Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey friends, welcome to the second to the last
episode of season four.
I'm so glad you are here forthis explosive episode.
If you tuned in to this episodebecause of the title, I am sure
you are listening to this withyour pitchforks and torches in
hand.
But before you hunt me down, listen to the full episode.
I am sure what I have to saywill surprise you.

(00:21):
If not, you can hunt me downlike I'm Frankenstein's monster.
I get it.
Sometimes hearing someone comeagainst something we love is
hard.
This wasn't an easy episode forme to record.
I dreaded it because I know howbeloved this show is, but
sometimes we must do difficultthings to help people see the
truth.

(00:41):
Before we start, stay tuneduntil the end of this episode to
hear some excitingannouncements about the podcast.
Let's get to it Before theepisode starts.
Make sure you follow the showso you never miss another
episode.
As I mentioned before, I havedreaded diving into these topics

(01:06):
I plan to discuss today, because I know they can be hot
topic buttons, even more so thanthe yoga episode was.
But alas, here I am kicking andscreaming, ready to share my
findings with you.
So let's get started.
If you haven't been livingunder a rock.
I am sure you have heard of oneor more of these Reiki

(01:27):
Enneagram, the Shack JesusCalling a Christian Ouija board.
Yes, you did not hear thatwrong.
I said a Christian Ouija boardand the Chosen, okay.
Okay, I can hear you right now.
Oh, what is wrong with her?

(01:49):
Why is she bringing the chosenin with those other things?
That may not be good?
Or maybe you just see all thosethings and you have no idea
what is wrong with them, asidefrom the Christian Ouija board.
Are you kidding?
That whole phrase is just wrong.
We'll dive into that a littlebit.
It does not need a whole bunchof talking about.
Clearly, if you know anythingof what a Ouija board is,

(02:11):
putting Christian in front of itis just wrong.
Anyways, I have done a lot ofresearch on everything I'm going
to talk about.
All the links will be in theshow notes so you can find all
this information.
Do some digging yourself andget involved in the conversation
.
If you don't agree withsomething that was said, there's

(02:34):
two links in the show notes.
Leave me a message or leave mea voicemail.
You can send me something andtell me what you think.
Please do it in a nice, godlyway, because, again, I did not
really want to do this episode, but I feel I would be remiss if
I did not take the time to talkabout these things in a season

(02:58):
where we're talking about issueswithin the Christian faith that
are culturally and spirituallywrong, within the Christian
faith that are culturally andspiritually wrong, so it would
not have been wise of me to letthis go unnoticed.
We're going to start with theeasy one, which, as I said, is
the Christian Ouija board.

(03:19):
Christian Ouija board yes, thisis a thing I have placed the
link to where you can find it onAmazon.
Please do not buy it for anyreason.
I am not endorsing you to buyit.
I just want you to see thatthis is an actual thing.
I am not entirely sure if it isa troll, but it is a thing you

(03:39):
can buy, and I really didn'tdive deep enough to see if the
person who made this is trollingChristians or people in general
, mocking or whatever.
I really have no clue other thanthe fact that this is called a
Christian Ouija board.
Here's what it says as theproduct description, and it says

(04:05):
the Holy Spirit board cananswer all of life's most
important questions straightfrom the man himself.
It's a huge 12 by 18 game boardwith beautiful artwork
featuring the crucifixion andthe angels of heaven.
It's beautiful gold magic crossplanchette with metallic neared

(04:27):
finish.
It's perfect for churches, prayer groups or just getting
together with friends.
Unlike other spirit boards, this one will never contact evil
ghosts or demons, so you canask your questions with an
assured sense of safety.
Does that not sound like atroll?

(04:48):
But this is something you canbuy on Amazon and even if it was
a troll, it's still a Ouijaboard.
I have heard some horrorstories of what has happened
when people use those.
It is a demonic tool, so wouldyou really want to buy it and
find out if it was a troll ornot?
Hopefully the answer to that isno, all right.

(05:10):
So that's enough of thatweirdness.
We're going to move on to JesusCalling and the Shack.
These are books.
The Shack is actually a movieas well, but they're both books.
I have read a little bit ofJesus Calling, but it's been a
long time.
I never read the Shack, neverwatched the Shack.
It just didn't seem interestingto me.

(05:32):
I've been listening to DoreenVirtue and for those who have
listened to some of my pastepisodes, you've probably heard
me mention her and what she does.
She used to be a new ager.
She used to be into psychicthings, witchcraft, all the
things.
So she knows a little something, something about what you
should and shouldn't do inregards to the spiritual world

(05:55):
and realm.
So you should follow herchannel on YouTube if this is
something that interests you alot.
She's very knowledgeable in allthis.
So she starts an openingstatement for one of her videos
that I listened to about JesusCalling in the shack, and the
video is called Proof that JesusCalling is New Age.

(06:17):
She says the Jesus Callingbooks is a Trojan horse that the
devil uses to deceiveprofessing Christians.
These books make you feel warmand fuzzy, but they are not from
Jesus and they are not biblicaldevotionals end quote.
She goes on to mention how theauthor, the late Sarah Young,

(06:39):
had sincerely believed that shewas channeling Jesus.
But, as Doreen Virtue pointsout many times in a lot of her
videos, channeling is a very NewAge sort of thing.
It's a witchcraft form, it'ssomething that psychics do, and
she also points out in thisvideo how these books have dark

(07:02):
and demonic New Age beliefs andare similar to some New Age
books she used to channel whenshe was in those practices.
So again, she knows her stuff.
She knows what she's talkingabout.
She mentions so much in thisvideo.
The link will be in the shownotes if you want to listen to
what she has to say.

(07:23):
She also talks in the videoabout how Sarah Young had Bible
citations at the bottom of eachpage, which you'd think would be
good news, but it's not, andDoreen explains, quote if you
actually go to the Bible andread those verses, you see that
they have little to nothing todo with that Jesus calling page

(07:46):
and their channeled message.
That's crazy.
She's just throwing Bibleverses out and apparently not
taking the time to look at theconnection between what she's
saying Jesus channeled to herand what the Bible actually says
.
We can't be so blind that wedon't recognize the deceptions.

(08:08):
We have to know what the Biblesays and understand it for
ourselves.
We can't just trust that peoplewho have Jesus on the front
cover or talk a good game aboutGod actually are telling us the
truth.
You can see deception.
Sometimes it could be right inyour face and you don't know
it's deception.
So this is really crazy, scarystuff she says.

(08:33):
Quote the Jesus Calling bookstwist scripture and contradict
what Jesus said in the gospels.
End quote In the words of thelate great crocodile hunter
Steve Irwin Danger danger,danger.
Sorry, I used to be a big SteveIrwin fan.

(08:55):
Side note I was very sad andheartbroken when he died, but
let's not get off track here.
She continues, quote Shockingly, sarah Young also significantly
changed what her so-calledJesus said in the original Jesus
Calling book In the later bookprintings, following criticism

(09:18):
about her inaccuracies.
End quote.
Isn't that a little suspiciousto you?
She changed some stuff, but Ithought she was hearing a
channeled message from God.
If that's the case, you're notsupposed to change it.
I mean, go back to some of thepast episodes we had the ones
with Chad Wagner where he'stalking about the prophets and

(09:40):
that they had messages.
You're not supposed to takethings out of context.
You're not supposed to add orsubtract to the word of God.
If you're claiming to be aprophet and somebody who's
hearing from God, you shouldprobably stick to what God said.
You should not change it justbecause you got criticisms.
So that is highly suspicious.
In my book Now, doreen goes onto mention that she realizes

(10:02):
many people, mostly women, haveemotional attachments to this
book.
Why, like I said I've read it.
It's been a while, but when Iread it it felt a little too
gushy mushy for me.
Jesus is meant to be our God,not our spouse, and the way she
was talking about him in thebooks just felt a little too

(10:24):
mushy-gushy.
Like some of the worship songswe sing.
They sound a little tooromantic for me to sing to my
heavenly father who died on thecross for my sins.
He's not my boyfriend, he's myGod, he's my savior, he's my
everything.
I love a good rom-com, but notfeaturing Jesus as the main

(10:44):
character, and I don't want tobe his love interest in that
sense.
That's not how he loves us, notas a boyfriend-girlfriend
situation.
Doreen says about the emotionalattachments, quote my issue is
that many women are gettingtheir theology from Jesus
Calling rather than the Bible, are getting their theology from
Jesus' calling rather than theBible.

(11:05):
Each page offers a devotionalgiven as if it was Jesus talking
, end quote.
Nothing should ever take theplace of reading the Bible.
If you have not figured thatout, that that is the topic du
jour for this whole season sofar, let me lay it out plain for
you right now Nothing shouldever take the place of reading

(11:26):
our Bible for ourselves.
It is the living word of Godand you should treasure that
above anything else that youread, period.
Now, if you have never readJesus Calling, don't, you don't
have to.
I'm saving you time.
You don't have to read it Ifyou have.
Think about how many times thegospel is shared and when it

(11:47):
talks about how sinful and inneed of a savior you are.
Oh wait, oh wait.
Yeah, that's right, it doesn'tdo that.
Oh, I forgot.
I'm so sorry, guys.
It's very annoying and veryterrible that people are not
sharing the gospel in theirbooks that they claim are coming

(12:08):
from Jesus.
The gospel is Jesus.
Jesus is the gospel.
So why are they not bringingthat up, that we are sinful and
in need of a savior who died onthe cross for our sins?
Why does it have to be supermushy, gushy, lovey-dovey?
You're an awesome person allthe time.
You don't need to change.

(12:29):
That is wrong.
It doesn't make sense to me,and this book is really a
man-centered theology.
It's toxic and it's a rampantthing.
That's all over the place.
We are led by feelings, ourexperiences and affirmations and
we have no business saying thatwe are enough because we are
not, and this book teaches thatyou are enough, that Jesus loves

(12:53):
you, which is true.
But if you read it, does ittell you that you need to repent
for your sins first?
Does it tell you that you havesins, that you have need for a
Savior and that if you don't askHim into your heart and don't
repent, that you will go to hell?
Does this book tell you that?

(13:14):
From what I read, no, All I gotwas mushy, gushy, lovey
feelings and made me feel allwarm and fuzzy inside.
And that's not what the gospeldoes.
The Bible cuts through swordand spirit, bone and marrow.
It's a gnarly concept ofgraphic violence.
It's not a pillow fight with afluffy pillow and you're sitting

(13:38):
there giggling and laughing.
That's not what it is.
That's not how the Bible issupposed to hit.
That's not how the gospel issupposed to hit.
It's supposed to hit us in away where we realize our need
for a savior.
All right, moving on to theshack, in this part I'm going to
be referencing the video thatDoreen Virtue did with Pastor
Chris Quintana on YouTube.
It was called False Christ ofthe Chosen, jesus Calling and

(14:02):
the Shack, and I know they justlumped the chosen in with Jesus
Calling and the Shack.
But stay tuned Again.
I'm not discussing the chosenquite yet, we're just sticking
with the shack for right now.
She starts her discussion aboutthe shack by summing it up,
quote it makes a mess of thewhole Trinity, end quote.

(14:23):
Why would you want to readsomething that's going to do
that?
Why would you want to watch amovie that's going to confuse
the truth?
Pastor Quintana says, quote thesame thing we see with the
chosen happens with the wholeTrinity in the shack.
It took a step further andplayed games with gender, making

(14:46):
them so unbelievably folksy.
It robbed them of who and whatthey were.
It should have been the ringingbell that people looked at and
said something was wrong, butpeople just let their guard down
end quote.
Okay, like I said, I neverwatched the Shack.
I never read the Shack, so I'mgoing off of what they said.

(15:09):
As people who have read it andprobably watched it.
All I'm going to say is readyour Bible, know what the
scripture says and exercisediscernment about the books you
read and the movies you watch.
If it does not paint thecorrect picture of who the
Trinity is, why would you careabout it?
I know I'm kind of just givinga little rundown of all these

(15:32):
different things.
Again, all the links toeverything that I am referring
to is in the show notes.
They go super in-depth on eachof these topics but I don't have
that kind of time with thisepisode.
I'm just giving you a littlebit of the meats and potatoes of
it.
So if you want the fullenchilada meal deal, you're

(15:52):
going to have to do some diggingon your own in whichever
subject you choose to deal with.
Now we're going to go on toReiki, and again I reference a
lot of Doreen Virtue for thisand also some of Melissa Doherty
, who was involved in NewThought and thought for a long

(16:13):
time that she was involved inNew Age until she realized it
was New Thought.
If you don't know what NewThought is, that is a whole
different pony.
I'm not going to ride that onetoday, but you can always go to
Melissa Doherty's channel, findone of her videos and she'll
talk about it.
She just wrote a book about itas well.
So Doreen and Melissa have avideo they did together several

(16:37):
years ago.
It was called quote whyChristians Should Avoid Reiki
and Energy Healing.
End quote.
Doreen Virtue was a Reiki masterwho taught courses in Ireland
and California.
Reiki courses involve beingshown quote unquote secret
wisdom.
Doreen says it appeals to thesinful nature of humanity.

(16:59):
This desire to know somethingspecial that you think is hidden
wisdom is not available toeveryone Now.
Reiki uses energy to heal people, but what source do they draw
it from?
They have abstract symbols.
Doreen reminds us that Jesusnever used symbols to heal.

(17:20):
Reiki energy sessions arerepetitive.
Doreen reminds us that Jesusdidn't model that for us.
He healed people and that wouldbe it.
Look at all the differenthealings that Jesus did.
He said it, it happened.
End of discussion.
They didn't have to come backand get another healing Now, in

(17:40):
this video, melissa Doherty askswhat are the symbols for and
what do they represent, andDoreen says they are gateways
and door openings for differentlevels of Reiki energy.
Doreen mentions how she feltpulsating energy while she was
practicing this and she followsup with quote where is the

(18:01):
source?
If it's not from God, then it'sfrom what is not God, which is
the devil, and I wouldn't trustit or recommend it.
End quote.
Chronic healing and chakraclearing are two examples of
different modes of energyhealing.
When you do Reiki, you try tovisualize your healing, which is
manifesting, and word of faithmovement which, as you already

(18:24):
know if you listen to theepisodes with Chad Wagner and my
good friend, desiree Taylor, these things are not good to be
practicing and this makes youtrust in yourself and your body,
which is a form of idolatry andworship which, if you've read
the Bible, read the TenCommandments, these things are

(18:45):
no-nos, big no-nos.
So, yeah, the Bible does notask us to heal ourselves.
We are told to ask Jesus forhealing.
He is our healer, he is oursavior, he is our everything.
Apart from him, we can donothing that includes healing
ourselves.
All right, let's move on to theEnneagram.

(19:06):
If you have done this before,I'm not judging you for that.
I am simply sharing informationthat I just recently learned.
These are things that I havejust started scratching the
surface of, or just learned orunderstood, within 2024 to now
2025.

(19:27):
Okay, so this is not like I'veknown this all along and I'm
judging people who have donethis.
A lot of the stuff that wetalked about throughout this
whole season so far, I have done, I have been involved in for
many years and I'm just comingout of it, okay.
So do not think I'm on somehigh pedestal here, judging you

(19:48):
for anything, because I am notat all.
This is not what this is.
This is meant to help you.
These are things that I wish Ihad known ages ago so I could
have been out of a lot of thisstuff before and not been in
legalistic bondage to them orany sort of bondage to them.
I want to be free in Christ.
That is what I want for you too.

(20:09):
So that is why I am doing this.
No judgment if you have donethis, if you don't agree and you
keep doing what you do, you'vegot the knowledge.
Do with it what you plan to,but that will be between you and
God.
I am not here to judge you ifyou have done any of these
things.
So I mean, ages ago, when I waspregnant with one of my

(20:30):
children, someone came in.
This was way before I even knewwhat Reiki was.
But they came in and said, doyou want to have Reiki while
you're in labor?
And I was like, okay, whatever, maybe it'll help.
I had no idea what it was, didn't feel anything.
I was still in a lot of pain,so, but that was ages ago.
That was like probably four, four children ago, three

(20:53):
children ago, I can't remember.
It's been a while.
But yeah, so I am not judginganybody for any of the stuff
that you have may taken a partof.
All right, with that disclaimerout of the way, we are going to
go into the Enneagram.
Doreen Virtue has a nine-minutevideo on YouTube called, quote,
why the Myers-Briggs is just asbad as the Enneagram.

(21:17):
End quote.
She discusses her reasons formaking this claim and explains
why she doesn't like theEnneagram test too.
So if that is something you areinterested in, again, the link
for it will be in the show notes.
You can listen to the wholething, but here's a little
snippet of some of what she saysabout the Myers-Briggs test.
That's what we're talking aboutfirst, and then we'll go into

(21:38):
the Enneagram itself.
Doreen Virtue says, quoteself-glorification turns the
spotlight on ourselves and noton Jesus and the gospel.
It also came out of an automaticwriting and the occult by a man
who boasted that he got themessage from channeling spirits.
He didn't even care.
He was contacting demons andspirits.

(22:01):
He was open about it, end quote.
That's your Myers-Briggs testfolks.
The guy clearly states that hewas channeling demonic spirits.
For that information, and forthose who don't know what
automatic writing is, I don'tknow enough about it.
I know it's an occult practiceand I followed Jen Miza, who is

(22:23):
a former psychic, and she saidshe did a lot of that kind of
stuff too.
You can find information aboutthat.
I'm sure it'll tell you.
But just be careful whereyou're going to get that
information, because you don'twant to get sucked into anything
like that.
People turn to the Myers-Briggsas an alternative because of
their issues with the Enneagram, but Doreen says quote

(22:45):
Myers-Briggs is just as bad, maybe worse than the Enneagram.
End quote there's a whole bunchmore to it.
It's a nine-minute video.
If you really want to know more, feel free to listen.
It was a very good andeducational episode, but I can't
focus all on that.
So one of the problems withMyers-Briggs and Enneagram is

(23:06):
that you can see the questionsand answers according and you
answer according to what youwould like to be rather than who
you are, which, if you've evertaken any sort of personality
test, I think we all have donethis at least once you know like
what Harry Potter house do youwant to be in.
That's an example that I'mgoing to use.

(23:27):
When I was into Harry Potter, Ireally liked Slytherin, and I'll
tell you the reason why wasbecause I found the guy who
played Malfoy very handsome andthat fueled my whole desire to
love Slytherin.
So I had Slytherin clothing, Ihad Slytherin whatever I could
get.
But whenever I took apersonality test that said, what

(23:48):
house are you in, it was alwaysGryffindor.
If I answered according to whoI am, and that always irritated
me, I was like, oh, I wouldrather be a Slytherin Guys.
I was doing this, I was anadult, what's wrong with me?
Anyways?
So I would change my answers tothe way that I knew I would get
into Slytherin, which, for themost part, those things were not

(24:10):
things that I would even do.
But that's what that means youchange what you would answer
according to what you would liketo be, not who you are, which
means it's not really tellingyou your personality or anything
.
Is it?
Because it's fake, doreen tellsus the Myers-Briggs background

(24:31):
quote.
It's not a psychological testthat was born in a lab with a
committee of behavioralscientists and tested on the
general population.
No, it is actually based on anoccultist and heretic Carl Jung
End quote he believed inmythracism.
Okay, again, if you really wantto know all that stuff, I'm

(24:57):
going to give you a littlesnippet of things, but you're
going to have to listen to thewhole nine-minute video because
she goes more in-depth than Iactually can.
Who is Myers-Briggs?
You probably don't know whothey are, but you probably think
they're scientists.
And you would be wrong, becauseKatherine Briggs and Isabel
Briggs, myers, are mother anddaughter.

(25:17):
Catherine was a farm woman.
She wasn't trained inpsychological tests, didn't go
to a university and didn't gothrough behavioral science
classes.
She was a self-studied CarlJung Spiritual Psychology Books
enthusiast.
There's more shady informationon this but again, you're going

(25:37):
to have to listen to the video.
If you want all that juicy tea,all right, let's go into the
Enneagram.
I will be using quote theEnneagram exposed end quote by
YouTuber and former psychic JenNisa.
I just mentioned her in thissection because it's a long form
podcast full of a lot ofinformation.

(25:57):
So again, you're going to haveto go digging yourself if you
want more than what I'm going togive you In this video.
She was joined by MarshaMontenegro, who is a wealth of
knowledge about the Enneagram.
She goes in-depth explaininghow she got all this knowledge,
but I believe she also mighthave been New Age as well.

(26:17):
The Enneagram is used bychurches, christian
organizations, christianministries and just employers in
general, who have started usingit as a reliable method for
determining personality traits.
But what is the Enneagram?
The Enneagram started as ageometrical design.
Is the Enneagram?
The Enneagram started as ageometrical design and that is

(26:39):
all.
In 1916, george Gergiev, Ithink that's how you say his
name.
It's not ancient, it's onlysince 1916, so it's not like oh,
super old or whatever.
It doesn't go back toPythagoras or desert mothers and
fathers, etc.
It's false.
All the different things you'veheard of how old and ancient it

(27:03):
is, it's false.
It didn't exist before 1916.
So let's pop that bubble rightnow.
For anyone who has saidotherwise when it first came out
, it had nothing to do withfinding out about your
personality or your strengths oryour spiritual gifts.
George was an esoteric, whichjust means obscure, secret

(27:26):
teacher, who had a following, made a lot of claims, but none
of them were ever verified orthey never existed.
He taught that we were allasleep and we had to awake to
the new man, new consciousness.
It sounds like new agebuzzwords and that's because
they are.
The Enneagram was a tool forthat.

(27:48):
So if that doesn't stop youfrom using the Enneagram, let me
continue.
This video also said that theyshow the rhythms of the universe
.
This man believed there was anesoteric, hidden movement of the
way things moved in theuniverse and through the

(28:08):
Enneagram they could bediscovered and you could be
synced with and in harmony withthem.
Again, new age, new age, newage.
It sounds like hippy dippybaloney, to quote Lord Business
from the Lego movie.
All right, there's a whole deepdive you can do through

(28:32):
listening to this video.
So if this really is a topicyou're interested in, listening
to this video, so if this reallyis a topic you're interested in
, do go back and listen.
It talks about how theEnneagram became a thing that
people started teaching back inthe 40s and after, and it talks
about the various ways and ideaspeople attach to what the
Enneagram is supposed to do.

(28:54):
There's so much, so much, butlet's keep going.
The Roman Catholics were thefirst critics of the Enneagram,
so kudos to them for knowingthere was something wrong there.
Marsha read a booklet about theEnneagram back in 1990, and it
was written by a Catholic womansharing the dark history of it.

(29:16):
Nothing looks Christian, rather, it looks like New Age.
And then Richard Rohr, who is abig influence on the
progressive Christianitymovement, comes on the scene.
He was at the seminary wherethey were teaching about the
Enneagram.
He writes a book about theEnneagram with a Lutheran

(29:37):
minister named Andreas Eberhardin 1991, and the book was called
the Enneagram from a ChristianPerspective.
That was the first time thatthere was visibly any link to
Christianity, but there isn'tone.
If you have been listening andif you do a deep dive on this,

(29:59):
you're going to find out thatthere is no link between
Christianity and the Enneagram.
In the late 90s there was amovement in the church called
the quote Emergent Church endquote.
It's now called ProgressiveChristianity and at their
conferences they teach theEnneagram In 2016,.

(30:20):
Quote the Road Back to you end.
Quote by Susan Stabile I thinkthat's how you say your name and
Ian Cron.
They infiltrated the churchwith their book about the
Enneagram.
They're going to churches andseminars to discuss the
Enneagram.
Marsha said that back then, when the book was getting big,

(30:43):
she started posting against it,but people didn't know what she
was talking about.
Following year, someone namedChris Horitz wrote quote the
sacred Enneagram end quote.
But again, if you want to knowmore about its new ageness and
these books and why they're bad,all this stuff Marsha talks

(31:04):
about it in this video.
You're going to have to watchthe video, all right, before we
move on to our final topic.
There's so much more I couldsay about the Enneagram.
Again, it was a very detailedvideo, but I did not want to
spend a whole bunch of time onthat because I really need to
get to the topic that I need toget to.

(31:25):
So there's no Christian rootsinside Enneagram.
That's what you need to know.
If you've been told that, it'sa lie.
It's not an ancient practice.
It's only been around since1916, it's not an ancient
practice.
It's only been around since1916.
And it didn't become big untilprogressive Christianity made it
big, which that is a badversion of Christianity as well.

(31:46):
If you want to know more aboutprogressive Christianity, you're
going to need to find AlyssaChilders.
She's very knowledgeable inthis.
But yeah, at the end of the day,our identity is in Christ.
You don't really need to take apersonality test.
He gave you the personality hegave you.
If you want to know what you'resupposed to do with that, ask

(32:08):
your Lord and Savior.
Who doesn't love free?
I know I do.
That's why I created a freeseven-day devotional for those
who want to go deeper with God.
It's a short devotional full ofencouragement, guidance and

(32:29):
impactful Bible verses relatedto everyday struggles we all go
through.
I know you will love thisdevotional as much as I enjoyed
writing it and, since it'sdigital, you can do it anywhere,
anytime, perfect for the personalways on the go.
Get the free devotional whenyou sign up for my mailing list.
The link is in the show notes.

(32:50):
All right, drum roll please.
Okay, I have put it off longenough.
We are now going to move on tothe chosen.
I can hear the boos and thehisses right now, but please
simmer down and let me getthrough this.
And then, like I said, if youwant to hunt me down like I'm

(33:12):
Frankenstein's monster, feelfree to write me some messages
in Christian love why youdisagree.
But let's get in this.
We are going to be referencingseveral different videos within
this that I've learned someinformation about.
I'm going to start off with afair video that shares a neutral

(33:36):
perspective on this, and thatis by Alan Parr, who is the host
of the Beat, which is a podcaston YouTube.
The video is called ShouldChristians Watch the Chosen my
Honest Thought, end quote, andthis video link will be in the
show notes.
Now Dallas Jenkins, who is thecreator of the Chosen, partnered

(34:01):
with Angel Studios.
Two Mormons own Angel Studiosand, before I go any further, I
don't have a problem with AngelStudios.
I don't have a problem withMormons in that sense they don't
believe the same things webelieve, but I don't hate people
.
Back to Alan's video.

(34:24):
Alan thinks this criticism isinvalid unless the beliefs get
introduced into the Chosen.
That is his main point.
Now let's listen.
Producer Dallas Jenkins is aChristian.
He hasn't stood firm in hisChristian views.
He's watered them down and hehas straddled the fence on his

(34:46):
position when asked aboutMormonism and Christianity very
clear questions about thedifferences between Christianity
and Mormonism.
He has a quote about whatDallas Jenkins says, and this is
the quote Christians andMormons worship the same Jesus.
That is a quote from theproducer of the Chosen, dallas

(35:09):
Jenkins, who says he's aChristian but has been
flip-floppy on his stance on hisChristianity and on Mormonism.
Members of the Mormon communityand their leaders will say that
the Christian Jesus worshippedin Christian churches is not the

(35:29):
same as the Jesus taught inMormon churches.
Okay, so who's right there?
Is it Dallas or is it theMormons?
I feel like they know theirdoctrine.
So perhaps Dallas Jenkins needsto think a little more, because
Christians and Mormons don'twork.
Alan Parr also mentions thechosen employees, employees with

(35:53):
different faith values andsexual orientations.
Does anyone recall the scandalof the LGBTQ flag on the camera?
I didn't take too much time tolisten to it because I don't
watch the Chosen anymore andthat just kind of solidified it
for me.
But if you're familiar withthat incident then you know.
But if you don't and you wantto know, all you have to do is

(36:15):
look up LGBTQ flag and thechosen and you're going to get a
whole bunch of informationabout it it's not hard to find.
Going back to the video, arethey adding things to make the
script unbiblical?
Now it is a TV show inspired bybiblical events.
It is a TV show inspired bybiblical events.
To the Chosen's credit, theyhave made disclaimers at the

(36:40):
beginning addressing thisconcern.
Quote However, all biblical andhistorical contexts and any
artistic information aredesigned to support the truth
and intention of the scriptures.
Viewers are encouraged to readthe gospels, end quote.
So, to the chosen's credit, they do put that disclaimer out
there, but they do put in somestuff that is not from the Bible

(37:06):
to make it more engaging, andif you've ever read the Bible, I
feel like you don't really needto do that with certain stories
in there.
If you just tell the stories, sometimes they're juicy enough.
But we're going to move on to adifferent video that also talks
about the Chosen, and it is fromDLM Christian Lifestyle, which

(37:28):
is an online podcast for YouTube, and the video is called Is the
Chosen Series BiblicallyAccurate?
Should Christians Watch theChosen?
This video had a lot of Biblereferences and a lot of
scripture involved.
You should really listen tothis one if you want to have
more information about thistopic.
We're going to start with, there should never be anything

(37:51):
that replaces the Bible itself.
2 Timothy 3.17, so that the manof God may be complete,
equipped for every good work.
So we should be reading theBible so that we can be
completely equipped for everygood work.

(38:12):
Daniel, who is the host of theshow, mentions a scene where
Jesus is running through theSermon on the Mount with Matthew
.
He said he didn't like thatscene because he didn't believe
Jesus, who was the Word neededto do that.
He knew everything.
So that's one of the reasonswhy I started having issues with

(38:35):
the Chosen as well, becausethat scene also irritated me for
that same reason.
Jesus was the word.
Why did he need to run throughit and get help from somebody
else?
But we do need to remember it'sjust a show about Jesus's life.
So, yes, that scene is not okay, but we should remember that

(38:59):
that is not what the scriptureteaches.
So read your Bible and stayfocused on that and use that as
your source of information, notthe chosen.
Study the scriptures, readbetween the lines and understand
what the Bible is telling you.
We're moving on to another video, which was I believe it was

(39:23):
Doreen Virtue who came up withthis video.
It's called Seven BiblicalReasons to Avoid the Chosen.
It's actually a book thatDoreen Virtue and her guest the
name escapes me of who it was,but they on their YouTube video.
They discussed a book that iscalled the Chosen and the Bible

(39:45):
20 Questions to Ask Yourself.
I'm going to name off a coupleof the numbers that they talk
about in there and just to giveyou an idea of what the book is,
just in case it's somethingyou're interested in If you want
to know all the stuff.
They do go through all of it inthe video, but I'm only going
to be addressing some of them.

(40:07):
So question number 13 wasedification or entertainment.
When it comes to anythingrelated to the Bible, are you
more interested in beingentertained or edified?
Edified means something thatbuilds you up, all right.
Another question is cunninglydevised fables.
Are you aware that the Biblewarns us not to follow cunningly

(40:32):
devised fables?
Example would be fictionalbackstories that raise questions
rather than produce godlyedifying, and they reference 2
Peter 1.16 and 1 Timothy 1.4.
Go check those verses out foryourself and get an idea of what
that is.
This is another question theyhave.

(40:53):
Is the chosen's Jesus thequote-unquote authentic Jesus
that Dallas Jenkins says he istheir sources for?
That quote that Dallas Jenkinshas made repeatedly states that
the chosen's Jesus is theauthentic Jesus.
Here's a question Would theauthentic Jesus Christ of the

(41:16):
Bible ask his disciples forguidance, direct Nicodemus to
follow his heart or get arrestedbefore Gethsemane To go on with
more information about thisquestion?
In their book it says itbelittles the deity of Jesus.
We can emphasize his humanityif needed, but he was not

(41:37):
bumbling through things, hedidn't need to run things
through a community.
The dialogue between Jesus andJohn the Baptist.
John speaks to Jesus in thechosen version, quote.
If you would just grow a spineand speak to Herod the way I
have done.
Use me as an example.
End quote.

(41:57):
This and what I said about theSermon of the Mount is where the
show lost me.
John the Baptist was veryhumble, especially in regards to
Jesus.
There's no way he would havemouthed off to his Messiah that
way.
Another thing that they talkabout is the second commandment.
It is written you shall notmake for yourself a carved image

(42:22):
or any likeness of anythingthat is in heaven above or that
is in the earth beneath or thatis in the water under the earth.
You shall not bow down to themor serve them, for I, the Lord,
your God, am a jealous Godvisiting the iniquity of the
Father on the children, to thethird and fourth generation of
those who hate me, but showsteadfast love to thousands of

(42:45):
those who love me and keep mycommandments.
End quote.
God hates adultery in any form.
God hates adultery in any form.
It steals the attention andhonor that belongs only to God.
In many nations today, carvedgods and goddesses are still an
obvious violation of thiscommandment.

(43:06):
However, the sin of idolatry isultimately a sin of the heart.
An idol is anything we dependupon to meet the deep needs of
the heart love, security, worthor significance.
When we seek to find identityand relationships and security

(43:26):
in something besides God, wehave made it an idol.
John Calvin says, quote thehuman heart is an idol.
Factory end quote.
We often search for peace oridentity through relationships,
substances, money, entertainment.
Addictions are forms ofidolatry, as are the host of

(43:48):
otherworldly enticements thatcannot ultimately satisfy.
When we give ourselves to thepursuit of man-made gods, we are
breaking the second commandment.
Even good things can becomeidols if we are not careful.
Ministry hobbies, charity, workor family can usurp the
rightful place only God shouldhold in our lives.

(44:11):
When we emotionally rely onanything other than our
relationship with him tovalidate us, we are breaking the
second commandment.
And for that whole informationabout the second commandment I
want to thank dot questions, dotorg, because that is an excerpt
on the second commandment.
The link will also be in theshow notes for that.

(44:32):
I know that was a lot to swallowand you're probably really
confused on why the SecondCommandment is being used here
in regards to idols, and forthat I'm going to have to go on
a personal confession time foryou.
I already mentioned a couplereasons why I stopped watching
the Chosen.
But if you've watched the show,I dare you, at least as a

(44:54):
female, not to mention howhandsome some of the men are in
the show.
I noticed it and I'm prettysure you have noticed it.
That's one problem that caneasily become an idol right
there to somebody who watch itbecause, ooh, jesus looks really
hot.

(45:14):
I mean, who wants to hearsomeone say that?
But there's been comments andDoreen Virtue has some videos
and I think I've linked them inthe show notes if you want to
hear her talking about some ofthe comments people have made
about the actors in the show.
If we think about it, the Bibletalks about how Jesus was not

(45:35):
something special to look at.
I have a Bible verse that Iwrote out here for you, isaiah
53.2.
He grew up before him like atender shoot and like a root out
of dry ground.
He had no beauty, no majesty toattract us to him, nothing in

(45:55):
his appearance that we shoulddesire him.
He was not meant to turn heads.
Why are all these people superhandsome looking?
Why are the women pretty?
There's nothing wrong with it.
There is nothing wrong with itif it were just a movie.
But this is supposed to beportraying.
What Dallas Jenkins says is theauthentic Jesus.

(46:17):
The authentic Jesus was notconsidered a hottie.
He was meant to turn heartswatching it.
That and plus the many othertimes where I just did not like
how they added drama into it, orthey added to the scriptures,

(46:37):
if you will.
Another main reason goes alongwith the people themselves, not
just because they were handsomeguys, but because whenever I
read the Bible, it's stilllingering.
Whenever I read the Bible now,but whenever I read these
stories or read about thesepeople, read about Jesus.
I see these actors, their faces, I see them and, in fairness,

(47:03):
it's not just the chosen.
I've watched the Passion of theChrist I don't know how many
times, and before that, wheneverI'd read the Bible, that's what
I saw, jesus, as was JimCaviezel.
So it's not just a knock on thechosen.

(47:23):
Some people are more visualthan others and that happens.
That's where the danger comes infor them taking liberties with
certain things.
One, because they're making allthe main characters super
attractive.
So that's going to stick withyou and it could potentially,
depending on who you are, createa lust situation, especially if
you aren't a believer and youjust happen to be watching it
because they're handsome guys.
That's not sending you down agood path.

(47:45):
So there's that, and then theSermon on the Mount John the
Baptist mouthing off when he'snot that kind of a guy.
The Sermon on the Mount Johnthe Baptist mouthing off when
he's not that kind of a guy.
Those things are problems aswell, because someone who
doesn't know the Bible very wellis going to read those stories
and they're not going to seethese things and they're going
to be confused.
Why is this not in the Bible?

(48:08):
At some point you have to beable to grow spiritually and
know the difference between abiblically based show or
slightly biblically based showand the truth.
That's why we're supposed toread the Bible.
You're supposed to understandthat.
You are just watching a show.
I'm not telling you youshouldn't watch it.

(48:30):
I gave you some information.
I gave you some tools that youcan go deeper and look more into
if you really want to.
I've given you my personalexamples of why I don't watch
the show anymore.
I'm not telling you what to do.
You don't have to listen towhat I have to say.
I'm just telling you that thereare certain dangers that come

(48:50):
with certain things.
Good things can be taken out ofits place as well, as we have
seen throughout this wholeseason so far, you can take
certain things that were good atfirst and you can make them bad
.
That is how Satan works.
So, yes, the chosen is bringingpeople closer to Jesus, it's

(49:10):
getting them to feel something, but we are not supposed to be
led by our feelings only.
We are supposed to be led by ahunger and a desire to read the
Bible, to understand what Jesusis saying to us, not what we
think he's saying or what webelieve he should be saying.
We should not watch the chosenand think that that is
biblically accurate, or, yes, that's got to be how Jesus was.

(49:34):
Or, yes, that is true.
Or I can totally see myself inthat.
This is God's story about Jesus.
It's all about Jesus.
We should not be soself-focused, because that's a
form of idolatry, and rememberwhat John Calvin said the human
heart is an idol factory.
We are constantly looking forsomething to fulfill us and we

(49:57):
should only be looking for God.
So if you are watching theChosen and it is leading you to
read the Bible and have a deeperunderstanding of the Bible,
that's great.
That must mean that maybe youare a mature enough Christian to
see the difference between ashow with some liberties taken,
but you are able tocompartmentalize that and read

(50:19):
the Bible and realize thatwhat's in the show is not always
in the Bible, okay, that's good.
But if you're watching it orsuggesting it to somebody who
might not be able to do that, you need to make sure that they
understand the significance ofreading the Bible and understand
the potential dangers, if youwill, of getting sucked into the

(50:42):
show, because there's peoplewho are way into the show to the
point that if you go againsttalking about it they will snarl
at you.
That is not okay.
Don't you see that?
That is probably becoming anidol to you if someone cannot
come against it and say, hey,I'm noticing a little bit of
weirdness going on with this.
This doesn't seem right with me.

(51:04):
As the show progresses, look atit, see what you are watching.
Is it giving your God glory?
Is it honoring him and his name?
Is it taking away from the word?
Is it adding to the word?
We are not supposed to add tothe word.
We should not hold on to thechosen with a death grip and

(51:26):
just kind of let go of the Bible.
But you will not let go of thechosen.
I love this show.
It is a good show and I am notgoing to stop watching it
because it makes me feel good.
If you are acting like that butyou have no problem letting go
of the biblical inaccuracies orthe problems that could be

(51:47):
stirring up in your heart if youfind any of those actors
attractive, if you're seeingJesus as Jonathan Rumi rather
than Jesus who we will not beable to see until we are in
heaven because of his glory, ifyou are holding on to this show
so much and letting go of theBible, or holding on to this

(52:11):
show so much that you arewilling to die on that hill for
it, that it has become an idol.
If you can listen to this, watchany of the videos that I have
about this, listen to all of itand still say you know what?
I completely agree with this, this, this.
I don't agree with this.
It doesn't do this to me.
I feel justified and right withGod.

(52:33):
I'm still going to watch theshow Then that is between you
and God.
If you are feeling any sort ofconviction, like I have in the
past, about watching this showand you can say you know what
I'm feeling convicted, maybe Ishould stop watching.
And you can do that and itdoesn't cause you issues, it
doesn't give you withdrawals oranything, then that's good.
But if you know that you shouldstop watching this show because

(52:59):
you feel maybe God's beentelling you that or something,
then you need to do it.
And if you can't, then you havemade it an idol.
I know people are mad right now.
No, I'm not sorry, because I'mjust sharing a different side, a
different perspective.
Take it as you will, so I'm notgoing to harp on this anymore.

(53:21):
If you want to pray over it andask God to show you what you
need to do, then that is thebest course of action to take.
Then that is the best course ofaction to take.
Read your Bible.
Stay focused on Him.
I care about everybody who'slistening to this podcast.
That is why I chose to do this.
I have seriously had a hardtime.

(53:43):
Did I want to?
Did I not want to?
But it needed to be said.
It's been mulling around in mybrain, my heart, for a while and
now it's finally out.
And now it's your turn to dowith this information, as you
will If you want to message me.
Link is in the show notes.
Love you all.
