Speaker 1 (00:00):
People don't respond
to what we say.
They respond to who we be, likechildren.
Don't do what you say.
They copy what you do.
So, if you are choosing to stayin a place of empowerment, if
you are choosing to stay in aplace of positivity, if you are
choosing to stay in the lightthat lets someone else know, hey
, I can do it too.

Welcome back Today.
We've got a really juicy topic.
What are we talking about today, brett?
Speaker 1 (01:28):
We're talking about
fear and kind of the state of
the world, don't worry, don'tworry, we have some optimistic
thoughts and it's a time wherethere is a lot of fear going on.
You know, depending on how muchnews you're taking in or what's
happening in your immediateworld and your circumstances and
(01:50):
all sorts of things, there area lot of people who are
navigating fear, would you agree?
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Oh, absolutely it's.
It's been prevalent in myfriend group.
You know, just like concerns ofwhat's going on, stress worry,
you know people not spendingmoney, or you know just all
kinds of things are going on.
Stress worry, you know, peoplenot spending money, or you know
just all kinds of things aregoing on.
We got a doomsday prep.
We got a doomsday prep.
What is it?
We got to map out our way outof the country.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
There's all kinds of
there's all sorts of things, and
it's understandable, becausefear is a really not I want to
say powerful frequency, but it'sa frequency that can be really
used to numb and sedate.
So when you're experiencingfear, a lot of things can be
(02:34):
going on, and we're going todive deeper into it in this
episode.
But first, if you're listeningto this, we would love for you
to like, subscribe, write us areview.
These things help to get ourpodcast out there and to more
people.
Thank you so much for being apart of the community.
You want to give this question aread?
Sure, my cat sitter istransgender and had surgery in
(02:57):
the fall.
She just messaged me and is ina state of fear about what the
current administration is goingto do and is targeting trans
people.
She said things aren't bad yet,but she may need to seek asylum
in another country if they do.
She is just watching andwaiting.
She told me all this becauseshe knows I don't follow the
(03:17):
news.
So my question how can I helpher to not put her energy into
fear and worry of all thepossible scenarios that can go
down?
I'm not sure what is possiblefor this administration to do.
Yes, it's scary, but I guess Ijust don't know.
I'm feeling a bit paralyzed byfear.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
It hits so close to
home.
You know there's that, dependingon what side of the news you're
on and I just want you to know, there are several timelines
happening at the same time.
If you ever wonder how someonecan think so critically on one
side of the fence right, left, wing, right wing, same bird guys
it is because they are beingfiltered through their news,
(04:05):
through their beliefs.
They're getting what is it?
Confirmation, bias news, and sothat's why it feels so
different when you're receivingwhat your algorithm is allowing
you to receive.
And if you're giving attention, let's say, specifically in
social media, if you giveattention to things that give
(04:26):
you fear, the algorithm goes ooh, this person likes this and I'm
going to give them more of itand more of it and more of it.
You know, back in the day itused to just be a few stations
and if you're watching thatstation, they'd give you that
news.
But now we actually control ourown algorithms by how long we
spend time on things.
And so there's the fringe, there's the news on the outside.
(04:48):
I was talking to my mentorbecause I had this very similar,
not the same, but I was feelingthings around.
Being first generation American, I come from immigrant parents
and there was talk of that weare queer, the marriage
rollbacks, things that we'rehearing, and what my mentor had
to say was there are.
(05:09):
There's the news on theoutskirts, like the fringe stuff
, that's the stuff that getsyour attention, and then there's
actually the stuff that's inthe middle and that's what's
actually happening, and yetyou're going to be fed that
which you're most attracted tomentally, what takes up your
time and space, not necessarilywhat's true, yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
I just want to say
like I feel you and I appreciate
that you want to support yourfriend in moving out of fear and
overwhelm and like just holdingsome space, for those things
are real.
Like when I was hearing thatkind of news I got scared.
I was like does this mean mymarriage isn't valid and they're
(05:52):
going to take my wife away, whowas born in this country?
Like how could this be?
And I genuinely felt scared.
And then it was just like thisis an opportunity for me to take
back my power from thiscreation, to let go of this fear
and tune into what's true.
So one I want to say, like whenyou're saying how do I support
(06:17):
this person and not putting alltheir energy into worry and fear
, it is what is our bestpossible use of our imagination.
Our imagination is what awonderful gift.
I mean it works incredible.
You can come up with picturesin your head.
There's Lord of the Rings, likeall of these things come from
imagination.
Harry Potter, you know, I likea fantastical imagination.
(06:39):
It all comes from yourimagination.
You know what else can comefrom your imagination?
Anxiety, that is, using yourimagination to imagine the worst
possible case of scenario.
And like love our lizard brain, bless her.
She's doing the best she canwith the resources she has.
It's just like if I think ofall the worst case scenarios,
quote unquote, then I can beprepared.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
But that's not the
best use of our imagination,
that's not the best use of thisresource, of this tool.
It's.
How can I imagine what the bestcase scenarios are for this If
I allow myself to switch myfocus from what's the worst
thing that can happen to what'sthe best thing that can happen?
What's the best?
Speaker 2 (07:21):
thing.
Yeah, absolutely, fear is just.
It's so paralyzing Like itcauses you to just like clench
up, freeze and just stay inthese thought processes of more
and more things to be afraid of,and it's just so important to
be able to take that back, likewherever there is it's a Mr
(07:42):
Rogers saying, like whenterrible things are happening,
look for the helpers.
And you know, in any majorterrible thing the fires that
were happening in LA there arepeople out there that are
serving to the highest capacityand you know I want to honor
that you're cat sitter,transgender.
There are programs here inOregon that were just raising
(08:03):
money.
A few weeks ago my friend wasat a fundraiser to support
transgender people in gettingout of hostile situations, like
how do we relocate them?
There's so many people outthere helping and supporting and
putting up a good fight as well, and so it's important to look
for the beauty and the good, because it's also happening at
(08:23):
the same time.
Absolutely, you can't separatethe positive from a negative on
a magnet.
You can't separate the positivefrom negative.
In reality, all things arehappening.
The polarities are happening atthe same time and the
extremities of this polarityright now it's serving.
There's change happening.
There's change and change whileit's happening looks very scary
(08:47):
.
If you walk into an operatingroom in the middle of surgery,
you'll think that it's a murderhappening and at the same time
we get to stand in our power asthis thing unfolds and seek
community to support us.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Absolutely Community
is it's so positive?
I feel like this is one of myother points.
It's like where can I put mypositive energy?
Where can I direct my energy?
Because sometimes it's like Ihave a lot of energy, things are
happening, I'm feelingactivated, and it's like I can
use that energy to go intoterror, despair.
(09:25):
I mean this is primal, butfight or fight or freeze, you
know, these are things that youliterally say.
You get frozen in fear like weuse it.
That.
Or it's like how can I use thisenergy for good?
Maybe it's I want to get toknow my neighbors.
I want to know my community.
Our blog has a group chat.
You know are like hey, I haveextra potatoes or I grew this.
(09:48):
It's like anybody want this.
We have a group chat with ourneighbors.
Maybe it's I'm getting to knowmy neighbors.
I'm getting to know peoplearound me.
I'm investing in community.
I'm investing in spaces thatfeel good.
Hey, I want to hang out withother queer people who are
around me.
I'm going to invest inrelationships.
So like where can I put myenergy?
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Yeah, it's when we
take our energy back, when we
take our eyes off of what we'rebeing told is happening and we
take the control back to createfrom the inside, like I feel you
, and I feel the fear and I haveto sit and do my work, I have
(10:27):
to go inward, I have to meditate, I have to go.
What's actually happening rightnow?
Yes, and when you look at yourdirect reality, you know and
it's not to say that therearen't people that are out there
struggling and going throughthings.
I want to respect and honorthat there are people that are
going through this.
But if you have the time tolisten to this podcast, I'm
(10:47):
assuming you're not in immediatedanger, you know, and so look
around and notice how goodthings are in this moment and
create from that space.
And there is so much fearmongering happening from the
perspective of like, that's whatgets attention.
You know the catastroph, that'swhat gets attention.
You know the catastrophizing ofwhat's happening.
(11:11):
It keeps your attention gluedto your phone.
It keeps your attentionconsuming consuming instead of
creating.
You know, like a doomsdayprepping.
Do I need that Navy sealbugging kit?
A hundred percent.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
And what were you?
Complete no, no, go ahead.
I feel like there's a beautifulspace that we get to live in if
you choose to, and it's.
Let's be prepared but also notexpect it.
I grew up in California.
I grew up in LA, and we hadthings like earthquake drills
and like a school fire drill andit was like, hey, we're gonna
practice this.
(11:42):
If something happens, this iswhat we would do.
This is your water and yourMylar blanket, you know.
So you know what they are, where they are, and so I believe
in like, hey, let's be prepared.
So when we started hearingthings about this administration
that we were like, huh, thatdoesn't feel great, that doesn't
feel great.
And I was just like just like, okay, what would, for me, feel
(12:05):
like being prepared?
And I was just like, cool, youknow, we actually don't have.
We did at the time we didn'thave an emergency kit for our
home, so I was just like I wouldlove to get some like lanterns
that go for solar, um, some likecanned goods, because also the
fires were going on like therewas a.
There was many things that wasenvironmental there.
There was also governmentalthings like that, and I was just
(12:25):
like cool, you know what alsomake me feel better, just having
paper maps, just having papermaps where I wouldn't have to
rely on my phone if I needed togo.
Hey, actually I'm a bounce, youknow.
Um, and that was what felt goodto me.
Am I preparing to leave thecountry?
No, did I go to Costco and getsome flashlights?
I did.
(12:46):
I did, and it made me feelbetter because places, people
were losing everything in LA atthe time and I was like, wow, we
don't have the base level ofpreparedness for ourselves if
something was to go down.
So it's like how can you beprepared without expecting the
worst?
I'm not expecting the powergrid to go down, I'm not
expecting to have to flee toanother country.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Yeah, and you know
that's a really good point about
getting educated.
You know like we realize whatwould we need if the grid goes
down.
You know what would we need ifyou know we filled up, we have
water that we have on backup, just things that are important
if a fire happens or the gridgoes down.
And there are things you canexpect for, like fun fact,
(13:27):
brittany was like going down thehall and there and I just
wanted to share this tip grabyour hamper.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
If you don't have
like a go bag, grab your hamper
because it has your most currentclothes that you're wearing.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
That fit you, that
fit you.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
And so I remember one
time my sister had a, had a go
kit, you know, cause of LA andearthquakes and everything.
And she looked at it yearslater and, like my niece, who
was already like a teenager, shehad like her little kid clothes
and like that really wouldn'thave worked.
But the hamper aspect of life, like duh, like who knew that.
Grab your hamper.
It's got your.
It's got the clothes you liketo wear.
(14:02):
And there's something aboutbeing educated.
There's a lot of talk aboutyour rights being taken away,
but if you actually know yourrights, you have.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
So, and they were
educating the children, yes, and
educating us as citizens whomay not have been quote unquote
directly affected, but itaffects one, it affects all but
(14:33):
us all knowing our rights andbeing like I'm going to step in.
Yeah, I know my rights, I knowthis person's rights.
We're going to speak up.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
Yeah, we're going to
speak up and we're going to that
simple education.
They were handing out pamphlets, I think, in Chicago, and
people you know the people thatwere running ICE got very upset
about it.
They're like what are you?
You know you're teaching peoplehow to resist arrest and it's
like, actually no, we'reteaching them their rights and
you're upset because now youcan't arrest them.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Yes, because they
know their rights.
Because they know their rights.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
So, more than
anything, I would say get
educated on your rights, reachout to community, get the
support you need around you andknow that there's support.
There are places and people youcan go to, to reach out to.
And I just kind of want to dropthis point in it's that
candidates don't deliver ontheir promises.
(15:22):
It's a lot of talk to keep youreyes glued to the screen, but
if they did deliver on theirpromises, my student loans would
have been wiped out by now orthere would be a wall at the
bottom of Mexico.
Like you know, there's constanttalk of this is what I'm going
to do so they can get intooffice, and then the things
don't actually get delivered on.
(15:43):
That's not to say things aren'thappening.
I'm not, you know, being aPollyanna about this.
There are.
There are things happening and, depending on where you get your
news, I don't want to putanything in your line of vision
that isn't there already.
There are things that arehappening and that look alarming
, but there's also protectionsin place to support us as
(16:04):
citizens and, at the end of theday, there are more of us, there
are more citizens than those inpower, and we have to remember,
like the greatest thing you cando in this time is to stay
empowered, like know that yourattention is fucking priceless.
There's a reason there was abattle for TikTok because the
(16:25):
eyes on there, the way peoplewere sharing information, the
way information was getting topeople faster.
That's why it became a turf warfor TikTok.
Because it became.
It's such a priceless thing toget your attention.
You know why?
Because your attention createsthe reality, and if you can
bring your attention back towhat you truly want to create,
(16:46):
those that are most in power arethose that know that the power
stands within them.
There's not.
It doesn't matter who lives ina house across the country.
They cannot control yourpersonal reality, which is why
media is so is such a giantasset, and it's where the most
money is spent.
The best thing you can do isempower yourself and learn how
(17:10):
to control your own state, because as you control your
state, you control the energyand the frequency of things you
put out in your world, and Iwould love to.
This is a perfect time to talkabout our sponsor this week.
Yay, who's our sponsor?
I about our sponsor this week.
Yay, who's our sponsor?
I'm the sponsor this week.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Yay so.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
Lissette is your
sponsor.
This week I am teaching a HUNAintro class and what we're doing
is we're doing some majorrelease work.
I'm going to teach energy, howto work with the elements, how
to empower yourself, and thefirst thing that we do is we
release baggage yourself.
And the first thing that we dois we release baggage.
We release your anger, yourfear, your guilt, your shame, so
(17:52):
that you can clear the stuffthat's been stagnant inside of
you, so that you can create andpull energy in to create the
reality you want to create.
This has been the most magicbehind my magic.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
Yes, and I can just
say one of the students who was
in our last class.
He shared in a circle howpowerful this class was for him,
that he said this has been themost powerful thing he's done
all year and that it'stransforming his life and he's
been able to take new actionsand show up in his life
differently.
(18:19):
So, like people are getting theresults.
The magic is here and if thisis something you want to learn
about, like, get in it there's alink in the show notes yep,
there's a link in the show notes.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
We're going to
include that there.
Um, the spots are limited, yes, super limited, so the sooner
you can get on my roster, it'shappening here.
Live in portland, and I wouldlove, love, love, to teach you
this.
If you feel even the slightestcall, reach out and get in this
class.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Yeah, yeah, okay.
So, like I feel like we'retalking about the news of the
media play.
Something that you shared withme is how do you observe but not
absorb, allowing yourself somedistance from the information,
and if that works for you, Ihighly encourage it.
I'm very much a fan of somebodywill tell me.
(19:12):
Someone will tell me If thereis pertinent information that
you need to know.
Best believe you will find out.
Covid happened and within threedays everyone had a mask and
was in their home.
Like whether or not you watchthe news or not, somebody told
you and you found out and thingswere able to happen very, very
fucking quickly.
So I am a firm believer of likeI noticed what taking in that
(19:38):
kind of media was doing to mynervous system.
I was dysregulated, I was in astate of fight or flight as
opposed to rest, digest andcreate, and so I was like, cool,
I am not going to ingest those.
I have a trusted source.
Sometimes it's my wife,sometimes it's a friend who was
like I will take in this amountof media whatever, and if
there's something that you needto know, I'll tell you.
(20:00):
But even then, I'm like I don'teven have to have like a
spotter, I'm like.
I know the information willcome to me.
If it's something that's goingto directly affect me or those
who I love and I need to dosomething, I will find out about
it.
And so I choose to live in aspace of creation.
I choose to live in a space ofpersonal empowerment, I choose
to invest in showing up for mycommunity and being a source of
(20:22):
love and light, and because thatis how I choose to show up
through this, I would encourage,if this feels good to you, to
offer your person.
Hey, what if you didn't takethat in?
What if you didn't take that in?
What if you set up a Googlealert, a friend alert, a
something to let you know ifthere's something where you
absolutely need boots on theground to make a decision?
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Yeah, I want to
circle back to observe, but
don't absorb.
That was a beautiful gift I goton TikTok, and the way I take
that in is yes, it's good to beinformed, especially when things
like you don't want to be thelast person to know, you know
and you can be, as Brittany said, like someone will tell you
(21:10):
with, observe and don't absorb.
For me, it's like how can Itake this information, alchemize
it, create my own empowermentfrom it and like, actually go?
Okay, so I just took that in.
What does that actually mean tome?
What does that actually mean tomy life?
What does that actually mean tothe people that I care about?
Well, that is alarming.
(21:32):
And what do I have in my powerto control right now?
Yes, and I always go back towhat is in my power to control,
and my power comes fromempowerment empowering myself
and empowering others.
Like, how can I the the?
The power comes from within, and when you give it away, you
(21:53):
feel helpless.
And so for me, about aboutobserving and not absorbing.
It's observing what.
And so for me, about observingand not absorbing.
It's observing what.
Whoo, okay, that's that.
Can I see and alchemize it andturn it into my power?
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
I feel like this is
also a great place to just try
to have like what else could behappening, what else could be
true.
Sometimes we take things asfact and they're conjecture yeah
, they're just conjecture.
And we take things as fact andthey're conjecture yeah, they're
just conjecture.
And we take things as like thisis absolutely what's happening
and it's like it's absolutelynot happening.
Someone is talking about it.
The same way, they'recommenting on sports for a game
(22:28):
that hasn't even happened yet.
But they're talking about it sodefinitively and it's like that
game is not even till Thursday, you know what I mean.
And they're like well blah, blah, blah.
And it's the same kind ofenergy, it's the same kind of
certainty, but it's not actuallyfact, it's not actually
happening.
So it's just hey, we'replanning on doing this, yeah,
(22:50):
anything can happen.
Anything can happen.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
And every moment when
you're taking in media, you're
taking in that person's opinionand for me I'm like do I want
this person's life?
No Scroll, please.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
Skip.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
No, thank you.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
No, thank you.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
And when I talk about
going back to my mentor, he's
someone that I admire andrespect and has a firm belief
that, no matter who's in office,we're going to win.
We shall rise above belief thatno matter who's in office,
we're going to win, we shallrise above, and it's just like
that is the mentality that I'mrolling with and I'm taking into
my life, and I'm going to besomeone who's of service, no
(23:28):
matter what's happening.
You know, I saw somethingrecently that's like you're not
born a dragon slayer in a timewithout dragons.
And we are here.
There's a need for you, if youfeel that spark inside, to be of
service, if you feel that sparkinside to go protest.
If you feel that spark inside, honor that and do something.
(23:51):
But to sit and just consume andabsorb and let it paralyze you,
that is not the most efficientuse of your energy.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
Yeah, I couldn't
agree more On our last note,
when we say how can I supportsomeone else?
I feel like the most powerfulthing you can do is take care of
yourself, is be your own energy, because people don't respond
to what we say.
They respond to who we be, howwe show up.
(24:20):
Children don't do what you say.
They copy what you do.
So if you are choosing to stayin a place of empowerment, if
you are choosing to stay in aplace of positivity, if you are
choosing to stay in the light, that lets someone else know, hey
, I can do it too.
I am seeing someone choose tostay in the light, to stay in a
(24:43):
place of positivity, to stay ina place of empowerment.
Okay, it is not just lipservice, I'm seeing it, I'm
feeling their vibration.
So the most powerful thing youcan do to support your friend is
make sure your energy is clear, that you're doing your own
personal work and that you'restanding in that space.
Be the calm center of theuniverse for yourself, and that
(25:09):
is what will radiate out tothose around you.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
It's standing in your
authenticity, and your
authenticity and your truth ofwhat is the world you're
creating Like.
At the end of the day, we'reall creating our own world and
no matter what's happening orwhat I'm receiving, I'm like, oh
, that's an interesting thingthat's happening in someone
else's world and yet how can Ibe the most empowering?
(25:38):
Most empowered and mostempowering person in the room
has always been my ask formyself.
How can I be stand in my truth?
Because all realities arehappening at the same time.
It's everything everywhere allat once, guys, it's just like do
you like your reality?
No, all right, let's get thefuck out of it, let's change it.
And there's a reason.
This got co-created in thismoment, exactly as it is.
(26:00):
There are good things happeningout there.
You just got to look for them.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
Yes, wow, this has
been a really great episode, I
feel like for myself.
It reminds me to where myattention goes, energy flows,
and so, like I start everymorning with gratitude, got the
five minute gratitude journaland, putting myself in that
space of gratitude, I find everyday more things to be grateful
(26:26):
for, and so, like really tuninginto my energy of what is the
state that I want to live in.
How about, for?
Speaker 2 (26:34):
you.
Well, I want to be in the bestshape of my life, no matter
what's going on.
I want to be ready to climbthat mountain and I want to be
ready to run if.
I need to, like all things arenecessary.
So it's just like can you bemotivated?
For me, it's like I want mybody to be as strong as possible
(26:55):
period, whether it lives tolive a long time or I just need
it to be functionally strongright now.
It's just like stay ready, don't expect the worst, but stay
ready.
What's wrong with that?
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Stay ready.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Stay ready.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
Stay ready.
You never know when it's thebest day ever.
I mean, this is only kind oftangentially related, but we
have a friend, sarah, who'sabsolutely incredible.
She's an opera singer and shewas at the Hollywood Bowl and
Kristen Chenoweth was there andshe was singing songs and she
happened to pick Sarah out ofthe audience to sing a song from
(27:31):
Wicked with her and it's justlike stay ready, because you
never know literally.
I mean like for music, I meanfirst of all, she's just like an
icon, but like as a singer, Ican imagine to have someone who
you admire, a show that sheloves she loves wicked and then
to be chosen and brought up.
It's like stay ready, you neverknow when your big moment is
(27:52):
about to happen.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
Yeah, yeah that was a
bit of a side tangent, but
works the same way.
Stay ready for your great lifeand stay ready for anything that
happens, I stay ready for mygreat life because that's the
only option.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
I'm available for.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
Yeah, I want to look,
fly in all the lives.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Oh man.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Yeah, thank you so
much for sending in this
question.
It feels so poignant andimportant in this time and I
hope that listening to thisepisode really supported you
listener in grounding here today.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Yes, and until we
meet again, be honest with each
other, yeah.
