Speaker 1 (00:17):
Hi and welcome to the
Recovery Christian.
This is Suzanne, and today weare going back to one of my
absolute favorite Psalms.
This is Psalm 91, verses 9-14.
If you make the Lord yourrefuge, if you make the most
high your shelter, no evil willconquer you, no plague will come
(00:37):
near your home, for he willorder his angels to protect you
wherever you go.
They will hold you up withtheir hands so you won't even
hurt your foot on a stone.
You will trample upon lions andcobras.
You will crush fierce lions andserpents under your feet.
The Lord says I will rescuethose who love me.
(00:57):
I will protect those who trustin my name.
When they call on me, I willanswer.
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honor them.
Doesn't this paint such a vividpicture of God's steadfast
shelter and safeguardingpresence?
The unwavering protection theFather offers us begins with us
(01:18):
making him our dwelling place.
We need to choose him every day.
When we deliberately andpurposely choose the Lord as our
refuge and shelter, evil cannotoverpower us and plagues cannot
come near our dwelling.
It's a powerful assuranceoffering solace in times of
uncertainty, a testament toGod's relentless shelter and a
(01:41):
wavering presence in our lives.
God commands his angels toencircle us, to shield us
wherever our steps may lead, andI just love that.
They are assigned to lift us up, ensuring that even our feet
won't stumble against the rocksof life's challenges.
His angels protect us whereverwe go.
(02:02):
What a beautiful portrayal ofdivine guardianship, empowering
us to conquer what once seemedinsurmountable, symbolized by
treading upon lions and cobras, triumphing over the fiercest
adversaries, including our fearsand our pasts and our
addictions.
So why does God extend suchprofound protection?
(02:23):
Well, the answer resoundsthrough eternity.
He says I will rescue those wholove me.
I will protect those who trustin my name.
That is a promise of rescue, apledge of safety for those who
place their trust in him.
He assures us that in momentsof trouble and there are lots of
moments of trouble when we callupon him, he will answer.
(02:46):
He pledges his presence, hisdeliverance and his honor upon
our lives.
He offers us a long life andsalvation if we just call on him
.
Calling on the Father is such asimple thing.
So why don't we do it all thetime?
Why do we always try to doeverything on our own,
(03:07):
struggling and striving, workingso hard to make our problems go
away and set our world back toright.
We can never do it on our own.
Too many of us are trying andit's just a big ol' mess.
There's a meme that always makesme laugh so hard because it's
so true.
It shows a man peeking around adoor and the caption says
(03:27):
something like this is mechecking up on the things I left
to God?
Hey, god, just checking on thestatus.
Isn't that exactly what we domost of the time?
We pray and decide to let goand let God, and then we keep
checking in.
We honestly cannot help it.
It's our human nature at work.
Letting go and letting God ishard.
(03:49):
It takes trust and faith thatGod actually will hear and will
act.
As hard as it is.
This is what we absolutely needto do.
Give it to Him, love Him, callon Him, let Him answer.
His timing is not our timing.
His will is not our will, butstill he knows our needs, our
(04:13):
desires, our hurts and ourhearts.
He knows.
Let Him work in your life.
Take Him your refuge, yourshelter, your safe place, and
let Him abide in you and for you.
There is not one single thing Ican accomplish on my own.
Anything I can do better thanhe can.
(04:35):
Let's just stop trying to beGod.
Let's ask for help andprotection and call on Him for
everything we need.
Let's pray, heavenly Father, westand in awe of your unwavering
protection.
Thank you for being our refuge, our secure shelter in the midst
of life storms.
Strengthen us with your abidingpresence and cover us with your
(04:59):
shield of protection.
Guide our steps and grant usthe courage to call upon your
name, knowing that you arefaithful to answer.
Be close to us today and everyday.
In Jesus' name, we pray Amen.
As we navigate the winding roadof recovery.
Let this assurance be ourcompass and our comfort.
(05:20):
Know that God's protectivewings are wide enough to cover
every fear, every doubt andevery struggle we might face.
It's big enough to cover ourstumbles, our setbacks and our
doubts.
Let's carry this promise withus as a beacon of hope, sharing
it with others, embodying thelove and protection God has
(05:41):
lavished upon us as we continueforward.
May His unwavering presence beour strength, his unwavering
protection be our shield and Hisunwavering love be our guiding
light.
May we walk in the confidencethat God's loving hand is upon
us, shaping our recovery andleading us toward restoration
(06:01):
and renewal.
