In our previous episode, we caught up with a former guest to talk about his own mental health journey this year. Well in today’s episode, we’re keeping up with the #MentalHealthHustle as you meet Katie Miles. Katie is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who offers individual, couples, and family therapy, and she is also the co-founder of HabitBetter, the website & app that is designed for building life-changing habits.
Katie helps Daniel and Michael unpack the YEAR that has been 2020. A year that many could sum up in one word: LOSS. No matter where you may be listening to us from today, we’ve all been going through an extremely difficult year. At the time of this episode's release, over 283,000 people have died from the coronavirus in the United States, and worldwide we have lost a staggering 1.54 million people. Locally in Los Angeles, on December 8th we had over 10,000 new cases confirmed, the highest number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Many of you haven’t been able to see your closest friends or family as you’ve made the sacrifice of not seeing those you love to ensure their safety. Perhaps you are one of the many thousands of people who have lost their financial security due to the sheer loss of jobs in this country, and for many, the loss of that financial support means a loss of purpose.
Katie Miles shares how we can cope with this sense of loss and how to navigate transitional periods. She then clarifies the differences between grief and depression. Our co-host Michael Lutheran revisits his experiences facing depression after sustaining a head injury during Season One of HHP, and Daniel shares his observations of the growth that has been made. Katie Miles then shares news about the website and app she has helped develop with her brother, Sean Miles, called Habitbetter - "the premier learning institute that turns centuries of research...into approachable courses for creating habits to meet personal goals."

Cardiac Cowboys
The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
