Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey friends, welcome
back to another mini-sode.
What did you think of thisepisode with Michelle Nizat, the
host of More Than a Songpodcast?
I can tell you I enjoyedrecording this and I also
enjoyed listening to it againwhen it came out.
If we're being honest, I havehad a struggle with Christian
(00:21):
music lately.
It's kind of a love-hatesituation, I guess, and perhaps
that makes you gasp.
You're like, oh no, a Christianwho doesn't like Christian
music.
What is going on here?
But hear me out.
If you listened to season two, Idid a deep dive talking about
various problematic Christianmusic or Christian bands ones
(00:43):
that are deconstructing, onesthat are talking abouting, ones
that are talking about gospelsthat aren't actually gospels.
I included some worship musicand during that time I learned a
lot and because of that I havehad a struggle trying to find
music that I know I can trust, that I can believe that what
they say they mean.
(01:03):
Because when I listen toChristian music in the back of
my mind I'm wondering do theyreally believe what they're
singing about?
Or are they just singing thisbecause they know they can make
a buck off Christians if theyjust label themselves a
Christian and sing it, andperhaps that's terrible for me
to think and I'm not trying tojudge.
(01:23):
I will lay that out there, thatI'm not trying to judge,
because I will not tell peopledon't listen to them.
I just give them the facts thatI have learned and the things
that I have learned and you know, whatever they choose to do
with it is their own business.
These are just thoughts that Ihave and they're sincere
thoughts because, honestly, Ihad a lot of Christian music in
(01:44):
my life.
That was all I could listen tobefore, when I was younger, and
even still my parents wentdeeper and it was only Christian
girl music.
So I grew up in the Christianscene in the 90s and the early
2000s.
I listened to all of it.
I listened to worship musicfrom Elevation and Hillsong and
I listened to all of it.
(02:04):
I listened to worship musicfrom Elevation and Hillsong and
I listened to Cademan's.
Well, I didn't like Cademan'sCall, but sometimes I listened
to them.
Avalon and DC Talk Delirious, everything I listened to it.
Jeremy Camp, all these people, toby Mac these were my things,
these were my jam Newsboys, allof it, whatever you can name.
(02:25):
I probably listened to it.
I grew up listening to that andit stuck with me In my mind
when I was going through 2020and I was seeing people
deconstruct, I never thought itwould be Christian artists that
were also leaving the faith, that were doing things that were
wrong.
I didn't think it could bepastors.
I didn't think it could be anyof this.
So when I noticed that theywere doing that, when they were
(02:48):
going away from the faith, whenthey were celebrating pride and
transgenderism and things likethat for different artists, this
all blew my mind.
I was very devastated.
It was like my idols fell, andthat's the problem, right there
is that they were my idols.
Through listening to MichelleNizat's podcast, I have found
(03:10):
good biblically-based songs andI have found new ways of
studying the Bible.
I have also found new ways ofstudying my Christian music,
which is important as well, because we are getting
ministered to through the musicwe listen to.
Right, I mean, even if it's notChristian music, let's put it
in a worldly, secular musicperspective.
(03:31):
You're learning values throughthe music that you listen to.
Why would you not think thatyou are also doing that through
the Christian music you'relistening to?
You can't just blindly believethat just because they say
they're a Christian artist orthey're playing on K-Love or
whatever Christian station youlisten to, that they are safe
music for you to listen to.
Look at the values they putonline.
(03:52):
Look at the songs that they'resinging.
Is it biblical?
Not everything has to literallycome from the Bible, although I
love music that does that, which is why I like the Corner
Room but if you're listening toa song that's talking about God,
you better make sure that theyare talking about the God from
the Bible, the Jesus from theBible, that they aren't putting
(04:13):
in their own doctrines fromthings they've heard out in the
world.
You have to know that it'sbiblically based, and that is
why I love Michelle Nizat'spodcast.
So if you have not had a chanceto listen to it yet, I strongly
suggest you start listening toMore Than a Song podcast.
I'm on their mailing list.

(04:33):
I listen to every episodebecause I am looking for good,
solid, biblically sound musicthat I can listen to with my
children, by myself, because Icannot live without listening to
music that gives God the gloryI notice in my mornings.
If I'm not spending time withGod through music or through
reading the Bible, I am ahormonal wreck the rest of the
(04:55):
day and I am not fun to bearound, even for myself, but I
can't get away from myself.
So I hope you have learnedsomething from this.

has on her website and justfigure out how to use it to put
(06:03):
into your daily walk when youlisten to your music, but do it
with this one song first, sothat you get an idea of how it
works, and then you can startimplementing it into everything
else.
