This is a podcast where I read you my novel, Home, Life, and OCD. It’s a personal story—from a small town in Iran, through a lot of confusion, failure, and unexpected turns, to becoming whoever I am now. It’s mostly about living with OCD, the messiness of love, the weight of expectations, and the quiet chaos of everyday life. Family, friends, anxiety, and memory all show up. You might also get a glimpse of what life in Iran feels like—but that’s not the point. The point is ordinary things: love, money, depression, OCD, and the endless, low-grade drama of being alive.
In this chapter, I share one of the most intense OCD episodes I've experienced—triggered by a minor traffic incident and spiraling into days of fear, doubt, and obsessive self-interrogation. While Taban was building her tech startup, I was trapped in a mental courtroom of my own making, trying to prove I wasn’t a criminal. This is a raw glimpse into the quiet violence of OCD—how it hijacks the mind, distorts reality, and leaves...
After running into Taban years after their breakup, the narrator falls back into a complicated romance—now more intimate, yet still shadowed by doubt. Between love, suspicion, a corrupt workplace, and the harsh realities of post-grad life in Tehran, he navigates betrayal, military service, and the slow unraveling of youthful hope. A chapter about love, exile, friendship, and the quiet collapse that leads one to leave home for good.
...In Chapter One, I open with a reflection on what it means to write about Iranians—especially in English. But that doesn’t last long. Soon, we fall into a quiet, obsessive love story that sets the stage for everything that follows.
