK, I'm fucking home.
(46:56):
Yeah, thank God. Right.
And so unfortunately I had to have dinner and everything on
the bed. They would obviously sit with me
in everything, but I had to do that.
And I remember they're gonna just, I think I'm home.
Yeah. You know, I just want to be
home. Yeah, I remember that moment.
I'm like, dude, I 24 hours ago Iwas like surgery this night and
I'm home. I'm like, God, I'm so fucking
grateful. Yeah.
And I made no announcement, everything because like, I don't
need pity. I don't want all that shit,
(47:16):
right? Yeah, of course.
And then finally it was like, I think the next day of the day
after that. And then that's when I was like,
ah, you know, I better say something because I'm sure
eventually someone will say. Yeah, yeah, you had gigs and
everything. Yeah, yeah, You know, and I was
like, how many people keep telling I'm just going to post
that this what happened? And I was in good spirits by
then. So I started making fun of it.
You know, this fucking idiot, that and all that shit.
And then that's when that's whenI was like, Oh my God, I never
(47:37):
knew how many people. So many people, yeah.
So many people yeah immediately look at Instagram stories.
I posted it within 2 seconds. Yes, get well soon.
Broke up. What happened?
All that shit. Yeah, dude, no.
People I I people. I think it's also it depends how
often you post stories as far asI understand.
So if you don't post as often and you don't, it puts it up in
(48:00):
the front. Oh, really?
Yeah. OK so it's like oh this person
posted. Oh shit, you bet you should.
See it? Yeah.
So you're saying people reached out dude?
Ronnie Shank messaged me. Yeah.
At school. Okaska called me.
What? Yeah.
That's amazing. Yeah.
Yeah. Whoa.
That is so cool. Right, yeah, good messages left
by and said I'm a God damn dude.Shit, you know, I mean, is that
what it takes? Yeah, exactly.
To hear back from you guys. Yeah, you know, but no.
(48:22):
After like 5 messages in like hihow are?
You not? Yeah.
Happy New Year. Nothing.
Nothing like get well too and all that.
Yeah, OK, fine. You know, yeah, no, but it was
it was I was like, dude, this istoo fast of a response.
Yeah, I was like messages Bing Bing, Bing, Bing, Bing, Bing,
Bing. I'm like whoa, whoa, that's
amazing. But I was really grateful that
message each Western math. Of course I'm feeling better
this. Yeah, yeah.
But I was like, oh shit, this isinsane.
Yeah. And then like people like, and
(48:44):
then the FAQ, what happened? What happened?
That's when I made another post.OK, let me What happened?
Let. Me tell you, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I did that as well. Refer to my Last Post.
Please. Yeah, exactly.
So a lot of that I did one in Chinese, one in English and the
Chinese one I was like saying, you know, hung on people like to
see people. PK Yeah, I'm a professional.
Yeah. So the no how we would like to
laugh at people. PK Right, right.
And this is the this is the the division between an amateur and
(49:05):
a professional. I break both feet.
I remember I did that for the Chinese one and English.
I forget what I said, but anyway, I was joking about it.
How? Oh, this this 42 year old
thought he was 24 and I walked like an 84 year old.
Some of that I did. Yeah, something like that.
Yeah, Yeah, yeah. No, but like I mean from you're
saying 10th of August and now we're recording on the 2020
eighth of September, September. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's pretty
(49:28):
the end of 7th. Week, yeah, it's pretty good
like you would open the door andlike you already went out a
couple of. Times I went so on the 25th of
September, it was my birthday and everything and that was
like, yeah, OK, so on the 11th of September I had my X-ray.
So that would be like 4 1/2 weeks time of my injury, right?
Yeah. And I had my X-ray thing and I
told everyone look for anything before that cancel for sure.
(49:48):
Anything after that I'll still cancel it because I want to give
like a six week period. Sure.
I'm like, dude, I'm not risking this shit, right?
And but I did tell people who were like, let's say end of
September, I'm like, look, 11th September, I get my X-ray.
If you're interested, you can wait and I'll let you know
immediately. But if not, I totally
understand, right? How can I make this work for
you? I find replacement.
I found you for helping some of this stuff.
And so I was like, how can I make this work?
I don't want to ruin your gig for you, of course, but I can't
(50:11):
do it, you know? So 11th September comes and then
I go there, we do the X-ray. The doctor tells me the good
news, that, you know, yeah, you can get the boots.
Off. Yeah, you.
Guys start doing physiotherapy and everything.
I'm like, this is great news. This is what I want to hear.
And the challenge really honestly was when you get the
boots off initially, you're justso like.
Whoa, yeah, you don't know. Yeah.
(50:31):
And these? Feet are stuck in the same
position for the last month. Yeah, I could take the boots off
to clean and I can move it a little up and down, but it's so
minor and my foot hasn't touchedthe floor in the last like 6-5
weeks. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So I remember the first day I put my foot down.
It's like coming back from space.
Yeah, I was like, what is that feeling?
Yeah, right. And on top of that, your nerves
are all quiet. They're all sleeping and
(50:52):
everything. So it's really awkward.
And I remember, dude, it was like, initially it was so tough,
dude. The, the, the fascia of your
muscles and everything, like, God, God damn.
Yeah. So it's one of those things
around like every day, honestly,in a weird twist, every single
day has been a very happy progress.
Yeah, like the day I could actually stand up.
I'm like, Oh yeah, the day when I actually for the first time
(51:16):
from my from the bedroom to like, let's say the the toilet,
I could do without a crush. I'm like.
Yeah, and you're not leaning on the wall or whatever?
Yeah. The first time I could stand up
and shower, yeah, I was. Like, it's so cool.
It's so. Insane.
All the small things we take forgranted, right?
Absolutely, man. You know, And it was one of
those things where I was like, whoa, oh, shit.
I can like now when I want to goto the get my printer and get a
(51:38):
sheet of paper, I don't have to wait for someone to come back.
Yeah, I can do it. Oh, my God.
You know, And like, you know, me, I'm like the control
frequent. I don't like asking for help and
all that. Of course.
And like the last few weeks and I'm like, oh, I just gotta wait
for them. When they're free, they'll give
me my laptop. Like I can't say anything other
way. Yeah.
Now I'm like, you don't want to be the guys like hey, bring me
my laptop. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm like, no, no, they're busy. You know, they can wait and
everything. Yeah.
So that's the thing. And honestly, that it's, it's a
(51:58):
weird feeling, like every day when this progress, I'm like,
OK, this is a good feeling, man.Yeah, I can do it, you know, so,
and I remember 25th September, again, birthday aside, whatever,
I had a school gig in Fanling and I went there and I, this is
The funny thing. I've been to that school before,
right? These kids have seen me before.
Right now you're on crutches. Yeah, so I entered.
The school hall from the main entrance.
These kids are already there sitting.
(52:18):
Yeah, I see this guy in crutcheskick.
You walk in there, right? It goes the stairs even slower.
The kick, kick, kick, kick up. And you're now doing stairs like
a pro. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm doing it with crutches, everything.
But I get there and I have to take a little sit.
I was like, just give me a minute, right?
Give me a minute, right? And then I have to go to the
center and stand and do my show. They gave me a table to lead
against. Yeah, but they put the table too
(52:39):
far back, right? And I'm like, fucking doesn't
matter, right? And I was like, you know what?
Let's just see if I can do this, right?
So I stood there, did the whole hour standing.
Wow. And I just wore the crutches.
No, no crutches. Oh, damn.
I just the whole hour. Yeah, the whole hour.
Standing didn't. Mean anything wow just with
shoes on yeah, I could do this right it was really tough my
foot was like oh this hurts right but I was like this is the
muscle training I need to. Do.
(53:00):
Yeah, that's really good. Yeah.
Yeah. So I did that and I was like,
this is good, this is good, Yeah.
And then I did that stuff and then I came back home and I that
was that was the win for the day, right?
Yeah. Then on the 26th I had a charity
event at Hong Kong Club. Yeah.
And here's the twist. My mom is flying out of Hong
Kong on the 26th, so I go with her taxi to Airport Express.
And then I'm like, you know what?
I'm going to try to crush my wayto Hong Kong Club from Hong Kong
(53:20):
station, right? It's like up and down and up
and. Down, but it's all sloppy and I
was actually, I could do it. We did it.
We got there. I'm like good.
I did my gig. It was tough, but I was like,
OK, I could do this as well. Too few hours sitting, standing,
sitting down. I'm like that's good.
Saturday I had a talk at ChokingMansion.
I did over there, they have a whole flight of stairs.
I can do this, right? I did that.
I'm like this is good. Also crouches.
Also crouches right? And then today I had to do a
(53:40):
workshop as well. I can do this as well, Meifu.
I did that as well. I'm like, all right, this is
good. Yeah.
You know, So I was like, OK, every day I got to change myself
a little bit further, right? However, to be honest with you,
every single day, at the end of the day, my foot is swollen.
That happens. Right, right, right.
And there's nothing you just time.
When it's time, yeah, Yeah. So it's still tough.
I'm still not walking properly. As you saw just now.
I'm walking very calmly, very slowly.
(54:01):
Yeah, Yeah. Because like, a lot, I got to
relearn how to walk and everything.
And this is the weird thing, like the coolest thing is that
everyone who's hurt myself like 2 feet, wow, shit.
And in many ways, it's really made me go like, yeah, you know
what? Small things are good enough.
And people ask me, dude, how areyou so optimistic?
Because I remember how it sucked.
Yeah, when this happened and howmuch progress you have, Yeah,
(54:21):
Yeah, how much you can do right now exactly.
So I mean, it is crazy that yeah, like within the span of
six weeks, avoiding surgery is really.
Big. That was a big thing, yeah.
Because that was obviously, like, take way longer.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then you probably have like
fucking metal and everything. You have like a pin or something
like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So that's gonna. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
So, yeah, I mean, that's, that'sawesome.
(54:42):
Yeah. The fact that you're also like,
we're travelling in a couple of weeks.
Yeah, in the middle of October I'm flying to Canada.
To tell people where what your where you're going.
To and Vancouver to do my Cantonese tour that I've been
doing nice. Middle of October I'll be there
and then end of October, 25th October I'm going to London to
do my show over there as well. And then I come back.
And so the whole thing was like I was counting down because like
all the gigs are happening now for me and I'm like, you know
(55:03):
what, I think I can do them, dude.
I can only say that I'm so grateful for all the gigs.
I have people that work with me,maybe I've worked with them
before. They like me and everything.
Everyone has been super accommodating.
I've had even literally the gig that you did, she was like, if
you want to sit in a wheelchair and do that gig, we are OK with
that. I'm like, no, no, no.
Let's not do that, right? Yes.
But everyone has been like, dude, if you need a high chair,
(55:24):
if you need this. That's so cool.
We don't mind. We get it, you know?
Yeah. So I was like really grateful.
I mean, people know it's not obviously you being a.
Diva Yeah, yeah, exactly this happened, man.
Nothing. Yeah.
There's nothing you can do aboutit.
Yeah. Yeah.
On the Patreon, we'll talk aboutsome lessons like, yeah, yeah,
some of your, your wisdom comingout of that experience.
(55:45):
But yeah, we've had the obviously a lot of stuff over
the last few weeks. But now it's time for Vivek to
take over with the gigs. Yeah, I'm gigged out, man.
Yeah, People know from all the all the stuff that we've talked
about the comedy. Season and stuff like that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was a lot like actually just
last time, 24 hours. I was headlining at Base Hall
and that was like the last show of the season.
(56:06):
So we'll talk about it another time.
But you're the one who has, like, a lot of cool stuff
happening. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
obviously around the whole. Time of the world, exactly of
the year. So yeah, you have that.
But yeah, So what you go throughnow is exactly like after I did
my Australia tour and everything, I'm like, dude, I'm
gigged out. Yeah, I'm so tired.
I want to do another show. Fuck that.
Yeah, yeah. After the tour, I did my the
Jimmy Yang, my solo show and Jimmy Yang.
And that's when I was a fuck that.
Yeah, I need a break. Now, Yeah.
(56:27):
So right now, right now, that's where I am.
Yeah. Yeah.
So I'll be next week, I'll go toVietnam for a few days just to,
like, clear my head and, yeah, stare at the ceiling.
And then, yeah. And then.
But we'll be recording a couple of episodes before that as well,
so we won't miss any more episodes.
